Loved this restaurant! We came here because of the Dinning Out event in San Francisco and I recommend it to everyone. Food was great and the service was fantastic. We were an hour early for our reservation and everyone was so accommodating and were able to seat us right away. Great hidden gem!

I was looking for a great neighborhood restaurant and this place is awesome. The food and service were outstanding. The concept is shared plates which allows you to try several dishes. We had both the tuna and the shrimp appetizers as well as the halibut (daily fish special) and skirt steak for entrees. The dishes came out perfectly timed so as we finished one, the next one arrived. For dessert, you HAVE to have the flourless chocolate cake...light, fluffy and wonderfully delicious.

We returned for the first time in a couple of years. Food and service are still outstanding. The prix-fixe menu served during the week is a great buy, but the a la carte menu has more options. The Yellowfin Tuna appetizer, Scallops, and Risotto were all excellent, as was the semifreddo dessert.

I've passed Isa a number of times and it wasn't until a friend recommended it that I made a reservation this week. Wow! The food was absolutely delicious. They offer a fresh, creative menu with a wide variety for both veggies and meat eaters. Everything we had was amazing and would definitely recommend the potato wrapped sea bass, grilled octopus and sea of cortez prawns. They also offer a happy hour with $5 wines that were surprisingly good.

2nd Visit and Still Great
This was a second visit, but the last was 2 years ago. It was as good as I remember. I love the small plate concept and sharing with everyone. You don't have to share, but it makes for an enjoyable evening. The service was excellent, and I will not wait 2 years to return!

Awesome dinner, great service
We ate here before a concert. We had a reservation for 5:00pm. We were the only people in the restaurant so we had great service from the get go. Domingo, the server, was awesome. We started with a butter lettuce salad which was delicious. We then had the potato wrapped sea bass which was cooked to perfection. The last piece was the mushroom risotto which was also very good. For dessert I had the grapefruit granite which was tasty. My friend ordered the flourless chocolate cake which was great!! I definitely would eat here again when I'm back in SF!!

Great food for group dinners
Excellent food and service for a company dinner. Would definitely return.
6/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food! Menu could be updated.
The flavor is terrific (though my MR steak was underdone and raw in the center) I've been to Isa 3 times in as many years and as far as I can tell, perhaps with the exception of some seafood items, the menu has barely changed. The menu was even dated "02/13".

Great Food & People / Service
I had a business dinner with 10 people, including a successful CEO as our guest host, and 9 MBA from around the country. The Isa food was terrific, and working with the owners prior to the event, and the staff during the event was seamless. I will go back for sure. Thank you. -Pete

The small plates format for sharing is delightful to give diners the opportunity try different menu items. We had the potato wrapped scallops, the rack of lamb and the sea bass. All selections were cooked to perfection with succulent veggies and juices. Service was excellent and cordial. We sat in the front that was cozy and quiet. We previously sat in the back where the dining area is more open, a bit louder, but with great ambiance. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a relaxing and very satisfying meal. We've dined at Isa's many times and it's always a wonderful and delicious dining experience.
7/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was a wonderful place. The food was incredible especially since it was made from scratch.
7/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Friend and I fought over where to eat, gksd I won. The crab mango salad was excellent and the heirloom tomatoe was so fresh. The spaghetti was like none other. Can't wait to come back.

Second time at Isa. Food was excellent, as it was the first time. Table was ready for us upon arrival and service was attentive but not overbearing.

Everything was good!
I don't think I've gone to a restaurant where I thought everything our group ordered was exceptional, but that is what happened when I went to Isa. My favorites were the Yellowfin Tuna (appetizer), Potato wrapped Seabass, and the duck. We also were celebrating a birthday and they brought out something that looked similar to a chocolate souffle. I forgot what it was called, but it was amazing.
I also really enjoyed the bread that they served. Our group must have gone through 6 or 7 baskets of the bread. It was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. It was also great that we didn't notice them replacing the baskets as the service was excellent!
I can't wait to come back and try other items on their menu!

We went to Isa on a recommendation and were wonderfully surprised. We dined early so got lots of attention from Dean, our outstanding waiter. We followed his recommendations, both in food and wine ($5 a glass before 7 pm), and couldn't have been more pleased. They say they serve small plates, but we are all big eaters and had plenty with some even to take home. Everything was superbly fresh and cooked to perfection. A great experience! We will definitely return the next time we are in the City.

Really enjoyed our meal here.
Really enjoyed our meal here. Creative and delicious. Vodka was a fun new try for my husband - he loved it. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a different experience with fun meal. This is a hidden gem as it looks very simple in decor but thiey have put the money in the menu and the cooking and wait staff. Can/t wait til I can return.
7/22/2013 5:00:00 PM
The food here is always great. And the service at just the right level of attention. The only small thing that could have been better was a more gracious host...this one seemed a bit tense.
Will continue to eat here! I love the chicken.

This was my 2nd time at Isa and, like the first, I was not disappointed. The prix fixe menu is very affordable and offers a great variety. Three of us had the prix fixe and my husband ordered a la carte, but we shared everything (which is encouraged). The wait person suggested that my husband order an extra lamb chop so that there would be one for each of us. Our favorites were the baked goat cheese and mussels as appetizers, the flat iron steak and chicken as entrees and the semifreddo and grapefruit granite as dessert. I was a bit disappointed that the creme brulee was not offered as a prix fixe dessert this time (it was the first time I visited). My husband's heirloom tomatoes and lamb chops were fantastic, too. Great service, too!

terrific menu, excellent value
our party of 4 would gladly return. everything we ordered was delicious, carefully prepared and thoroughly enjoyed. the menu is not bleeding-edge, but the flavors are strong, clean and simple. the concept of family-style service (dishes meant to be shared and served when the kitchen has them ready) doesn't fully gel with the dishes themselves (in terms of portioning or shareability), but we just viewed this as a minor quirk. it certainly didn't prevent our enjoying our meal. service is also a bit family-style: the staff occasionally step on each others' toes, but in the end this too comes across more as earnest than as amateurish. in a city where it's easy to drop many hundreds of bucks on a weeknight, isa offers excellent value for money.

Great Food but Small Portions
Overall this is a great place. Just keep in my that it small plates meant to be shared. This worked well for me, because i am a nibbler but my husband was still hungry afterward. He loved the food and thought it was delicious just was not a large enough meal for him.
Let's break down the menu:
Heirloom tomato salad: supper yummy and perfectly seasoned
salmon carpaccio: good not great
Potato wrapped Seabass: best seabass we ever had! really good
Maple leaf farm duck breast: I don't really like duck but it was good.
Flourles s chocolate cake, vanilla bean gelato: OK

I absolutely love Isas and love to bring good friends for a special evening!

First time there. It was perfect. Great service, food and ambience. This will become a regular fixture.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food! Dean was a great waiter
I was nervous that we booked this last minute on OT. Would it be good? Definitely exceeded expectations. We will return soon.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
ISA serves all food family style, which means a single serving plate is placed in the center of the table for all to taste if so chose.
The food is very good with special seasoning and presentation. Corkage fee is $20. Price fixed dinner is a very good deal but portions are not large which may be a benefit to some. This does not apply to the deserts which were both large and excellent.
9/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
excellent food served by helpful and pleasant staff
9/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
nice place for wine and small plates; enough to go around, dont have to fight over the goodies. We got the couple at the next table to try the lovely new Zealand sauv blanc on the happy hr menu. they also tried the yellow tail filet special. For me the best thing was the truffle risotto. wow, rich, creamy, nice firm risotto; yummy! my partner had the semifreddo all'amaretto dessert that our previous table neighbors ooh'd and ahh'd over, cold and creamy. I had the buche au laid de chevre-goat cheese w/anise honey and candied walnuts with a nice latte. We plan to return the next trip to SF it will be our default gorm; and right next to our hotel, don't have to drive, yay!
9/6/2013 5:00:00 PM
We have had many versions of mushroom risotto, but Isa's has been the best we've ever had. Their seabass encrusted in potato was outstanding and the desserts were also. Definitely return to this culinary delight.

Re-visiting a old favorite
Had dinner there on a Friday night. Quite a hot spot still. Hadn't been there for at least 6 years. Food is still great. Service was a little slow. It took a while for a hello what would you like to drink. Once we did order the food came it was fine. The ambiance was nice. I did notice it was unusually loud. I had a friend visiting and took her to dinner. It was hard to talk. I kept asking her to repeat herself.
The food was great as I remembered. We had the tuna, prawns, mussels, risotto and sea bass. All yummy!!!
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
We order dishes to share with the group. This gave us a wide variety of dishes to taste. The dish portions allowed all 5 of us an ample sampling. The variety of tastes and dish selections were excellent.

Lively, small plate SF restaurant
We all liked the atmosphere of ISA - had a energetic feel to it. Food was terrific, well prepared, flavorful and good presentation. Everything from the fresh seafood to the well prepared risotto and the tender duck breast. There wasn't a dish we did not like.
Although we opted not to share the first and second courses, we did share two delicious desserts - creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake. I am sure we will be back to this Marina neighborhood gem!!
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Consistent high quality food.
Isa is my got to restaurant in San Fran when there on business. The 3 course fixed menu is a great value. Truffle risotto is outstanding. Service was sparse due to waiter being stretched too far.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
I came for my birthday and was treated like I was the only table in the restaurant! Delicious food and fantastic service.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I really enjoyed Isa. The wait staff seemed to be spread too thin, but our waiter did a great job of serving us well and we had a great time. The food was amazing and we will definitely be back again.

Best service in San Francisco!
First and foremost, the food is superb! We had a butter lettuce salad, an arugula salad, the scallops, the seabass, and for dessert the creme brûlée. The creme brûlée is comparable to the best you'll find in Paris! Every bite delicious! The experience was made wonderful by the best waiter. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and totally upbeat. At first we thought he was the owner. His name is Dean! All the waiters and wait staff work like a team. Great experience! Isa needs to move up on the trip advisor ratings.
9/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great New Find!
We really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. The tapas style sharing was a great way to try more items. Table for two was close to others.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best dinner ever!
I've lived in SF for decades, and the dinner that we had at ISA was one of the best I've ever ha the pleasure of having. The food was off the chart (sea bass, caprese salad, paeila all amazing). It is our go-to restaurant for guests and they have all been very impressed. The neighborhood is fun to walk through after your feast at ISA!

Dinner with Parents
The food was fabulous and we had a great time. Our waiter was very energetic and had good recommendations.
10/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delightful dining experience
There were five of us at a round table in the back. We all shared five appetizers and had our own entrees. Everything in good ample portions. We shared two creme brulees and two chocate cakes with gelato as well. Scalops excellent, veal sweetbreads divine, truffle risotto excellent as well. If it wasn't for the fact that we live in Oakland, I'd want to go there as often as I could!.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
had a wonderful time. third
had a wonderful time. third time i've been there. everytime the waiter, busboy and hostess were all going above and beyond on giving us great service. The tuna appetizer was fresh, fresh, fresh. The bass wrapped in potatoe was delicious & the best dish was the lamb shank with chard. my friend who is a foodie really enjoyed the food and the restaurant. she couldn't believe how fresh the food was and how good it all tasted.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great affortable french food
A college and I dine there the other night. We were happily surprised. The menu had a good variety of dishes and all we order was delicious. The calamari was cook to perfection. The Yellow Tail tuna was moist and tasty. Drinks are discounted before 7pm. Our waitresses were polite and knowledgeable about the food, therefore very helpful.
In sum, if visiting SF we will go again for sure.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, slow service
I love Isa. I go there repeatedly despite the fact that every time I've gone, the service has been less than stellar. It's a testament to the quality of their food that makes me come back.
You can't go wrong with anything you order here, period.
Service is really really slow Sometimes you wait forever for your server to refill your water, bring you your drink, or get you anything else. Last time we went, my husband ordered a drink at the beginning of the meal and ended up getting it at the end of dessert.
Kitchen timing is a little wonky as well. We were a group of 6 and ordered different things, which all came out at drastically different times. Some of us were finishing our main course when others just had their appetizers delivered!
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Had dinner on a Sunday night with 2 friends this past week at Isa. We ordered from the prix fix menu which gives 3 courses for $22, a great deal. I had salmon carpaccio, flat iron steak and a cheese course. Everything was very good, the place was packed and the pace of service was good, but a bit haphazard. Nice cocktail choices from the bar and a decent wine list.
It's in the Marina so parking is a pain. If you plan on parking in a metered lots, bring several dollars in quarters!
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our return visit was very pleasant. The waitstaff and servers were extremely thoughtful and wonderful!! We ordered from the prix fixe menu. The mussels were the best out of the whole meal.
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Delightful as always
Isa is a definite neighborhood gem and a go-to for special occasions or when people visit. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic evening or a girls night. Each dish is unique and delicious and the service is top notch!
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
We all liked our dishes very
We all liked our dishes very much. Fresh and seasonal. We ordered almost everything on the menu for our group of 6. Stand outs were the grilled squid, sole, seabass wrapped in potato, duck confit. They do need to improve in their dessert menu though. The cheese plates were better.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was excellent! The potato crusted sea bass was so delicious as well as the sweetbreads. I will return next time in San Francisco.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
A lot noisier than other times
A lot noisier than other times I have been here, but the food was wonderful, as always.
My dining companions were not altogether about sharing with the large group.
12/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
My entire party of 7 were all happy with the food and ambiance. Definitely will return!
12/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
So pleased with ISA!
Our experience at ISA was great! We were late for our rez due to trouble getting a cab. In spite of being very busy, they still accommodated us, even speeding up service so that we could get to the theater on time. The wait staff was very attentive and professional without being stuffy. The hostess went around the tables making sure people were happy. The good is fantastic!
