LOVE THIS PLACE!
My wife and I eat here very often and simply love the food, the service and the atmosphere. It's exactly my idea of a great neighborhood restaurant..... but it's more than that because the food is so excellent.

We've been here once before
We've been here once before and brought some friends this time. Delicious food and great atmosphere for a local hidden gem..

I returned for the second time and enjoyed Nizza La Bella again. The salmon and vegetables were great. The vegetables were cooked just right.
The tables are somewhat close and we ended up talking with the people on both sides of us (which is a plus for us). One younger couple lived in Emeryville, the older couple on the other side lived in the neighborhood and come every Friday night. The waiter was friendly and competent. I will return.

We were seated promptly upon
We were seated promptly upon arrival. The food was first rate. There was a good choice of wines over a wide price range. Service was very good and all of our party enjoyed the experience. A consistently good restaurant with a nice menu for all tastes.

great neighborhood spot
We'd make the drive to Nizza if we had to. But fortunately they are in our neighborhood. Excellent pizza. Mussels in spicy Pernod sauce are the best. Great signature cocktails that change often enough to get to try something new.

Cocktail list is original, and my Sugar Baby (with brown sugar, bourbon, and egg white) was quite good. Wait staff and bartender are very friendly and helpful. The waiter personally sang "Happy Birthday" to my husband. On-street parking was easy to find. Loved the spinach salad, and the carrots served with my salmon were particularly tasty.

nizzas was not what i expected but was in fact better. the man i believe is the owner, jose, was delightful and a jazz musician who played excellent music on the sound system
the food was sensational. i had an appetizer which included meatballs on a skewer. delicious. my entree was muscles in a white wine sauce, the best.
my wife had steak slices with a side a french fries. we had shared the entree and my muscles so she only touched her steak. the only complaint i have is there was too much salt on the steak but we will ask for less when we return which we will.
the ambience is fair at best but the very friendly and helpful staff more than made up for it. sparse wine list but excellent cocktails.
this will become a regular stop for us.

great neighborhood French bistro
This is a very French bistro. It is casual neighborhood place and not snooty. We came here for Mother’s Day brunch and it was a bit crowded and rushed. The food was very good, but not exceptional. We had the eggs benedict and the shrimp salad. Excellent desserts included a strawberry shortcake with fresh-picked strawberrys on home-made pound cake, and pan perdu. We will come back for dinner because the menu includes a number of French specialties we would like to try. There is a full bar with an excellent cocktail list, including a number of old-time classics. The Street parking is fairly easy and that is a definite plus.

the mussels and fries are always a must and the service is always great...

Enjoyed dinner Mussels really good. Dinner size very generous. Steak frites not quite as good.
Meat a little too chewy. Great bottle of chianti. Very comfortable. Recommend it.

Outstanding drinks for those with delicate tastes, wife loved her grapefruit based cocktail and my daughter had a Shirley Temple. Thursday dinner so there were other diners but the place wasn't too busy. Server was friendly, accommodating, and helpful but also occasionally distracted by having to tend bar and mix drinks. My wife had the macaroni and cheese with meatballs and they accommodated my daughter by substituting Bowie pasta for spaghetti noodles with tomato sauce and a extra large meatball. Both entrees were nicely prepared. My hamburger was good but nothing special. Good dining experience, well intentioned if slightly distracted service and very good beverages. Best for when you are in the mood for a cozy and leisurely dinner.

FINALLY discovered this GEM!
We almost passed this little San Pablo @ Solano spot by, as initial impression from the street was that it was simply a pizzeria and bar. We were looking for French cuisine, (pre-Bastille Day) and we actually found great examples at Nizza la Bella ... mussels from heaven, fabulous bouillabaisse, etc. However, what made our evening there truly exceptional was the superb, professional and caring service by Ricardo. C'est magnifique!

Best Caesar salad in town!
We eat here at least once or twice a week and always love the food and service.

Great Ceasar Salad
I've driven by this neighborhood restaurant for years and for some reason never stopped. I found them on Open Table and decided to give them a try. I'm really glad that I did. I agree with another reviewer who said that their Ceasar Salad is one of the best around! It would have been nice if the complimentary foccacia was served heated. I can't pronounce a thing on their menu, but they give good descriptions of every dish. 4 of us dined on a Tuesday night for $144 including tip (no wine), so it was not inexpensive, but we left feeling very satisfied. The only bad thing was that the sound was horrible. We had to shout to hear each other, and one person in our group with a hearing aid had to turn it off because it was so annoying.

Happy customer for years
We have enjoyed Nizza for many years now. The atmosphere is friendly and familiar. The service is generally friendly and competent. The food, within its limited menu, is uniformly very good and some dishes are outstanding. I am a great fan of the boulliabaise, the salad anchoiade, and the various pizzas. My wife is a fan of the chicken. Their fries are outstanding. I think I have sampled everything on the menu at one time or another and everything is better than average. The quality is consistently high.

Who would've thunk it?? San Pablo Avenue sporting a fine French/Italian restaurant? The boullabaise is to die for. Socca pronounced fantastic by my husband. I loved the chèvre roti. We also loved the coup foudre and the verrine douce. Yum. Finally, the caipirinhas are the old fashioned, made with real ingredients and made well, kind. Do eat here. You won't be sorry. My sole complaint is that the wine list is all too brief and all too uninteresting.

Charming local spot
This is a cozy local favorite, warm and inviting, with excellent food. They do a fabulous French Onion Soup, great Salmon, and my husband loves the fancy Macaroni dish. They have lots of fancy cocktails, though I pretty much always have a Kir Royale.

Consistently delicious, charming, great wine & service.

Memorable Dining Experience
This is the second time that we (my wife and I and another couple) have eaten here. The first time was for Le Slunch on a Sunday and this time was for Dinner on Saturday. Both times, upon leaving, we spoke about how wonderful the meals had been, regardless of which item was ordered, and talked about when we might return for our next wonderful dining experience. My personal favorites are Hearts of Romaine with Parmesan, Anchovy Vinaigrette & Croutons and the Fire-Roasted PEI Mussels with Garlic, Parsley, Wine & Aioli.

Great drinks and food
Comfortable and quiet.....the booths are a great place to visit because you can hear each other! Very tasty food and an excellent bar.

Nice change of pace
Nice find in Albany. Definitely a neighborhood gem. Good pizza!

go for the pizza
Best pizza I have ever had. I always get a pizza and let my husband order different entrees then we share. We enjoyed everything we have eaten there and will go back at least once a month.
10/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
We love Nizza La Bella. The food is top quality and there are a good variety of dishes to choose from. Service is excellent and friendly and the booths are intimate and block out a lot of noise. Their Ceaser salad (Salad Anchoiade) is by far the best around.

Keep It in Mind
Never had a bad meal here. Nice ambiance, well-preapred food. Don't be in a rush, though--service often a bit inattentive.

A tasty surprise
My friend and I both ordered the small version of the macaroni and cheese, wondering how it would be different from what we were accustomed to as home food. We were happily surprised by the freshness (made to order, a 15-minute wait), served in individual low-sided casseroles, a rich and delicious combination of flavors and great texture of the pasta, crunchy topping--a memorable dish. I had the special mushrooms as a side--again, a generous portion--and my friend had the fresh spinach with its adornments, again made to order and perfect. We were too amply filled to order dessert, but maybe next time. Mac and cheese never tasted so good. The variety of dishes listed on the menu definitely is in our memory to consider for the future.

Nizza la Bella is hella good.
One-of-a-kind. Authentic traditional Provencal cuisine "Nizza" is old Provencal for Nice (the city).
Old-fashioned but with a touch of glamor.
and the food is great.
In addition to salmon, pork, steak frites, Nizza la Bella serves mussels, burgers, soupe a l'oignon, mac and cheese, pizza, salad nicoise (really delicious) and more. They also have a wonderful assortment of desserts.
There's a small but lively bar scene. Waitpeople are extremely cordial. The tall booths of dark wood feel very private. If you want to have a real talk with someone, take them there. (Though if it's crowded they save the booths for parties of more than two.)
I recommend the French daiquiri or the Havana sidecar. Excellent wine list. Intimate and unique.
