Still lives up to it's reputation!
I remember dining here in 1985 and having a great evening with good friends and great cuisine. Returning brings back such fond memories. If you've never dined at the Elite, do so now. If you've been before don't wait as long as I did to go back.

Have eaten here for multiple anniversaries, we always request (and are given!) a booth and feel very cozy. Food has always been fantastic, LOVE the appetizer shrimp and cornbread, with a gunpowder martini. Never been disappointed here, will be coming back as long as they are open! :)

Don't miss the Elite Cafe.
Don't miss the Elite Cafe. It's a great blend of terrific New Orleans food (biscuits, etoufee, gumbo. seafood salads, and beignet), atmospheric interior (separate booths and a classic New Orleans even San Francisco look), and professional and knowing service. Go and enjoy!

The staff was great. Troy
The staff was great. Troy especially. We sat down at 9:00pm, didn't order until 9:55pm and we never felt rushed once even though they stop serving at 10:00pm.

Great food, Great service
I brought a friend who is from New Orleans. It was his birthday and I thought it would be great for him to enjoy some home cooking. We were not disappointed, the food was great. The service was excellent and they went above and beyond to make a special dessert for my friend!

Been going to the Elite since
Been going to the Elite since its early days. Were there to celebrate anniversary of our first date. Still great on all levels. They really have done a great job of lending a New Orleans flair to California Cuisine. Have to admit though....when I ordered blackened filet....although excellent....just a few thin slices over a bed of vegetables. It did make me long for the days when it came as a full filet and anything green had to be ordered as a side. Along with the oyster bar...the "old" Elite was just more of a Southern dining experience that was totally unique in San Francisco.

Elite Dining on Fillmore
Always a good, friendly restaurant with good food and located in a wonderful little area of S.F. on Fillmore filled with fun shops to stroll and the Sundance theatre just down the road.

The service was intilaly attentive
The service was intilaly attentive and then became less so when the restaurant became busy. More importantly, we booked a table for 5 and they put us in a booth for 4 with a chair at the end of the table which was super uncomfortable, right in the flow of traffic.
However, the food was very good and the staff were super nice. I woudl go back in a heartbeat.

The biscuits , raw oysters and the crusted catfish were great.

Fun, vintage, yummy!
The Elite Cafe, with it's comfortable, vintage booths that transport you into the 1920's era, was fun. The people were welcoming, even though we were early for dinner. After a drink at the bar, we sat down and proceeded to order the oysters, deviled eggs, mushroom soup, mac and cheese and salad washed down with a delightful but pricey ($50)chenin blanc. They didn't have the rose that we wanted.
Everything was delicious.
Afterwards,we took a stroll around the somewhat funky but chic neighborhood that embodies the Elite.

Excellent flavor! Best corn
Excellent flavor! Best corn bread I ever had. Kobe steak was tender even at well done level. Sauce went really well with the beef. Blueberry bread pudding was delicious. I question the pairing with lemon ice cream. It's refreshing, but I feel like maybe vanilla would have been better. We had a booth which gave us privacy and felt like we were on a train. I also ordered the seafood gumbo. It was good, but it didn't knock me off my chair. I heard someone rave about it on TV, so I had high expectations. Service was good. It's a neighborhood gem.

The food was wonderful and
The food was wonderful and I loved the atmosphere of this old-style gem. I had a booth which provided both some privacy and noise reduction. My only complaint was the slow service of the food. I don't know if they were short staffed on the night that we were there, but we arrived at 7:15 for dinner and did not get out until close to 9:15. I would have expected to be finished closer to 8:30-8:45. I noticed that even the hostess was serving dinners and the restaurant was not completely full, so maybe it was just an "off" night for service. Otherwise, the place was great.

The Elite always delivers. The classic bar and atmosphere is always wonderful, the cocktails are excellent, and the southern food is always tasty and satisfying.

Excellent food + service
All entrees were excellent---server was very attentive and helpful in dealing with one of our party's food allergies---and the biscuits are to die for, what can I say?

Another great nite at Elite
The Elite Cafe never falls short on drinks, food, atmosphere, and valet parking!!!!! This spot has become an institution in the Fillmore district. Its a great destination for two or eight. This time we were having a celebration and had it all cocktails, wine, appetizers, soup, entrees, desert, coffee, and the famous "biscuits". With all that food and friends we were all left satisfied. Also brunch is a must!!

Great comfort food
Had a girls night at Elite Cafe and ordered all starters and sides. I highly recommend the biscuits, sweet potato fries and mac and cheese. Great ambiance, service and thoroughly enjoyable experience! Loved the romantic little booths.

The Manager is a star and made the experience very enjoyable

accommodating staff and great food
Had their famous deviled eggs and an heirloom tomato salad. We brought our 1 year old son and they let us have a nice front booth. Had a great time with friends from out of town.

First Time and will return
Liked the atmosphere, private booths and the food. All enjoyable during a very busy Jazz Festival day.

Great New Orleans style food
We arrived early and were accomodated immediately. We had requested a booth and that request was honored.
The menu offerings made for a difficult decision but the waiter was helpful and his direction to the gumbo, jambalaya and
biscuits with beer was a perfect pairing. The portions were certainly generous, the shrimp cooked perfectly and the sauces were
flavorful, layered and memorable. We have made reservations to take visiting friends next month who once lived in New Orleans and love this style of food.

The food was very tasty and
The food was very tasty and a beautiful presentation. I was a bit surprised that the menu selections hadn't changed in the
years since my last visit. Also, they didn't seem to offer any "specials" of the day. The waiters were very good in that they know
how the food was made, etc. and the service was also good. I will go back, but it isn't a spot I would go weekly.

What a Treat!
Always looking for a great place for savory creole style food. Elite never disappoints, Hushpuppies are a must for starters (the Remoulade is incredible). Plenty to share if having the Etouffe and Jambalaya. Don't miss the incredible pecan pie.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Old school charm; New Orleans taste
My only regret is that I've waited so long before coming here. It's everything I hoped it would be - old school bar, booths and decor - awesome fresh food with a New Orleans kick - great drinks, great friendly service. Not at all stuffy. Jambalaya, corn bread, pecan pie, brisket, deviled eggs - all thumbs up! Will definitely be back for more. Bar was comfy, friendly, poured a good drink - great place to wait for your dining companion(s). Request a booth when making your reservation.
8/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a party of 8 in from Dallas and could not have picked a better place to dine. The food was fantastic and the wine was reasonably priced and a great selection. From the hush puppies to the BBQ shrimp everything was just perfect.

Comfort food in a great setting. Loved the bartender and the manager. Very friendly, fun place.

New Orleans in Pacific Heights
The deviled eggs and hush puppies were the perfect starters with our drinks----just a bit of a kick, but not too much. Then our entrees were the untraditional (shelled) barbecued shrimp, hominy-encrusted catfish and the mussels in a perfectly spiced broth; we argued as to who made the best selection. There were no arguments when it came to dessert----the pecan pie was warm and oh, so good!
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
A neighborhood gem, indeed. Blackened fish never disappoints, seafood gumbo always hits the spot, and the Zinfandel is my fav.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is great. We often split an entree because they are pretty big. This also lets us order more dishes, including DESSERT.

Down home southern cusine
This is my go to for southern cuisine and hospitality. I had been in New Orleans this past week and when I got home I was still craving southern food - especially seafood. The gumbo and catfish are just delicious and don't get me started about the biscuits. So good!
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was good the ambience was good, but I feel the service was hurried and the staff could of been more friendly.

Great Sunday Brunch!
Elite Cafe was bustling this past Sunday morning. We were a few minutes late and were relieved to see that the restaurant will hold your reservation for 15 minutes. It seemed that the early guests got the outdoor tables, next time! We were a party of (2) and sat in between what appeared to be a group of (6) guests that knew each other. The tables were a bit close for comfort, but the place is small and cozy. Next time I will ask to be sat in a booth! All in all great experience. Will go back again.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Just a great, ole' place: fun at the bar, good New Orleans food. Delicious.
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
good if you like new orleans food
Good new orleans style food. The gumbo and jambalaya was outstanding with huge proportions. Tried the butternut squash ravioli and while the flavors were good, it was floating in oil. Biscuits, oysters and salads were great! Could use more seafood or vegetarian options/sides on the menu.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
"The food needs to be a little
"The food needs to be a little spicier" - says my partner who is from Louisiana. Other than that, Elite Cafe is a great neighborhood restaurant. Cajun-Creole cuisine with California sensibilities.

Really enjoyed the seafood
Really enjoyed the seafood gumbo. Service was excellent. Charming atmosphere. Neat zydeco style music. Surface parking can be a problem.

Elite Cafe worthy of the name
Old school SF atmosphere. Wonderful food - New Orleans dishes with slight SF twist. Attentive service. Love the booths. Drinks are as they should be - short and stiff.
