Sotto is the best restaurant in LA, hands down. From the vegan cauliflower soup with spicy red peppers to the creamy burrata served with crusty, perfectly toasted rustic bread to the perfection of the pizza dough, every dish is outstanding. The space is also perfect, just like a hole in the wall in southern Italy.

An excellent Italian meal
I went for my birthday with a few friends, and the meal was fantastic. The cocktails were both tasty and inventive, and the wine was excellent. The dishes were superb, with the centerpiece being a pork porterhouse that really was worth every penny. The dishes spoke to my Sicilian friend and to every one else at the table. From the buratta and bread that started the meal to the deserts we had to finish (which included a cheesecake that was splendid), not a missed note. A great dinner.

Food is Excellent
Must try the Pork Chop - Amazing - and I don't even like pork.

We went with another couple and had a great experience in all ways. The food was all delicious, well crafted and creative! The menu had nice variety but was not overwhelming. We had a few small plates, a pasta, two pizzas and a couple of desserts and shared everything. Nothing disappointed. The portions were perfect to share and we enjoyed trying many dishes. Our waiter was super helpful, recommended several great wines by the glass and the pacing of the service was perfect. We enjoyed the feel of the space and energetic buzz, but the noise level did not overwhelm our conversation. Definitely will go back by ourselves, with our kids and other friends. Thrilled to add Sotto to our list of restaurants we love!!

Fabulous in every way!!
Exceeded my expectations. Wished I lived in LA so I could be a regular.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Southern Italian at it's best!
What a happening place with a superb menu to boot! The waiter, young though he be, was a great guide and steered us in the right direction. Food was truly unique. Wine superb. Noise level was a bit annoying at times (would probably request the small, enclosed patio area next time). But everyone seemed to having such a great time that it was hard to stay annoyed for too long. We will definitely return!

Great food, Expensive wine
The food is truly outstanding. So is the wine list. Unfortunately, there is no glass of red wine under $13. On the night we were day they ran out of Peroni (the only beer they carry). How is that even possible? It only left us with the option of ordering expensive wine. On the other hand, the ASAP Ricky cocktail was out of this world, and the spicy clams, the best I have ever had.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
we will be back
Nice quiet cozy restaurant, with delicious food. The appetizers and the deserts are especially good, I felt like my Sicilian relatives would approve. Excellent service, yummy wines.

LOVE this place. Delicious.
Sotto is fantastic. Love love loved it. One of my new favorite places in LA.
Started with the house bread + lardo. Oh my Lord. It's one of the best things I've ever eaten. Order it! We also had pork meatballs as a small plate. They were outstanding. Just like momma used to make.
We also had spaghetti w/octopus ragu and the pork belly entree (served sunday nights only). Both were fantastic.
We will definitely be back.
7/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food, but loud and dark.
Enjoyed the food, but so dark you can't see the menu, and so loud, you have to shout across a table for 4.

Tasty/original pizzas and dishes
I always love Sotto and they don't disappoint. Their portions are generous for this style of eatery and the pizzas are really very different. We had the half chicken w/ farro and kale as well as the clams, which were so perfectly prepared. The tomatoes really bring a tangy tartness to the dish. Definitely putting Sotto at one of my favorite places to eat in LA.

Tucked away gem
The Pasta was outstanding, flavors I have never tasted before. Service was excellent, host was very friendly on arrival, even though my friends were 15min late, he seated us immediately.
Their pizza was ok, but still great. They have a lot of choices, and next time i would order pasta and more small plates.
Definitely would go back!

Top Notch Cutting Edge Italian Gem
Sotto is a fine example of Los Angeles's dynamic, cutting edge food scene. This is no plain Italian joint. Each dish is well thought out, creatively composed and perfectly executed. The servers are knowledgable and engaged, and delighted to make recommendations based on the likes of your table. Our group of four dined "family style," so all of us we were able to try several dishes, selected from each of the menu categories. The wine list is creative and well priced, although bankers wanting the usual suspects will be disappointed. The Sotto list shows a love for the many wonderful wines and wine regions in Italy that have long been beloved by aficionados but overlooked by the big name critics. This is a top spot and one we will visit again.

Eclectic & delicious
The cauliflower and almond soup was superb! It was original and didn't taste like any of its constituent parts (though I like them all); instead, it came together to make a unique blend well worth the trip to the restaurant. The service was impeccable. The mackerel I had was excellent and unusual. My co-guests found their fish a bit too salty. The ambiance was friendly and relaxed, but I did not like the music which had a noisy bass & drum rhythm section that was too loud and only made the restaurant noisier than it needed to be. Once there's enough conversation going to give a nice feel to a restaurant, they should turn the music down, so we can hear each other in conversation. In spite of that, I would happily return for the food.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love Sotto. Food is wonderful, unique and well balanced.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Service and Food are outstanding
Service and Food are outstanding - authentic Italian - The Pizza is a MUST as is the buffalo Mozzarella and bread, the Chicken Palliard is juicy and delicious. Everything on the menu is a culinary delight.
One note: the kitchen needs a door or screen, something to cut the noise into the dining area - especially those tables closest to the kitchen opening. If you are facing the kitchen you get a direct view of the dish area (not pleasant)
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
My companion and I had a wonderful lunch; the food was delicious, just what we expected. We will definitely be back.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was my 2nd visit in less than 8 days because these folks are KILLING it on every front: food, drinks, service & vibe. The king trumpet mushrooms, the mackerel, the firtatta, the pizzas... holy hell, the pizzas. Then there are the house cocktails (especially the La Camorra)--all of which appear to be bitters-centric, which I LOVE--and the thoughtfully chosen wines. And if that weren't enough, the service is absolute perfection... beautiful pacing, perfect amount of attention from servers, runners who all seem to be enjoying themselves. It all just smacks of a place that truly cares about their product, their staff and their customers. Which makes Sotto a rare and beautiful gem in the LA food scene.

Great Southern Italian Cuisine
Had a lovely meal. The chefs are on their game, especially the pizzas, which were fantastic. We also enjoyed the beet salad and spicy clams (save some of the homemade bread to sop up the broth). The Italian wine list is quite good, and our servers were friendly and made us feel at home. All in all, a Southern Italian experience on Pico Blvd. We will return.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
This restaurant offers excellent
This restaurant offers excellent Southern Italian cuisine that draws us back again and again. A salad called "Little Gems" is worth the trip alone. The wines are always outstanding. We plan to return again, soon of course.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Just a solid dining choice
Just a solid dining choice on the Westside. Fantastic pastas and the porchetta sandwich at lunch is ridiculous.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Consistently very good
Continues to serve extremely flavorful food. Two big thumbs up .
9/20/2013 5:00:00 PM
Blistered, neapolitan-style pizza!
Very good knife and fork pizza with innovative toppings (I had ricotta, zucchini blossoms, and a yellow tomato sugo pizza).
Really good salads too. Fun ambiance.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food but mixed setting
We keep coming back for the food. The southern Italian focus is both refreshing and accurately executed. The menu always varied and the food always good. If something doesn't come out right the kitchen is happy to redo. The sommelier/partner is super knowledgeable and helpful and will always suggest and often offer special wines which are not even on the list. But the scene in the restaurant is more of a cocktail bar joint. Young loud and consuming large quantities of alcohol. Who am I to criticize Sotto? The bar scene clearly keeps the resto alive financially but the foodie in me doesn't get it. Early in the evening it is too loud but by the end of our late meal the restaurant was quiet. Just not sure what to make of it.

More good authentic Italian in LA!
Came here twice this year for special occasions: first was Valentine's Day, second was my wife's birthday. Neither time did it disappoint. Service is friendly and knowledgable about the menu. Food is amazing, reminded me of fantastic meals in Rome and along Amalfi coast.
9/30/2013 5:00:00 PM
Sotto is a great place, all
Sotto is a great place, all the dishes we had were delicious, made with good and fresh ingredients. The wine list is very interesting and the sommelier highly knowledegable and eager to help out. The service is top notch.
10/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
My new favorite Italian eatery
If you can imagine warm and thick grilled bread topped with a generous portion of Burrata cheese then you should try Sotto!
Also impressive is their Wooden Oven half chicken brick - Try it - words don't do it justice.
Do you like grilled calamari? You will once you tried the dish at Sotto.
Make a reservation because they are always busy.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is one of L.A's best specialized Italian restaurants. Food is authentic, fresh, market driven and the favors are excellent. My favorite place.
I have never had a bad meal. The Orata and chicken are the best. The Sommelier is the best in town. Always recommends the best wines. I have recommended Sotto to several friends and they love it. But the best compliment was my friend who was born and raised in Tuscany and said the food was genuine to Southern Italy.
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
The measure of a good pizza place is the quality of the most basic, the Margherita - and Sotto's is superb.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
interesting menu, excellent
interesting menu, excellent food, friendly service
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Decor and Pizza
Margherita pizza is great, also enjoyed the lamb pasta. Nice portion sizes that are great for sharing. Great decor and ambiance. I've only been at lunch but really like the vibe at lunch. Quick service and easy to get a table.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent each & every time.
We have eaten at Sotto at least a dozen times & it has never disappointed! We continue to return & are impressed not only with the food but also the amazing staff, especially Rachael.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sotto is local for us and my wife and I tend to bring our best and foodiest friends there. It never disappoints. This time... Omg... The clams in some sort of pork sauce were just stunning. The wines were amazing. Great waiter and sommelier. It's on the pricey side but it is worth every penny.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Energy and Great Food
Everything we ordered, from cocktails and wine to every plate of food, was fantastic! The grilled pork meatballs were some of the best I've ever had, the pastas were perfection, the pizza was nicely chewy flavorful and light, and the deserts were amazing. Our only complaint was that our server, while attentive, had a strangely aggressive energy.

Birthday dinner at Sotto
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday, so it was pretty important that it be nice. It was. The food was really interesting, with a range of selections and a really friendly sommelier (who was also the bartender) to help with wine choices. The people next to us were so friendly, they let me try some of their cake. I think our waitress was a little slow, but I don't hold it against the restaurant. Overall, it was a nice experience.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cannot believe how much we enjoyed dinner. We sat at the bar and had dinner and drinks. The pizza and especially the pasta is done very well here. Service was spot-on, friendly and knowledgeable. Cocktail list is the best I've seen in L.A. Only one small criticism: get a few decent beers. All they had was Peroni (or at least that was all we could see from our seats. There weren't any on the menu). Italy is making great craft beer, might make a nice addition to the beverage repertoire! We will most certainly be back!
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful service and great food!
Thank you for a lovely evening out for my friends birthday celebration! I raved about the house made bread and burrata cheese and it lived up to her expectations.s
The service was impecable and food delicious.
Will be back again!
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sotto makes the best pizza outside of the best in NY-NJ. Try it...
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Brilliant Italian food - among the best pizza in LA - a great little place
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
We received a gift certificate so we decided to go. Our reservation was early, 6:15 pm and it was already pretty packed. The wine list was amazing and the wine guy was really helpful. He offered to let us try whatever we wanted. We ordered the burrata, spicy ragu pasta and a margharita pizza. It was all delicious and the service was great. Really great place to eat with good atmosphere and service. We will be going back very soon.

Welcome to Campania
Excellent versions of Southern Italian pizza and pasta, plus a wonderful wine list from the bottom half of the boot.

Unique Full of Flavor Sicilian Food
It's refreshing to find a provocative menu with such confidence. Most everything is fresh, original and very authentically Sicilian or Souther Italian - Not your common, typical Italian menu. The flavors were all bursting with their very own original flavors. The service was warm, friendly and personable. Rory, the wine steward, was incredibly generous with his suggestions. Very fun Italian wines.
I want to became a warmly-welcomed-back regular at this place. An intimate, sure-to-please neighborhood spot.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
My friend Ronnie and I met up at Sotto after being apart 40 years! The staff was lovely & welcoming, wine excellent and food scrumptious as Italians like it!
Thanks for the wonderful evening. We will be back.
Peace & love,

Burrata Lover's Dream
The ambience at Sotto is inviting and cozy. We were seated right away and our server was very attentive (and knowledgeable about the food) throughout the evening, despite how busy the place got. The food was AMAZING. The smoky bread, the luscious burrata... unreal. We only wish we had big enough stomachs to have tried more than 4 small plates. The fava bean puree was one of the most delicately flavorful dishes I've had in a long time. The meatballs were tender and melted in your mouth. I saw a guy next to me order the biggest pork chop I have ever seen. To finish it off, another guest treated us with a glass of sambuca. What a fantastic night. I will definitely be going back to Sotto. It's my new favorite restaurant.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Nice place for a business
Nice place for a business or personal lunch. It was my third time and I recommend it. Casual and food is always good. Valet is 6.50 so try to find the meter parking but remember to keep filling it as I saw meter maids up and down pico!
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
Outstanding food and waiter (we had Rory and he was exceptional). This was our first time at Sotto and I would go back and back and back! Sotto is now one of my favorites.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
The unique combination of ingredients and delicate balance of flavors makes every dish a delight. With the advice of the sommelier your wine parings will enhance the experience even more.

Sotto Pre Lion King Dinner Event
We live in Irvine and surprised the kids with an evening in LA starting with dinner at Sotto and ending with The Lion King at the Pantages. Steve has done an amazing job of creating a transformational atmosphere and a menu that my wife said is to die for. With pasta and pizza (although far from ordinary) for the kids to chose from there were plenty of options to keep everyone happy. The boys said the cherries on the cherry cokes were "the best they've ever tasted". It is a small thing, but if Sotto takes time to make sure the cherries are amazing, you can just imagine what the rest of the menu must be like. We had a wonderful meal, some great artisanal drinks, a nice Sicilian wine and authentic Italian desserts. Perfect evening!
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Rustic bread with Burrata cheese, grilled pork meatballs over bitter greens, a sausage pizza, and a lamb ragu pasta, two great bottles of wine, what more can a couple of guys ask for? It was a great lunch with great service. Bravo!

Great food, great wine list
Great food, great wine list and excellent service. We always enjoy going to Sotto.
