I've always liked this restaurant, but haven't been for awhile. We had a lovely dinner there this weekend. Highlights: charming back room, unhurried service, solid wine list, and of course delicious food.

Dining at Convivium Osteria was a delight. Seated on the lower level in the wine cellar was a treat. The menu was sophisticated and well prepared from the appetizers to the main course. The selection of wine was impressive and fairly priced. Our friends who are sort of food critics loved the dining experience. This made me happy that I met and exceeded their expectations. We will be back.

Truly delicious food, thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The staff is knowledgeable, very helpful, and very polite.
What a great place!

Convivium's sterling rep shines
Beautifully presented entrees and appetizers that were as delicious as they looked. Splendid wine list. Perfect espresso. Cozy and romantic. My guest ate every shred. Loved the food. Very attentive service. We had a great meal. In a word -- superb.

A little quiet but lovely
Excellent food in a slightly subdued setting. Feels like a perfect place to let mom and dad take you to dinner when they are visiting if Mom and Dad hate noisy restaurants and can afford it. I went with two girlfriends on a Saturday night and it felt a little dull. The food was excellent --we tried three incredible pastas--and the service was respectful and appropriate. But you don't feel like you are in the thick of things like you do at Al di La (also on 5th Avenue in Brooklyn, with some menu overlap). On the plus side, it is not as crazy as Al di La can be with its long waits--Convivum takes reservations.

Went there before a concert
Great Place to dine before an event at the Barcaly Center! About 2 blocks away and great food!

Went to Convivium Osteria for the first time for a small graduation celebration. It was a good choice. The menu had good selections, the waiters were professional and friendly, the food was delicious, and we were never rushed.
We were a group of 7 so the restaurant added the tip in automatically. The waiter, to his credit made sure to point this out to us when he brought me the bill.
Three minor issues
1. $7 bottle of beer - a little high;
2. No regular coffee - only espresso
3. I always like a good cup of tea to end my meal. There was a good selection of Twinnings teas, but the cup was pretty small, so once the tea bag came out you had only enough tea for a few sips.

the Best of Mediterranean Cuisine
We love Convivium Osteria! We are huge fans of Portuguese and Brazilian food. Convivium Osteria brings a fine representation of both to the varied and delightful menu The wine list is great as well.

Great for dining before a concert at Barclays. Food was amazing!!!!

Good Choice for Out-of-Town Friends
It was a bonafide dining experience - my ravioli would probably have been better as an appetizer than as an entree, and the baby octupus salad and the salad with grilled eggplant were very good. My only criticism was the bread, which was pedestrian, not even warmed, and there were neither butter or olive oil with spices provided - when I asked for olive oil, I was simply brought the bottle.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
This place was perfect. I just wish they had the ac on in the back and make sure to use bug spray if you intend to sit in the back during mosquito season. Next time I want to try the rack of lamb. I had the swordfish--it was good. This place is rustic for sure. Its just so peaceful, you forget you're in Brooklyn.

I took my girlfriend here
I took my girlfriend here on Saturday night for her birthday. We both loved the place. From the outside the place appeared to be a furniture store with lamps in the window. However, the inside was simply beautiful. The setting downstairs is very quiet and romantic. The food was on the same level as the ambience - amazing. Try the apple cinamon ravioli with the duck and thank me later!

Romantic and Delicious
A few key points:
Every food item was delicious, interesting, perfectly cooked and presented. Our waiter was pleasant, attentive, recommended great wine and fabulous entrees.

North SlopePortugese Italian Fusion
The inside of Convivium Osteria is decorated in a rough hewn countryside osteria. Casual food is impeccably prepared. Fresh pastas and seafood dominant the menu, but there is also a large t-bone for two served on a plank. The wine list is extensive covering a wide range of price points and palates.
7/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Don't let the facade turn you off - looks like a store front but the food that is served makes the look unimportant.
We ordered four appetizers, the grilled octopus with fava beans was the favorite but we also loved the sardines!
I would highly recommend the Gnudi as a main dish. These were served in a ricotta sauce that was so delicious
It made your mouth sing. The rabbit dish my husband had was not as good, a little dry.
Can't wait to return to try other dishes.
If you go to the Barkley Center this is the place for you, it is within walking distance.

Try the gnudi
Just when you thought you had seen it all in Italian restaraunts, comes Gnudi. Low carb version of gnocchi - delicious and lovely.

This restaurant has great food, great service and a terrific setting. Unfortunately it can all be very hard to enjoy because of the noise level. A romantic dinner in the pseudo wine cellar just isn't the same if you're shouting endearments across the table because you can hear every word spoken by the people around you, all of whom are also being forced to yell.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
food very good but intimate
food very good but intimate space makes noise level high

Food was fabulous!
We had a great meal and it's just 2 blocks from the Barclay's Center. The Spinach Ricotta Gnudi was divine. Worth the trip to Brooklyn!

Food was great! Meal was very
Food was great! Meal was very relaxed. The nicest part was that we were not rushed in any way and were allowed to enjoy our time there. Our reservation was for 8 and we didn't leave until midnight. My only complaint was after having had a bottle of wine at dinner and then desert, we then chose to have an additional glass of wine which we bought by the glass. The wine they chose to give us by the glass must have been one of their premium selections because I thought that the cost was extreme and they should have mentioned (although I did not ask either). It was a little bit of a surprise when i got the check.

Excellent Italian/Portugese cuisine at the edge of Park Slope, maybe two blocks from the Barclay Center. Charming little space (with a nice garden), friendly service, wonderful kitchen.
8/10/2013 5:00:00 PM
It was great!
We had a romantic dinner for two on the back patio. We loved the rustically elegant ambience and the food was terrific. Octopus, quail, ravoli, and rack of lamb were all perfect. We will definitely be back.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is an excellent restaurant. The food is very special - Mediterranean with a lot of nice touches - and the wine list is great. It's on the pricier side but well worth it.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Lovely spot and a great waiter.
Lovely spot and a great waiter. Being cash or Amex only was a bit strange and threw me off. Had to run off and get cash. Otherwise a lovely experience
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Feels and tastes like italy
Step into this gem an let your mouth waterfront the homemade pasta. I took clients there and we each ordered our own type of pasta. I are every bite of pasta in my bowl. Nobody was disappointed! I can say enough as somebody coming from out of town.
8/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
delightful and delectable!
This has been, by far, one of my favorite neighborhood dining experiences! While it's not cheap, it's worth every penny and perfect for special occasions. The staff take extra care to make sure your needs are met. And every year they have made sure to have my favorite fig cake made for my birthday!
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Must go again!
Convivium met our every expectation! The food, service, ambience were all perfect. Not too pricey, and worth every dollar. We can't wait to go again!
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Overall this place definitely worth trying. Although their menu is not huge, the dishes on the menu are pretty good. I've had the apple cinnamon ravioli with duck ragu and it was definitely better than I thought it would be. I wouldn't mind going back for a second round.
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
We always have a very special
We always have a very special dinner night out when we visit Convivium.

Delicious and Creative Food
We loved our meal. The pasta dishes were particularly delicious and creative (I had apple cinnamon ravioli with duck ragu -- it was wonderful). Pretty and romantic setting. We were seated at one end of a long table, which gave us a lot of privacy for quiet conversation and a romantic dinner. We will definitely return.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love this place
Annual birthday treat for the wife, and they never, ever disappoint.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Not only are you 2 blocks from Barclay but this restaurant has such a great back room!
We will be back just for dinner.

meal before Barclays
We had a wonderful meal before an 8pm show at Barclays. The food and service were just perfect!

Great and romantic spot
I've been to this place couple of times and let me tell you its an amazing, delicious and absolutely romantic restaurant ever in Brooklyn!!! My favorite grilled baby octopus and a plato with cheeses and cold delicious cuts. The rib eye steak is OMG; i and my boyfriend would die for it lol. Overall its a great place to enjoy food and have a great and quiet atmosphere with your loved ones and friends!!! Highly recommend this hot spot !

Great place to be!
The week before our Anniversary we were planning on going out to celebrate. We googled "Lamb chops" in Brooklyn. Convivum Osteria came up and we read the reviews. It seemed like a nice romantic place to have our dinner. We were very happy with the choice we made. The room is adorable, dark, cozy and romantic. The service was great and the food was delicious! We tried the artichoke appetizer, delish! The arugula salad was also delish. The best part was the lamb chops, we really enjoyed them. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves a nice quiet night out with their spouse! Definitely going back.

Great space, great food!
A truly great experience, from the welcoming and friendly staff to the intimate burnished setting, through a superb meal. Wine list is superb, filled with Italian rare gems - and super reasonable, as well. Love this place.

A Diamond in the roughy
Food was excellent in this Brooklyn neighborhood. I especially loves the downstairs. Very cool and a great place to impress guests. Total experience. Excellent all around with tremendous wine list as well. Highly reccomend it.

A Special Day Made Even Better!!!
Convivium Osteria made my birthday experience memorable. With Latin roots, I truly appreciated the wonderful tastes connected to the food. I felt like I was home with mom, and nobody cooks better than mom. This venture was a close second, and I look forward to returning again!!!

Hidden Gem of Park Slope, Brooklyn
This restaurant is a "Hidden Gem". European rustic decor with old winery feel. The service is beyond what is normally expected. The appetizers' and entrees' are prepared and cooked to perfection. The ribeye steak ("Chuleton") is definitely the best I've ever tasted. Feel free to ask about wine recommendations. They'll give you what's believed best for your meal and allow you to taste it before you approve. Worth every penny!

My absolute Brooklyn favorite
I can't say enough about this restaurant. The food is simple, fresh and creative without being a bit fussy (the steak for two in particular is to die for.) The wine list is spectacular and affordable, the service is always warm and friendly. It's the kind of place you settle into and never want to leave. Just fantastic.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Charming rooms, relaxed but excellent service and wonderfully inventive food. You'll want to go back.

Came here with my GF to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. Food was delicious and the restaurant was perfect. Very romantic and intimate. Cant wait to come here again. Sit downstairs if you can!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Had a beautiful birthday/anniversary dinner! The food was spectacular, the service was wonderful and the ambiance made us feel like we were in Europe - couldn't believe this gem was hidden in Brooklyn! Can't wait to come back!
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is the second time I have eaten at Convivium Osteria and it was better the second time around. Everything was delicious. My dinner, the ravioli made with apples and cinnamon, was unanimously named by our party, the best dish! You'll be seeing me there soon.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Once again, exceeds expectations!
We had a great time with our in-laws, and they were very impressed with everything - the service, the food, the decor. I'm really glad we waited a little to get a table in the cellar. Definitely will be back.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
My husband and I came here for my birthday. It was lovely - we sat at an intimate table in the wine cellar. Menu very unique with some specials and different options. We had the artichoke and the quail for appetizer - both delicious, fresh, and light. Then we had the lamb chops and tagliatelle. Both dishes were good portions - not over powering - and done just right. For dessert the panacotta with blueberries was light and delicious. We weren't rushed, and the price is definitely well worth the quality. Would return for another special occasion.

Cool, Eccentric, and Tasty
We had dinner early on Saturday evening and sat downstairs. The upstairs was crowded and hopping while the downstairs was quiet and dark. As the downstairs is both restaurant seating and a wine cellar, the restaurant was cool in two ways. We were seated at one end of a table with eight chairs and another party of two was at the other end. It was unusual, but not uncomfortable. The apple ravioli with duck ragu was incredible, and the other food we ordered was also excellent.

Italy at its best
First time there can't wait to go back. Best octopus salad ever. Lamb was perfect.
