Great atmosphere and food-
Great atmosphere and food- unique dishes. Drinks were delicious. I had the crab Benedict and the only bummer was that my poached eggs were over cooked:-(

Excellent and unique Japanese
Excellent and unique Japanese fusion cuisine with focus on seafood. Our server was attentive and explained in detail the various dishes to help in our selection. Unusual sake offered also. Outdoor patio for warm days and happy hour attracts a good crowd.

For two of us, having 2 small
For two of us, having 2 small plates and splitting a large one was perfect. We really enjoyed the sashimi.

Incredibly friendly service, with a great food selection to boot.

Felix the Bartender is the Best!
She makes amazing drinks and the food is absolutely fabulous! We come here for brunch everytime we're in SF.

Good for gluten free
Good adaptations for gluten free folks, who would only love to see a separate fryer for things not coated in flour...

great seafood, cool spot
Skool is my go-to place for great seafood - very fresh, and innovative preparation. We always order the mushroom fries (sometimes 2 orders for two) . One of us had the calamari 'small plate' which was a whole squid, beautifully poached and sliced. Delicious. I had the Crab bradade which was really tasty but a little light on crab. I had the salade nicoise - with two dressings - a kind-of ceaser for the greens and grains, and a ?watercress mint? for the seared tuna. Beautiful tuna, nicely seared. I asked for avocado instead of egg, and they eagerly complied. It can get noisy in here - but who cares. I think the atmosphere is way cool, and the space and light quality is gorgeous - & serious deck envy for the outside seating.

Delicious food with very intriguing
Delicious food with very intriguing flavor combinations. Great cocktails! The staff was very accommodating. Because we had to wait a little longer than expected for our table, they comped us and appetizer. That kind of attention is hard to come by these days!
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Varied menu. Delicious food. Had the Warm Crab Benedict. Fabulous. And the desserts were fantastic!

Great Lunch Spot
I had a business meeting here last Thursday and I was very impressed. Comforable, relaxed athmosphere with a good buzz. The burger was great.

Remarkable sea food inspired
Remarkable sea food inspired dishes. A New York guest went nutz for the place. The Japanese and California fusion here is delightful.
6/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
food was good but the food
food was good but the food was coming out really slow. don't know if that's becoming the trend here because the last time i was here for dinner, we waited an hour+ for our entree. the waitress was supposed to comp one of the entrees but never did.
6/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fresh take on fresh fish
Skool is a delicious addition to San Francisco's food scene. We were impressed with the Inventive dishes that were presented beautifully in a aesthetically pleasing environment. Our waitress was friendly and informative and the vibe of the place was inviting
to guests of all ages - from hipsters to oldsters. My compliments to the design team who met the challenge of creating an inviting spot in the midst of a desolate area at night.

Destination experience & adventure
An out of the way culinary sensation worth the trip.
Delicate sensory flavors and textures with friendly and attentive service.
Worth a trip to the city.

Very Good time at Skool
From the first encounter with the hostess through the last topping off of my water glass as I paid the bill, our meal at Skool was memorable for the right reasons. Great service, tasty and creative food in a fun and hip environment.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Innovative - really!
You hear the word "innovative" a lot when you read about restaurants, but rarely does the food have a really unique combination of flavors that work together to enhance the dish. Skool is innovative. We started with a grilled whole squid in a savory tomatillo sauce with chilis dried and sliced so thin that they looked like long saffron. Japanese in sensibility and it shows. No dish overwhelms with too many flavors piled on top of each other - restraint is as important is creativity in cooking. Pretty loud - you may want an outside table for an intimate conversation. Servers were great - they answered every (weird) question I had. Among the most completely satisfying meals I have had in a while. We won't wait long to be back.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
I hae only been here for lunch, but I return because I find it a wonderful place to eat. Very friendly, delicious food, outside is quiet...

Design district find!
Skool was great as far as atmosphere the patio was beautiful and serene. The food outstanding and the device and staff very pleasant. I look forward to my next visit.
I don't like noisy restraunts as I like to converse and this space was perfect for that!
Very hip as well!!!!
A great find in the design district off the beaten path!!
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, great experience! Highly recommended to all....
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
I'm only giving this a four
I'm only giving this a four star rating only because I haven't been able to explore the whole menu. I can only review the Sunday Brunch. The Dungeness Debiled Eggs, were delish! The Langoustine Omelette, was super yummy! And the bloody Mary, was just as good. Will most definitely be returning.
8/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had a business lunch at Skool and my visitor and I highly enjoyed it. He is European so I thought this might be a place he would enjoy. He chose the Nicoise Salad which is always a winner. I had the pulled chicken sandwich which despite its shocking green color was delicious. Service was very good.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Two couples, we had soup, risotto, squid ink spaghetti, mussel, squid appetizer + blue moon. ~$200 total.
Great service, great food, nice upscale ambience. Will be back.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Focus on the small plates
The best way to experience Skool is family style. For this visit we ordered EVERY side dish and multiple small plates. The veg in every dish is seasonal, fresh and perfectly ripe. The butterfish was a standout. The service was excellent - attentive, friendly and informative but not hovering. Note of caution, by 7 - 7:30 the place is full and it is very loud with all the chatter and laughter.
8/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Reliable, great place!
I have been to Skool at least five times, and each visit has been memorable. The atmosphere combines a unique blend of contemporary and hip with casual and relaxed - thankfully, it's not a scene. I always know I can bring a group of friends, and we'll have a fun time on the patio or inside (as we did this past Friday night). The wine list always has an especially interesting choice or two that you don't see everywhere (e.g., Vin santo), and the happy hour specials are terrific. Their Nicoise salad and the crudo never fails.
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
great service and interesting menu
i really liked the restaurant. Can get a little loud if it gets crowded. If the weather was better we would have eaten outside. but I like the inside and thought it was a nice enviroment. the food is unique and unusual and that is what I liked about it. It was slightly hard to find something for one of the guests but they were accomodating and made it work.
I would go back again.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
luv u skool
Always love to come here. Brunch was tasty and the bloody with bacon and pickled veggies has been what my life has been missing all these years! Staff was great especially the manager-really accomodating. We moved out of soma to another part of the city but will definitely be back soon.
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
2nd trip just as good as the 1st...
Returning to Skool for the 2nd time within the same month. 1st time was just my wife and I. This time around, we had party of 8 and were able to try more items on the menu....and they were all good. I was skeptical when I order the cured fish sampler, but it turn out to be a hit...great with wine pairing. Waitress provided us with watermelon sorbet and strawberry ice cream to celebrate my brothers birthday....and yes they were so good that I would actually pay for them. Definitely will return for the 3rd time in the near future.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Creative yummy dishes-will be back!
Love the daring dishes here and how they mix it up. Great setting, went with the family, will be back with friends and take advantage of the full service bar.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Beautiful day in the City
We were entertaining guests from out of the country. They loved the food....especially the oyster sandwich. Great service, and staff very friendly. When in the neighborhood, we will definitely return.
8/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Enjoyed the cured fish sampler platter, the flatbread with smoked herring, uni flan, eryngii mushrooms, japanese eggplant, kale salad, salmon tartare, grilled squid. All the flavors were unique and memorable. Skool is a hidden gem, worth the drive from anywhere in the Bay Area.
9/4/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great tasty food! Slightly lackluster service, but food is king, so I'm not complaining!
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
I came here with 3 friends. We ordered 4 appetizers and split 2 entrees.
We really liked uni flan, squid, and tuna appetizers. Also we thought Spagettina with squid ink was really good. but Pork cheek and risotto with fish and shrimp were less good.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Inventive food, great service
Great place for a great seafood meal with great service and a nice setting.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Really great food without the crowd
Had the Ichibo and Eggs and it was absolutely fantastic. The size of the meal was just perfect. Not too big, not too small, so I felt full but not overly so. The eggs were perfectly over easy, and the onions & mushrooms were cooked just right. The onions were not overly soft, more al dente and the mushrooms were cooked just beyond the raw taste but not rubbery...just right!
I hesitate to recommend this place only because I WANT IT ALL TO MYSELF! ;-)
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Skool is a fantastic place
Skool is a fantastic place for dinner. We had several courses, including the flatbread, squid spaghettini, and shrimp risotto, and everything was excellent! We got so excited with the menu that we over-ordered, and then realized we were going to be late to our next event. I felt bad asking them to speed it up, because our server and the kitchen were doing such a good job pacing out the meal, but they were very understanding and reacted quickly and got us out the door right on time.
I'd recommend this place very highly for the food, the service, and the great bar!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
I will definitely return the next time I am in SF!
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great unique dishes, fun atmosphere
Food was outstanding! Service a tad slow during busy hours. Try the mushroom fries for sure.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
A great restaurant steps up
Skool has always been one of my go-to dining spots for great cuisine. But the chef has surpassed himself. Innovative explosions of taste abound. You just won't find some of his creations outside of NYC.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Never had a meal here that wasn't delicious. The nicoise is the standout on the brunch menu. I live in the neighborhood and love taking friends here. Everyone loves it. And the ginger honey shots are awesome!
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
The full experience was amazing!
The ambiance, service (waiter recommended a very delicious bottle of Barbera). The shrimp risotto was rich and delicious. The squid was also delicious. I wish I tried the eggplant but will definitely revisit this restaurant.

Get the Steamed Muscles
Even with how much money I ended up spending, it felt well worth the price, especially the steamed muscles dish. Even though they are listed as an entree they make a nice, large appetizer to share with a few people.
11/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
Skool is a great spot tucked away in a corner of the Design District. The Blowfish heritage is clearly there but this is no cookie-cutter repeat, with more emphasis on cooked Japanese fare and a selection of more westernized staples such as the great Kobe burger. With a choice of indoor and outdoor seating, it's a great spot for weekday lunches but also for weekend brunches.
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our table was available upon
Our table was available upon arrival. Our servers were friendly and efficient. The food was absolutely first rate. All in all, a great evening. I find nearly all restaurants too loud, and Skool is no exception, but since that's the case almost across the board, they lose no points for it.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent late lunch!
I had a last minute client from out of town, and in spite of the fact that the kitchen was about to close five minutes after I walked in, the staff was very kind and accommodating. I was able to order some outstanding food and impress my client. We split both the ink squid spaghettini, which were most amazing, and unexpectedly came in a broth, and an eclectic Nicoise salad, with lightly seared tuna. The wine list was very fine, as was my cocktail, a Fortaleza, tomato water and basil concoction.
The espresso was the right size, and the lunch was a total success.
I will be back.

Awesome Potrero Secret
I LOVE this place. Food and service are OUTSTANDING! I celebrated my birthday there with my sisters and I could not have asked for better tasting food! The French toast was to die for! :) Just exceptional!
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
The menu was a little more eclectic with things like pickled sardines (Excellent) The beef shoulder (Pot Roast) was awesome and there was something for everyone. It was not overly expensive. The menu was a little restrictive if you are not very adventurous so its a little more for foodies.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Skool was a great find! Plenty of FREE parking. There is something for everyone on the menu. Casual and chic atmosphere.
5/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Cocktails, food, service- ALL GREAT
Had a fantastic meal at Skool. Everything from the cocktail menu through to dessert - it was delicious. We took friends who previously lived in SF but wanted to try something new and different. This fit the bill! Our friends were super impressed by every dish we had. Be sure to ask for the vegetarian menu which had a lot of great options for the non-meat eaters.

Lasting Impression for a 1st Date
I've been to Skool many times, and decided this would be a great place for a first date. My date was very impressed by the restaurant and he thought the food was incredible. He loved the Uni Flan which is a good sign because it is one of my favorite items on the menu.
