The Friendly Fabulous Fox
This was our first time at the Swamp Fox and we have discovered a gem of a restaurant in downtown Charleston. Great food, wonderful setting with views of Marion Square, and outstanding service. We already have sent emails to friends and family encouraging them to visit the Fox.

Convenient to Marion Square
This is an easy walk from the Visitor's Center. We had an early dinner here after completing a tour that left from the center. The chicken liver was very good.

Prime rib dinner at a great price
My review title says it all. It was a good solid meal for a great price. Would definitely recommend for a nice meal when you don't feel like getting too dressed up or paying a lot for your meal. Ambiance is a little lacking, but otherwise very nice.

Right in our own neighborhood!
You'd be amazed how many people who live in downtown Charleston never think to go to the Swamp Fox at the Francis Marion. We'd been years ago and had a dreadful waitress so didn't go back. I happened onto it as a great place for lunch because it is quiet and I don't hear well, so particularly appreciate that. Have now been there for dinner twice within a week and were very pleased both times. Staff is very accommodating. Prices are reasonable. Shrimp and grits martini appetizer is out of this world!
I had a Caesar salad with salmon (have had this several times)and the salmon was perfectly cooked. We'll definitely go back!

Lunch and Breakfast
My wife and I enjoyed your restaurant at both meals. Good variety and the dishes were very good. The staff was very friendly and seemed to enjoy their jobs.

Return trip and not disappointed
I have been to The Swamp Fox once before and had the shrimp and grits and haven't been able to get them out of my mind since. I was very happy to find that shrimp and grits were still phenomenal upon my return and that this time I got to share the "food experience" with my mother (whom I consider to be a tough critic regarding quality of grits). She LOVED the shrimp and grits along with the over all dining experience. Sadly not many people were there, which truly is a shame because I think this restaurant has a lot of charm and offers a quality dining experience. Will definitely be back the next time I am in Charleston!

Review of Swamp Fox
Pleasant atmosphere, prompt service, good food (had shrimp and grits) and reasonable cost. Will dine there again.

Stopped in for restaurant week and was thrilled to not only have a lovely and attentive server, but to experience a three course meal that was beyond delicious. The food was plated beautifully and was scrumptious. I thought I was in heaven with the torte dessert. I was very pleased with the whole experience!

Restaurant Week Gem!
Dined at the Swamp Fox on Wednesday night...the food was (almost) perfect, the service was completely impeccable, and the atmosphere was relaxed and upscale, a very comfortable combination. The shrimp and grits dish was simply outstanding - very fresh and flavorful. And the pecan pie was classic Southern goodness! The only flaw I perceived was in the she-crab soup. With only one tiny discernable piece of crabmeat in the entire cup, it seemed a bit lacking. Will I return? Yes, and soon! Don't miss a chance to eat at the Swamp Fox when you're in Charleston!

Food was great, but was too quiet
We had a party of 6. The food was great, everyone enjoyed their meals. However, when we moved to the bar after dinner our group was reprimanded for being too loud... I didn't feel that we were excessive, but six people talking probably seems raucous.

Good food and great service
We had the best steak that we have had at a restaurant in quite some time. My husband likes medium rare and I like medium Both of our steaks were done to perfection.

Especially good for pre-theatre
I like to take guests here before seeing plays at the College of Charleston and Pure Theatre. The she-crab soup and fried green tomatoes are always a hit and we love the restaurant's commitment to the local farmer's market. It's one of the few restaurants on King Street that is quiet enough for a nice conversation. Don't let the fact that it's a hotel restaurant turn you off; this is not the product of a chain, but a fine local dining venue in a great location with a nice view of Marion Square. The prices are reasonable, the service good and they also do a lovely brunch. Most recently we went wanting a light pre-theatre bite; there were plenty of lovely and imaginative small plates and salads to choose.
