NYC needs a restaurant like this!
Great local food. Large portions reasonable prices. Make a reservation. We had ox tail soup, lop Cheung fried rice, Terri beef and boneless short ribs. Everything was delicious. The chicken wings were not oily and very crispy. We are from NYC but we can't wait to go back.

Ono Local Grinds!
Have dined here several times & have never been disappointed in the food! Great for groups since it's family style. This time we had tofu salad, lup cheong fried rice, fried chicken, boneless kalbi, & ahi belly--all outstanding! Great place for local style dining.

Wish we had Side St in NY
We are from NY and had to come back one more time before leaving. We had to have the lop cheong fried rice again but wanted to try other things. We had the pork chops which we okay. The fried calamari was different large thick pieces that were very tender and delicious. The farmers salad was fantastic, with avocado, shrimp, butter leaf lettuce, capers and fried sweet potato shavings in a scrmptuous light dressing. The ahi poke was tasty and fresh. The ahi belly was new for us- very different and good. Everything was great, service, ambiance, food- but you have to make reservation.. Wish we had a Side St in NY.

Go With Friends!
We love Side Street. Kalbi ribs are to die for and we love all the salads. Everything is served family-style, so, unless you want A LOT of leftovers, go with a group. Friendly, casual, and good beer. It can get loud, especially if there are big games on the the televisions, but it is worth it.

We went as a group for Mother's Day dinner. We had reservations and only had to wait a short while. The place was packed.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
Took my wife, Mother-in-law, and brother-in-law's Mother-in-Law with the whole brood to dinner. Could not have been a better experience! Great food, great service at a great price.

The place is very popular; hence, the reason for its delicious and high priced food.

The atmosphere was fun, the food so 'ono and customer service very friendly.
5/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Restaurant staff is always the friendliest. We even ran into someone coming into work in the parking lot (we didn't realize she was a worker there) and she was just filled with Aloha. Food is practically a no brainer - close your eyes and point at something on the menu and its great! We love bringing friends from the mainland because its such a great representation of local style food.

The food is always very good.
The food is always very good. We had to wait approximately 8 minutes before I had to ask if we had a server. Our server was late arriving to work so the server I flagged down was nice enough to take our order. We should not have been seated in a section with no server. I guess that's Hawaiian Time, lol!!!

We have been to Side Street
We have been to Side Street many times, at both locations. It never disappoints. Food is terrific, friendly and casual ambiance and great servers. It is one of my favorite places to bring out of town guests, especially when there is a big group with diverse tastes. The family style service gives an opportunity to try a lot of dishes and not be obligates to get into something that does not suit you. I just wish that we could go often enough to try the things on the menu that are not out standard favorites. The boneless kal-bi is a new favorite.

It was a great place to celebrate
It was a great place to celebrate Father's Day, all our favorite foods and in abundance. We always enjoy the delicious entrees and atmosphere. Not to mention the fine and friendly service from all who work there.

The Right Choice
Recently I had an opportunity to thank a couple of close friends for their support. Side Street provided the perfect location to meet in Kapahulu, always has great atmosphere and food to boot. We watched the NBA's game 6 on their many TV's and just had a great time for the 2.5 hours we were there.

Great taste of Hawaii's cuisine
Side Street Inn on da Strip (SSI) is a great local hangout and a great place to sample foods from the diverse cultures represented in Hawaii. We had the ono (delicious) fried rice with lup cheong, ahi belly, the famous fried prok chops and the humungous Chinese chicken salad. All of the dishes were very tasty and true to what I grew up with. They also have a good selection of desserts with an island flair, such as mac nut gelato, passion fruit creme brulee. A must try for visitors!

Lots of lots of food per order.
Lots of lots of food per order. I am not sure if their theme is a sports bar or a restaurant as they have TV with live sports coverage. Very crowded. Make sure you make reservations before you go.

Great food! Everything was delicious and love, love eating family style!
7/2/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food in a very local setting
I was very impressed by the food at Side Street Inn. Takes local food to another level.
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Late Lunch Gathering
Food, drinks and atmosphere were great! The boneless steak, pork chops, french fries and tofu were tasty and fresh. Didn't have to wait too long for the food once we ordered. We had fun and wish we had more time to spend there.

Great lunch spot
Hungry for local food? Want a cozy setting? Side Street Inn on Kapahulu is perfect. As usual, the boneless Kalbi was tender and tasty; served with watercress and kim chee. Their famous pork chops? Meat lovers who love chewing the meat off the bones will be satiated. Every bite of fried rice had morsels of meat and veggies. Chinese chicken salad also had chicken and won ton in every bite.
Great place to take out of town guests, especially expats who miss local food.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We got there early enough to make a minor change. Originally booked for 8 people, but needed to add on one more person. No problem. Sat in a roomy enough area. Our waiter, to my surprise, was the waiter my husband and I had when we had our anniversary dinner there 2 years ago!! How neat is that?! He was very friendly and knowledgable that everyone on the table (it was everyone's first time there [some from mainland, some from neighbor island] except for me) was comfortable and he made suggestions to help us in ordering the food.
All in all, it's a great place with wonderful food that's plenty for prices. Everyone was stuffed. And yes, we will come back again!!

An Enjoyable Evening with Friends
The host help were gracious and accommodating and didn't rush us although some members of our party were late. The food was just delicious. We especially enjoyed the tofu salad and the lilikoi ribs. We also had the pork chops, fried rice, and chicken gizzards. The portions were very generous and five dishes were more than enough to satisfy six of us plus a little leftovers. The downsides were that when we ordered two desserts to share, only forks and napkins were brought and we had to ask for plates. Also no "thank you" from the host staff who were just standing around the check-in area as we left. Many of the restaurants we frequent, anyone close by will say "thank you" or "mahalo" as we leave.
8/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great ambiance and comfort food
We had the Chinese sliders, mochiko chicken, hamachi and peanut butter crunch. Everything was very good accept that the hamachi was too salty. Service was friendly and overall good. We will definitely be back.

Local and Southern Comfort Food
When you just want a good meal without all the fancy stuff...always exactly what you are expecting.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
My family had very good dinner time. We ate the Kimuchi fried rice, the fried pork and ahi poke. Very cool food and service. We want to go to SSinn Kapahulu again, ASAP. Mahalo~!

Loved loved loved Side Street Inn! I am from the mainland and wantaed to take some friends of mine that were locals out. Our group had never been to Side Street and we ordered family style - garlic shrimp, korean beef, noodles, chinese chicken salad, and fried rice...everything was delicious and we had plenty to eat plus leftovers! Definitely order the garlic shrimp...it was SO good! The food is excellent quality and the price is super reasonable! the place is a little hard to find in a regular office building, but the inside is like a regular family style place. We also ordered two of the desserts and they were fantastic.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was good, especially
Food was good, especially the fried rice which was better than any Chinese restaurant's. The portions were very generous too. The only negative was that the server forgot to bring us our salad that we ordered but he took it off the bill since we didn't want it after all the other food was brought out.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Awesome! Highly recommended
I was told about this place by a client. It is a hidden gem for locals. Huge quantities of freshly cooked pork, chicken and fish specialties along with large orders of the best fried rice on the planet and other sides & salads. A must for large groups & families because each dish is meant to be shared & would easily serve four people. I was there alone & gave half of my rice to some friendly folks sitting next to me. I love this place and will be back every time I visit Honolulu. AWESOME food, service & experience!!!
8/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good for Japanese.
Everything on the menu looks delicious. It is hard to choose !
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good friends and food
Great comfort good, martini's were on the weaker side. Service was good, we'll be back.

No Surprises - Everything was great
From the reservations, to the service, and food, everything was just great. A family favorite and great place to celebrate Grandpa's birthday.

One of my favorite places
One of my favorite places to eat!!! Was surprised to arrive & told I could not b seated until other two in party arrive. One of your employees who seats people (wish I had gotten her name) was VERY kind to me & explained why you decided to make this rule. The check in person just told me to sit until rest arrived but this woman apologized & explained. I really appreciated her kindness. I usually try to eat @ SSI early as I know you are very busy, which is great!!! I like to arrive about 10 minutes early & order a glass of wine prior to the arrival of party. Also, your waiters/waitresses are ALL very friendly and kind. Good job training them & hiring choices.
Thank you!! Please thank that woman if you can figure out who she is.. Mahalo

Brought some out of town friends for dinner. Service was friendly and unrushed, food enjoyable. Large family style servings. Usually have the pork chops and fried rice, but went for the sizzling kalbi on the bone and yakisoba. It was delicious.
9/10/2013 5:00:00 PM
What a great dinner with our friend
We visited there table for 7 at the dinner time.
Their Service and food were also impressing to us.
If we have a chance to visit there again, we just want to try another specialty.
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great local place. Good food. Large portion. Decent prices.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
longtime sidestreet patron of the old stay, but same food at the kapahulu site is 2times better...pork chops little thicker a d way more juicy, kalbi bone in way thicker and better, ahi belly huge, fried chicken (reg no sauce) off da hook
...wait staff way more pleasent and attentive
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good local food
It's just good food, great service, fair prices, good times.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is so ono/delicious! If you haven't been there, you have to put it at the top of your to-do list.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
swordfish poke, woo-hoo!
It's all about the food (and we like funky). If value is quality divided by cost, Side Street was easily the best value in Honolulu for us. If you throw in portion size, even more so. Swordfish poke an unusual and excellent find. Only downside would be not much for vegetarians.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Colin's good is the key. Spectacular!! That's what makes this spot so popular. No good food - no audience, regardless of location or service. FOOD is most impt and it is incredible.
Concern about parking. My friend's car got towed away, being only 10 minutes over the limit. We should be notified of the gestapo tow trucks out there just waiting to TOW!
Otherwise, we are always faithful to Mel and Colin.
10/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Was told about about food and everything I heard was true. Didn't know they served food family style until I read the menu. Waitress was very helpful in restraining me from ordering too much. She kept saying their serving sizes were large. We wanted to order an appetizer, two entrees and a salad; ended up ordering two entrees and had a big container to take home. Tasty food, great value, friendly staff.

No ka oi
Upon arrival we were taken immediately despite the huge crowd at the door. Awesome food as usual and first rate service from Kyle. A family favorite, it was the perfect place to celebrate mom's birthday and yet family friendly for our 4 year old. Outstanding experience, food, drink and service...can't ask for more!!

The place where Hawaiian chefs eat
A staple in many Hawaiian chefs diets, we were overwhelmingly thrilled by the gourmet bar food that us served in massive proportions at low prices. I highly recommend the pork fried rice and the peanut butter dessert. I will definitely rerun on my next trip to Honolulu.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
good food. good portions.
Went there with my grandma for her birthday. Had the fried chicken, sizzling boneless kalbi, and nalo salad. Peanut crunch for dessert. Everything was good. Make sure you take advantage of the online reservations. Otherwise, the wait can be quite long.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
We'll be baaacckkk !!
loved our meal. we had a party of 7 and everyone enjoyed the food. we shared the oxtail soup, the pork chops, kalbi, fried rice, mochiko chicken and the butter salad topped with taro chips. we were all stuffed and still had leftovers. definitely a place to return to.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
This has become our go to restaurant whenever we have mainland visitors. We have never been disappointed with the food or service. Ordering family style is recommended since the portions are large...we have yet had room for dessert! Our favorite dishes are the lilikoi BBQ baby back ribs, signature fried rice, & steamed fresh catch of the day with lup cheong. We never go without making reservations & have never had to wait for our table.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
