excellent food, gf friendly
We had a lovely experience here on our visit to SF. Staff was knowledgeable about gluten free, the menu listed which items were gf and vegan, they even brought out gf bread to start us off. Was excellent for our mix of gf, dairy free, vegetarian, and meat-eaters. All the food was delicious! Ambience was nice, and we were even treated to some middle eastern violin playing at a nearby table. A gem of a restaurant.

The restaurant is located
The restaurant is located in a hotel, but not a high-end hotel. The eating area is very colorful with very interesting decor. Service was friendly and efficient. We were the first ones there at 7 PM and the place filled up within 15 minutes and there was a line at the door. Appetizer, salad, main meal (orange chicken) and desert were all delicious and the price quite reasonable for San Francisco fine dining. Lots of younger people in attendance engaged in a lot of conversation, laughter and wine consumption. Would definitely go again.

Saha is one of the best restaurants
Saha is one of the best restaurants in the Bay Area for gourmet vegan food. It's not cheap, so it's good for special occasions, but you can expect to find unique and delicious dishes that you have never encountered before. Great food, great service.

Visiting from Boston
My husband and I tried this place on a whim. We love Middle Eastern food, but had never tried Yemini food in particular, and thought it would be fun to do so. Saha is actually a great combination of traditional Yemini dishes and upscale "California" cusine. We had some of each: the eggplant dip, fatoush salad, Yeimini meatballs, and the lamb loin with pistachios and mint. All excellent. We had a terrific server who recommended a great bottle of Zin to us that was also reasonably priced. Sorry we live so far away!

Located in a so-so hotel, this restaurant is in a challenged setting and neighborhood to be discovered. Yet its success has been solely attributed to the chef/owners dedication to good quality food. Not your ordinary middle eastern fare...traditional cuisine of Yemen is offered as well as twists on the theme. Good quality and preparation. Our server was outstanding!
Its a real hidden gem.

A Saha Surprise
I hadn't heard of Saha and chose it mostly for the location and that it was among few places that would take my last minute Saturday night reservation. I had no expectations. But now I've assigned Saha the distinction of one of my favorites! The food was creative and delicious. One among us was gluten intolerant and had never seen such an accommodating menu with many items marked as gluten free of vegan. There was even tasty gluten free bread and willingness to adjust some non GF meals to accommodate. The service was friendly and helpful. The place was small and had a lot of character. I look forward to returning many times!

A great find
I am just glad i found this wonderful restaurant so close to work. The food is delicious, the service is outstanding and the staff make you feel welcomed.
I will definitely go back .

My wife and I were staying in San Francisco with family, and had a wonderful dinner together here. The service was excellent--attentive, but not instrusive--and the food was amazing. We shared three of the medium / small dishes from the watiress' recommendations and loved each one, though the the lambeh sougar stood out most among three excellent choices. The dish is big enough for a main course for one person, and I would highly recommend it. Without drinks, everything was under $50. I look forward to going back again!

Saba never disappoints! Comfortable, friendly and great food. Fresh ingredient, true Middle Eastern Cuisine executed with great care.

My friend and I had small
My friend and I had small plates they were very good. Humus was one of the best I had in years.

Where has Saha been all my life? How is it possible it has been around for nine years and I just found it? Fabulous, fresh, healthy, tasty food. Authentic. Great for veggies and carnivores alike. Can't wait to go back.

Middle Eastern Delight
What a great find in the Hotel Carlton. Saha has a small yet lively dining room - not many empty tables here. The food selection is varied and exciting. There are many vegan and/or gluten-free items, all delicious. Impressive beer and wine list as well. I was very pleased to see a prix-fixe option - three items (soup/salad, small plate and entree) for $45. This was a great way to order for a first-timer. My dishes (kale & quinoa salad, fava bean cakes and sage duck) were absolutely delicious. We also received the flatbread (which has a yummy chickpea flour base) and I had a hard time not eating all of it. Our host went out of his way to get us a good table and our server was wonderul - polite and knowledgeable. I'll be back!

This was my 3rd time to Saha and I still continue to enjoy the experience. The flavors are very interesting and pretty unique, as compared to other restaurants in the city. The service is always friendly, but this one evening it was pretty harried as it was a full restaurant. They even have a good wine list, which I would not typically expect at a restaurant serving food from Yemen. Overall, a good experience with great flavors.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
unique, fresh flavors
Saha has a beautiful, dimly lit, comfortable feel, with reds & oranges & very pretty lamps & pillows. The food is recognizable as "middle eastern", but prepared in new & delightful ways. World music fills the air, in a very relaxed & rather small, intimate space. Nice wine & beer menu. Save room for dessert, and coffee or tea. Lovely! I've been to San Francisco twice, & saha was a choice two of those times, in a city full of amazing restaurants.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went with my family for a special occasion, but this could also be a great date spot. The food was well plated, perfectly cooked and the flavors were all amazing. The FOH staff was kind, knowledgable and prompt. My one complaint is that our table had to ask for more water multiple times, even when there were only two other tables at the end of the night. I will definitely visit again.

When you think of breakfast, you think of eggs(any style), bacon, hashbrowns and toast. But come to SAHA you will be surprised with yummylicious Yemeni Breakfast and Shakshuka. How many places in USA serve ethnic breakfasts? That too Arabic? Not many. SAHA is one place. We were there for brunch for my husband's birthday and guess what! Saha threw us a special dessert for free with candles! My hubby sure loved it and he had an awesome time!
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Saha is now serving brunch and it is nothing short of amazing. There are loads of vegan options for those vegan/vegetarians who don't want to have to special order their breakfast. Also, you can get traditional eggs and meat along with pancakes. For the adventurer there are crab cake benedicts, salmon benedict, spinach shakshuka, malfoufa, fouel and loads of other amazing dishes to excite the palate. Best of all the atmosphere is calm and collected and you don't have to wait and hour to get in...in fact I have always walked in and sat down right away.

Loved Saha for dinner and breakfast
We were visiting from Florida and stumbled into this gem in the Carlton Hotel. I am vegan and the menu is very vegan friendly, which is a rare find in and of itself. For dinner I ordered the small plates and each had unique but delicious flavors. My husband got the branzino which was also very tasty. If you like beets, order the small beet plate. It's to die for.
For breakfast I ordered the tofu burger since I am vegan and wasn't in the mood for oatmeal. It was also very delicious. My husband got the feta and spinach omelette and he said it was very rich, fluffy and tasty. If you find yourself in San Fran's tendernob, you must try this place.

Great food and service
We visited Saha the other day. We were new to this area and restaurant, so we did not know what to expect. Since we had three kids, we wanted to make sure we were there early, so we were there. The staff made us feel very welcome (even though the kids were the most well-behaved kids) and did what they can to have our kids happy. THe small plates were wonderful and the scallops were cooked to perfection. The duck dish was one of the best ducks we've had. The owner came to our table and made sure everything was great. THe desserts was very good and the kids loved it. All in all a very nice dinner that we all enjoyed.

Fabulous flavor, excellent service!
Saha was an amazing experience. We had taken my daughter for her birthday dinner to Saha. We all the prix fixe dinner. Every dish that we ordered was a gem. Flavored in a perfect way and cooked to perfection. The vegetables were cooked beautifully. The tea was excellent. We ordered dessert - baklava and the pyramid - both were absolutely perfect. The service was incredibly good. Our waiter, Hassan, was exceptional - very informative and attentive without being intrusive. All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience. I would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a great value and great dining experience.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
great food in Nob Hill
The food is excellent, and our server's recommendations were so helpful and exactly what we wanted. All the food is well seasoned and delicious. There is an extensive food menu and the wine list was just right. My only complaint was that there was a screaming 2 year old child at the table next to us. The parents had to take her out of the restaurant on 3 different occasions. That should be a clue to the parents that a 2 year really needs to be at home with a babysitter.
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was amazing, ambiance
Food was amazing, ambiance was excellent but the service was just ok. She was not that pleasant while taking the order or serving the food.

Great vegetarian find near Union Sq
Saha turned out to be a really good vegetarian/omnivore restaurant. Sometimes it is difficult to find good vegetarian food even in a cosmo city like San Francisco. If one of your party is vegetarian, Saha is a place to go. Although an arabian fusion restaurant with several lamb dishes, it also had several tofu offerings and vege entrees that were really good. The stuffed fried avocado salad was excellent!
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Middle Eastern Fusion
My husband and I are frequent diners of Saha. They have a unique menu of Middle Eastern food with a flare! Chef Mohamed Creates wonderfully delicious dishes that keep us coming back for more! It is a great spot for a group dinner or a romantic dinner for two. The service is superb with the Chef personally coming to the tables to introduce himself and make sure the diner is satisfied. I always recommend this restaurant to my friends and family and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a unique sophisticated menu if Middle Eastern dishes!

Delicious food, great prices
We went there for a friend's birthday recently, our party consisting of 2 vegetarians and 2 meat eaters. My friends were a bit skeptical because they had never heard of the place, were not so sure about having middle eastern food as a celebration dinner, and thought that being situated in a hotel is a bad sign for a restaurant. They came away raving. The prix fixed menus are a killer deal and allow you to taste quite a few different dishes. Almost everything we had was delicious, the one exception being the Maklouba which was a bit too sweet for our taste. The kale soup, various tagines, lamb dishes, scallops, etc. were all delicious. Very highly recommended and sure to be a regular stop for us.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good place for vegans &!meat lovers
I went there with friends. The service was great. Waiter was polite and very patient to accommodate my special dietary restrictions. I still had a great selection of food. Even though I cannot eat carbs.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Jemenes food? OH YEAH!
Been to Saha a while agao and picked it do to a city wide in SF, it was way better compared to all those corporate places and we were not only serves authentic food but also genuine service, way different to all those big restaurants- it is not a bargain but it is quality for sure. Excellent for an intimate dinner as well as a small groups get together. The owners are celebrating true San Franciscan hospitality - we were very satisfied !! Congrats to food and service. The Tagine is a MUST!!!!!
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
I love this place! there are so many great options, even for dessert! and I'm not talking about the usual-if-you're-lucky-lame-sorbet... the Slap Yo Mama is a wonderful treat, and if you're ok with honey, the baklava is the best. the service has slipped in recent months, not terribly, but just not as good as it once was. but the food is totally worth it!
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
I enjoyed our evening at Saha.
I enjoyed our evening at Saha. Highly recommend the food and warm atmosphere. Memorable!
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always great - good for all eaters
We love Saha. It's always delicious - there's choices for all types of eaters - we are vegan and can always enjoy good food while our friends can have their meat. It's just wonderful.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
The selections on their menu
The selections on their menu were very unique and the dishes were tasty.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
approachable but still different
most middle eastern places either offer fare that's too standard or too off the wall (like Aziza). Saha makes tagine, baklava and falafel in unique dishes that pleasantly surprise. we also tried knaffe for dessert which was a cheesy almost soufflé like consistency. yum! the short ribs were melt in your mouth and the spices did not overwhelm. the wine selections were spot on for the dishes. the owner Mohammed knows his stuff. we'll be back.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Can't Wait to Go Back
because there are so many intriguing choices on the menu. Very pretty room, sweet and helpful service, large portions reasonably priced, and delicious food. Our find for before the theatre (ACT), since there's validated parking just up the street, and they make sure you're out in time to re-park at Union Square Garage. Salmon baklava, bastilla & lamb tagine - yum! Not to mention slap yo' mama (you have to go to find out).
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
First time at Saha in SF
My friend and I found this place by accident and decided to try it. The two of us shared a lamb dish and a couscous veggie dish. Both were well prepared and tasty. We particularly enjoyed two kinds of bread. We tried two desserts. We loved the Yemeni cake and while the "Slap Yo Mama" was interesting it didn't seem to fit with the rest of the ethnic cuisine. Everyone was welcoming and service very attentive. The chef visited our table and said that he makes all food fresh daily. It tasted like it. I would like to return again with group of four so we could try more different dishes. Did I say the chai (spiced) was excellent.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Saha appears to be located in the middle of an expatriate Yemeni enclave in San Francisco. The food, service and ambiance are most excellent. You can dine a few ways. You can order a bunch of small plates, or go with the entree, or go with their moderately priced prix-fix menu.
Saha is very very good!
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
Food was great, odd location
Restaurant is enclosed in a hotel - you have to walk thru the lobby to get to it. Once inside it is very inviting with a warm feel. Service was very good- the waiter suggested smaller dishes as it was just two of us. We had a mix of Hummus and Baba to start with warm bread. Tagine was nice but could have had a little more meat. Other dish I cannot remember the name but was a lamb dish with a wonderful sauce. Wine prices are moderate especially by the bottle.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Creative take on Arabic
Came with friends and shared a lot of food. They all loved their meat dishes but could not stop eating the vegetarian dishes that I ordered! We were all impressed with the fine-tuned collision of diverse flavors. Something for everyone here and our server helped pick out two nice bottles of wine to go with.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is the only restaurant in SF that would truly please a group consisting of a Vegan, Vegetarian, Carnivore, and Pescatarian. Chef Mohammed knows how to layer flavors as well as any celebrity chef in the US - without the need for liquid nitrogen.
11/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
Surprise your guests
We always bring our out of town (and local friends whom haven't discovered it yet).. The restaurant embodies everything San Francisco: Locally owned, new and diverse. The flavors pop.
I am very glad the restaurant is doing great business. The restaurant remodel looks fresh and clean.

Gourmet Vegan Options
The food was outstanding - almost couldn't believe our dishes were vegan. Our non-vegan friends likewise enjoyed their dishes, a mix of vegan and non-vegan options. Service was also great. Definitely will be returning.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Finding a restaurant that catered to our party of 6 that eats Gluten Free, Vegetarian and meat was a challenge. Saha had it all and the food quality is everything that it promises. Next time I go back we'll order a load of small plates and share. Our table of 6 was ready and available as we strolled in 5 minutes before booking time.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
A 'HOT' Restaurant
Saha has an unusual menu featuring things like Egyptian okra (served 2 ways) and dishes from Yeman that make it an interesting standout. We went on a Friday night which may not have been a good choice. I was first put off when the couple in front of us who had no reservation was seated immediately seated while we had to wait 20 minutes. The dining room was ridiculously loud - we had to literally shout at each other to be heard and didn't realize that they were playing background music until the end of our meal when the dining room had started to clear out. The dining room as also extremely hot - I'm talking like 80+ degrees. But with all that, the food was very good and I'd go back, but maybe not on a busy Friday night.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Went on a whim with another couple and was very happy. We parked at 1101 Sutter for $7 by having our tickets validated at Saha. The food was delicious. We chose 6 small/ med plates, including two salads, and split two Baklavas--divine!
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
What A Find
We went there for brunch and I can't wait to get back there for dinner. Food was great. I had the frataja and loved it. Big, big thumbs up.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Delicious, inventive food
Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Food was innovative with tons of vegetarian options. Everything from the bread and zatar olive oil to the Slap Ya Mama dessert was delicious!
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Best and most original rest. in SF
Complex, unique and absolutely delicious dinner. Can't wait to go back. Lots of amazing vegan dishes, that sacrifice nothing. Wine list also unique, thoughtful, sophisticated, affordable and well edited. Everyone was warm and inviting and hip new space is vibrant, cozy and makes you feel like you are in a boutique hotel in Marrakech.

Brunch at Saha--worth checking out
I have always loved Saha and was exciting when I learned they were offering brunch. The place was fairly empty, so I'm guessing that word hasn't gotten out, because it was great. They offer the same innovative cuisine I've come to expect from Saha, but with a breakfast spin. I had the crab omelette and it was delicious (and a steal at $12). My companion had an omelette with feta, herbs, and lemon and raved about it. If you're looking for a place in the TL/Tendernob/Lower Nob Hill with great food that isn't loud and crowded, get to Saha before the brunch secret is no longer secret.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good for Vegetarians
Saha has excellent salads, a number of interesting veggie small plates and three or four veggie entrees, so for any vegetarians looking for a special night out in a place other than Greens of Millenium, I'd highly recommend Saha. We are not vegans, so I wasn't really paying attention to the number of vegan dishes, but as vegan options were definitely marked on the menu.

A Hidden Gem
Our friend who we took to this restaurant is the one who found it, but he was very dubious of "Hotel Restaurants". This truly great restaurant is located in the Hotel Carlton and was simply a surprise and delight. Their version of "Yemeni Cuisine" is a creative blend of Mediterranean and North African dishes. A warning would be to not get too carried away (like we did) with the starters as they are so delicious that we were replete when our superb entrees arrived. However I did find a bit of room to savor the exceptionally delicious and beautifully presented vegetarian Bastilla and our friend had the roast duck that he said was incredible. I highly recommend this restaurant that is friendly, happy, and beautifully designed.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our server was fantastic, he gave you the right amount of attention. It's trying when they are there all the time, he was found when needed. He described the food to perfection and you knew exactly what to look forward to.
