Very creative in how they combine flavors and uselocal ingredients. Open Table says "Italian infuences"; not relevant. It is a total original. Free parking across the steet, by the way.

Proposed to my Wife Here
(She accepted). In an exceptionally foodie town, Piedmont still stands out. It's not a cheap outing, but it's great for business, special occasions, or that night out where you're just dying for an awesome dinner. Everything is exhaustively locally sourced -- and delicious.

Local food brilliantly prepared
I have now been to Piedmont three times. The first time I was surprised how good it was. The second time I was delighted. The third time I was proud to show off this neighborhood gem. It is fitting that Piedmont is two blocks away from the Durham Farmer's Market. If you happen to be hosting Michael Pollan for dinner and want to show how far Durham has come in terms of local food, consider Piedmont!
I can imagine the restaurant becoming loud when it's full. We ate very early, before it had filled up, and it was nice and quiet.

Love the Service
My fiance and I love the Piedmont! The service is always terrific. We are thinking about having our reception there.

Good food with local ingredients
We ate at Piedmont because it was located in downtown Durham, where we were staying for a visit. It was recommended for great food with local produce. We were not disappointed. The menu is changed daily and features a complete range of dishes featuring vegetables, fish, pork, beef, and chicken. Our selections were well-prepared and not over-salted, as many chefs do. The portions were balanced and nicely plated. We made selections from appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Each was excellent. We left very satisfied. Hightly recommended.

Bastille Day Dinner
A four-course, prix fixe dinner--with a paired wine for each course--proved to be a delightful meal that included the opportunity to get to know the general manager of the dining room and the sommelier. With a small group of new acquaintances--at a long, single table in the mezzanine--the general manager genuinely provided, as intended, the personal hospitality of his extended, home, dining room table. The added pleasure of dining with the owner of La Farm Bakery, who provided ingredients for the meal, and meeting the chef--near the evening's end--punctuated an informative evening with a deserved exclamation point! We truly enjoyed a delightful, didactic and delicious evening at the Bastille Day Dinner (first in a Summer Dining Series).

New Chef is Outstanding.
My most recent experience at Piedmont was far and above any I've had there in the last year or more. The new chef is outstanding and the service couldn't be friendlier. They continue to serve great cocktails and focus on local, sustainable ingredients. If it's been a while since you visited, you should give it another try. Everyone I've sent their way recently has also loved their meal. Well done, Piedmont.

This was a great place for our anniversary dinner !!

Every bite was flavorful. It's definitely a place we will go to again.

Had a beer dinner. Great food and wonderful waitress we had. Enjoyed it very much!

Slightly Chilly but Excellent Food
The Piedmont is a great part of the thriving Durham food scene. The date cake dessert is AMAZING, and the entrees are an excellent example of modern southern fusion. The only downside is that the restaurant is rather chilly, and so a sweater is required. Prices are extremely decent compared to a big city, but are on the pricier side for Durham, so while it's a good place for a special occasion, it's probably not a place for everyday dinner. Overall it was a great experience.

Great local food!
I made a reservation for our anniversary dinner, and we were not disappointed. The food was great, the server was friendly and attentive, and we were happy to see so much locally produced food on the menu. I needed a gluten-free meal, and the server was able to quickly suggest small substitutions to meet my needs. We were even given complimentary champagne after our meal. We would definitely recommend this place, and we hope to go back soon!

Piedmont gets it right!
Piedmont does a great job of blending everyday flavors to come up with unique final dishes. The portion sizes are perfect which allows them to keep the prices reasonable. They hit it just right on all the phases.

Amazing food and impeccable service
Every dish we had was spectacular and the service was perfect. Our server asked us if we were in a hurry (which we weren't) and they divided the appetizers so that my husband and I each could try the others. It was thoughtful and a nice touch to have the extra step taken care of for us.

Piedmont in Durham Awesome
We have dined here before and absolutely enjoy the experience each time. Food is great with nice portions. Service is well paced and non rushed. Very good experience

Great local place in Durham
Food was phenomenal. All local products were used. Service was adequate. We went on a monday night and it seemed like they were understaffed but it could be different for other nights. I would definitely come back.

new menu at Piedmont
The restaurant chef has changed again. Our waiter joked about Piedmont 4.0. The food was excellent, elegantly presented and not expensive. As has been the case in the past the menu is a little short -- six starters and six main courses -- but enough of a variety to choose from.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
We've heard the raves, but hadn't had the chance to make the trip to Downtown Durham on the weekend. We live in Holly Springs, so usually frequent Cary and Raleigh, but it was SO worth the short drive on the new Triangle Expressway. The heirloom tomato appetizer was the perfect balance of sweet and savory, the grouper was delightfully crispy on top, and the date cake was straight from heaven ;-) The servers and staff were warm and friendly and made us feel very welcome. We have somewhere new now to add to our list of favorite places to dine!
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious meals of local foods
Colorfully plated meals of healthy local foods and creative drinks highlighted our evening with out-of-town guests. Chef Ben is a great addition to the Triangle area.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I enjoyed our first visit so much that we took another couple for a repeat trip. The second results were just as satisfying for us and our friends were delighted with everything from cocktails to cookies. Definitely recommended.

Excellent food & cocktails!
Excellent food & cocktails! Only downside was that the noise level was a little high even though the restaurant wasn't full.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Super good food! The service
Super good food! The service was a tad slow when it came to refills and getting incidentals like cream for our coffee which came After our dessert was almost finished. We will definitely go back. The beet and okra salad was perfect and the butternut ravioli "lune" was amazing.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sustainable, Local and delicious
I try to support as many restaurants that use their local foods and companies as much as possible....I travel a lot and even in 2013, it is difficult to find in places! Everything was excellent...they helped pick a bottle of perfect wine to go along with it also...lots of detail went into this food and it was all worth it.

Surprise gem near hotel
I was not expecting anything reasonable near my hotel during my brief stay in Durham while on business. The Piedmont was a pleasant surprise with well thought out and prepared food in all categories. Southern specialty ingredients used in interesting ways. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Perfect meal for a perfect evening
We enjoyed a phenomenal dinner here before the Jack Johnson concert in town. They were very mindful of the time, and service was prompt. The food was fresh, innovative, flavorful, complex and exciting. Every bite was to die for. We are from charleston and wish this restaurant were in our town. Highlights included the sweet potato ravioli, the pumpkin soup, and date cake for dessert. Enjoy!!!
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had a friend visiting from the Cape and wanted to walk yo dinner. Decided on Piedmont which turned out to be a great choice. For starters we had the Pork Belly. The dish was tasty and well-balanced, and a perfect size for two.
For the entree I went with the Risotto and my friend had the butternut squash ravioli. Piedmont is partnering with local pasta maker, Melina. Neither dish disappointed. The caraway ash on the risotto was an unexpected delight.
The service was excellent.

This is why you go out to eat
Food was amazing - pumpkin soup with an unattainably smooth texture, creme fraiche and white truffle oil.
Wines were super - my husband was happy with the scotches offered.
Carolina flounder is one of the best dishes I've ever had, and the roast chicken was like having steak.
Beautiful presentations, really nice setting, nothing stuffy.
Our server was attentive and not overbearing - we ordered dessert because of the caliber of the food and swooned over the salted caramel ice cream with sticky date cake. What a treat - the flavors as well as the textures.
We will go back any time we are in the area.
Also, online reservations worked perfectly and quickly, unlike many places we've reserved online.
One of our best anniversary dinners.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was great, but a bit pricey. I appreciate that the server gave us a birthday treat to celebrate my partner, but I wish the server gave us more information- she was good but very quiet! We came because its a farm to table restaurant and we didn't here anything about it while we were there. Overall, good find, i'd recommend it for a special occasion.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went the extra mile
When the wife got some shell with the crab in her pumpkin soup they not only replaced the soup but also comped it and comped dessert. The food was very tasty and well seasoned.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
A lovely and delicious evening!
Great food paired with friendly professional service and an talented chef make for a perfect evening. It could not have been done better! I had a flounder special that was perfectly times and deliciously presented. A highly recommended way to enjoy an evening

Just lovely. We'll be back!
We enjoyed such a lovely evening at Piedmont. The menu is short, but easily something for everyone. The food was delicious. The setting comfortable and welcoming. A real gem. I'm already looking forward to our next visit.

This was our first time at
This was our first time at Piedmont, we really enjoyed the experience. The beet salad was excellent along with the Carolina Redfish, and the steak medallions. The $10 pie dessert (not really $10) is the chefs grandmothers recipe, a must try.
Service was excellent. We will definitely be back our next time in Durham.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
I thought the food was fantastic. I took my dad and the food was flavorful and the ambiance was sophisticated but still very chill and relaxed. As a student of the environment, I also love that they list the farms where the food comes from (including the duke campus farm!). The service was friendly and it was a great evening.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious no matter what you order
After I ordered my entree, I saw the table next to ours get their order, and I immediately regretted not getting the handmade butternut squash luna. When my steak came (with brussel sprouts--which I don't like--and sweet potato--which I do), I was a little sad. Then I bit in to my meal--heaven. I could eat those brussle sprouts daily, and wanted to lick the plate, clean it was so delicious. My friend's pork chop with greens and apple chutney made us argue over which was better. The local cheese plate to start was a pleasure. The ten dollar pie is more of a cobbler, but was also heavenly--the cinnamon ice cream made the dish.
The service was knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and not too intrusive. All in all a wonderful experience.

Get the fish with cauliflower!! Its fantastic. Amazing food. Durham's best. Desserts also outstanding and not too fussy.

A neighborhood gem
As new residents we just discovered Piedmont and it is one of the best in the area. All food was fresh, well prepared and presented. Can't wait to return.

New Chef is fantastic!
Wow...the new Chef at Piedmont is fantastic. Members of our party had all different entrees and food tastes, from vegetarian to carnivore, and every single entree got rave reviews. The salads and appetizers were equally delicious and beautiful to look at. I had all but stopped going to Piedmont, but this new Chef has it back on my top-o-the-city list.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
I kept hearing how good this restaurant was but somehow never made time to go- i loved it and now can't wait to go back! The service was incredible and the food the freshest I have ever tasted- they have a wonderful small wine selection- a Pinot Noir by the glass was the best I've had-so good, I have ordered a few bottles!

Dinner and a Show
Great dinning spot in downtown Durham. Nice vibe and the food was excellent. Also wait staff was really friendly and very helpful on moving our dinner along so we could make the Saturday night show at DPAC on time.

One of the best meals I have
One of the best meals I have had in quite some time.

Superb local food
Small but expertly crafted menu selections, so check before you go to make sure there's something you like. I'm a vegetarian so there was only one entree I could have but it was AMAZING. Flavors paired very well and the local food was very fresh. I loved the frozen peanut butter moose for dessert as well. Definitely one of my top 2 favorite restaurants in Durham. Highly recommend for a date or general foodie experience!

EXCELLENT service and lovely food
Six of came here for an earlier dinner after an afternoon movie. As three couples we asked for separate checks and mentioned that one couple had to eat sooner than the others so as to get to the airport. Our waitress could not have been better. She was charming and efficient.
The beet salad was DELICIOUS and the scallops were very good.
All in all a terrific experience
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Went with a group of 8 people. Service and food are very classy and very fast. Even on a busy night they were able to tend to us very quickly.

Should be harder to get a table
Surprised that we had our choice of times available to get last minute reservations on a Saturday night at this excellent restaurant in Durham, close to DPAC and other Durham nightlife. Piedmont's emphasis on fresh and locally sourced food really delivered an excellent meal for me and my wife. We started with cocktails (interesting variety of house-made ingredients), and then shared the beets and cheese plates as appetizers. Both were delicious, but very small in size, which was what we wanted because we wanted to leave room for entre and dessert, but the appetizers are no substitute for an entre. For entrees, the grass-fed beef with sweet potato, bacon and brussel sprouts was a huge hit, the risotto good but not as great. Will go back!

Piedmont Restaurant in Durham NC
Went to the Piedmont Restaurant in Durham on Foster St. The restaurant opens at 5:30 and that was our reservation as we had tickets to a show.
The menu was diverse and interesting, we had a beet and goat cheese appetizer, which was great. Entrees were a very tasty pork chop and a duck leg confit. Both were enjoyed, sides fit the plate and the portion size was perfect. We had the sticky date and caramel ice cream dessert - yummy.
The staff was friendly, timely, and well versed with the menu. They knew there was a show in town and asked if we were going. They were attentive to time, without making us feel rushed.
We'll be back to try more thigs on the menu. I recommend you give it a try too.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had given up on Piedmont for a couple of years after the founding group sold it. The food had been uneven and the service unevenly welcoming. We took another chance based on the reviews here and I'm delighted to report that the place is back. Everything we had was delicious, drinks and food and the staff could not have been nicer or more attentive. Durham needed another mid-priced alternative (especially one open on Monday night). This was always a great space, so happy to have it back.

Dined before Michael McDonald
Everything about Piedmont was fabulous! I love that the menu changes based on the availability of local produce. We had such a hard time deciding on our selections but our server was very helpful & knowledgeable. I'm not the biggest fan of pumpkin, but the pumpkin soup was delicious! Our server also made sure to keep us on time for the show. I will be back!
