Wonderful staff and food
The food was very tasty and fresh from the prix-fixe lunch menu. And the staff was wonderful and very accommodating on a rainy day!

Great food, weak tea
I loved the colorful menu and the execution was flawless - the flavor of each dish was bold and exciting. The staff was friendly and efficient and we had a lovely experience. The only thing that was underwhelming was the Thai ice tea - it was bland and watery, unlike any I've tasted before and I grew up drinking it in Asia & in the US. Otherwise it would've been a perfect meal.

Great as always!
We go to Kin Shop once a month on average. We have never been disappointed with the quality of the cuisine and the service: the flavors are exotic and titillating, the dishes are a very pleasing change from our normal fare, the prices are fair for the value returned, and the service is always pleasant, prompt and accomodating.

Truly creative Thai cuisine and stellar service executed on a flowing teamwork basis. Good wine list. Strongly recommended restaurant.

Awesome Fresh Food Everytime
I have been to Kin Shop a few times, most recently I took my well traveled father and he was very impressed with the fresh and tasty food.

very special place
The food at Kin Shop is really interesting and unusual, expanding one's notion of what Thai food is. Our group shared 4 starters and 3 entrees and every dish was complex and different while being wonderfully delicious. Make sure to get the amazing condiment sampler and some roti to accompany your meal. The service was warm and accomodating, and we sat there for a long time enjoying every course without feeling like they were anxious for us to leave our table, even though there were clearly folks waiting to be seated. One caveat--this would not be an ideal place for kids or others who don't have adventurous palates as there is really nothing "plain" on the menu (though I'm sure they would do their best to come up with something).

Flavor that's subtle and bold?
Is there such a thing? I think so. I recommend the lamb satay appetizer, the goat curry entree and the fried broccoli with Chinese sausage side dish. Well done. Friendly and knowledgeable bartender as well.

I loved everything we tried at Kin Shop and the staff was helpful w recommendations. I had a delicious watermelon beer and it paired well with our noodle and char and broccoli dishes.

Probably the best dining experience I have ever had.

Very interesting menu--never had goat before --delicious --friendly staff--noise level a bit overwhelming-- otherwise a high recommend -

The tasting menu was amazing.
The tasting menu was amazing. Unique food combinations that went together perfectly. A truly outstanding meal. And the wait staff could not have been nicer.

Fun and delicious take on Thai
Maybe it is not 100% authentic Thai, but that's half the fun. With great takes on traditional dishes, like a spicy duck laab, and a concise yet diverse menu, it is hard to go wrong.

A Must Go To spot!
If you like Thai food, you HAVE to try this place! Great menu with fabulous specials, relaxed atmosphere. Good spot for a date night. Service was well-timed and friendly, wine and drinks were affordable.

Not your typical authentic
Not your typical authentic Thai food, but rather innovative and cutting edge.

Amazingly delicious and lovely
Amazingly delicious and lovely service. Really a pleasure to dine here. My friend was reduced to inarticulate "mmm" sounds for about 10 minutes. You might not notice the "tasting of condiments" or might not think it sounds exciting, but get it. It's phenomenal.

Nice, unique Thai
Drinks at the bar before dinner was pleasant. Kin Shop had a nice selecting of interesting cocktails to choose from.
The food itself was delicious. I ha the Thai fried chicken, which is not your normal thai selection, but it was quite tasty. For a side, I got the broccoli and chinese sausage with some sort of plum sauce. The combination of flavors and taste was really quite spectacular.
For dessert I got the ice cream sundae. It was served in a glass with a long spoon, and was not quite as sweet as expected, but it was still a nice finish to the meal.
The wait staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, providing recommendations for drinks, food, and after-dinner entertainment which was spot on.
Overall, value pricing was mid-range.

Kin Shop Hops
Busy, but not frantic, this nouvelle Thai place does a good to great job with most of its offerings. The standouts to us were the salads. The duck laab and oyster/pork belly were both excellent. The Northern Thai noodle curry was a little odd in construction- hardly any noodles and an abundance of sauce and the condiment tasting sample seemed a bit stranded, with nothing to use them on, but as a dip for roti. Still, it would be a good choice for a lite-ish dinner with a little adventure to it...

Excellent Flavors and Service
We had a delicious brunch here this weekend. The dishes were well presented, tasty and the SE asian flavors were authentic, yet playful in a new way. The kitchen was very helpful at modifying some of the spicier dishes to be less for our toddler. The staff were friendly and attentive. A great find. Reasonable prices. We will be back for sure.

SUnday nite dinner: Restaurant week
Kin SHop was a restaurant I had wanted to check out for a while, so took Restaurant week as an opportunity, even tho I am always suspicious of what you may get that crazy week (or two). We ordered everything on the $38 menu, as there were 3 of us, and we were quite delighted with everything we tasted. The sauces were amazing! The beef was a bit dry, the noodles stupendous. The fish amazing. The sorbet out of this world, best ever.
Our waitress was also quite nice, once we had proved our food cred to her.
Thanks for a great meal, we'll be back.

Creative Thai food
Not the regular stuff that you would find in a Thai restaurant. Pretty surprising and good!
7/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good creative cooking
Do not expect traditional Thai Cuisine. This food is the work of a creative chef spending gong some time and effort to create interesting dishes with a Thai palette - and some local ingredients. We enjoyed all of it.

Harold does it again!
I love Perilla and have now started trying Harold's other restaurants.
Kin Shop was so yummy and the service was great! It is definitely a must in the city! Can't wait to go back.
The Marrow is next on the list.

If your looking for a star then try the food here at Kin Shop where the food is definitely the Star. The best sticky rice in the city

Fantastic little restaurant.
Great use of space. Food was fantastic. It contributed to our great New York experience.

A Twist on Thai that pleases
Kin Shop tweaks Thai recipes aningedients in a dleighful way. We had a lovely salad with hearts of palm, baby bibb lettuce and fesh keffier lime leaves in a greenpeppercorn dressing and an hierloom tomato soup with just the right heat. A chicken meatball dish with kale and a lovely sea bream with thia vegetables were both exquisite. A lovely green tea ice cream cookie served as dessert.

Great Food from Harold
The food was absolutely amazing. We had a curry chicken dish, vegatables and rice. The foods flavor and quality was amazing - just the right amount of heat. it was an amazingly good meal. The service was pretty good. While the service wasn't "great" it was no reason to stay away from The Kin Shop. It was very reasonably priced and I will remember it for some time to come.

Always stop at Kin Shop!!
A constant on our monthly visits to the City, Kin Shop just does it all amazingly well. New menu additions - including a wonderful chilled heirloom tomato curry soup - were a highlight. Will return - at least once more this week. Just bring back the fried chicken!
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The best broccoli that I have
The best broccoli that I have EVER had - tempura-fried with plum sauce and Chinese sausage. I will have dreams about that broccoli. The spicy duke salad was also amazing, and the curry noodles were fabulous. This is one of my new NYC favorites!

Tasty Thai-ish food
We enjoyed our dinner - goat, duck w/roti, prawns - but the noise level made conversation impossible. Certainly not "authentic" Thai but there were no pretensions to that. Every dish was tasty, however. Would recommend but the noise level makes that difficult.
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
I was looking for an Asian experience with quality products as opposed to Chinese take out or a fancier version of the same... Well this place did not disappoint ... I thought the dishes were delicious individually ... I don't know if they all belong on the same table at the same time... Waiter could have done a better job spacing out the courses... But again the food was great... Ordered the lobster dish... It was loaded with lobster... It was hard to get a bite without lobster... And it was really tasty as well... Drinks were nothing special... But I would love to go back

Interesting Thai food including goat and lamb. Attentive, friendly service and good prices. AND I love that they serve lunch on weekends and not brunch!

Was good to see Harold in the house that night. Everything was great.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
The massaman curry and sticky rice were absolutely delicious! Service was okay, food was fantastic.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
absolutely wonderful food and service, however, the noise level was deafening! Interesting that the options above for noise level do not include an "unacceptable"!
9/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
great food & lowkey for lunch
having eating at KinShop for dinner and vowed never to return because of the intrusive noise level I was delighted I could still enjoy the food if I went there for lunch instead. Too bad they can't do something about the noise when they're full.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
noise level, food outsanding
while the food was outstandng, epcially appetizers and deserts, the noise level in the restaurant was really intolerable. All surfaces in the restaurant are too hard, and it is impossible to carry out a decent conversation. It really interferes with the dining pleasure.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The goat is NOT to be missed. The steamed duck rice dish was simply good. Check out the condiment tasting and roti, that was delicious. Cocktails were very good.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
From out of town
Everything i tried was amazing except for the Tom Kha. It was mostly broth and needed way more vegetables specially for the price ($12 for a bowl of broth?). Bar service lacked but it seemed as if all the servers on the floor were on point.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Early and often
Kin Shop never fails to deliver - nuanced preparations, vibrant flavors. Wish it was in my neighborhood!

Always uniquely reliable. I look forward to return to try something new

Flavorful and Unique
We ordered the Duck Salad, crab noodles and red snapper. All were delicious and flavorful. A bit on the heavy side so it's better to go in a group to share the dishes.

Second time at Kin Shop and really enjoyed it. The flavors are really interesting and more unique than your average Thai joint. The service is friendly and not overbearing. I love the room - minimalistic and calming.

Wonderful food. Comfortable and informal. A bit too loud when restaurant is full.

It's all about the flavors
flavors you never heard of, never tasted before, and delicious, not simply unusual. And our waiter was so into it all. he even brought us tastes of stuff we considered but didn't order because he thought we'd like to try try them anyway.
11/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
This menu is more unusual than typical Thai food but nothing so strange you don't want to try it. I really ate every bit of my food, I loved both my appetizer and main course. So did my lunch mate. It's a bit pricier than I would regularly spend for lunch but it was convenient, delicious, and had a pleasant vibe. The wait staff was attentive but not overly so. Lovely experience.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
What a deal!
A new $15 set lunch is now available. Nice sized portions, and, as always, delicious.
