The food was great. The server
The food was great. The server was nice. Overall it was loud and service was slow. Not the waiter's fault. He was very busu. The food was great. Would definitely recommend this place.

The service was outstanding
The service was outstanding and so were the Happy Hour specials. The only glitch was that they didn't check me in correctly because I had reserved on Open Table. Other than that, it was great.

A good option
We visited James Joyce before seeing a show at the Lyric so it was fairly early (around 5pm). The location was perfect, very easy to get to if you are staying in Harbor east or even visiting. The food was delicious (I had Oysters and Lamb Stew) and a large beer selection. The place was lively but not so loud you had to yell across the table. It is very large inside, not a small Irish Pub but it wasn't a big open space. It still felt quant. Overall a great place for a large group and an enjoyable experience.

This was our first time to your restaurant but will not be our last. We were greeted by Bryan who was most accommodating about my request for a quiet table. Sam, our waitress, was a true delight, bubbly personality, attentive to detail and just a really nice person. We all thoroughly enjoyed our fish and chips and lamb stew. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening.

First things first, ask for Brian to be your server. He was awesome. Definitely order the mussels, get a JJ Amber and and Irish Coffee for dessert. The food was great, we had a blast and the live music was really fun. Highly recommend!!!

I had reserved a table for
I had reserved a table for 6 for a certain time on a busy Saturday afternoon in the city, and when the function my group had been attending was running long, I was worried that I would lose my reservation. The staff at James Joyce couldn't have been nicer or more gracious about accommodating the changes in schedule, and were extremely hospitable. It was a great dining experience...the food was very good and the atmosphere was welcoming. Our wait staff was friendly and efficient, and the entire time was the perfect end to a busy Baltimore day. I would suggest James Joyce to anyone looking for a good Baltimore eating experience!

This place was actually pretty good despite the slow start! The crowd didn't start coming until after dark, so the atmosphere was a little slow for a pub. Once people started making their way in, though, it was a lively place.
My mom and I went in to have a drink and grab some dinner. To start, we split an entree salad (spinach with berries, almonds, and goat cheese) and the fish tacos. Both were pretty good, but it was the salad that really stood out, to me. For our main courses, I had the lamb burger which was DELICIOUS and mom had the crab cakes which were basically pure crab!
Overall, the food was great, the scene was lively, and we even got to watch our beloved Miami Heat beat the Pacers!

Good comfort food
We loved the decor; it's a cozy place but too noisy
To have a conversation. The buffalo chicken wings
Were served warm but they were tasty - just hot enough.
Fish and chips and lamb stew were very tasty and the portions
Are big. The James Joyce ice cream is a must have. It is awsome! Our waiter was very friendly and attentive.
Overall a good place to have a hearty meal at a fair

Great little spot
It is a great little spot with good food, service and atmosphere.

Good Start to Father's Day
Cozy spot and excellent Irish breakfast especially the sausage. Omelet was equally good.
The Belgian Waffle was a little disappointing in that there was as much non-waffle food on the plate as waffle.

My fiance and I have lived in Baltimore for 3 years, and James Joyce has always been special to us (first place we went to after we moved to Bmore). We decided it'd be fitting to go there for our last night too. We mentioned that it was a special night, and asked to be seated somewhere a little bit set apart. They seated us in a booth we didn't know existed, and it was perfect! Quiet, but not too quiet. And our waitress was amazing. Very attentive, but not interrupting or checking in too often. She always managed to come by right when we needed another drink, and was really nice to us. Overall, this place is great and you should check it out if you want great pub food, great beers, and great atmosphere.

Excellent food. The salmon
Excellent food. The salmon appetizer was beautifully presented & delicious. The potato soup was hearty & authentic. The lamb burger was fabulous & done perfectly to order. The corned beef & cabbage was wonderful too- again very authentic. The sauce that was served with the corned beef also went very well with the lamb burger- maybe offer that in the future? Very efficient, friendly waitress. The noise level was high as there was a crowd in the bar area when we arrived so it was difficult to converse. Lovely decor.

Love the potato soup here. Easy to park and walk or do valet, so not the usual pain of going downtown- worth it!

I enjoyed the atmosphere, quiet outdoor with a normal noise level for six pm in the tourist district. Food was decent, service was decent.

Amazing Irish Fare
We had the fish and chips, the Guinness Beef Stew, and shepherd's pie. All very good! For those trying to decide between the shepherd's pie and the Guinness Beef Stew, we voted for the beef stew by a slight margin as better. They have an excellent happy hour menu as well. We were all completely stuffed - it was so good!

Great Irish restaurant
Great food, great drinks, great service! Makes me miss Dublin!

I made an open table reservation- I'm always leery of actually getting seated on time. We arrived right on time during the dinner rush on a Friday at 7:45. I heard other hopeful patrons grumbling about wait times for tables and I thought "oh no!"
But when I spoke to the host, he asked my name, pulled up the info and we were seated immediately! Our waiter was friendly and on time with drinks and our food. The bangers and mash entree was priced right, flavorful and expertly presented.

I want the recipes!
I had the Guinness Beef stew and the Irish brown bread. What a fabulous meal! I'd love to be able to recreate it, but guess I'll have to wait for my next trip to Baltimore.

The menu had so many inviting
The menu had so many inviting choices and everything we chose was delicious--the lamb stew, the corned beef and cabbage, the fish and chips and the crab meat salad. We also enjoyed the Irish nachos as an appetizer. We will definitely be going back again!

I took a chance on the corned beef and cabbage. I like that dish although I normally find the cabbage to be soggy and uninspired. Not at James Joyce's! The cabbage was perfect, the corned beef succulent and not too salty and to top it off the gravy (that I spread over the whole meal) was so flavorful I nearly licked out the little tub it came in. My hubs gave me a bite of the fish from his fish and chips meal and that was out of this world good, too. And I got a hard cider on tap that was clear and crisp and refreshing. We'll be coming here again.

Great Irish Pub
I had Bangers and Mash and my freind had Fish and Chips - both were the best I've ever had. Beer selection was large and reasonable -- a really great choice

Very friendly and pleasant staff. We had the spinach and crab dip to start, I wouldn't get it again. Didn't take much like either one, kind of bland. Main courses were great and very reasonably priced. Made a reservation with a note that it was for my boyfriend's birthday, the hostess and our waitress made sure to acknowledge that and they gave him dessert. Overall, I definitely would go back. Beautiful inside, great food and staff.
