Different and delicious
Small space, but big on food. If you enjoy exotic meats and a meal slightly out of the ordinary, give Gentlemen Farmer a try. I had the curried garlic snails and wild boar chop and both were outstanding. The flavor of the snails was divine. My boyfriend had the foie gras torchon - so rich and buttery. He chose the ostrich for his entree and it was cooked to perfection. Really delicious and not as gamey as expected. The restaurant is tiny and lends itself to quiet conversation, but it is not stuffy or intimidating at all. A great find!

We came on a slow night and were treated to an unbelievably delicious meal. The menu is daring and adventurous yet worth the tasting. We will be back.

Must get items-snails, etc.
The snails, the foie gras, and the ostrich were to die for!

It's BYO on Sundays, and I dined with 3 others and enjoyed a great meal at Gentleman Farmer. This was my fourth time in about two years, and the dishes are always delicious. This time I had sauteed baby octopus with chorizo, followed with grilled lamb chops, and finished with a pecan torte. A friend had a lobster salad that was generous with the crustacean. Great service with terrific wine glasses.

Small restaurant with rustic
Small restaurant with rustic feel. The lobster tail with truffle appetizer was excellent, tasty and creative. Smoked duck salad was also delicious. Mixed reviews on the baby octopus appetizer, where most of us were not fans. The tournedos main course was exquisite. Would definitely go again.

We consider ourselves foodies and often look for menus offering unsual choices we normally do not cook at home.
Gentleman Farmer exceeded our expectations.
The scallop with foie grass appetizer was a 5 star dish.
My wife ordered the rabbit which was wonderful , and my wild boar entree was very good and left me wanting a little bigger portion
It was our first time here, the small place was at its full capacity (20) with only one staff member having the role of hostess and sever.
Diane's hospitality and service was first class.
The owners's eclectic music playlist added to the wonderful experience of feeling we were having dinner at our home.
Congratulations. We've added GF to our NYC favorite's list
We will be back !!

The service was first rate, with our server being accommodating while unobtrusive. She attended to the temperature (it was an unseasonably cold day) and turned up the heat, and she was knowledgeable about the menu and wine options. We ordered the lobster and escargot for appetizers (lobster was better). For entrees, we had bison ribs and stuffed quail, both good. Wine selection was excellent. Will definitely come back!

One of the best kept secrets of the LES. The snails are something special, and the wabbit was amazing.
The staff look after you so well, and are so friendly, we felt like regulars, even though this was our first time dining here.
The first, but definitely not the last!

Creative and beautifully executed
Creative and beautifully executed French food. A real surprise on LES.

Small but awesome!
This place is TINY! But the service is great and the food is amazing!! Great combinations of flavors not usually seen.

Excellant dinner experience
Excellant dinner experience at Gentleman Farmer! Food was unique and locally sourced- great pairings! We had the Bison Rib and Wild Boar... so tender and cooked just right. Our host/waiter Daniel was super friendly and had great recommendations on everything we tried! Would totally eat here again and recommend this spot to all! Thanks for a great night!

Outstanding small place
Superb place with imaginative menu. Very small but more like dining with friends rather than a fancy restaurant. Totally terrific. A star of the "new" lower east side.

What a great little restaurant!
We were a group of 7. The waitress was very personable and knowledgable. We had lots of questions and needed a lot of tending to and she was great. Phenomenal wine list. Amazing food.

Great Birthday Dinner
The food was fantastic at this tiny French find. We were 10-15 minutes late, but they accommodated us... until we wanted dessert and they asked us to leave because they had another party coming in and needed our table. The price you pay for a place that seats about 16-20 I guess. Every dish we ordered was WONDERFUL, server was great, wine was delish and I would definitely go back.

Gem on the LES
Great service and food. Try the curried snails - they are excellent!

Every dish was a winner
We went here to celebrate my wife's birthday and while the place is extremely tiny our waitress Diane was incredibly attentive and went above and beyond. Every dish we had was a culinary slay. I highly recommend the Bison Tartare and the Filet Mignon with Fragois. After dinner we asked for the bill as we were stuffed. She still surprised us with a dessert for my wife's birthday. Delicious too. Well played.

Great neighborhood spot
Cozy, romantic, neighborhood spot. The service was wonderful(5stars for Daniel) but frankly the food was good but a bit on the gamey side for me. It is definitely a French restaurant, but I would have enjoyed the snapper a bit better if the sauce was a bit lighter and not so rich.

This place has all the elements of a gem. It has great food, attentive service, good lighting.. The place is perfect for an intimate dinner and almost embodies "romantic dinner spot". Long, but really small hidden place that should have 2 hour waits but is pretty clear on weekdays. Whats also cool is that it's close to les - so you can lighten the evening with some more roughly bars but also look u care and know something other New Yorkers don't. My only negative is that the music could dip into the overly emotional... Bon iver played.

Very nice. Good little menu. Interesting selection of foods. Short but good wine list. Intimate dining room. Attentive service. A very nice meal, very nice night. We will return.

Second Time's As Nice
This was my second visit with the same friend. We both really liked the food, service, and cozy space.

Tiny space. Big flavor. Loved it. I felt like we had found a secret place in the middle of the big city.

One of the best meals have had in NYC. Quiet romantic spot that makes you feel like you are not in the city.

cozy + cool
This was the perfect cozy + cool place for a fine autumnal meal of roasted beets, polenta and quail over a yummy glass of sancerre. The music was hip without trying to hard, the crowd seem like solid lower Manhattanites, and the owners are utterly charming.
What a lovely experience all around. So quintessential.

The menu is awesome, and our party of 3 loved every dish. The lamb is wonderful, although small. Service was friendly and fast. It's a very small restaurant with dim lighting. It's quaint and romantic. Highly recommended.. But a reservation is must, as there are not a lot of tables. You'll love it!

Small, elite with great food
Local spectacular place on lower east side with incredibly attentive service and imaginative creative menu. Very small in intimate. Don't go there because I want to get in! LOL

Great little spot! Had the salmon tartare and the mushroom tortellini, paired with a great red. Will definitely go back for a bigger, "winter" meal.
Definitely more on the "date" side, but it was also a Monday, so it probably wasn't buzzing as much as it is later in the week.
11/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
Very small, intimate setting. Food was great, service was attentive but maybe a bit slow. Definitely worth a return visit.

The food was delicious but
The food was delicious but the portions were definitely small, across both the appetizers and the mains. So while although I was very impressed with the flavors, the service, the ambiance, I was feeling like I didn't have enough to eat. Example - one small rib on the $29 "bison rib" main course, at first we thought it was a mistake. On the filet mignon, there were about 4 pieces of roasted vegetables on the plate besides the meat and toast underneath. The portion size was the one sore point of the evening... Kudos again though to the server, who was sweet and tried very hard to give us a great experience.

Cozy and fabulous
Loved it - we'd just arrived from a flight and it was perfect - food and scene.
You are close to your neighbours in the seating but we actually sat beside super nice people who we ended up having a drink with at another place after!
Service could be slightly more attentive, but I also appreciated that they were nice and low key.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
I brought two friends who are big on the culinary scene and they wanted to lick every plate! They just changed a pasta recipe from making it in house to an outside vendor ... and it wasn't good. Dry. Hard.. That was a bummer! Don't skimp. The food and wine are so wonderful, hand make the pasta! See you soon. Service was exceptional. So friendly and inviting. A must go to.

True neighborhood gem
No more than 10-12 tables in this small neighborhood restaurant, and one server, sommelier, preparer - also the owner. Appetizers were heavy on the pate and tartare, would have liked to see more variety there, but the salmon tartare was delicious, very tender and just the right amount of dill. Very nice wine list, especially by the glass. Service attentive but the restaurant was only 1/2 full at the time, not sure what it would be like when full, perhaps he has another staff member come in. I would highly recommend it, I also had the duck salad which was wonderful, just the right size and generous amount of duck without being overwhelming - a light option for late night dining.

Possibly one of the best meals that I have had this year. Lovely décor, amazing food. Will come back again and again.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food, highly recommend the bison Tar Tar. Went with a group of 4, and we shared apps and entrees. Bison Chop, Lamb, Quail, and Filet were all excellent and the bottle(s) of Cotes Du Rhone was very good and affordable.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
First off, as a service industry veteran, I notice everything during my dining experiences. Saying that, I must commend Gentleman Farmer on what was one of my best, if not the best, dining experience I've had in NYC. The food was enlightening, all the flavors bridged well, and for what the prices are, an absolute steal. Our server Karim, (Kareem?) was an absolute treasure, and Gentleman is lucky to have him. The place is small, intimate, the music outstanding, so do yourself a favor and please visit this neighborhood gem.
11/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
This restaurant is a great find! I bit of a "hole-in-the-wall", with very few tables, but that adds to the great environment. Also, the food was phenomenal and very reasonably priced for the quality!
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
amazing romantic spot
This little unassuming restaurant is tucked away on Rivington Street just east of Forsyth street. It's a very intimate spot with limited seating (you MUST have a reservation on weekends). The interior is simple and rustic with charming decor, soft warm lighting and perfectly selected music (indie rock/folk). We ordered the bison tartar, goat cheese salad and split the bison ribs, everything was amazing – you can tell the chef is a passionate artist who truly loves his craft. The service is wonderful, with a friendly, knowledgable staff. If you have the chance, definitely check this place out with a special someone!
