Pleasant spot near Union Square
This is my standby for lunch or dinner when I'm in the area. It offers good food in an atmosphere that strikes a nice balance between casual and sophisticated.

Charming dining room. Food flavor was very good. We had Boeuf Bourguignon and the scallops dish. The beef dish was very tasty and plentiful. There were only two scallops but it did come with raviolis. Some dishes I would have liked to try were only available on certain nights so be aware of this before you go. The waitress was attentive and very pleasant. It did get a little warm in the restaurant.

Seems it is my go to place
I have had many out of towners coming to SF. The feel of this restaurant is so European in feel and it is bustling with people from all over the world and different cultures.
Great food, good wine, good time by all.

We arrived at 5:30, right when the dining room opened. Waitress and staff were perfectly attentive, not rushed or too slow. Food was exquisite.
I would go back!

This corner cafe is a great place to watch shoppers and tourists on a sunny day, at an outside table or through the large windows. At noon it was busy but service was fine. Very small tables, close together, so don't go for an intimate conversation. The Salade Nicoise was very good. Sparkling water a little pricey at $9 but you're paying for the ambience, too.

Good for breakfast
Enjoyed the omelette with spinach as well as the salmon Benedict. Both were very flavorful. Would definitely come back again.

A Relaxed Breakfast
We were in SF for the weekend and meeting a friend for breakfast on Father's Day. We had an 8:30 a.m. reservation but arrived at 8 with only half our party. They accomodated us with a table and let us read the paper and drink coffee without interruption for over half an hour. Very relaxing. The rest of our party arrived and we had excellent service. The breakfast items were served promptly (almond croissant--very good!) We did not feel rushed during our entire visit. We would return. The restaurant has a great bistro ambience.

A Little Bit of Paris
Perfect French brunch with cafe au lait. You can also read your favorite French magazine from the shelf. Friendly service.

This restaurant is a gem backed up

Perfect place to dine and take in the sights.

Delicious Dollop of Paris
The dining room is a delight, the food is super-fresh, some of the servers are superb. Ask for what you want, and your wish may well be granted. My favorites: salade niçoise; quinoa salad; eggs benedict with salmon instead of ham. At least LOOK at the dessert menu – the Opéra cake is surprisingly light, perfect to share; the croissant pudding confection, with ice cream and sauces!, also perfect to share. I am going back for breakfast this morning – second time this week!
6/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
been there every time I travel to SF and every time it's great, both for breakfast and dinner

There is no other restaurant
There is no other restaurant in the Union Square area that produces reliably delicious food at such a reasonable price. It is my "go-to" place in that part of town, and friends who I send there never fail to enjoy themselves.

An evening in France!
Going to Cafe de la Presse was like being back in Paris. The waiters, the food, the interior design of the restaurant are exactly like a restaurant in France, and we loved it! Especially notable were the pate de campagne ( made in-house) and the "pudding", a bread pudding made from croissants topped with hazlenut ice cream and chocolate sauce for dessert. Totally delicious!

This is our second time Dinning at Cafe de la Presse - the first time was a year ago - the quality of service and dinning experience was consistent and excellent - we will be back again

Fabulous Food and Great Service
I dream of coming back to Cafe de la Presse and have their duck confit. Great selection of wine and desserts. The wait staff is always professional.
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a very nice time. Food was very good and the ambiance was very nice. Both duck dishes were exceptional.

Great little brunch
We enjoyed the food here. The servings were generous. Nothing out of this world, but definitely a tasty Saturday morning brunch. Our waitress was also terrific as was the other staff.

Went here while on vacation
Went here while on vacation in SF. A very nice find, pleasant atmosphere and very good food. The classic steak frites and the duck confit were both delicious. A little pricey perhaps, but not way out of line for a nice place in SF.

Great food and service
The restaurant its great. Very friendly and the service was excellent and the food as well. Not pricy for what you get.

Had dinner for the 1st time at Cafe de la Presse with my wife and another couple. Food was outstanding. Reasonably priced as well. Good wine list and excellent service. Would definitely go back. Want to try breakfast as well sometime, perhaps outdoors.

Always good, always reliable
A neighborhood French restaurant that gets it right. The food, service, and ambiance are consistently good, and very French.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
I tried rabbit for the first time and it was an amazing experience at Cafe de la Presse! My friend had the duck and I enjoyed that, too. We started with Gin & Tonics and those were done well. We had cabernet (his was California, mine was French) and each was the perfect complement to our meals. The two main drawbacks were the waitress and the heat. Our waitress seemed timid and it was hard to tell if she was new at the job or just didn't like us. It was very strange. And it was pretty warm in the restaurant and our water wasn't refilled often. But I would definitely go again!

Love this place!
My wife and I have been here many times for coffee and a glass of wine, and we recently had the opportunity for a Saturday evening dinner. We had a lovely experience - well executed dishes in what I would call a sort of "relaxed French" style, excellent service by a staff of smart, warm people, and a very inviting dining room. Our server, David, could not have been better. I highly recommend Café de la Presse.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Came here to celebrate my dad's birthday with my girlfriend! This restaurant fits with the term "Surprise Me" Neither of them expected the delicious food and the reasonably priced amazing wine menu! C'est Tres Bon!!

Nice, casual bistro
Friendly, decent food, decent service. Will go back.

Good moderate French restaurant.
Good moderate French restaurant. Staff very friendly and helpful. Tables far enough apart for privacy and reduced noise. Tried rabbit for the first time following knowledge of our server. Excellent!

I love Cafe de la Presse. It has a delightful ambience and the food was great cafe fare. Everything about it made it a lovely evening. and we look forward to going back.

Our favorite place in San Francisco
Cafe de la Presse is our favorite restaurant in the City. The food and service is excellent and you get a real sense of 'Paris' in the cosmopolitan setting and atmosphere. Great for any meal during the day. An easy walk from the Montgomery Street BART station for those of us from the East Bay.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Really liked the poached eggs with mushrooms. Also liked the granola with fruit and yogurt. Great Bloody Marys.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Perfect for lunch or dinner
This is one of my favorite spots in San Francisco. The bistro atmosphere is fun and very "French ". Great wine list with prices in all ranges. The Croque Madame is my go- to favorite.

A light taste if France
Was looking for a place to get a light but tasty lunch before a theatre show.
Had been past Cafe de la Presse on the way to/from China Town many times and decided to try it.
Booked same day via OpenTable as we were on schedule to get to the theatre, and glad we did, as several people were
turned away as we arrived. Seated immediately in the dining room. Very nice with white table cloths and
good French Bistro menu items, decor and atmosphere. Service was good and timely. Food was very good. Prices reflect
the location and quality, but reasonable. Overall, good experience all round and will go there again!
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
we have been going to cafe de la presse for years when we lived in east bay, now that we are out of state, its a good place to go back to. there is a constant on the quality of the food. the menu could vary a little bit more but everything is fabulous. mid week dinner not as crowded which is nice. lunches are great also. prices are fair.

5 Stars for Cafe de La Presse
Not overly crowded and the layout is done well. The waiter arrived 10 seconds after I had seated myself. Acknoweldged me pleasantly. He did not feel rushed/ intense. Very calm making his rounds to the tables. Water was poured in advance. We decided to split a Sandwich Club au Poulet. The servings were heavy. Grilled lemon thyme on a lightly marinated chicken breast I have not had a sandwich well done like that in a very long time. The Ciabatta Bread, I wish I ordered a side of. Fresh, light and just the right amount of filling. The House salad on the side was just as excellent. Fresh, light, and a light touch of dressing. The service is admirable. The waiters are timely. I will continue to recommend all my guests here.

A really great experience.
A really great experience. I had been to Cafe de la Presse for a quick lunch but this was the first time for dinner. Attentive (but not intrusive) service, good food, a good bottle of wine. I ate the roast chicken, my husband had the gnocchi. We will certainly go back again.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
This restaurant felt like a day in Paris! We went for Sunday Brunch. We started with fabulous cocktails and then went to glasses of wine. The offerings were both breakfast and lunch. We split the French toast, quiche, and eggs with mushrooms in a rich broth. So good! Fabulous atmosphere with great service. You can't go wrong. Will definitely be back!

Great location and ambiance
Cafe de la Presse is smack in the heart of the Union Square/Chinatown area making it well situated both for visitors and for locals who can park in the Sutter/Stockton garage a block away. The restaurant has a warm ambiance, attentive waitstaff and good food.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
It was a nice brunch near china town.A different style with STARBUCKS across street. Wont forget the moment!

Good setting for a nice meal near Union Square. Enjoyed the food and menu selections.

Couldn't have been nicer!
A group of us gathered who'd not seen each other in years and enjoyed a lovely brunch. The truly outstanding part was that they let us keep the table and keep talking long after our plates had been cleared. True, coffee refills were a little slow in coming and we did notice that after the brunch crowd had cleared they had plenty of tables, it was the graciousness with which they allowed up to enjoy our reunion that was just lovely.
I'd go back in a heartbeat. Especially also because I missed trying one of their almond croissants!

Go-To Lunch Spot for Out-of-Towners
Cafe de la Presse offers a great location to meet out-of-town friends who don't come to the city very often. The location offers Stockton Sutter parking, walking distance to Union Square, Chinatown, FiDi, etc., and is in itself a destination. It feels like you could be in a French bistro- especially since there are many French patrons. The food is fresh and delicious and approachable (tho a little pricey- but look where you are!). The salad nicoise is really, really good.

My favorite La Presse
This is my go to restaurant for breakfast or lunch if I'm nearby. The food is yummy and I love the casual environment and especially the Parisian feeling. I went with my husband and 2 good friends for breakfast. Our servers were energetic and super friendly. The menu for breakfast hits all of the basics. The coffee is delicious. My only complaint was the attempt to seat us at the worst table in the back room when the place was empty - the one across from the door - I know I've been seated there before. If the place were packed I would understand!
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Cafe de la Presse is good
Cafe de la Presse is good French food at very reasonable prices. It's cozy and authentic. The service is friendly and efficient. It's a great place to stop after shopping or plan to meet friends for a leisurely dinner. It continues to be a favorite place in the city.
11/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
Breakfast was nice. The French
Breakfast was nice. The French toast and pancakes were nice as well as the poached eggs on toast with red wine sauce and mushrooms. Noise level was low and we were able to hold conversation comfortably. Our table was in the back so it was a bit dark but other times we have been closer to the windows so it was brighter and nicer for a morning meal.

A slice of Paris in San Francisco
Café de la Presse is a remarkably charming and authentic French café in the heart of San Francisco's Union Square shopping district and was perfect for my recent business meeting over breakfast. The ambiance evokes an authentic French café experience with sharp, attractive decor (nothing dowdy or "frilly") and even a section selling French and other newspapers and magazines (hence the "de la Presse" in the name). The breakfast/brunch menu includes both authentically French fare (e.g. omelettes, croissants) and California cuisine (e.g. yogurt / granola parfaits). The coffee is outstanding, and fortunately, the café honors the American tradition of the bottomless cup. I can highly recommend this place!

It was a cute little cafe
It was a cute little cafe that was surprisingly very good. Their menu featured so many great options, the food was delicious, and the servers were extremely friendly. You could tell they all knew their stuff. They knew what they were doing and they could explain any dish on the menu. It was a nice, romantic atmosphere on one side and a quaint little cafe on the other.

Great French Bistro
I live in the neighborhood. I wish I got to this restaurant more often! Food really is great. High energy street scene as well.

I brought my family and family
I brought my family and family friends visiting from Greece and Canada and they loved the restaurant; the decor and the vibrant atmosphere helped a lot. Everyone loved their food choices and I even returned the next morning for breakfast with some of my family. The atmosphere here is overall enjoyable anytime of the day.
