This small, carefully planned restaurant on the Philips Andover campus is a sophisticated treasure. Understated yet beautiful: a great combination of simple and sparkly-- polished wood AND polished glasses. Hamburger or crab cakes. House wine or high dollar.

My wife and I go about once
My wife and I go about once a month. The price range is on the high end of reasonable but the food is well worth the price. The staff is super friendly and always remember us. They have also made us a few things special that weren't on the menu. The bar is real nice for a high end drinks experience the rest of the place is great for a sit down meal as a date, special occasion or even a family meal with older kids.

Overall the meals were very very good. My fish was outstanding, plain new england baked haddock. The only critique we could make were that the mashed potatoes were dry and bland. They could have used a little more cream and butter. I would go again and just ask for a substitution on the potatoes.

Since Samuel's has been renovated, the ambiance is less stuffy and more chic. It's a great upscale environment with a great menu and great bar. Good for a special occasion when you want to remain local.

The food was amazing. The flavor profiles were perfect. The room was beautiful and quiet. The server did a good job but had to many tables to wait on and seemed to get flustered.

Food was delicious. We had the Field of Greens salad and the scallops with risotto. French martini was very good as was the wine by the glass. This was the third time we've eaten there since the renovation and new menu. Samuel's never disappoints!

Group near us was very noisy thus the energetic grade. Food was delicious. Steaks done perfectly, salmon was fresh and wonderful. Waitress, Alyson, was very attentive. We'll be back!

Good food and service
My wife and I tried Samuel's for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. We both enjoyed it very much. The food was good and the service was excellent. The wine list is not extensive, but there are some good choices. I would definitely say it is one of the best choices in the Andover area. We will be back.

Out of Town Dad
I always enjoy the dinner's with my daughter at the Andover Inn. As she is a student at Philips Andover, a dinner at the Inn is a special event that provides the ability to reconnect with my daughter, have great conversation in an atmosphere that makes her feel special, and being close to the school allows us not to have to go off campus to find a great place to make memories.

Terrific brunch: variety of menu and level of cuisine.Hand carved roast beef.Elegant smoked salmon and shrimp.Omelets cooked to order. Fish, chicken, fresh fruit, salads and an opulent dessert bar.NOTE: Your servers are students and they may not tell you that omelets need to be ordered at your table and not at the buffet. Also, that there is a Bloody Mary bar where you can go by yourself and have whatever you want added to either just tomato juice or go the whole way with vodka and a wide assortments of hot sauces and condiments. We had to ask about these, though, and were not told. But it was no big deal and the servers were very polite, if not well trained [smile]. The PRICE IS RIGHT, too. $26/person not including alcohol.

The ambiance at the Andover Inn is elegant and would make you feel very special. We had 7PM reservations and arrived a bit early but were seated after a brief wait in the lounge area. Our waitress, Olivia, was very attentive without being intrusive. The menu although not expansive was more than adequate and the food was nicely prepared and presentation was very nice but not pretentious. We were a party of six and all enjoyed their meal. The appetizers were excellent and I especially enjoyed the cheese plate. .
We are a group of six who have gotten together about every six weeks to sample the Boston to NH restaurants and Samuel's was one of the best we've experienced in the six years we've been gathering.

A romantic and charming restaurant
A romantic and charming restaurant at the Andover Inn. Perfect not just for parents accompanying their children to Phillips Academy, but to anybody who wants to have a very good dinner. The service at the bar is also well recommended. The Bartender knows his job and offers a very good service to the clients.

Always a great experience
Great food and service as usual. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Very quiet in July here and easy to,book a table. Thanks, Brian (our server).

Wonderful dining experience
My husband brought me to Samuel's to celebrate my birthday. He most certainly picked the perfect place. The ambiance, the service and the dining room were fantastic, but the FOOD!! It was out of this world. The best tuna tartar I have ever had. I plan on going back again, and again.

Very comfortable and inviting
The food was superb from salad to entree to dessert to coffee. But aside from that, everyone made us feel so welcome and looked after. We were there for a leisurely evening. Some other time we may have been bothered by a little delay in seating and taking our order but we were approached several times and apologized to for the wait. We weren't ever rushed and the staff wasn't intrusive. Just a wonderful evening.

We ate there twice in a week since it is one of the few good restaurants in the area and we were visiting the area. The service was attentive and our reserved table was available when we arrived. The drinks from the bar were well mixed. The lobster risotto special was too rich and needed a bit more lobster and fewer pieces of lobster shell. The prices are NYC prices. We were never rushed and were able to sit and dine which was a pleasure.

Great Sunday Brunch!
It helped that it was a beautiful fall morning, but Sunday Brunch at The Andover Inn was really a treat. The facility is beautiful and the keyboard and bass combo added the perfect ambiance. The brunch is a self- service buffet with a full range of pastries and breads, cheeses, salads, fruit, entrees, and eggs cooked to order. We sampled a bit of everything, and the food across hhe board was excellent. We found The Andover Inn the perfect spot to enjoy a great brunch and catch up with friends.

First time at Samuel's
My wife and I wanted to try a new place in the greater Andover area and our neighbor had recommended Samuel's recently. We were about to go to a different restaurant but the use of OpenTable was actually a deciding factor to try Samuel's because we could get a reservation easily.
We had a very pleasant experience. The atmosphere I think was noted as "casual elegance" which I'm not sure what that means. I was in a golf shirt and slacks (business casual?) but the dress code ranged from jeans and a decent shirt to jackets and ties.
The food was great. I loved my baked scrod with crab stuffing and my wife loved her short ribs. Delicious and the portions were nice. The staff was excellent, very attentive without hovering.

Delicious anniversary dinner!
Fine dining in a old-world yet updated atmosphere. Service was very attentive but not too much. Food was melt in your mouth delicious. In addition to my filet mignon dinner, I loved the creamy Squash soup made with apple cider.
9/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
My family and I were pleased with our menu choices. I had the lime coriander swordfish which was very buttery and somewhat sweet. The salmon comes with fried brussel sprouts - tasty! The field of greens salads were excellent.. We shared an appetizer of the lobster crepes - delicious. Entrée portions are very large- next time I will do a half plate. Wine choices are in different price ranges.
I do miss the character of the old Andover Inn as it is now just another upscale restaurant and somewhat generic. I liked the former bar location off the lobby, tablecloths, and a dining room with a piano rather than a flat screen TV. I think I even recall a mural in the ladies room - also gone. All in all, it was a pleasant dining experience.

Wonderful brunch buffet
We took my mom last Sunday for brunch for her birthday. Everyone found lots of things to love on the buffet and we enjoyed the jazz duo. Of particular note were the chicken stuffed with ham & cheese, the eggplant roll-ups, grilled asparagus, beet salad, and Black Forest Cake. There was a hot food station, a beautiful salad table, and a dessert station. The server could have been better about keeping our coffee and water refilled, but overall it was a lovely outing.

Great place for lunch
We went here for a work lunch to celebrate a special occasion. The decor is elegant and the atmosphere is very pleasant. We all enjoyed ourselves and were in and out in an hour. Our waitress was attentive, but did not hover. It's a great place for a group or just a couple. Low noise level, so its a good place to talk. We would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a great place to have a delicious meal. My only suggestion would be to have more soup choices!

When I first walked in I'll be honest I thought we were going in for pub food which is not what I was expecting. So glad we did not turn around and walk out. The food and service were top notch not to mention the extensive wine list. We met friends there for dinner and were all happy with our meals. I ordered the salmon which was excellent and my husband ordered the duck and he was very pleased with his meal as well. We are very much looking forward to going back in a few weeks with some family members.

vibrant cozy upscale tavern
Set in elegant old school inn on campus of Phillips Andover academy, the place obviously got a very well thought out complete renovation. Perfect combination of lively bar, romantic tables that felt private yet part of the action. Food was stellar starting with a salad with pumpkin seeds and frozen grapes. Amazing. And just outside the window were the various comings and goings of various people involved in the school. Altogether a great experience.

Night out at Samuel's
We were seated right away. The decor and atmosphere were very comfortable and warm. Our server was very helpful and attentive to our needs. The variety of drinks was excellent. My vodka martini was top notch. We all raved about our dinners. The coconut Creme' broulee was the best I have ever had. This was one of the most enjoyable meals we have had in years. We will definitely return.

We recently enjoyed dinner for 4 at Samuel's. The service was impeccable, as was the food. We thoroughly enjoyed the Duck, Salmon and Pasta primavera. We will definitely visit again!

Unexpected Find in Suburbia!
My husband and I recently dined at Samuel's as it was close to our twins' daycare and they were having a special night out event there. We assumed that it would just a quick bite spot where the food would be ok for the convenience and location. However, we were pleased to find that the place was nicely furnished, staff was pleasant and the food was excellent! We will definitely return and recommend to others!
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
This was our 2nd visit to Samuel's and the food and service was just as good as the 1st time which is the reason we returned. The food is wonderful and the wine selection is awesome. We dined with relatives who were pleasantly surprised and they as well as my husband and I will definitely be back. I would recommend making a reservation. Once word gets out you will be hard pressed to find a seat in the dining room or at the bar.

Lunch with art
Had lunch at Samuel's before walking across the street to the terrific Addison Gallery. The restaurant is intimate and gentile, without being stuffy. I had a generously portioned flatbread with pork, goat cheese, cranberry compote, and fried onions. Very tasty! My companion had the soup and sandwich combo and was equally impressed. The service was very good, and the atmosphere was
low key and convivial. Definitely a nice, light lunch experience at an otherwise upscale eatery.

On the expensive side, but pleasant. As an Andover alum it was easy to feel at home. I'll rate it again depending on whether I can get a room reservation for my 65th reunion in 2015.
