Delicious garlic edamame
The garlic edamame appetizer was amazing. If you go here, you must try it!! We ordered four sushi rolls and all were really good. Personal favorites were the "kobe" and "super dragon." "by the border" is a spicier change of pace for someone who likes a spicy tuna roll. The "bonsai" roll is the only one I probably wouldn't get again because was kind of boring and the taste was masked by the sweet potato/lotus roots piled on top. Service was mediocre. Sit "outside" in the back for a more romantic option...cool lighting and heat lamps for colder nights.

Good happy hour menu but service
Good happy hour menu but service a bit on the slow side. Some of the sushi rolls were expensive though for what they are. But I will come back again for sure.

Celebrated another birthday
Celebrated another birthday at my favorite restaurant in San Diego, Azuki!! Fantastic meals for all 17 of us, and service! There was no issue with the large crowd, and the restaurant was busy. We ate on the enclosed, back patio, which is a gem. It's a hidden treasure, if you have never been. Great place for a romantic dinner, dinner with friends, and large parties!! The food is beyond delicious!! The specialty Sunshine Roll, Bonsai Roll, Vertigo Roll, On the Border Rolls are a few of my favorites. All the rolls and food have such flavor and dedication to the art of sushi. Service is always the best, no matter when I've eaten there. LOVE this place and can't say enough good things about it!

We had a group of four.We
We had a group of four.We didn't feel like ordering so we asked the waitress to just have the chef keep making us food until we told him to stop. She and the chef handled the request perfectly. The pacing was great and the variety was awesome. We had a lot of things (specialty rolls, entrees, sashimi apps) that we would not have ordered otherwise. We would have just ordered some nigiri and sashimi. The three specialty rolls we had were awesome (On the Border, one with lemon, and one with Kobe beef). I highly recommend going here.

The "r u kidding me" roll
The "r u kidding me" roll was one of the best sushi rolls I ever had in my life. The upstairs area is super cute and the lychee saketini was amazing.

stopped on the way to the theatre; the creative choices were fantastic; FRESHEST fish ever!

Best Ahi and Wagyu ever!!
My Ahi Poke arrived...it was stunning to behold...and with just one bite my soul floated into the air and continued to hover throughout the remainder of the meal. The Kobe roll made me feel warm and fuzzy and completely content. Seriously the best I have ever tasted.

Love this place. It is a hiddden gem on a busy traffic street but no other restaurant next to it or around it. The fish they use are always fresh, and top grade. Creative sushi, but the taste is amazing. Appetizers, entrees, rolls, everything here is fine cuisine. You will not be disappointed.
My favorite is the Stardust roll, Spider hand rolls comes with 2 large pieces of soft shell crab, it's really amazing here.
You will not be disappointed, worth the wait.

Love this place!
Azuki is probably my favorite sushi spot in San Diego. The ambiance is great, I especially love the outdoor patio. Wait staff is great and accommodating (even for large and noisy parties which we often are). This is also a great place to have a date b/c the lighting is low and romantic.
The sushi is also very fresh! They also have specialty roles for those that love them, however even I enjoy some since they are not covered in mayo.
My one tip is to make sure to get a reservation b/c the place is small and fills up fast.

Azuki Sushi has become my favorite place for sushi. Their sushi and sashimi is very fresh!
5/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a hit!
Azuki has always delighted us with its excellent, fresh, well prepared sushi. When we brought our vegetarian son recently, we were delighted to find that Azuki has great, delicious choices for vegetarians as well. We also finally learned the actual meaning of the name "Azuki": the front door is embedded with 10's of thousands of the Japanese red beans by that name!

Great little place for sushi
Azuki was a nice place, with a very nice upper back semi-enclosed patio area! The salad was fantastic, and my date had the sushi, which she loved. My chicken terriyaki was just okay, and a bit overcooked and dry. The cocktails were good, and the service was also very good too! I would definitely go back, and would stick with the sushi!

Great sushi bar/restaurant
Great sushi bar/restaurant located two blocks from where I live, making it a true neighborhood restaurant. Food is very good but somewhat expensive, but not as expensive as the competitor four blocks to the north. Reservations are a must for Friday night; we saw people turned away who didn't have one.

Sushi was Awesome....
We'veeaten at many sushi places including some five star places and this place is right up there....excellent staff and great food...

Fresh, savory and creative.
Went here with some friends for the first time. We almost sat in the front but then saw the staircase leading to the back room. Make sure you sit in the back. OMG was my favorite dish. The different flavors and textures just meld perfectly together. Also enjoyed the stardust roll which burst in your mouth with citrus and garlic. The by the border roll was perfect pair with the stardust as it was spicy and smokey. Service was great and was relatively uncrowded for a Sunday afternoon. Will definitely be back next time I am in the area.

I am a regular at Azuki. The food is absolutely delicious!!! Service is always outstanding, and it's a wonderful place to go with friends, alone or a group. Can't say enough good things about Azuki!! MUST GO!!!

Great local place
As a visitor, you'd never know this place was here. I've been to SD many times and have hit all the trendy (great and not so great) restaurants, can't belive I haven't found this one until now. Don't be fooled by the location. They get busy so make a reservation. We ate in front, it looked like there was a back patio area but we did not make it that far. The sushi is not only fresh but innovative and beautiful. Highly reccommended.

Always a pleasure!
When I want to impress friends from out of town I bring them to Azuki. It's one of my favorite sushi restaurants in San Diego and I've tried quite a few. The black cod app is flavorful and melts in your mouth. The " Are you kidding me" roll drizzled with Truffle oil has a generous portion of crispy leeks on top which just this makes this already delicious roll that much more appetizing. I can't say enough good things about Azuki and would recommend this as one of the finer dining experiences in Banker Hill. One last thing. Make a reservation as it is always crowded but Ive never waited longer than 5 minutes for my table.

The restaurant offers a big selection of saki and. Beer to go with the sushi.
The service was good

Sushi gem in Banker's Hill
This place is my sushi go-to in the neighborhood. A visit isn't complete without their crispy rice + tuna and the kobe roll. Everything they make is delicious and fish doesn't get any fresher. I highly recommend this place for sushi aficionados.

In search of sushi outside of downtown/gaslamp area. Bankers Hill and Azuki, both a nice place to visit.
Escape the usual and enjoy great food and great service. The other positive reviews are spot on!!!

Our regular Sushi place was closed on Monday and we needed to find a place for a birthday dinner. We found Azuki on the internet and decided to try it after reading a number of positive reviews. What a pleasant surprise! Nice atmosphere, great service, and, most importantly, the food was excellent. The menu is quite extensive and they also have some interesting cocktails. This will be our new "go to" sushi restaurant.

College visits and Camp Pendleton
We got there 15 to 20 minutes early and we got our seats right away. The soft crab and the kobe sushi were outstanding. We ordered two rolls each and we were not disappointed. We were seated in the back of the restaurant. It was very relaxing, enjoyable place to be at and the services was great. My Daughter's didn't know what to think of this place because the restaurant looked out of place where it was located at but once we got inside and everything changed for the better. My daughter's been to a lot of sushi places but said this is the best so far. All our orders looked very appealing and we took our time savoring our food. We can't wait for our next visit to San Diego. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi.

Very good sushi option. Nice
Very good sushi option. Nice menu and good selections of sushi. Miso cod starter is quite well done, which is a sign of other good things they do well. Green roll and stardust were well made and tasty.

Another fantastic meal at Azuki! I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar and learning about the various fish/dishes that the sushi chefs make. I always feel at home, and have never had a meal I did not LOVE here! Fantastic service, great ambiance, friendly chef's, exceptional sushi!! Highly recommended!!

Impressive; Great Find
In a quiet neighborhood away from all of the activity further up 5th, Azuki feels like a private club - it is a destination, out of the fray. The food as well as its presentation is outstanding. Azuki is definitely hip and happening with a younger vibe but certainly welcoming to all.
Two of us thoroughly enjoyed house made shrimp gyoza, light and delicate; delicious Miso soup, chef's choice sushi assortment and inventive rolls, one of which had a thin strip of slightly charred beef which was excellent. We noticed the table next to ours ordered the "Adventurous" chef's special sushi and it looked intriguing. I would try it next time. For dessert, we shared Mochi ice cream which was a perfect ending to a special meal.

Wonderful Japanese experience
Azuki Sushi Lounge has remarkably good sushi, sashimi, and various other Japanese treats. It is not a fancy place, but it does not need to be. The food speaks for itself. Highly recommended for anyone craving good Japanese cuisine. We plan to return soon and often.

great sushi, service & ambiance
Lovely neighborhood sushi spot, they have traditional sushi (amazing omakase) and more creative rolls that have kobe beef or even truffle oil in them. Great happy hour and also great dishes for non sushi eaters (like short ribs and japanese fried chicken). Super friendly service and very pleasant ambiance + prices.

Love this place.
Atmosphere at Azuki is fabulous. Front room with the sushi bar is lively and it is always fun to sit at the sushi bar and watch the sushi being made. The back room is quieter and wonderful for small groups -- noise level is definitely lower. The sushi is very, very good.

Creative and Delicious Sushi
Azuki had some of the most creative and delicious flavor combinations in their sushi I had eaten in a long time. Everythign tasted extremely fresh, the wine list was large, and the service was immpecible. I'll definitely be back soon.
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Azuki has a fantastic menu and great japanese/fusion food items. Wonderful experience. We just had to wait about 20 minutes to get in despite our reservation, but it was worth it.

Most Authentic with Great Food
We have the best time here with the most unique creations. This is a true find in the city area of you can make it. We highly recommend this to groups and couples. There is an outside back area that can get rowdy too. Love it

Best meal in San Diego
This was the only meal during my stay in San Diego that provided great food, service, atmosphere and price. The food was awesome and their entire staff was attentive and friendly. I will be coming back!
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
Everything was amazing however it took a bit of time before the wait staff came over to greet us and start our order. I did like how every single server was willing to help each other and provide anything we asked for. A lot of other places, if it's not our server, thy don't care. I appreciate the team work.

Booked a table on Open Table last minute and glad we did as we got a comfortable corner table and were seated right away while other walk ups waited. I noticed the other tables were a bit close together and the Sushi Bar was elbow to elbow (request a table at one end or the other and away from the door if its chilly which is not very common in SD but it was tonight) Hostess and wait staff were great and the food was amazing. One of the Sushi rolls we had was wrapped with cucumber (thinly sliced) instead of rice paper and it was very refreshing tasty and inventive. After dinner we walked over to Balboa Park and it was a delightful way to cap an awesome evening. Parking was tough and no valet but well worth the effort.
