The food did not disappoint. the salt and pepper Dungeness crab rocks! Always high quality and interesting dishes. Service was the downfall, or at least our waiter was. He was uninformed, disinterested and got our order wrong. However, The flying fish will always be a favorite in spite of it.

I love the way the menu is
I love the way the menu is so flexible. I was able to combine two dishes to get a fabulous beet salad with a delectable piece of Steelhead. The fish was cooked to perfection. The waiter was also nice about splitting a dessert except that I really like it when the staff actually splits it. He probably didn't want to ruin the lovely presentation so I really can't fault him for it. The ambiance is relaxed, the vibe - very downtown and the food quite good.

Salt and Pepper Crab
This place was recommended by a friend who lives in Seattle. The crab was out of this world. The waitress warned me that it was a lot of work. It was worth it. The others in our party ordered fish and steak. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

well done, good food that was prepared with skill, good service. would recommend.

Good for a casual business dinner
I hosted a group of 10 for a casual business dinner, and everyone came away satisfied with their meal and experiece at Flying Fish. The Mahi Mahi in the tomatillo sauce was incredible. We also enjoyed the calimari and poke for appetizers. Others gave high remarks for the scallops and Ahi tuna. Great, attentive service in a fun, casual atmosphere.

Hasn't changed yet
When I heard that Flying Fish had been sold I rushed to make a reservation. I was please to see that nothing has changed yet. Both appetizers and 1 of 2 entrees were superb. The other entree was meerly very good. As always the warm grappa brownie is the best chocolate dessert in town.
Keep your eye out over the next 6 months or so to what changes the new owner implements.

Another wonderful dinner at
Another wonderful dinner at this outstanding restaurant. We always eat at the Flying Fish when in Seattle and this time did so with 5 friends from New York. No trouble making a reservation directly with the restaurant -- a very comfortable table in the back. Perfect for conversation. The service was outstanding, the food was well prepared and tasty, and the bill was reasonable. We'll be back the next time we are in Seattle.

Good food, but too loud for busines
I held a meeting at Flying Fish for five individuals, several of whom were in their eighties. While the food was delicious and the service was great, I would not recommend using this venue for a business lunch. High ceilings, exposed duct work and lots of windows are all visually interesting, but make it next to impossible to hear the person sitting across the table from you when the restaurant is full.

Small plate heaven
There were 3 of us- 2 shared the small area and my husband had an outstanding rendition of cioppino. 4 plates were enough to share and the best was the poke. The oyster Caesar sounds better than it is but don't miss the ceviche. Prices seem a tad high but the freshness is top notch. Loved the WA state wines, too

Enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Flying Fish for a birthday celebration. The wait staff was excellent, attentive and knowledgable. Our waiter made some excellent recommendations that our table enjoyed. The food was plentiful, fresh, well prepared, reasonably priced, and delicious. There was a variety of options (from small plates to entrees, seafood, meats, and vegetarian). The atmosphere was perfect - not too loud, but warm and inviting. Our booth was spacious, but not too large - so it still felt intimate. The decor is clean, warm, modern. We would definitely recommend to others and return to Flying Fish next time we are in Seattle.

Very good seafood
Good fresh fish and shellfish, imaginative Thai twist to the menu, but not overpoweringly so. The fish was cooked to a turn ie somewhere between seared and well cooked so was perfect for us and not dry and overlooked as can so often happen.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
While the food was delicious, it was our server who made the experience a success. He was very helpful in selecting a delicious mix of platters to share, then entrees to enjoy individually. He played to the group dynamic very well. I am very grateful for his input.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The menu was unique, and the food was excellent. The service is very good, but a little slow. A different person would bring you each dish, but one person seemed responsible for the table. It was clever, but our drinks were not refreshed other than the water. Maybe the person in charge of that was off that night. Overall, it was excellent and well worth a visit.

The food was great! The ambience
The food was great! The ambience is a little too industrial for my taste, but is probably in style with the younger crowd who live and work in the area. We were happy to see the restaurant fill up on a Tuesday night for both happy hour and dinner. Got a little noisy as the evening went on, which is usually a sign that everyone is having a good time!
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great seafood joint
Great seafood, which is surprisingly rare in Seattle - always very fresh. Was given a great wine suggestion, and the right amount was chosen for our group entree. Great service, room, and seating choices.

I expected good...it was better
Flying Fish is a fantastic find for this Bay Area foodie. The key is to accept fully the chef's creations. Don't Meg Ryan it by insisting on a load of my way special orders. Save that for Burger King. Here, put your faith in the chef's hands.
Thai infused crab cake was first. Then Opah that-layer by layer-was nondescript (crab meat on avocado on fish on saffron rice). But taken as forkfuls of strata it all came together. An "ah-hah" moment. The Ling Cod with bok choy and soba? Asian fusion, I get it. But the execution was top notch. Extra kudos for the huckleberry strawberry puree'd passionfruit cheesecake. Telling you how the chef co-mingled the huckleberry and strawberry would need a spoiler alert. And the sake flight was fun.

Transplanted from Belltown -Awesome
From recognition of past patronage at the door, to the same excellent food and service, Flying Fish has stood the test of time and mobility! It remain one of our favorites!
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
a bit pricy, but good
I met a date for dinner there on a Thursday night. It was quite noisy considering there were very few people seated near us. The service was absolutely wonderful! The cioppino, had good flavor, though some of the fish seemed a bit overcooked. My date seemed to enjoy her dish. It was a pleasant experience, but for the money I think I could find better food in a more romantic (less noisy) atmosphere elsewhere.

Still Going Strong
My partner and I loved Flying Fish when it was down on First, but we had not eaten there since they moved about three years ago. We just went last Saturday (9/15/2013), and it was just as good as we remember at the old location. The new dining is nice with a large open floor plan and bar area. The kitchen is partially open, and there are large windows providing views outside. The food is terrific and remains seafood oriented, although you'll find plenty of non-seafood choices. I had a great seared tuna stake, perfectly cooked. My partner devoured a two pound plate of salt and pepper Dungeness crab, but did agree to share some. Apps, wine and service were all also real solid. Delicious! Go!

not to be missed, The Flying Fish
Although this restaurant has been in Seattle for a few years, it wasn’t until the move to the new location in the redeveloped South Lake Union area, that we have had a chance to visit. Seriously, we are now kicking ourselves for having waited so long.
I wrote a great review, but it is too long for here, please check trip advisor

Great Food and Desserts
We book this restaurant each time we are in town and it has not failed to deliver quality food and wine.

Lovely dining experience
It was a little challenging to find the right restaurant for a send off dinner for a dear friend, but Flying Fish really fit the bill. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and they have taken steps to ensure that despite the modern decor you can have a conversation without shouting at each other. For too many places these days have great food but are so "live" that food conversation is almost impossible (maybe they don't want us to linger?) The scallops were cooked perfectly - beautifully tender. We particularly appreciated the accommodations they for one of us who couldn't eat the mushrooms on the scallops. Hats off to flying fish!

Great date night
The food was fantastic; everything was plated beautifully and each plate was truly spectacular. Every dish description was enticing and I can't wait to return to try some of other dishes. It's well worth a visit!

Best Fish in Awhile
We expected a nice meal, but every course was a happy surprise. The scallop small plate was a favorite, because the caramelized onions, crispy pancetta and sauce set off the scallops perfectly. The walu entree was also wonderful. I had not been familiar with the fish, but the server was able to describe it appetizingly and the preparation was great: Avocado salsa and dungeness crab and another thoughtful sauce. Dessert rocked, too ( a chocolate pecan tart that was like a crispy, chewy brownie, with coconut ice cream), and we tried a German sparkling wine we liked so much we are looking for it for home consumption. The waiter was attentive, dryly amusing, and very helpful. Great experience!
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
There is a great mixture of small plates and entrees that are Pacific Rim influenced. A great place to take an out of town guest. It was a little dark (so hard to see the food), but the noise level was just fine for conversation. The food is the star, service was acceptable but not inspired.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Service was a bit thin on two fronts: (1) attention to the table and (2) waiter's demeanor. The restaurant wasn't full so that wasn't the problem with the attention. The waiter seemed generally disinterested in introducing the food options and helping us figure out what to choose given the many great options.
The appetizers were delicious and so was the fish. We tried four different fish plates at our table and they were all tasty and the portions were satisfying.
It's an almost perfect place to eat.

Kicks it up from the last location
First time visiting the new location for the Flying Fish. Great spot in the SLU area, with a patio. Service was great, and everyone was super friendly with my two kids.
Food came out fast which I always appreciate when my kids come with me. Steak came out overdone, but they promptly fixed it.
I would return again.

Wonderful meal at the Flying Fish
I've had the best scallops at Flying Fish and last night's dining experience didn't disappoint. Amazing scallops! We shared 3 small plates and enjoyed the different textures and flavors. The Sunfish was tender and had a delicious ginger flavor. We also had a salad with pears to round out the meal. The waiter was intuitive and enabled us to chat as our food was served and water glasses filled. Nice ambience and fish prepared so well.

Flying Fish is a Seattle Treasure
Flying Fish is the quintessential Seattle fine dining experience - creative, fresh, local and beautifully prepared. Chef Kristine Keff is one of the best in the Pacific Northwest region and the new place on Westlake Avenue is swank and gracious. People from out of town have heard a lot of hype about Tom Douglas restaurants **sigh** which are grossly over-rated. This is the place I take my out of town friends when they tell me they want to sample the region's famously delicious seafood. The service is excellent and the food is truly top rate. While certainly prices on the menu aren't a bargain they are usually moderate and well worth the quality that is delivered to your table.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
I took two 21-year-olds on break from university to Flying Fish. They were in town from Texas. One was the son of a woman I went to high school with back in the late 70s. They wanted seafood so I recommended Flying Fish. They loved it. They thought the food was excellent, and as always I enjoyed it as well.
The only gripe I have is they are always out of Jameson. That is tough for an Irishman.

Ambiance, food, service, all excell
Hip and easy surroundings with friendly and honest service .
Enjoyed our meal a lot! Desserts are rich and decadent so order one to share as a couple.

It has been 10 years since
It has been 10 years since I last dined here. The ownership has since changed (this summer, I believe). While the decor has a more Asian feel to it, the food has remained the same. Salmon is hard to do well, but Flying Fish has consistently done a superb job with it. The seafood linguini was very tasty but a bit on the rich side. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, and would definitely dine here again!
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Hadn't been here for awhile, but I'm happy to report that the food is as fabulous as ever! Lots of seafood entrees, including salmon, cod, scallops, cobia & albacore. I had the scallops and they were sublime - perfectly cooked in an interesting preparation with bacon and pureed squash. Service was very good and the waiter even offered to have the kitchen split a salad, which my dining companion and I appreciated.

Fabulous fish tacos
Best fish tacos I have ever had!
Crabcake was not comparable.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had the oyster sampler, oyster chowder, and fried oyster Caesar. ( I was I'm the mood for OYSTERS) I highly recommend the chowder. Wasn't a fan of the breading on the oyster.

and the steak too
Even though fish is the specialty, and the do it great, the steak was great too.

Main courses were delicious. Probably the best calamari in Seattle.

flying fish right in my mouth
So I never went to this restaurant back when it was in Belltown so can't comment on the experience from that time. However, I can say the service and food were great. I had the Miso Black Cod and my date had the Sesame Crusted Ahi. The cod was nice and soft, with the butter and miso bringing together the composition. And the two bundles of soba that served as the starch was a great pairing idea. The sample I had of the ahi definitely impressed me - seared on the outside, with a nice rareness on the inside. Sashimi-style ahi is always bomb so the addition of it being seared definitely provides a nice contrast to the dish. Ended our meals with the chocolate brownie and a pear cobbler, both great finishes.
Check. This. Place. Out!

This was my second trip to
This was my second trip to Flying Fish's new location. Our server this time was wonderful, the food was good (though the desserts were one of two good) , the drinks were marginal. The music initially was loud and sub-par for our taste (our reservation was for 5:30 on Saturday due to having very elderly mother with us) but greatly improved after six. I do like the location and space.

Delicious as Always
I never get tired of The Flying Fish. The food is delicious, the menu changes according to season and the fish is always prepared to perfection. It's a wonderful find.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Have enjoyed Flying Fish a couple times before going to the theater so have done Happy Hour in the bar and shared small plates. Incredibly good and reasonable. good selection of drafts and wines to enjoy and although did not have a mixed drink, the bartender looked like he had a lot of experience. He also staged the delivery of our plates so we were able to enjoy a couple at a time instead of all at once. Also had dinner in the dining area once and the dinners are spectacular. Menu changes with the seasons.

Flying Fish Tuesday evening
When we arrived about 25% of tables were vacant and had our reservation waiting for us. Food was great with either two small plates or one of the large plates being ordered by each person. Food was immaculate and good. Desert was for us home made ice cream.

Great for a Client Lunch
I came to Flying Fish for a client lunch for a group of 7. The wait staff was very attentive and the soft shell crab sandwich was delicious. I believe everyone in our party was pleased with their meals. It looks like their dinner menu is on the high-end, which is fine, but they've got some great prices for lunch.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
All four of us enjoyed a delicious dinner. Perfect for our special evening out.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
We dined at Flying Fish after a commute from Portland to Seattle. My companion had fond memories the mussels with Thai dipping sauce at Flying Fish and had suggested we visit. We were not disappointed. The mussels were fresh and tender. The sauce was the perfect mixture of salt, sweet and spice. We also tried on our wait person's suggestion the miso cod and the fried oyster caesar salad. The cod was perfect as well; however, the fried oysters were a bit overdone for our liking. Nothing just a bit more care in the kitchen could not easily correct. We topped it off with a wonderful pumpkin seed cheesecake and brittle along with the port taster selection. All in all we were very pleased with the evening.
