We enjoyed our visit very
We enjoyed our visit very much. I asked our server for a recommendation. He suggested the oxtail dish. It was delicious! Excellent recommendation! It's so nice when servers know the menu.

Went for Restaurant week and
Went for Restaurant week and overall was impressed by the food. The scallops and oxtail were especially delicious, and I also tried the baby lamb chops which were great as well. The lamb chops come with a cauliflower mash that was tasty but a little thinner than I would have hoped. Finally I tried the meatballs, which I was not impressed by at all. They were a little on the bland side and a bit dry. Not nearly as good as the other tapas my friend and I had sampled that night. Service can be a little slow at times. The atmosphere was great. We were seated in the lounge area (two coffee tables with couches and comfy chairs around them) which had a nice feel to it, although I wish the tables were a bit higher for comfort.

We didn't know it was Restaurant
We didn't know it was Restaurant Week when we made the reservation, so the menu was more limited than would be usual. But even with the limited menu, there were many delicious options for vegetarians, options so delicious that meat eaters would not feel cheated. Service was great and knowledgeable and fun. We regret only that we live out of town and can't visit often.

This was our second visit,
This was our second visit, and we had an absolutely fantastic meal. The wine list is long, and we got a wonderful recommendation from our server for a special Spanish red wine, which we loved. We ordered about 9 tapas dishes for the 4 of us. Some of our favorites were the fried artichokes, grilled baby octopus, roasted chickpeas, skirt steak and of course parma ham.

Amazing mixed drinks
I am a wine drinker most of the time, but I heard from my friend that this place is great for cocktails. I must say that this is one of the best places to get mixed drinks in this city. The bartender/server whose name is Sahil makes amazing drinks. He really knows how to mix ingredients.
The food was pretty good, but I can't think of any particular dish that incites a rave.
I will definitely be back for drinks!

Everything we ordered was incredibly delicious, the ambiance is perfect for a good meal with conversation, the noise level lends itself to conversation and a pleasant experience. Out waiter, Brian was knowledgeable and cheerful and very helpful in helping our party pick the different dishes, including one not on the menu.

Great food and service, but loud!
Loved this restaurant and will return, but looking forward to eating outside as it is loud and a bit hard to carry on a conversation. We went after Friday night in SOWA and it is an easy walk.

Like Being in Madrid
Everything was outstanding. Great menu and wine list served by friendly knowledgable staff.

Love this place!
I come back for the brussels sprouts and garlic shrimp. And lamb chops. And definitely for the great cocktails. And the wine list. And the daily specials.

Great food and outstanding service!
The food at Estragon was, as expected, quite good. The small plates are big enough to share between 2-3 people. The muscles are highly recommended...they were clean and very large.
I always hope for good service at any restaurant but in this case the staff at Estragon far exceeded my expectations. A few simple examples of this was when my friend dropped his fork on the floor...the attentive hostess had a new one for him before he had even picked up the one he dropped; water glasses were never allowed to drop to less than half full; plates were cleared as soon as a dish was finished...and this was all done quickly and unobtrusively. I wish I could give more stars for service!

Love the cocktails ! Wait staff is always helpful in choosing dishes, service is prompt

Surprised by how yummy this was
The food was delicious and can definitely stand up against Toro. I highly recommend the arugula salad..any goat cheese item will be amazing!!

I need to go back to Estragon again
My friends and I went to Estragon for the first time and fell in love with it. The food is exceptional - and there was a healthy blend of meat an on-meat options, as Spanish food does. The wine list was also full of not-the-standard-list wines and I had one that I want to go back to try again. The best part about this tapas place is the ambiance can play both serious and casual. It'll be a good last-minute small eats with a drink or a full meal with friends.
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Dinner in Boston with two pre-teens can be interesting. Estragon delivered on all points. Having traveled in Spain I would say it is a very close approximation to what you will find in neighborhood tapas joints. Our server was top notch, the pace was perfect, we didn't feel rushed at all. They were fairly busy and we certainly could hear and have conversations. The jamon plates were just like being back in Barcelona. The wine list could use some more variety but we had an excellent Rioja. We would definitely eat here again.
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
An eclectic south end gem!
Estragon is a neighborhood gem, tucked deep in the south end. If you like tapas, they have an authentic selection with notable alternative choices! The Spanish tortilla is something to write home about and the drinks are creative and delicious. The ambiance is interesting and enjoyable. Service was exquisite with quality suggestions.
6/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
One of the best meals I have had in Boston, great menu. I have dined at most of the notable restaurants and have an informed opinion. The food was excellent in every way.

Creative, Sophisticated, Delicious
Spanish cuisine is having a burst of creative excellence generally, and Estragon is a prime example locally. Save the airfare, and try the tapas here in the South End. Each of our party of four very picky gourmands was delighted. Highlights for us included the cocktail The Moor's Last Sigh, roasted brussel sprouts, and crispy paprika chickpeas. The gazpacho was a delicately spiced delight. But the desserts will have us returning - perhaps tonight? I am not normally a bread pudding fan, but this creation with light whipped goat cheese and lavendar was to die for. The homemade ice creams were perfect on a humid summer night, and the flourless chocolate cake was agreed by all to be a serious contender for Best of Boston.
7/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
so many delicious tapas. Romantic setting, wish we got there in time to sit outside
7/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Off the beaten path
Estragon is a little off the beaten path, but is worth the trip, and is a more relaxing alternative to the hyperactivity of the Toro scene. A regular on our weekly dining rotation we like the variety of tasty treats available for the spectrum of diets in our group. Ask about the specials and don't be afraid to try something new to you. Some of my favorites include Tortilla Espanol, Garbanzos Fritos, Fried Artichokes, Braised Eggplant, Gambas al Ajillo, Salt Cod fritters, any of their Paellas, and sharing their trio of housemade ice creams is a great way to end a nice meal on a hot summer night. And our favorite waiter in Boston, Sahil, works there.
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Funky, fun atmosphere - OK food
Stepping into Estragon feels a bit like stepping into your artsy Spanish friend's apartment in La Latina neighborhood in Madrid. Warm hues, particularly red, and deep black accents set off the decor. Bookshelves lined with sundry bohemian titles define the space.
As for the food, the tortilla espanola was quite good, and the other dishes were decent approximations of Spanish standards with a little latin american influence to round out the menu. Great summer sangria too!

Great place for tapas
We found this recommended for tapas in Boston. It did not disappoint. It is off the beaten path and is definitely not a tourist stop. Local patrons. We greatly enjoyed the food and service. The waiter was patient with us and explained the menu offerings and offered suggestions. We would highly recommend if you are looking for good tapas in a setting that is not tourists.

The "other" South End Tapas place
A real find! The atmosphere was really cool! The food was great, and very authentic. The bartender Joseph was fabulous, friendly and helpful with make the important decisions of what to eat. Something on their menu for everyone!

Great Weeknight Tapas
On a Tuesday night in the summer, the restaurant was peaceful. (It can be unpleasantly loud on the weekends). The octopus was tender and flavorful. Duck confit was not oily but the Brussels sprouts were (though both were tasty). Flamenquines were an indulgence enjoyed by all. There seems to be much thought and care put into the dishes. The mixed drinks are fun and interesting. It was a beautiful evening to sit outside, but the service may be less attentive there. A great place to go with a group and taste many dishes.

A perfect local spot, interesting food, good bar, nice crowd. Reminds me of a good bar/restaurant in Madrid.

Secluded Tapas Place
After forgoing the 2 hour wait at Toro, decided to try out Estragon. It's a little out of the way and in a more remote part of town, but there was no wait and the restaurant was nicely decorated. The server was very helpful and patient. The tapas that we ordered were hit or miss, but overall, the food was pretty good.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food an service were great. Would recommend it for those looking to try some new and exciting Spanish dishes.

Dependably great meal
Estragon has become one of our "go-to" restaurants, and our most recent dinner reinforced that they've earned this status. We visited on a Friday night. We never pass up the chorizo, and it was stellar as always. Argula goat cheese and pomegranate salad was a nice way to balance out heavier dishes like the (excellent) fried artichoke hearts. Wine list is extensive and well-curated, with some great finds for under $40 for those looking to keep the tab reasonable.

best tapas in the South End
Authentic, delicious tapas and brilliant cocktails from one of the best and most charming bartenders in Boston, Sahil Mehta. Ample and well-curated wine list. Romantic but not overly so, and there are areas to fit groups as well as more dimly lit intimate tables for dates. Also, one can hear what the person across from her is saying, that is always nice.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very memorable dining experience
Visited Estragon during restaurant week for dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant week menu was very extensive offering plenty of options for all three courses. The service was excellent from the hostess to the waitress to the busing team. Even got a visit to our table from the chef who told us about his ingredient sources and some cooking methods. Definitely would recommend the oxtail.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
It was our first visit to Estragon and it didn't disappoint. The food was inventive and delicious. The flavors were complex and interesting. We appreciated the extensive selection of wines by the glass, sherries and excellent cocktails. The presentation was lovely. Very nice plates, flatware and glasses - an unexpected surprise. Our server was friendly and attentive. We felt well looked after. The only reason I do not give this restaurant a 5 is that the decor was lacking a certain something. A lot of thought had been put into it, but in the end we felt that the lighting needed to be warmer...and although the tv was very unobtrusive, and was showing classic movies, we would have preferred that it wasn't there at all.

Our group of 3 decided to
Our group of 3 decided to try Estragon during Restaurant Week and it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant is casual and eclectic with seating nooks and a roomy bar area. The food was fantastic. We were happy with everything we ordered but make sure you try the grilled artichokes and the lamb chops (our two favorites). The staff was great, never hovering but available. All of us agreed that Estragon is on our list of "worth a return visit"

Tapas that Lure a Diner Back
Every time I'm here I experience something new. This time there were Brussels sprouts that were superb and lamb prepared with spices and dates making it unforgettable. The Brussels sprouts were by far my favorite - cooked with chopped chorizo and blonde raisins - the dish had the right amount of spice with a hint of sweetness. What keeps me coming back, though, is the Tortilla Espanola. Potatoes baked with onions and a little egg - what could be better - and Estragon does it best! I keep returning for the Tortilla Espanola but I'm always surprised by something new. Work your way through the menu. You'll fall in love with it.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
I ate here on Tuesday night with three of my girlfriends (all of us Vegan). We had a blast sampling the little dishes. Our favorites were the Paella Vegetariana, the Patatas Bravas (Feisty Fried Potatoes), Potaje Andaluz (Sautéed Rainbow Chard, Butternut Squash, Chickpeas, Almonds, Golden Raisins), and Espinacas a la Catalana (Sautéed Spinach, Pine Nuts, Golden Raisins). Not even halfway through the meal, we had each discussed when we could return - either individually or as a group. We all loved how well the restaurant notes Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-Free items, but the food itself was divine and our waitress was friendly, polite, and knowledgeable.

Very good Tapas, a knowledgeable waiter, and service was good. We were there o a Wednesday so noise was okay, but I have been advised that is gets very loud on weekend nights

I took some out-of-town foodies there, and they loved it. Relaxed but energetic environment, great variety of foods, and the cocktails were superb. Our waiter struck the right balance, being helpful and anticipating our needs, without constantly interrupting us. He was also quite knowledgeable about the menu.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
We didn't know much about Estragon but read about it in Boston Magazine. We tried several meat and vegetarian tapas. Everything we ordered was delicious. The mixed drinks were fantastic! Delta Dawn even used my husband's favorite bourbon, Diabolique, which is hard to find.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were able to handle about six menu items, all of them well prepared and flavorful. Any more and I don't think I would have been able to walk. Dessert was absolutely delicious.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
On an unassuming block in the South End you'll find the best tapas in Boston. Estragon's food is marvelous and it lacks the pretentiousness of so many South End restaurants. Pulpo a la Gallego is tender grilled octopus in a spicy tomato vinaigrette. We soaked up every last bit of the sauce. The Sauteed Rosemary-Garlic Mushrooms and Crispy Fried Artichoke Hearts were also stand-outs. The artichokes were perfectly crisp without any tough leaves, served with a flavorful, light aioli. The seasoning for the mushrooms was deftly handled, the earthy mushrooms were enhanced , not overpowered. The mushrooms were nicely sautéed, so that they retained some firmness. Service was pleasant and professional. Estragon is truly worthy of return visits.

Spanish Style, intellectual space
My partner is originally from Barcelona; Estragon continues to be a front-runner favorite.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
The service was excellent
The service was excellent and the food well prepared, generous, and authentic.
Although casual, it made my son's 25th birthday celebration special.
We hope to return and try more dishes.
The only slight negative was finding the place and parking if you are not familiar with the area - not very convenient from a public transportation perspective.

I Just Love Estragon
Great food, great service, nice ambience, great prices... Estragon has it all. Plus the small plates aren't so small. My favorite way to start is with a dry gin martini and a bowl of their marinated olives and just sit and enjoy for a bit. Then I order the food. There's no pressure to "move it along," which I really appreciate. I never seem to make it to dessert because I'm stuffed. Estragon makes me want to move to the South End.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great Time at Estragon
Though we had a big group, the food was great! Best croquetas I have ever had. I recommend this for groups of people that are 4 or less. I went with 6 people and it was hard to deal with the serving sizes unless we ordered 2 of everything which could get pricey. However, it was still one good tapa restaurant. Not the best as there is stiff competition in the area, but definitely higher on my list.
