Great dinner! Appetizers and entrees were fresh and creatively paired. Especially enjoyed the octopus salad! Service prompt and friendly -

Great food deserves better service
Food here is excellent but wait staff is too busy hanging around the pretty hostess to bring it to you.

This is our favorite place for special occasions. I am so happy we found this place. Amazing food, great ambience and a truly wonderful dinning experience.
6/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Aside from my pork chop and having chance to sample a range of steak, to gnochi, carpaccio... All were delicious!!! I'm going back for sure

Great food and great use of space.
We really loved this place. Nice vibe, great use of space and design. Food was wonderful. Nice Italian wine list. Service was very prompt even with the Apple Developers confab going on in town. Excellent value for the $$$.

Title of review says it all--very well prepared dishes. Generous appetizers. Selection is a bit limited--but all dishes seem to be winners. Our party of four had five items--all great.
To consider--brick walls make it a noisy place.

Uneven service but great food
Uneven service, perhaps not enough servers plus a little unpolished (could not get server to understand I was not attempting to order a Syrah-Cab blend but simply describing a type of wine we like that he could possibly use for reference to suggest an similar Italian wine) but the food was excellent. Crisp salads, flavorful octopus, good al dente pasta and light as a cloud tiramisu. We are "foodies"and give Mint 54 the thumbs up.

Family of 5
We had a wonderful dinner at 54 Mint! Had an early reservation, 5:45pm, naturally quiet but became more busy quickly. We ate downstairs in the converted dining room surrounded by great music & creative decorating for an overall very comfortable space. The food was delicious, from specials to the regular menu, and the service was very good as well. The wine selection was great & the Italian soda was a hit with the family. NIce design in the bar upstairs bringing a fun atmosphere in the restaurant. We will definitely stop by on our next trip to San Francisco!

Our Friends Were Impressed
54 Mint was at its best on Friday night. We were treating some old friends--one of whom is a winemaker who brought a bottle of his wine. The manager took a friendly and gracious interest in him and his winery. All of us were made to fee special. And our meals were delicious.

A Trip to Rome
Want to feel like you are in a Roman trattoria? This restaurant never fails to take me to Rome with its splendid food. I've never been disappointed. In fact, I'm planning my next visit now. The ingredients are fresh, the cooking is exquisite. The waiters are personable, friendly, welcoming and very good. You cannot go wrong with this restaurant. Next time you want an authentic, yummy Italian dinner make sure you go to 54 Mint. -- the parking is easy, too.

Hard to Beat
Great Italian Food and the service couldn't have been better. Italian waiters and even the bus boys made you feel special.

Good for Lunch
Very good food and service. Nice area for outside service when the weather is good...about 5 days a year in San Francisco. The closet parking is a block away and may be full, so arrive early.

Continues to delight!
I have been coming here for years and it never failed to deliver excellence. It is great for business dinners and have been taking my special friends. We always have a great time. The food is very original Italian with a special touch. I warmly recommend this place off the beaten track.
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
My group of six has been meeting here for a few years for lunch. The service has always been very good and the food even more so.
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is authentic Italian that is inspired by Rome and Milan. I had the Potatoe Gnocci with Oxtail Ragu. It was very tender, the Gnocci melted on my tongue, and I was pleasantly surprised by the shredded oxtail ragu. My girlfriend had the alfredo with peas, and mushrooms. She said it was the 2nd best pasta she ever had(2nd to Allegria in Napa).

Panna Cotta is a must!
There were 4 of us- we all agreed that all the meals were delicious. We ordered 3 out of 4 deserts to share. All were outstanding, but the Panna Cotta was truly exceptional.

Brick and white freshness
Delicious! No pretense here. Love the decor of exposed
Brick and white variations. We ate upstairs which was much
Less dark than the lower level dining area. It felt fresh and summery.
We loved the clams and the risotto bignetts. Our waiter was friendly
And helpful. You would feel comfortable here in a jeans or
With a jacket. The portions are a perfect and we opted out of bread.
My husband had the house made linguine with mushrooms and
I ordered the meat appetizer and veggies --- perfect portions!

Excellent food, but timing off
I had the pasta special, my bf had the gnocchi and his mom had steak...the steak came out overdone, but they fixed that with no problem. My pasta was a bit cold while my bf's was steaming hot. But it was so tasty I didn't mind that much. Their strawberry tiramisu is phenomenal!

What I can't hear you!
We had a great meal from salad to dessert but the noise level was so high there were times I couldn't hear the person sitting across from me. It could have be the large table next to us, but it was so loud! I have not dined downstairs, maybe it is quieter there. I will go back and try again but will ask for a quieter spot.

Slice of Italy in SF
Just returned from vacation in Piemonte and 54 Mint took me back! Fresh simple ingredients, solid service in an interesting setting. Worth the trip to SF!

I usually dine at the Concord
I usually dine at the Concord location but I found this location just as charming. The staff is very attentive and the food is wonderful.

It is always a pleasure to dine here. Knowledgable staff, genuinely regional dishes, nice wine list. E sempre un piacere per noi. Grazie allo staff.

Favorite Work Spot
All my colleagues love that I took them here. It is our go to for lunch. The pastas are well crafted. I have never had a pasta that I didn't like here. I'm always completely satisfied every time!

54 Mint was a very nice spot for wine, dinner and a date. Highly recommend.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Surprising for several reasons - location, service, and food. That's the three main things we all look for, right?
I've been to the Westfield Mall @ Union Square several times. Yet, I have never noticed this restaurant which is only across the street. Granted, you have to walk into a little square to access it, but it's there, smiling, arms open ready to take you in.
The service was excellent. I don't know if it was because we were the first to arrive and be seated, being served by a fresh staff ready to go; but the server as well as those refilling our glasses, etc. were all on point, courteous, and energetic.
That leaves the food. We had the Suppli' (croquette), gnocchi, and special scallops. All delicious!

Quiet neighborhood spot
54 Mint is a quiet neighborhood spot in a busy part of town. The pasta dishes are amazing, and the atmosphere is really nice! I always have a great meal when I come here.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great authentic italian
I've been to Mint a few times now, and each time has been fun. Sit upstairs if you can, and order wine and appetizers. There's not a wide selection on the menu but there's a variety of options so you can have meat, pasta, etc. It's mostly locals there so enjoy a night out or lunch at mint if you are in the neighborhood.

Great for 1 on 1 lunch meetings.
Quiet tucked-away gem with outstanding service and delicious food. This is a great location for lunch meetings. The tables are well-spaced and the wood floors and good acoustics mean you won't have to shout even when the restaurant is full. Also great options for gluten-free diners.

Tucked Away SF Gem
I love the warm and cozy mountain lodge feel. The service was near impeccable. The bruschetta with burrata cheese and sea urchin was to die for. Pastas are homemade and excellent. Unusually excellent carbonara that you rarely find in other Italian eateries. I had the papparadelle was excellent. Lamb chops looked awesome. The downstairs dining is a tucked away lodge room, while a little warm, had all the characteristics of someone's private cellar kitchen. Will be going back!.

Outstanding pastas! Quiet location in an area that is not very special. Great for theater goers and shoppers. Reasonable prices and lots of great Italian wines. You will really be surprised by this place. Highly recommend.

Great lunch spot
Really liked having lunch here. Nice food, appropriate portions and reasonable prices.
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Don't go downstairs!
We had a fine meal in a very pleasant dining room -- but only after the hostess tried to coax us into sitting in a dark, humid downstairs that was about 90 degrees (on a perfectly pleasant day) with an electric fan droning away futilely. And we were there early when the place wasn't at all crowded. Maybe she thought we were rube tourists because we had a few shopping bags with us (even though my wife and I had lived in San Francisco for many years before she was born.)

Great lunch find near Mission Garag
Tucked away behind the old mint, this gem had
Perfect selection of luncheon choices. Arugula salad
Was excellent! Italian casual in a plaza with other restaurants
And street singers in the area. Nice to sit outside
And enjoy SF from a distance. Tried a new Italian beer.
Inside the bar and ambiance seemed excellent
With old mixed with new decor. Would like to check out in the evening.
Big downstairs available for private parties

We were on vacation in the San Francisco/ Napa/ Sonoma area and so had a week's worth of excellent restaurants. 54 Mint was by far the stand-out amongst the dozen restaurants we tried. The Prosciutto & Parmesan appetizer was so flavorful, every bite just burst, especially when paired with a Barbera. The Tonnarelli was absolutely the best pasta dish I have ever experienced. The simplicity of the recipe and the expert preparation let the quality of the ingredients shine through.

Perfect for Couples
Dinner consisted of a few appetizers to start. We decided on the beet salad and the parmesan and prosciutto board. Both were delicious, with the latter being my favorite. For dinner, my wife got the special which was a Colombian River Salmon. herb encrusted. Her side was a combination of greens and chick peas. My plate was the Prime Rib, accompanied with Arugula drizzled in lemon juice. Very yummy. For dessert we had the tiramisu which was amazing. It was like a cream cup with floating bids of delicious bread. Definitely recommend it.
This place is perfect for couples, especially for a special romantic evening. Give the cocktails a try. We were not disappointed.

Very fresh pasta
Gnocchi was outstanding! Incredible pillows of potato pasta.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was amazing...everything, the beef/proscuitto cutlets, the risotto croquettes, the oxtail and the spaghetti carbonara...AND THE TIRAMISU...probably some of the best tiramisu I've ever had...excellent wine as well. A simple menu with vibrant and rich flavors.
The upstairs is extremely noisy, if u can get a table for downstairs...do it...unless ur fine not talking or shouting at the ppl you're eating with.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a great dinner. We shared several "appetizers" and one entree (pasta) so it was a great to taste so many dishes. The only less than optimal was the pear tart. It seemed a little heavy or dry. But, everything else was just wonderful.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Tasty Italian in a lively space
We've been here before, but not recently. The food was very good and the special fettuccine with manila clams excellent. Also enjoyed by our table were the gnocchi and the pasta with pepper and Parmesan. Chocolate budino dessert was sinfully good! Very, very noisy due to bar crowd and hard to have a conversation.
10/28/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great, authentic Italian food
I'm always happy to come back to 54 Mint. The food is exactly what you would find in a good trattoria in Italy. Fresh, uncomplicated, delicious.

Delicious Meal, Lively Atmosphere
This is one of those places to keep on your Sure Bet list. An easy walk from downtown hotels, 54 Mint is in a quiet corner of the former US Mint building. Stone walls contribute to louder-than-usual environment; tables downstairs are slightly quieter. Small bar offers a peek into the kitchen; bartenders are friendly as well as talented. Pace of service is leisurely: the mission is relaxed fine dining rather than efficiency, ideal for supper with friends or celebratory dinner with colleagues. Wines by the glass list is well-chosen and well-priced. Menu highlights include meatballs and saltimbocca appetizers, and tonnarelli cacio e pepe entrée. Five simple ingredients - flour, water, salt, olive oil, pepper - one incredible dish.

Simple amicable interior. Good food. Good Services.
Authentic Italian Food, reasonably priced. Good portions.
I will definitely be back!

Great food using high quality ingredients! The service was also excellent.

Upstairs & downstairs
The upstairs restaurant area is very attractive but it is small and noisy. We chose downstairs because we were meeting friends & wanted to converse over a pre-theater dinner. The basement's decor is less than stellar but great for conversation. The service also might have suffered somewhat as we did not see our waiter for longer than what we would have liked. Nevertheless, he got us out easily for theater, and the food was very good. I'll return and try to see if the service upstairs was more attentive.
11/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
4th time and never disappointed
Atmosphere: Upstairs is noisy, but energetic. Downstairs is quiet, but feels subterranean. Depending on your needs request your spot. Food: We shared everything - a great way to taste. Staff is accommodating, offering to leave the bottarga off the burrata for my seafood averse friend. They brought side plates for sharing and even split the pasta at the table for us. Salad was perfectly dressed; saltimbocca was underwhelming – couldn’t distinguish the prosciutto; pappardelle fungi was perfect. Wine: mostly if not all Italian. Very good wines by the glass selection. Staff is knowledgeable. I'll go back again, and again.

Fabulous dinner specials
Two dinner specials---the swordfish entree and the appetizer pate'---were top-notch. In addition the service was perfect---attentive but not hovering. Delicious wine from Calabria.

Great little hidden gem!
Really nice ambiance, loved the wine list, felt very authentic Italian. Butternut squash was amazing!

I had the special fish which
I had the special fish which was swordfish. It was cooked perfectly. Awesome. My husband had a saltimbocca. Not so great. However, for dessert, the panna cotta with fennel pollen and olive oil was fabulous.
