My First Choice.
Have enjoyed several luncheons at this restaurant. Food is excellent and so is the service. Can converse with your lunch mates without yelling.

Can't say enough about the food and service! Both of the entries my wife and I had were great. She had the scallops and I had the salmon, both were cooked just perfect. Our server Michael, paced our dinner just right in order to finish in time to make the show we were attending.
I highly recommend this place if your in the area.

We had a great meal here.
We had a great meal here. The flatbread pizza appetizer was outstanding, our fish entrees (haddock with spinach and salmon with horseradish and beets) were very good (if a bit plain), and the dessert (a layered gateaux with raspberry sauce) was terrific. With great service and a moderate noise level (in the room closest to the Boston Common) even on a Saturday night, this was an excellent surprise in Downtown Crossing. We plan to return, and meanwhile, we'd highly recommend it!

Outstanding! We've been meaning to try Petit Robert for over a year now and were surprised to what we were missing out on. It was the perfect night out. The food is amazing. The staff is great. The drinks were excellent. We are looking forward to going back.

My dining companion and I
My dining companion and I started with the Mesclun Salad, which was fantastic. For my main I had the Steak Frittes and was somewhat disappointed. I know that skirt steak cuts are traditionally thin but this cut seemed excessively thin and was more like a piece of jerky. The frittes were just ok - rather bland and could have been tastier if made with herbs.
My companion had the roasted half chicken and was disappointed with the broccoli rabe side.
I closed with an absolutely fantastic creme brulee.

The BLT was PERFECT. Best bread, crispy bacon, fresh tomatoes. The portions of salad and fries were not overwhelming. Definitely will be back--I cant wait to try dinner!

Nice atmosphere, friendly
Nice atmosphere, friendly service, good bistro food... altogether an enjoyable package with a good location, especially for lunch or downtown shopping. In the evening it can be pretty noisy if there is a large group.

Every one of our 8 person group had a terrific meal. I received accolades about my choice for a pre-Opera House event dinner.

Always a great experience
I have eaten at Petite Robert Bistro (here and in the South End) several times, and always enjoyed it. This time, I had a special item that was not on the menu - pork roulade (?). It was pork, stuffed with onions and chorizo. Outstanding dish!

My wife and I were going to a concert and I searched the internet for restaurants in the area at the last minute. We chose Petit Robert and were very happy with the choice. The service was attentive and the food excellent for both our meals and a shared appetizer. I couldn't decide what cocktail to drink and our waitress got the bartender to suggest a couple ideas based on my likes. I would definitely recommend this place to those who want to experience novel tastes and textures of food. Would go again if I'm ever needing a meal in that area of Boston.

loved it - and they loved our kids!
Terrific food and excellent staff who knew what we (and our kids) needed!

Quick and Delicious
I go during the workday so need prompt service. Boy do I get it. I was in and out in less than an hour.
Granted, I'm a semi-regular, so the waitstaff know what I'm probably going to order, but there's something comforting in that, too.
It's an impressive place to bring a client or friend.

Like you were in Paris!
This sweet spot has SO much atmosphere. Taking an escalater up from street side you are transformed into this lovely decorated restaurant. There is a large private dining room along the front of the restaurant which boasts large windows letting in light and overlooking Macy's in downtown. You can watch the hustle of the street below from the tables all along the window. Our water Michael was terrific recommending drinks and favorites. The scallops on squash risotto were amazing as was the pistachio crusted salmon. The staff will pay attention if you are heading to the theatre for a show. This will be my go to spot for dinner in downtown!
5/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was great
All three dishes we had were very tasty, the amount of food is just right and presentation was great too. It was too noisy, a little bit too difficult to talk, but there are other sections of the restaurant where it is not as bad.
5/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great Spot before the Movies
This place was great! Our server was outstanding. It was early because we were heading to a 7pm movie but I have been in for drinks at night too and the bar was very busy. All of our food was very good and we were pleasantly surprised by the bill since went all out! (drinks, wine, apps, desert, espressos)
5/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
great except the lamb
The onion soup, mussels, and souffle were all wonderful, as usual. The lamb top was a bit dry, and the green onion was so tough we cannot chew it at all.
5/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great place for lunch!
If I had any complaint it would be the noise level. Difficult to hear if this is a business meeting. Of course being older and having lost hearing doesn't help. One of my favorite places and well located near subway.
5/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great downtown restaurant
Food is very good, lots of french inspired dishes, service is impeccable.
The temperature in the restaurant was too low, I ask the waiter to raise it but it stayed extremely cold the whole time. I had lunch with my jacket on.
5/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
My beau and I meet here when he's in town. This is one of our favorite places to meet. Great room. smart servers, and excellent food. Plus nice view of downtown.

Fabulous food, top-notch service
Located in Downtown Crossing, Petit Robert Central is a terrific location; no need to park, the subway is across the street. The food was amazing. I had the beet salad to start, made with buttery bib lettuce. My dining companion ordered the escargot, and we used the provided baguette to soak up every bit of the sauce. For an entree, I had the duck, some of the best duck I've ever had. It was super crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, served over a bed of white beans. Also, there were some morsels of thick bacon with it, and I almost wanted to order a whole plate of that alone. My friend had the pork, which he rated very well. For desert, we had Baked Alaska and mousse au chocolate. Our waiter Nick was a real treat.

As always - a terrific meal in a very nice environment.

searching for a quiet table...
The food is so good, the service is wonderful, the location great, that I tried again to have a good lunch here. The room we tried was quieter than the one we had used in the past, but still deafening. Music was loud and so everyone forced to raise their voices to the level of a 747 preparing to take off at Logan. Much better when the waiter turned it down, but if you go here expecting to be able to hold a conversation, then be warned. The polished wood, tile and glass decor looks great, but comes at the expense of conversation.

Very Good Food
I had a wonderful time at Petit Robert Central. I went for lunch with a co-worker and the service was fast and the waitress was very kind. The food was impeccable and I would definitely go again! I ordered the grilled scallops with asparagus and it was delicious. This restaurant is a great find for anyone looking to try something different (french cuisine) and looking to find a quaint spot in the downtown crossing area. It was a lovely dining experience and I am definitely going to go again.

Good food; inconsistent service
Serving personnel are very nice. First course was brought to table before the drinks had appeared, which is par for the course here in terms of service inconsistency. Lots of running around by different members of staff, with no focus on what's happening or not happening at the table. The soup was tasty but served at room temperature, rather than even slightly chilled as it should have been. I like the place and will go back, but they really should work a bit harder to figure out the service given that this is not a fine-dining spot.

First time there
Food was great. Very fresh. Finding the restaurant was tough.

Finished with the Baked Alaska
We had a wonderful server who knew his stuff, was ready with reccomendations, and was on his game. Every dish we has was done perfectly with the deserts balancing everything just right. It is worth the trip just for the Baked Alaska, and made even better by the great food and service!

I brought a client here who had come in from New York. He liked the roast chicken very much. I had the scallops which were outstanding. The service was friendly but slow, and the staff who answered the phone had a tough time giving my client directions from South Station. (He ended up at the Westin and took a cab.) I like to go here before or after a performance at the Opera House, and when clients need to meet in downtown crossing. The pricing is very reasonable, particularly given the quality of the food.

Another Petit Robert
Food is very good. We were there for an early dinner, weekend dinner, so it wasn't crowded. Doesn't have the atmosphere of the Kenmore Square location, but everything else was the same - food, service, menu were all very good. A little confusing to find the entrance on weekends. It's not at 101 Arch, but at 34 Summer!
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went here to meet with a friend. The service was good, waiter friendly and efficient. The drink options were varied enough to make it difficult to choose just one, alas it was a work night. We ate light, the food was excellent. Afterwards we chatted and felt no pressure to 'hurry up and leave' which made the visit doubly delightful. One unusual but welcome discovery were seats at the table that had no line of sight to the televisions at the bar so we were able to eat our meal without distraction.

After Theater Dinner
We went to a Matinee of Wicked and walked over to Petit Robert for dinner. We had a drink at the bar first and the bartender was very nice and friendly and made a mean martini!! We started our meal with the Pate platter and added cheese for a bit extra. It was simply delicious. It came with 3 different pates and 3 cheeses. I could have made it my meal. However, I'm glad I didn't because the beef bourguignon was so tender and tasty. My dinner companions had the lamb, liver and haddock all of whi were all delicious. Love the atmosphere and enjoyed it much more than their location in the South End.

Reasonable prices for upscale feel
Love the limited menu- they don't offer many options but what they offer is excellent. Reasonable prices for upscale feel. Food took too long to arrive (but worth the wait). Noisier than I expected, especially for a lunch meeting. Delicious bread!

Friday at Petit Robert
Enjoyed a tasty lunch with a friend on a Friday afternoon. The food was delicious and the service good. It was crowded so the noise level was a bit robust to start, but it calmed down.m

A satisfying dinner at Petit Robert
Service was very attentive. The oysters came with a variety of accompaniments. Coquille St. Jacques had a rich, delicately flavored, cheese sauce. I'm looking forward to the next time I can dine at Petit Robert Central. There are always menu items which are not available everywhere else, making the restaurant well worth visiting.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
When I ordered something (liver) just to try it, and found I didn't like it (Hey! Taste buds change as we get older!) the staff was super cool about it. It was not a comment on the chef (the rest of my meal was amazing) and had no problem paying for it, but the manager insisted that I accept dessert on the house.
Like I said, the food was fantastic! The service made the experience even better!

pre theater spot recommended
Waiter was attentive to our time needs and everything was competently prepared. Great spot pre theater! Close and efficient.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
great service and good food
Food isn't extremely fancy but it is good and the service is great. Bartender is experienced and has excellent wine suggestions. Full course for two with drinks and tip = 110 $

Convenient to downtown Boston. We went before seeing a play at Paramount Theatre. This is a bistro, not high gourmet. Food is consistently good. Mussels appetizer had fewer mussels than some dishes provide, but cream sauce was a special (and rich) treat. Pork Paillard was excellent. Desserts just OK. Waiter was very attentive. Welcomed us back, stating we hadn't been for a while (good computer tracking; took the trouble to check). Put in extra effort to pack our leftovers in plastic when we said we were going to take them to theater.

It is nice to go for a business lunch and enjoy an interesting menu like this.

Great brunch option downtown
Petit Robert Central is a French bistro that is consistently good and it is the best option for a lunch or brunch in downtown Boston, in my opinion.

Authentic French Bistro
Petit Robert offers real French cuisine at an affordable price. The staff are friendly and efficient, the manager is kind and responsive, and the setting is beautiful--right in the heart of downtown shopping and always ready for the business lunch.

Wonderful meal before a show at the Wilbur. Beautiful ambiance, and the price for what we had compared to the quality was incredible! We had the cheese plate, appetizers, salads, entress, dessert and tea and the whole bill was just under $100. I'm sure it would have been more if we had wine but my BF had a beer and I had a mocktail. Highly recommend it!

Just a perfect night!
Three of us go to the Boston Ballet's The Nutcracker each year and for the last four we ate at the conveniently located, and excellent, Petit Robert Central. We always have a good experience, but this one last Saturday night was out of the park! Our server Yarick was the reason. Charming, professional—he made us feel so special—and his suggestions on wine, and everything in fact, made for a memorable meal. Be sure to ask for his table, one of the ones by the window. We gazed down at Macy's Christmas windows and then danced our way down Washington Street to the ballet.
