Food as performance art
Dinner at Meadowood requires serious contemplation. Having no menu, the truth of the matter is that one cannot consider this dining as much as a theatrical event; never knowing what will be coming as you are graciously served over a dozen various plates. Essentially as series of Amuse Bouches, most were fantastically clever as parcels of flavor, meant to capture the essence of a dish. The dishes were inspired by the flavors of Poland and Russia, as Chef Kostow let us know from his heritage, and it was really great to engage with the Chef during dinner. Items such as various renditions of pickles, and potatoes with sorrel, clearly refer to Eastern European cuisine in its most refined form and were my favorites. Thanks Chef for the night.

Awesome food!! The chef is very creative creating dishes you will not find elsewhere. A great dining experience!! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Dining as art
The Restaurant at Meadowood lived up to its Michelin stars with very imaginative and beautifully presented "food". We had probably 12 different dishes, some as amuse bouches and others as part of the meal, but they were all fascinating and tasty. The meal is more like an edible art installation than a meal, but left us feeling fully satisfied with the food we'd eaten and the incredible skill and thought that went into the preparation of each course.

$225 for the tasting menu and $225 for the wine pairing, basically $1,000 for 2 people, excluding tips. That's overpriced for what was essentially a lot of very small - however tasty - bites, most of which were vegetable based and japanese style. We hit a late night burger joint on the way back from Meadowood to feel full. Last time my wife and I went there, we picked a 4/5 course menu with appropriately sized portions, but this option is gone now. The place is great, the service top-notch, but we will not be back unless somebody else pays.

We spent our 40th wedding anniversary at Meadowood Resort.
The resort went out of their way to make everything perfect. They succeeded!! Our anniversary dinner at the restaurant was wonderful. The staff were all so nice and accommodating.
We will definiately recommend the resort to our friends traveling to the Napa area.

Going for the Michelin Stars?
There are many amazing restaurants in the Wine Country at many price points, but the Restaurant at Meadowood seems to be pulling out all the stops to compete at the highest level on food and service (with prices to match). No a la carte options here - just an extensive and marvelously well done tasting menu featuring as many local ingredients as possible prepared and served in interesting ways. When is the last time you had a course served on the pages of The Confessions of St. Augustine? I can't tell you what will be on the menu the night you go, but be prepared to sit back and enjoy a dozen or so courses prepared and served as befits world-class restaurant. Wine pairings are available and excellent.

A unique tasting menu of small plates. Each plate was the culmination of the effort you would put into a whole meal. The paired wines were excellent, the staff was knowledgeable and personable. Alot of money but worth it.

We love the place itself, the food was truly amazing with good wines for the different courses, the service was amazing they did everything just right! Loved that we didn't get a menu ahead but when we left got the menu that was created for us! We had a great evening!

World Class Restaurant
Creative prix fixe menu with an outstanding wine list. Well deserving of its three Michelin stars. My only complaint would be that they don't give you a menu so there are no choices, and at times, it felt like we were on an assembly line. Nevertheless, the food itself was excellent.

Excellent, not ethereal
The food was excellent, though it is completely puzzling how this restaurant received 3 Michelin stars. Fellow 3 star restaurant Jean Georges is definitely 1 star better than this place, and 1 star restaurant Gramercy Tavern should be only 1 star worse.
This is a drop dead gorgeous, light filled, tasteful dining room with outdoor seating, too. Couldn't ask for more.
Our head waiter (Olin?) asked us how the food was, and we were honest -- one ethereal plate, a few excellent, a few merely good. He did not look pleased. We asked that a cheese plate be sent back to the kitchen, and when we told Olin that it wasn't to our taste, he responded, "Well, it *is* a cow's milk cheese," as though we ordered it!

I was blown away and bowled
I was blown away and bowled over by the experience. The service, the food, the ambience... All superb... Well-deserving of a 3-star Michelin... If I return to Napa, I will definitely make it a point to return to The Restaurant at Meadowood.

A pleasant surprise
We didn't know exactly what to expect. Our experience was Over The Top. Look forward to a return visit.

The best meal of our lives!
The best meal of our lives! The staff was amazing from sommelier to servers, and the night ended with a fantastic tour of the kitchen. What an experience!

I've eaten at French Laundry
I've eaten at French Laundry w/my GF previously and my GF & I both felt that Meadowood was better. The food presentation is equally inventive, attractive and tasty at both restaurants, but the dining room at Meadowood is more intimate & comfortable than at the French Laundry. The service at Meadowood was also much more attentive and personalized. You'll also have a much easier time getting a reservation at Meadowood than you will at The French Laundry. Made my reservation on Open Table w/in a week of the date w/o any problem. Had to play telephone tag/roulette w/The French Laundry for weeks before I could get get a reservation there about a month in advance of the reservation date. So, if you have to choose, Meadowood is the place to go.

Beautiful restaurant and food
was blown away with my birthday dinner here. The setting is beautiful and the dining room is elegant and approachable, the perfect combination. Every single person was so attentive, including a special appearance by chef kostow, and a kitchen tour. the menu was very fresh and you can tell how much though goes into each of these dishes. one of the best experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. hope i can return one day!

An Evening you will never forget!
This chef is a culinary genius! Chef does all dishes to the season.
You can either have the 12 course or 18 course counter menu.
All courses are 3 or 4 small bites per serving. The presentation
is unbelievable. The staff beyond perfect! Of course this all comes
with a hefty price tag. It would have been nice to know about the no
menu and cost ahead of time. Otherwise it could not have been
a more perfect evening! A visit to the kitchen should not be missed.

The Meadowwood is doing some new and innovative dishes, fill with creative combination and layers of flavors.
On the night we were there, the dessert selection lifted us feeling a bit disappointed. It was little delicate pieces of artwork but the taste was un artistic. The dessert and the a bit too salty is reason only getting 4 stars instead of 5

Our best fancy dinner yet
I went with my wife on our honeymoon. We've eaten at a lot of fancy-pants places, including four other restaurants with 3 Michelin stars and many with 1-2, but this was our favorite so far.
Everything was delicious. Every course had some surprising use of ingredients, like a pumpernickel macaron, abalone with beans, or white chocolate noodles. They plated every dish thoughtfully and artistically. The venue is attractive but unpretentious. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful, but not fawning or overly familiar.
It's less formal and "perfect" than, say, Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence (waitstaff on hand at every moment), or Genyadana Hamadaya in Tokyo (a waitress appears to remove your plate the instant you set your chopsticks down).
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
one of the very best
will be tough to beat this meal...French Laundry should be ashamed that they do not even come close. friendly, service oriented team..open to suggestions and individual approach. The food was as good as it gets...

amazing inventive food
Lots of vegetables surprisingly for a 3 Stars Michelin Rest
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Relaxed setting with great food
I've been to Joel Rubuchon's 3 Michelin-star restaurant in Tokyo so that is what I compare it to. Here the service is more relaxed, less formal but still very attentive. It is less orchestrated (e.g. they don't put down the dishes at exactly the same time). We experienced one mishap where they gave us our check not realizing they skipped the last course. The service feels more like a 1 star restaurant.
The food was amazing. They don't wow you with impressive ingredients like wagyu, lobster and mounds of truffle. Instead they take fresh vegetables and simple ingredients and make the flavors explode in your mouth. Their presentation is wonderful. I was amazed at the complex flavors from what seemed to be simple ingredients.

A Culinary Experience of a Lifetime
Dining at The Restaurant at Meadowood is an unforgettable dining adventure! From the moment you walk into the foyer - the staff is extremely welcoming and attentive. The ambiance I would describe as "casual elegance" (not too stuffy but yet romantic, inviting & warm). The food was unique, creative and EXCEPTIONAL!!! The ingredients used were all so fresh and the combinations and textures of the ingredients were a delight! There is so much more I could say about The Restaurant at Meadowood; but let me sum it up by saying: if you're looking for an exceptional restaurant, look no further and make that reservation! You will not be disappointed! It is truly a wonderful dining experience!!

3 Michilin Stars for a reason
My husband and I enjoyed the 10 course tasting menu a couple of nights after enjoying French Laundry. It was incredible as well. A more intimate atmosphere. If you get the opportunity I rocommend them both as they are equally superior Resauraunts yet both have unique individual charichtaristics.
10/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Outstanding in all regards.
Creative and tasty, with knowledgeable yet relaxed service in a comfortable setting. The food was simply remarkable, paired with incredible service delivered by friendly and exquisitely trained professionals...and outstanding wines....WOW!!!

This is by far the best experience
This is by far the best experience for food, wine and service in all of the west coast. It far surpasses the French Laundry for service. The food is innovative, cooked to perfection each and every time, a work of art on a plate.

Service service service
I love the place....Michelin indeed...best dining experience ever

This is by far the best Restaurant
This is by far the best Restaurant and dining experience on the west coast. Service and food impeccable, while being genuinely warm and personable. All staff are personally knowledgeable about all aspects of the food preparation. Wine pairings are well thought out and enhance the dining experience. Chef Christopher Kostow is a master in the use of local and innovative ingredients and in translating a dining experience into a work of art both visually and on the pallet. A visit to the kitchen is a must. Chef Chris is proud of his staff and so very humble.
10/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Without question, this is a restaurant in which, if you have the opportunity, you must dine. Everything about the experience - each person with whom you interact, each course, the wines, the sommelier, the director, the chef, the presentation - is a moment about which you need to enjoy each and every facet. We have dined in the "world's best" restaurants, and this dining experience stands among and above them. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy this amazing culinary delight!
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had our 10th anniversary dinner at the Restaurant at Meadowood and what a dinner it was! From the moment we walked in we were treated like visiting royalty, complete with a note on our table to wish us a happy anniversary! The wait staff were all friendly, personable, and anticipated our every need. And they had a great sense of humor! The food was incredible. There were so many wonderful starting dishes we couldn't tell when the "nine" course dinner actually started. And we appreciated the printed menu they gave us as we'd never remember all of the wonderful tastes we had. Even the dishes used were unique and beautiful! This was the best restaurant we've ever been to. A well deserved three stars by Michelin.

An uncommon experience
I find myself at a loss to find anything negative to say regarding my dining experience. Each dish in the tasting menu was cleverly conceived and artistically presented. Interesting concepts were introduced much like being walked through a museum of modern art perhaps. The service was impeccable and always accompanied with a smile. It was attentive but never intrusive. I was disappointed that I could not see the surrounding area through the windows as it was dark. The restaurant is not however, well suited for cost-conscious customers and by extension not for family dining.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
A special experience all around
Wonderfully inventive food served beautifully on interesting and unique ways. The staff are knowledgeable and approachable including the sommelier. It was an absolute delight to be there. We loved the experience and will definitely go back. Much preferred this restaurant experience to Per Se in NYC.

Ive been around the world. This is by far the best tasting menu. All the staff we out of their way to make us happy.

Very special evening
Outstanding In all respects. Beautiful room, beautifully prepared food that tasted good, too! Exceptional staff - unobtrusive, well trained and knowledgable about wine and the ingredients of each serving. Expensive evening, but worth it! A must for foodies.
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
What a fantastic experience, the food was incredible. We enjoyed the wine pairing with the tasting menu and it was also tremendous, rare wines that beautifully accented the food. The food was the star however with the creative and spectacular plates. We have eaten at Joel Robichon and found the experience much more incredible at the Restaurant at Meadowood. Everyone was so welcoming and the environment was so comfortable and you really felt that they cared that you were there.

Deserved Michelin 3-Stars
The front-of-house crew and kitchen created a tightly choreographed but ultimately satisfying experience.
I was put-off by our pridefully scripted waiter, who refused to tell us our menu while asking us to order our wine. We decided to forgo the lengthy wine list, and ordered the wine-pairings - the best choice due to the diverse intense tastes of our meal.
The choreographing was soon blended with a meal that was mostly superb. Each course was wonderfully thoughtful and prepared to highlight its main ingredient. The exception was the spicebush-aged beef, accompanied by white-onion that was too raw and over-powered the flavors of the plate.
Our gastronomic senses were delightfully entertained in a justifiably prideful prefabrication.
10/29/2013 5:00:00 PM
all perfect on this night.
Details on courses, ingredients, presentation completely miss the mark; like trying to capture the Pyramids through the details of the stones.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I went there to mark our wedding anniversary. Food was wonderful, service outstanding, decor unstated elegance. We also enjoyed the tour of the kitchen that was offered after our repast. We will ago again.

What a lovely weekend in Napa, beginning at Meadowood on Friday night. We opted for the 16 course tasting with wine pairings. I believe that this restaurant truly lives up to its 3 star Michelin rating however it wasn't as creative and inventive as Alinea in Chicago (and way more expensive). The wait staff was knowledgeable in their description of all the dishes, the wine pairings were some of the best we had (my favorite was the montrachet paired with the "pumpkin salad")..... it was all flawless. My favorite part of the meal was the squab "tea". I would definitely go back to this restaurant and maybe try the nine course tasting instead of rolling out of there after 16 courses! Hands down I would go here over TFL.

A True Experience!
My boyfriend and I went to The Restaurant at Meadowood for our anniversary and it was beyond amazing! The service was impeccable, and the food was unique and interesting. It's obviously a tasting menu so the portions are VERY small, I would not recommend going hungry. But it's all about presentation and flavors. It's been a couple weeks and I'm still raving about it to everyone who will listen! We did the tasting menu and I did the wine pairing. LOVED IT!

Pretty Perfect Dinner
We thoroughly enjoyed the artsy presentation and unique concoctions. My favorites were the aged squab persimmon (very rare but so good, without the chewiness of rare meat - perhaps thanks to the aging process?), the squab tea which reminded me of the Chinese soup of black chicken cooked in Chinese medicinal herbs and roots, and the Aji (I could have eaten ten servings of that delicately prepared fish).

Fantastic experience all around. One of the best restaurants that we've ever had.

Fine Dining in Napa
The restaurant itself had a very clubhouse feel - a cozy, lodge-like setting with a fireplace in the lobby. Service was impeccable, and it was a very welcome surprise for the sommelier to come and speak Russian with my date. The noise level (8:45pm reservation) was very low initially, but as other patrons imbibed, the volume got noticeably loud - a good thing, so we didn't feel the need to whisper to each other.
The food was beautifully presented. Portions, as is typical of a tasting menu at a Michelin-rated 3-star restaurant, were tiny - a fond memory was of the 6 mini champagne-soaked vegetables. If anything, there was a sense of careful examination of each bite I took. I drove home quite content, and wished I could afford staying.

Benicia Babe Goes to Meadowood
I have to be completely honest here; The Restaurant at Meadowood is the very best restaurant in California. Bar none. Where to start? How about the ambiance - a roaring fire, and a pashmina to keep me warm. And the food - God, it was all home grown and so good I could have eaten five servings. The yogurt was great (I know, I know; yogurt? But taste it!) and the meat dishes were just delicious. All served on the most beautiful dishes - desert on branches and leaves. And if you drink too much, you can stay in one of the rooms on the grounds. The grounds are simply beautiful. Everyone on staff is the very best. I cannot say enough good things about Meadowood.

BETTER THAN FRENCH LAUNDRY
I wanted to surprise my wife with a nice dinner since it's our first outing after having a second child. Being the only other 3 Star Michelin rated restaurant in the Bay Area, this was our choice. We were at French Laundry last year for a dinner, and I didn't know how Meadowood would compare...it doesn't get the same hype as French Laundry. But, we were like little kids in this restaurant...just completely amused with the food and presentations, the service, everything. Pricey? Sure. But, you'll find out why.

Nothing short of one of the best meals of my life. Spectacular from start to finish. Not getting the negative reviews.
Do some research and know the portions are tiny, but the presentation and quality are stellar. The staff is charming and knowledgeable, especially loved the amuse bouch. The wine pairings are decadent and perfect. Definitely a very special occasion restaurant.
