We always enjoy dining here,
We always enjoy dining here, the whole experience is always top notch from the wonderful owner to the service and the food. The atmosphere is casual, sophisticated and not rushed. There is an amazing balance between French and American service styles. Never rushed, servers are attentive but not hovering, food is perfectly timed. The Prix Fixe menu is well balanced with very nice options for each course and nicely priced. This time we started with the escargot and warm goat cheese with brussels sprouts - both were awesome. For the main course we had the Coq au Vin and the Steak Frites, both nicely done. Chocolate cake and Tarte Tatin finished us up. They have a very nice wine list which always helps, we chose the Gigondas - perfect!

Best birthday dinner ....ever!
On this very special occasion, i celebrated a birthday dinner with my significant other and teenage son. We started the dinner w/ champagne, followed by an order of the mussels (yum). For dinner we had: French onion soup (delish) for the men and escargot for me. for entrees, I selected the coq au vin( cooked to perfection) and the men had skirt steak w/ pomme Frits. We shared the profiteroles, floating island, and the apple tart . We enjoyed our fabulous meal accompanied by a string quartet...they played so Beautifully, if i closed my eyes, I felt like I was transported to France. To top it off, they played the happy birthday song to me as my dessert came out. W-o-w, best birthday dinner ever! Thank you.
Needless to say, we will be back.

A French Experience
A great place to come for a "French experience". The service was very attentive and the food was excellent. The salmon was tasty and the profitaroles for dessert were to die for! LOL The row of side tables are way too close together to make for private dining. I really appreciated being allowed to switch to a corner table both for privacy and because it facilitated my limited hearing.
Parking was easy on 5th street which is always a consideration, and only a 3 block walk away from Yerba Buena Gardens and the theater there, the Metreon, and the Moscone Center.
I would definitely recommend Le Charm for any occasion to enjoy good food and the best of service.

We haven't been to Le Charm
We haven't been to Le Charm in over 10 years and it is as good as I remember it to be.
5/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
This was our third time here and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is charming, the wait staff attentive, and the prie fixe menu is delicious every time. I tried the evening special of duck alaorange, it was cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for! My husband had the flat iron steak, the sauce had an oniony flavor...YUM! Dessert was also wonderful. We tried the trio, apple tartar, creme brûlée, and ice cream filled pifiterole....all delicious!

Le Charm was a great find. This was my first time eating at this restaurant and the experience was fantastic. The service and food were both excellant . The food came out hot and in a timely manner. I was there with four women fom the midwest that are not adventurous diners and were skeptical about eating in a French restaurant. They ordered the cow au vin and all loved it. I had the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. The one critisizim I have is that the lamb should be served with a different type of potato. The lamb was served with dauphine potatoes which resemble potatoe chips, I found that an odd combination. There was also band playing music in the corner of the restaurant that added to the ambience.

Great restaurant for good solid French inspired country bistro cooking. Portions are on the larger side with an artistic flair. The cooking is inspired and the passion is there. Presentations is conventional artistic, but that is fine with me, sometimes the Ca Cuisine folks over do food design to the point of distraction. Environment is clean and warm. Table distance is good, I can't stand rubbing elbows with strangers overhearing conversations I don't want to hear, like in many of the newer "cutting edge" places. Prices are more than fair and even on the lower side. Our pre fixe with bottle of wine was abut $110 for two. Service is excellent: friendly warm and welcoming without being invasive.

Great to return to Le Charm!
After a hiatus of 16 years, I was so pleased to find Le Charm still a wonderful presence with fantastic service and great cuisine. The mostly French staff and owner are charming and their advice over wine and menu selection ever so helpful. My daughter and I had a fantastic evening. My only complaint is that we were too full after consuming every morsel of our prix fixe dinners!
6/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
The main entrees were delicious.
The main entrees were delicious. The salmon and hanger steak were cooked to perfection-moist , tender and juicy. The appetizer with goat cheese on a bed of shredded Brussel sprouts was not what I expected. The flavors did not meld together to excite the taste buds. The apple tart was rather mushy. I would go back for the main courses and perhaps try another appetizer.

Great Service & Food
We had a surprise birthday party for 11 this week and Le Charm was very helpful with the planning and making sure that everything went smoothly. The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect for a special occasion. Would recommend for large parties or a romantic dinner.

On vacation in SF and searched
On vacation in SF and searched for a good French Bistro. Came upon Le Charm, and was not disappointed. We were a party of four, and went on a Thursday night when they had live Jazz music on the covered patio. Truly a wonderful evening. Good food, great service, and a very reasonably priced menu with lots of options. Not the best location, but walk inside and its a whole different experience! Le Charm - you are a gem!
6/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, lovely evening
It has a small but very well executed menu. The ambiance is very relaxed while the service is very professional without being pretentious. The front of the house has the tables quite closely together - Parisian bistro style - which makes for easy conversations with the other guests if you so choose. The backroom has more "elbow room" is you desire that more.

Everything I remembered it to be!
I haven't been here in years, as I no longer work in that area. But it was just perfect. The food is wonderful and Pre Fix was off the regular menu. Probably the best buy in town.

Romantic birthday dinner
To celebrate my husband I booked a table for two and we had a wonderful evening with exquisite food and the live music was an added bonus which really added to the atmosphere without drowning a nice conversation.
I would warmly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys great food with well fitting wines making it a pure pleasure to all senses.

There is always a delicious
There is always a delicious meal at the Le Charm, and legendary onion soup! We wind up there frequently, often on Thursdays. With live music; you feel whisked away to what appears to be a brasserie in the middle of Paris. The décor authenticate this experience even more. Fantastic service, friendly warm and welcoming. We will be back again and again.
7/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Le Charm - great experience.
I brought a date here. The candle on the table makes a nice setting. We started with the fig salad. Her braised pork was outstanding and my medium ribeye steak was excellent. We finished with a romantic chocolate cake. We had a really time. We'll definitely be back.

French Bistro in SF
Very French - from the accents of the owners, who are also head waiter and hostess (and get some help from their charming young son), to the decor, to the menu and wine list. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
8/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
We came for a special occasion, but this is a restaurant that I plan to return to again and again even if I don't have a good reason. The food was absolutely extraordinary, excellent choices on the wine list, and the service was wonderful. On top of that, we happened to come on a Thursday night when they had live music. All in all, this restaurant is amazing. A little bit of France in our lovely city!

Romantic Anniversary Dinner
We celebrated our 3 year anniversary on the back patio of Le Charm. We had seen this place many times before, but this was our first time eating here. The food and service was great, and the owner made sure that everything was to perfection. We would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Jazz, wine, great food and service
If you enjoy French Food with a bistro atmosphere go no farther! Live jazz nights are always fun. The Prix Fixe menu has nice choices and is very affordable. I usually get the steak frites, with an escargot starter, but there are plenty of choices. The a la carte prices are very good for the quality of food and service. Lena is always charming and accommodating. The meals are well prepared and they have specials that really are special! This week they had an heirloom tomato starter that was amazing. Nice wine list with a wide range of choices and prices. Make reservations you will need them on the weekends.
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Walk in and you're in a bistro - nothing like what you left on the sidewalk. Service was excellent, our waiter had a beautiful french accent and the food was flavorful, not heavy - delicious! Their pre fixe menu was really reasonable - have the french onion soup and save room for dessert.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
very good country French food.
very good country French food. Service for a large party takes a little time. But I guess the French do take a while to enjoy their dinner.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
oooh la la
step off 5th street and - voila - you're in Paris at le Charm! French onion soup as you've never known it, garlicky escargots, mussels in wine and cream (and, of course, more garlic), lobster in pastry - how do they do they even do this? The food was divine and the meticulous service was so polished that it appeared effortless and natural. We were treated royally and although I overate, I do not regret one morsel - I left appreciating the culinary art of le Charm.
The occasion was a friend's birthday celebration and we had many special requests - all our requests were graciously accommodated and beautifully managed. Truly memorable.

French...frankly well done!!!
Le Charm is just great. The service is very friendly. The food is great. The prices are reasonable. We will be back!

charming le charm
haven't been in years, and recently went back. and back we came again. chicken liver salad...awesome. so are the mussels. the idea to have both prix fixe and being able to order off it is fantastic. the food reminds me so much of a neighbourhood parisian bistro. i'll be back...and it won't be in years.

Friendly and Charming
We were greeted as if we were old friends coming for dinner.
The atmosphere is quaint and the French music takes you to another time and place. My mother wanted to take the waiter home with her, friendly, attentive service.
The food was delicious and the menu has something for everyone. How delightful to find a chicken liver salad, a special treat for me. Fig salad with goat cheese, steak with pomme frets, scallops and braised pork osso bucco were delicious as were the desserts. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Still good French food at good pric
We enjoyed our anniversary meal- this was the first place we went for a date. Dining room is tightly packed and most tables were for 4 or more so is not as romantic as it can be. We were sat right by the bar and had the servers going past us every couple of minutes- table by the front window.
Food was good quality- I had the Cassoulet which was a huge portion, my partner had the Steak which was pleasant but not Steak house quality. Overall service was good though they could do with an extra busser who would allow the servers to spend a little more time with each customer. Wine by the bottle is overpriced but this seems consistent in all SF restaurants.

We'll be baaacckkk !!
This is our 4th time at Le Charm. We introduced this restaurant to the friends who joined us and once again we vowed to be back. We especially loved the Trout and Flat Iron STeak on this trip. My husband is almost never happy with how his steak is prepared so he was beaming when his was prepared 'rare' as requested. He also loved his Chicken Liver salad and Profiteroles. He loves the Profiteroles sooo much, he has ordered it every single time.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Overall Experience
From the moment we walked in, the staff was very attentive to every detail. The whole evening was a carefully orchestrated dining experience, with the food being the star. The staff was great, the drinks were great and the food was amazing. Thanks very much, Le Charm!

A delight from start to finish
This was our first visit but surely will not be our last. It was excellent in all respects. It's a neighborhood in transition, and inside it is a warm, inviting, cozy space. Very much like a Parisian bistro. The menu is brief but diverse. A three-course fixed-priced menu for $35 is a great bargain. Everything we had was excellent: a delicious croustillant of snow crab and a mixed green salad as starters; perfectly cooked trout and a deeply flavored coq au vin for main courses, and a flourless chocolate cake and creme brulee for desserts. A short but excellent wine list (mostly French). Pleasant and efficient service.

Authentic French bistro
This is a hidden gem in an unlikely neighborhood at 5th & Folsom. Small, alluringly lit, well-appointed restaurant. The food was delicious,well-prepared and truly French. Our party enjoyed the marmite with lobster sauce, the trout, and the steak along with perfect salads and profiteroles for dessert. All four of us enjoyed our evening and would return.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had a great meal and they remembered my parents 50th anniversary!
Only issue is no parking which is normal for SF.

Best French Cuisine in the Bay
I've been to Le Charm twice now. Both times were the best dining experiences of my life! The servers I've had each time, Matilda and David, were Parisian, were friendly, helped me practice my rusty French, and knew exactly when to check on us, bring out the next course and were experts in the menu and even the cooking methods involved. The owner, Lina, is a very sweet woman who always has a great recommendation on what to try on the menu, or which dish is particularly good during a particular season. And of course, the food is the best French cuisine I've had, and that includes the restaurants I've enjoyed in France. The best part is, the prices are reasonable, so I can afford to keep coming back! Check out prix menu- 3 course for $27

le charm always charms
Diner is always treated royally and staff work together to accommodate and create a pleasurable dining experience. The food is reliably delicious no matter what day it is. Live music on the patio is also a plus.

The food and atmosphere were great. My ribeye was to die for and the escargot was amazing. Highly recommended!

Aptly named French Bistro
We celebrated our 43rd anniversary at Le Charm, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The name of the restaurant says it all; we were charmed from the moment we entered until we said our good-byes. As we walked in the door, the hostess made us feel welcome and wanted. Everything we ordered was delectable, and our very French waiter charming and attentive without being overly solicitous. Prices were very reasonable. We have spent a fair amount of time in France, and the food was very authentic. They even treated us to a congratulatory glass of muscat after our meal. It was a lovely way to celebrate, and I would be happy to return and recommend it to others.

Very good bargain. Wonderful
Very good bargain. Wonderful food at a $35 prix fixe.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
This was our first time at Le Charm, having enjoyed several other of the great San Francisco French Connection restaurant-bistros. The steak fritters and the standard chips were excellent as was my wife's lamb. The French -only wine list was a bit difficult for my California taste nudes to decode but the prices for what they offered were quite reasonable. My biggest problem that might delay our return to this bistro was the verrrry dark interior. Thank goodness I had the flashlight of my iPhone. There is no reason to keep the place so dark unless they are hiding something. Otherwise it was quite enjoyable and our waitress was quite attentive.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Charming in every way!
We could not be more pleased with our experience -- and thank other diners for their helpful reviews! We found the ambiance welcoming, the service very accommodating, the menu diverse, and the meal experience delightful. Everyone raved about their dinners and desserts. We will definitely be back and plan to bring our friends to this *charming* French bistro.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Well named, sir (or madame)
Charming restaurant, nice standard french faire, chill decor, good ambience. I had the onion soup and the steak and the creme brulee all of which were simple yet very well executed. Steak we perfectly cooked (medium rare, is there another way?), aged a bit and served with home made chips. I also tried the cassoulet all the other deserts and they were great as well. We had a group of 9 and everyone was happy with their food. Over all very good, not mind blowing but a solid restaurant.

Le Charm: always a great experience
Every time we go to Le Charm is fantastic: Fantastic Food, Fantastic Service, Fantastic Owners who are among the nicest and most talented folks around.

Excellent food. Very well prepared.
Excellent! Beef Bourgigon Onion Soup and Risotto all terrific! Creme brulee to die for!

The best find in SF
If you like French fare, or just food, in a comfortable, cosy, warm, sumptuous environment with a friendly staff and absolutely delicious food then Le Charm is for you. Every dish is prepared perfectly, good size portions without being overkill and made fresh. Give yourself a little extra time if you have show tickets as the chef and staff prepares each dish which obviously takes a few minutes longer, but no long waits. Can't wait to go back!
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Looking for a table at a great French restaurant at the last minute is a daunting task. When we came upon this place and it had an early open reservation we were skeptical. Wow were we wrong. It was amazing. The decor was serene, romantic but there was a great energy to it that made it fun and feel-good. The french waiter did seem a bit like a caricature as one review wrote but the host/owner (i think) was a superb. Her suggestions were spot on and her customer service was out of this world. Had i not had to work late the following night we planned on going again! The french onion soup is to die for the, seafood pastry is a dream and the lamb chops are perfect. If we lived in San Fran, THIS would be our go to spot.
