Garçon was real good
Pre dinner cocktails were interesting and refreshing using liqueurs like chartreuse and St Germaine. For apps we he had octopuse and sweat breds. Entrees: duck confit and pork loin. Dessert: creme brûlée. All of the food was delicious, the pork was exceptional, so tender, cooked perfectly. Similarly, the creme brûlée was just right, the crisp top was not too thick and the creme was silky. The only complaint, and it is minor, is that the servers could have been more friendly. Overall it was a real good experience. I will go again.

Or 4-5th time there in a year.
Or 4-5th time there in a year. Everything is great , Very French. From the P.I.E. mussels , to the beet salad ,to the bone marrow.
Coq e'vin -great , fish-great . And the special Le' Bouf ( double cut Rib Eye ) out of this world .
Oh, my girl friend loves the bread. Dipping it into the mussel bowl the soup at the bottom. And the great sauce with the chicken.

We both had the pasta...which was cooked al dente and was delicious. The sauce, made from spinach and cheese, added a lovely flavor to the other vegetables in this dish.

Great French Bistro
Booked a reservation based on positive reviews and wasn't disappointed. Vibrant neighborhood, great service and food and wine were excellent! Especially enjoyed the duck pate, stuffed rabbit, pork tenderloin and duck confit. Kids thought that Angus burger was a bit dry and overdone. Overall an excellent experience and would definitely return.

The food and drink were, as
The food and drink were, as usual, excellent; however, for some reason there was a slip between our ordering and receipt of the food. The long lag between the first course and the entree might have been acceptable in other cultures, but in our American way we did not find a wait nearing an hour acceptable. We were, however, treated to complimentary dessert and wine. Will definitely go back. I'm sure this was a one-time lapse as we have not experienced it on prior occasions.

Great food in a warm cozy place
Garcon is our go to spot for great French food in the mission. The mussels are some of the best in the city. Service is great and they have a nice selection of wine.

Friends Loved It!
We treated our friends to dinner at Garcon. This was their first visit to the restaurant. They were blown away and quickly elevated Garcon to their top 5 restaurants in the city. They will definitely be back, as will we!

Enjoyed my 1st visit
Great special occasion place... the fish was very good, portion appropriate, inviting surroundings. Starters a bit pricey but delicious.

Excellent food, excellent service. Feel like you are in France

All-around great experience
I had the sweetbreads appetizer, hanger steak (rare) and cauliflower. Sweetbreads were very good (but I've had better); steak and vegetable were outstanding. I dined alone in the back room, which was very quiet. Passing through the main room (which includes the bar), tables appeared uncomfortably close. Service was outstanding but not bothersome, with several staff checking with me, including the chef. I will return and I recommend Garcon highly!

Made reservations at Garcon on a whim for Friday night with company from out of town. Wow they knocked the ball out of the park. First we were greeted and taken care of by very attentive hosts. The cocktail I started with was awesome (I recommend trying the Black and Basil) and set the tone for the rest of the evening. I sampled three different appetizers (all were wonderful), our table had three different dishes among us and all had rave reviews and then to top it off a wonderful desert. We will certainly come here again.

A great restaurant in the Mission!
The cocktails and food are amazing at Garçon! We had a long leisurely dinner and no one was trying to rush us along. The staff and service are wonderful!

Get your France on
If you like an exquisite interpretation of great French classics, this is the place. Everything is delicious. Normally my friends and I rank our favorites but at Garçon there was no rankings simply four stars for every dish. Started with a lovely rose champ
Pagne followed by a lighter burgundy. sweetbreads were yummy as was every dish we had. If you can make sweetbreads well then you can make anything at that level. Lovely bustling ambience with knowledgeable French waiters. The chef came out to talk with us as we were finishing our meals. Young and very talented.

Another great dinner
Garcon is just a great place for dinner. Service, food and the ambiance are great and keeps us coming back! HIGHLY recommend.

We love Garcon, fantastic
We love Garcon, fantastic food and service. Far beyond the usual bistro fare: way better than Frances!!!
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent foood, chaotic service
My first quibble is with the hostess. She rarely cracks a smile and just stares at you when you walk in. After an awkward moment or two, she gives a bored, deer in the headlights look and say "Yes?". Sometimes the waiters forget orders, but they are very warm and friendly so not too big of a deal. I love the food. It's honest, well-priced and delicious.

A Perfect Bistro
Excellent service - professional, friendly, attentive yet unobtrusive and very good food. The veal sweetbreads starter is luscious in texture and complex in flavor. My hubby loved his duck confit so much he forgot to give me a bite. Highly recommend the brussel sprouts. YUMMY! The sprouts are shaved and sauteed with pancetta and onions but this dish delivers so much more than the simple description would lead one to expect. There was, unfortunately, one disappointment - the mussels. Whether the "off" taste originated with a few of the mussels themselves or the combination of lavender & fennel, they were the only weakness in an otherwise wonderful dinner. We will return.

solid dependable delicious
i love this place because it never disappoints. the food is always fabulous. the ambiance seems to vary by date and hour-some nights it can be romantic and sometimes not (the corner table in the back room on a quiet evening= romantic/same table more energetic evening=at least you can hear each other).. the service is friendly french-so friendly and nice, but with a teeny bit of aloof french superiority.

Perfect duck pate. Delicious
Perfect duck pate. Delicious mussels. A silky Chablis. Pleasant, knowledgeable wait staff. A stellar Tuesday eve.

We meant to go to Garcon during restaurant week back in January, but our reservation was for the night after the 49ers NFC Championship game, and we were in no condition for a nice dinner, so we had to cancel. Seven months later... it was SO worth it. The rabbit and biscuit appetizer was glorious (seriously, the rest of the food was good, but this was the best). She got the steak frites, I got the duck confit, both were very good. We shared the sauteed brussel sprouts (although without pancetta). Finally, we got a bottle of Costieres De Nimes, Château D’Or Et De Gueules, ‘’Tressegum," which the waiter complimented when we chose it. Good service, and we just beat the rush of people to come in at 6 p.m. on a Saturday night.

Another great French restaurant find in the city. Tight fit with tables and mod noise level, but great food!

We were going to see Wet The Hippo, LA's Comedy Group touring NorCal and wanted a restaurant close to the theater. We loved Garcon! It was a lovely French Bistro, not too fussy but fab food, yummy drinks (Lemon Drop was excellent!). The French Onion Soup, Coq Au Vin, Hanger Steak were delicious. I will definitely return!

One of the best meals of my life!
Went to check out this gem recently on a Wednesday night. My friends and I were talking about this dinner for hours afterwards. Every dish we tasted was a real experience. All the food worked on multiple levels, so every bite was new and interesting. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy some truly mind-blowing French food. Thank you so much to the restaurant and staff and genius Executive Chef Arthur Wall-- we had an amazing time!

Great French Find
With excellent French food (the bone marrow is killer), lovely wines, a full bar, friendly and helpful staff, and a nice atmosphere in a vibrant neighborhood, this spot is worth returning to again and again.

Great food, excellent service, knowledgeable staff all in the heart of the Mission District. Went here for the first time, and you can rest assured, we'll be back. It left a fantastic impression and we intend to share our impression of the restaurants with other friends of ours.

Reliably great food.
I love this place. They do not stretch their menu beyond their means and deliver great French classics.

Great Food Long Wait
We had a reservation, and admittedly ran 15 minutes late. We called ahead to check if that would cause a problem, and received a green light. However, after arriving we waited an additional 45 minutes to be seated.
9/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent -- as always
We thoroughly enjoyed the food, the wine, the service.
Their wine list changes often and they have some gems. Ask Charles for advice on wine. He is AMAZING!

A French Gem in the Mission
Over the past 18 months we have dined at Garcon four times, and each time is better than the one before. A combination of traditional bistro favorites and changing specials make the menu a delight simply to review, the kitchen never fails to please with careful preparation and presentation, the service is the perfect combination of helpful, friendly and efficient, the extensive wine list is knowledgeably selected, and the martinis perfect. Garcon's Valencia Street neighborhood is bursting with interesting shops; strolling around either before or after dinner people watching and browsing makes the whole experience that much better. A great find. Anxiously awaiting an excuse to go there again.

Great food, near The Marsh
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner for 4 before a show at The Marsh, located right across the street. All dishes were tasty and cooked to perfection and service was attentive but unobtrusive. Very French.
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is a wonderful French restaurant. I'm sorry we didn't discover this place earlier. Service was just right, food excellent. The sound level was very loud however. The only slight negative was the green cauliflower (AKA broccoli) was a bit too salty. The sweetbread appie was perhaps the best I ever had. My veggie fettucini was wonderful. We will be back!
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
a genuine bistro
Apart from the menu being in English, this was an authentic Paris Bistro. It may be hard to get a reservation at any time, but this is the result of being attractive. You cannot take your table until all your party are present. Personally I had no trouble parking. Their wine list is good. You need, as in France, to scan the walls carefully for specials before you start ordering from the menu. Noisy it certainly is. As in France.
Eating early might get round a number of problems.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
We Loved It
The food was terrific, and it was perfect for dinner before a show at the Marsh. The pacing was a tad slow, and we had to skip dessert, which was better for our waistlines than for our chocolate-cravings, but you can't win 'em all. Loved the onion soup and really loved the pork tenderloin. Highly recommended.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Garcon is one-of-a-kind....always good and with very attentive service. I live close by and have been a patron for several years now...and it's predictably excellent. Varying menu with the seasons, and with a very definite French influence (the owner is from southern France)...one of my very favorite restaurants in the amazing Mission District. Also the prices are great. I will keep returning!
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
some great french food
We had a wonderful appetizer, veal sweetbread and awesome mushrooms! Great pork ternderloin and chocolat fondant for dessert were all my faves. We were celebrating a work project completion and had fun with the wine list, had champagne, great red and dessert wine too...
I wasnt as into the fish main dish but the aforementioned food was top notch. I've been meaning to go to Garcon for awhile and it did not disappoint!
All around we had a great experience!
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
French cooking is still the best
15 minutes late was enough for them to have given away our table. We ate at a counter instead. Glad we did. Among the varied ethnic dining choices in the Mission, it is good to be reminded how the French, at the end of the day, just do it all better. Delicious dishes with classic taste blends, reasonably priced, good wines.

This was my 10th dinner at Garçon. I have sent many friends there..

Another Perfect Dinner
Yes, Garçon provided another perfect dining experience for us... truly authentic, fabulous French cuisine, attentive and personalized service that is an earmark of a great restaurant and an ambience that reminds us of our memorable trips to Paris. This restaurant is at the top of our list to recommend to our friends and guests. We have been looking for a restaurant to call as "ours" and this is it. Bon appetit!

Great find in Mission
Arthur rocks the taste sensations with fennel and lemongrass. Don't miss the mussels and chocolate fondant. Please open one in Nevada!

Garcon is a lively, warm restaurant with terrific food. Everything served to our party was delicious, and by a very knowledgable and helpful waiter. The restaurant was full, the tables are close together, and the vibe was great. There is a small room off the main room, and it is more quiet and works for people who might not hear so well.

Outstanding All Around
My partner and I went to Garcon for my birthday celebration and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. We had very doting service staff, superb food, and a wonderful atmosphere.
The duck liver pate and duck confit in particular were phenomenal. I would highly recommend Garcon to other French foodie diners.
