Fresh Homemade Pasta! Delicious!
We started with fresh bread and a white bean puree which was heavenly. Next arancini which are risotto balls which were a bit small, like three small meatball for a total of 6 bites and the antipasti plate with really good meats, cheeses and olives. Plenty for two. The fettuccini Alfredo which was light and lovely. Not a pile of boiled thick noodles but thin and perfectly sauced not soupy. Homemade three cheese ravioli which were lovely and light. My father had the pasta with Bolognese sauce which was perfect. My husband had the lasagna with a meat sauce which was delicious but my Mom had the winner with very light gnocchi with Italian sausage. Drinks were reasonable and service was attentive. The big difference here is the FRESH PASTA.

Had a excellent dinner at the Vinoteca on a recent visit to Boston. Started with the caprese salad and had their braised beef ravioli and both were terrific, as was the service.

great food & service
everyone in my party loved this restaurant. we split the fried calamari and the antipasto platter for appetizers, which were both delicious. entrees were the squid ink pasta, lobster fra diavalo, gnocchi with wild boar, and a spaghetti with pancetta. all were amazing, since the pasta was made fresh. definitely would recommend!

Excellent food and maitre
Excellent food and maitre d' very accommodating on a window table for a special occasion. This is an energetic restaurant with a vibrant crowd and noise level but we were able to find a quiet spot to enjoy. Extensive wine list but the server appeared fairly inexperienced and wasn't able to offer helpful advice on wine options. Something for everyone!

A fun spot in the North End!
We had dinner at Vinoteca di Monica's on a recent summer Saturday night. Group of 6 - we were seated very quickly. We had a wonderful waiter who was very efficient. Monica's menu is much larger than many of the other restaurants in the North End, and with multiple special appetizers and entrees, the menu was even more varied! Out of the 6 of us, not a single person was disappointed with their meal. Wine list is also excellent - we had a fantastic Italian Chardonnay, which went perfectly with all of the handmade pastas that were ordered. We're definitely going back!

Came on recommendation of a few friends & it was AMAZING! Gnocchi was melt in your mouth delicious! Never experienced gnocchi that was so tender and wonderful! Waiter let me "create" my dish with Cappellini , arrabiata sauce with shrimp & it was the BEST arrabiata sauce I've ever had! I order it everywhere because I love "spicy" & was so good! Rigatoni Con Salccicia E Rabe, Cappellini Con Gamberi & salmon special w/risotto cake was delicious too! Can definitely tell that they make their own pasta! Service was very good, Valet parking available so it's a nice option even if it's $20. Would definitely return & recommend to anyone who likes Italian! We tried another Italian restaurant in the North end & it didn't even compare! Will return :)

This is a must try. Innovative menu. Fresh ingredients.

Will come back again!
The service was great and fast. The food was still hot when the plates arrive at our table. It was delicious although extremely pricy. We ordered from their special so we didn't even know how much our dishes cost until we saw the bill. So next time, we'll ask first. Other than that, we'll recommend the restaurant.

Excellent Italian Cuisine
I have been to Italy on a number of occasion Vinoteca di Monica is similar to a family owned Italian dining experience in Milan. The Staff and host treated every guest like family and along with the ambiance of being in the Boston North End an after diner walk made the evening very enjoyable.
Highly recommended for Monica's taste of real Italy

Nice spot in the North End
Very busy on a Saturday night but good service and good food. For starters we had the stuffed dates, they were terrific. I had the vegetable minestone soup and the turkey meatball appetizer. I loved the soup, it was light but very flavorful with lots of fresh summer vegetables. The turkey meatball appetizer consisted of 3 small meatballs on a piece of grilled bread topped with sauce. The meatballs were good, not great. But I loved the tomato sauce and requested some extra because the bread absorbed it all. My companion had the bolonese and really enjoyed it. Atmosphere was tightly packed tables (like most NorthEnd places) but pleasant with all the windows open on a nice summer night. Will come again.

I would go back...
My husband and I were visiting Boston for a long weekend. Two different people raved about it, so we decided we had to go. We enjoyed our meal very much. I would not say it was THE best I ever had, but I would definitely go back if given the opportunity.

Great food. Pastas and ciopino was superb. Great Italian wine list plus solid, professional service. Best meal ive had in North End.

Incredible homemade pasta!!
Amazing food amongst the many places to eat in the North End., The Service is incredible and always ontop of it. I highly recommend the mussels as well as any of the homemade pasta dishes.

We tried a new place in the North End, and found Vinoteca di Monica to be fresh and a bit different. The menu had a very large and interesting selection of pastas, more than the usual ordinary dishes, but we wound up with fish - salmon and halibut - which were very well prepared. I want to go back and try the pasta....! Our waiter was a bit slow and distracted, but all in all a friendly good place.

Delicious. Friendly. A gem. Crowded. Not quite ready for our reservations. Bit it was a Sat. night and a feast in the N. End

Always A Good Choice
This was our third time going to this restaurant and we weren't disappointed. The food is consistently good and they have a full bar which is great if you are not a beer or wine drinker. I had the home made lobster ravioli which was delicious. The lobster reduction was a little salty but overall did not take away from the dish. My boyfriend had the pan-seared scallops with black linguini and he loved it. His only complaint was he only got three scallops but they were delicious. The wait staff are all very nice and accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Food was fantastic. Waited at the bar for the rest of my party (they were late) and the bar tender was professional and attentive. Rest of staff terrific. Waiter a tad slow but it was rush time.

This is not a 30.00 and under restaurant! Everything about the place is wonderful but there's no way you'll get an entree and a drink for 30.00 here.... Open Table: please re-evaluate the criteria fro this rating and update to reflect the current reality.

Our Favorite North End Restaurant
Monica's is our favorite North End Restaurant. We have many out of town friends who visit, and Monica's is always on our list for a superb evening of food, drink, and ambience. Monica's never disappoints!

Another great meal
We went with a party of 7 on a busy Friday night and were treated as if we were the only ones in the restaurant. Everyone raved about their dinners and the waiter was excellent with a great sense of humor. We have been many times before and will continue to go back.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was our second visit to Monica's. The first being a New Year's Eve and the second this last Saturday night. Both the food and the service were equally outstanding, The Calamari I had over linguine just melted in your mouth. It was a beautiful night in Boston and the bustle of the North End just added to the experience. We are sure to be back again.

Solid Food, Great Atmosphere
The restaurant is very well decorated and has a great atmosphere. I have seen previous reviews complaining that the tables are too close to each other and that the noise level is high. I did not feel as though the noise level was too high nor that the other tables were too close. It was a great environment.
Service was excellent. We ordered the antipasto special appetizer for the table, and completely enjoyed it. We had questions about some of the items on the plate, and the server and maitre d' were both prompt in answering our questions.
I ordered a gnocchi special, and the gnocchi were light and fluffy, not too starchy. Only complaint was that my dish and my wife's dish were slightly too salty.
Will definitely come here again.

North End Dining
We have been to this restaurant previously and we have been pleased every time. They offered a Prix Fixe menu and 2 of the 4 of us decided to order that. Since it included 3 courses, I decided to go all out myself. Despite adequate portions, I wasn't full after a 3-hour dinner and had room for desert. One of our party was late and the waiter was very helpful in helping him catch up and feel comfortable. The food, as usual, was outstanding. The waiter was very helpful in finding a Valpolicella that was good for everyone.
We'll keep going back.

Vinoteca di Monica
Last visit in 2008 and it was a nice experience. The same 5 years later. Window tables are small enough to be romantic in the energy of a busy restaurant. We arrived early to the bar side. We had a bar table for 4 and enjoyed a drink and conversation. We moved to our table and service was timely. Food came out at a nice intervals. No Garlic Bread offered (oddly) as a side or appetizer. Ordered the bruschetta and if sharing between 4, it allows one bite each. Order two if that is your choice. It was fabulous. After ap and salad, they brought plain bread and a dipping sauce (white bean based) and it was just what we needed. My glass of Pinot Grigio, surprisingly, was delicious. Definitely will return here for a special occasion, or anytime.
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have been going to this restaurant on a regular basis and are very happy with the food. We have requested a window seat several times but never receive one. Because there are only two of us we usually get a very small table squished between other couples. The restaurant is very loud but all restaurants in the North End are. Food is always good and worth the trip.

Modern Italian in the North End
The Good: Reasonable prices (Think 10 dollar apps), well above average (esp for the price) meals, creative specials, great presentation, and a chic scene make Vinoteca di Monica a great spot. The Involtini di Formaggio is a can't miss.
The Bad: Unfortunately being in the bar meant moving around was tough. The restaurant itself is small and the bar area leaves little room to maneuver. Also a disadvantage of the bar was somewhat slow service. Friendly and on point, but took a bit.
Overall: Miles ahead of a "Red Sauce" Italian place, but the small size makes it a bit tough on everyone.

Not to be missed when in Boston
My wife and I had just arrived in Boston from San Francisco an hour before our reservation. It was our first experience with Vinoteca di Monica, although we'd dined at its sibling on a previous trip. We had a marvelous experience. The service was quite good, even though we had a relatively late reservation. All of the staff members were friendly, warm and made us feel quite welcome. The food was excellent, and exceeded our expectations. My house-made gnocchi with wild boar ragu (a special that evening) was simply superb. My wife's simple pasta pomodoro was exquisitely prepared and very tasty. We were so impressed by our experience that we decided to change our dinner reservations for next evening and return to Vinoteca di Monica.

Nice spot for pasta
Made a reservation in the morning for 6pm. Very surprised the time was available. Arrived 15 min early, and they were very happy to see us. Great dishes, nice wine list.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Beyond wonderful. Great location, great staff, great ambience, and best of all, great food. Minestrone soup could've been hotter, but was delicious. Grilled prawns appetizer equally delicious. Gnocchi w/sweet Italian sausage & the lamb ragout were so tasty, perfectly seasoned. Be sure to save room for the bread pudding with fig & Frangelico with butterscotch sauce. It is to die for!!

A great experience!
Food was terrific. The service was attentive without being intrusive -- food arrived promptly but not too quickly -- noise level was appropriate to the setting and not overwhelming. Definitely recommend.

Great restaurant and delicious
Great restaurant and delicious food. We shared several appetizers and the fish stew (daily special) and were totally satisfied. The only complaint is that we made reservations for 730pm and still waited for over 30 mins to be seated. I use open table to make reservations to avoid the wait so was disappointed when our 'fifteen minute' delay more than doubled.

Students and parent dinner
I've lived in Boston for over three years (college student) & I've found that restaurants in the North End are hit or miss. Vinoteca was very delicious! We had the zucchini flower and spicy cheese appetizer, both good but small. For dinner my 18-year old brother had cheese ravioli, which was good but not a huge portion so he was still hungry. I had the green spaghetti with turkey meatballs - delicious. Not enough for leftovers but plenty to fill me up. My father had the steak, which he said was also very good. We skipped dessert to try somewhere else, but overall a good dinner! I would suggest it versus some of the other places, however the price tag to food portion is something to keep in mind. The food definitely is worth it!!!

North End Treasures
We ate at the Vinoteca di Monica for the first time on a Monday night. We had a quiet table by the window. Our waiter quoted so many specials of the night that it could have been a nice menu on its own. This place had a great Zagat rating and deserves it. The food is excellent! The family that runs the restaurant also has a market and another restaurant Trattoria di Monica (also excellent for lunch). The Mercato will add a pizzeria later this year. They have friendly and helpful staff. Without question, we would return.
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
food was great, service was slow maybe because the server was overloaded.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love the food
Brought family - had to sit in bar which wasn't great with kids, but we all love the food here so it was worth it. Clean plates all around. Great service and good wine list. Super busy so make a reservation.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
My boyfriend and I came here for our date night. We shared the fried calamari for an appetizier which was very good. For entrees, I got the tajarin con piselli e prosciutto and he got the pappardelle alla bolognese. We were very pleased with the food but the service was a bit slow. It was also a pretty loud place, so wouldn't recommend for a first date :) overall, great place to grab dinner and wine in the north end away from the crowds.

Just Great Italian Food
If you are looking for over the top cuisine, this is not the place to go. If you are looking for excellent Italian food, this is the place to go.

Gem in the North End
The food was great, our server (Allesandro) was knowledgeable with a great sense of both decorum and humor (yes, an unusual combination). We went for my brothers birthday and had his children (13 and 10) with us. We all had a wonderful evening. My brother and his wife (both Boston natives) said it was the best dinner they have had in the North End in years.

Had a girls night here and the food was very good. Had grilled calamari salad right followed by chicken tortellini with sage cream sauce. Soooo good. Wished I could have tried more :)
Small place so noise level increases as the night goes on. We were there around 6:30 and it was fine

Great Italian Spot!!!
We went to Vinotecca to celebrate my daughter's 22 birthday. Delicious pastas and appetizers. You cannot beat home made pasta!!

Good North End Boston Restaurant
There are so many choices of restaurants in the North End of Boston and Vinoteca di Monica did not disappoint our party of three. The antipasto and bruschetta were delicious and all entrees were pleasing. A nice basket of soft bread accompanied the meal. It is definitely a spot to be revisited.

North End Gnocchi
My wife and I had a lovely Saturday night dinner with delightful wine. The Gnocchi was really awesome, melt-in-your-mouth. Menu is extensive and tempting. We were at the restaurant early and thought it would be before the crowd, but the place was full and the atmosphere was lively. Despite being in a full restaurant approaching peak hour we did not feel rushed by the staff. The waiters are friendly and service is at a good pace. We will go back, as this is a nice restaurant option in the North End.
