The food is really tasty,
The food is really tasty, the drinks are also great, but the service is slow for American standards. So come prepared, count on it, relax, and enjoy the experience. Dinner took the four of us 2 hours - drinks, appetizers and entrees. I haven't been to Brazil, but if you have been to southern or eastern Europe - well, then, its like that. The music is quiet but great, and with the decor it makes for a nice ambiance.

Quaint little place, good food
We had a very nice dinner in this quaint little Brazilian restaurant. We enjoyed the fried goat cheese as an appetizer, very tasty. My husband had the lamb chops which were prepared simple but delicious. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and finished with a pineapple glaze.

Lovely space, warm and friendly
Lovely space, warm and friendly staff, fabulous Caipirinha. Appetizers okay and the meals were fabulous. Dessert was also very delicious. Price was great and all members (5) of our party loved it.

Great little restaurant for
Great little restaurant for pre dinner theater. Loved the lamb kababs and beet salad, both delicious.

from the outside it doesn't look like much but the food and service was great. just a short walk to the Orpheum Theatre it's very busy Pre-Show. If going to the theater I'd suggest a 6 pm arrival time as the kitchen can get backed up/. Top marks for the service and the servers knowledge. She went out of her way for us including making a special trip to get some coffee due to an order mix up. We Loved it!

A bit of Brazil
Although I've never been to Brazil, Bossa Nova provided the character to give me a flavor a new region. The menu offered a variety of mix and match from small plates though grande. The food was tasty and the doughnut dessert to die for - and I don't like doughnuts.

Great Brazilian restaurant! Excellent food that is even better with the fantastic caipirinhas. Staff are friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.

For the location, a real surprise
Just south of the Civic Center, this Brazilian restaurant is a surprise. Great interior design combined with great drinks and food make this a good place to go with friends to share some tapas or a more ambitious meat dinner! Very friendly staff and very relaxed. Was there on a Monday night .. it was empty! I'd chalk that up to the odd location. Try it!

Everything was delicious here! Very tasty Brazilian inspired cuisine. Would definitely come back for the live music that the website advertised.

We had a lovely though not cheap dinner at Bossa Nova on a Monday night, so it was quiet and the service was pretty attentive. Though it's billed as Brazilian, the owners are French and while there are several Brazilian dishes on the menu -- feijuado and plantains and churascurraquito -- skewered meat -- it's not all Brazilian. They had some French dishes on there (bavette steak) and a several sashimi dishes. Overall quite good.

Good when going to the Opheum
The restaurant has a "speak easy" type bar downstairs which is fun to look at. The cairpirhina was just ok. The goat cheese with raisans and crostinis were great. The chicken skewer was ok, coconut rice good. The "Granny's special" dessert was ok. I like their feghaeda beans. Great service and friendly staff.

Food is Tasty and Authentic
Although, there used to be cute little retro TVs playing fuzzy soccer in black and white... and now no more... I miss the little touch of that... now just looks a little bland... I I do love the size of this restaurant... the lighting when dimly lit...and the food and drinks are wonderful. The Bartender Joel is great and the server was fantastic. Its reasonably priced so give it a try!

Bossa Nova Hit!
Delicious food, notably the bavette steak and frites, the feijoada and the steamed spicy mussels.
Try the goat cheese with onions on baguette toast, tasty.
Great attentive smiley staff.
Since their liquor license hadn't kicked in at the time of our reservation, we were complemented with freshly made Brazilian sodas, very refreshing.
Also, enjoyed the classic bossa nova hits playing in the background, oba-oba!!

Great Theater Location!
Bossa Nova is 1-1/2 blocks away from the theater. Has a non-descript storefront - almost missed the entrance. Inside the decorations were cozy for a neighborhood gem. The food was good with great presentation and attentive waiter. One drawback was that they do not serve alcohol.

Understated Bossa Nova
There is no signage on the street so you have to know where you are going in a sketchy part of town. But, it is very close to the Orpheum so we were pleased to have an early dinner after the matinee performance. Were disappointed to learn there was some issue with their liquor license so it was complimentary virgin caipirinhas. We enjoyed fried plantain chips with a spicy cilantro dip, wonderful pork belly, a delicious mussels and seafood dish and, of course, yummy feijoada. It was very pleasantly quite at 5:30 and became progressively noisy as the crowd picked up by 7 PM. But, it was still possible to continue dinner conversation.
I would go back when I am in the area, especially if they get their liquor license issue straightened out.

Bossa Nova delivers... but slowly!
The food at Bossa Nova doesn't disappoint and it's best to go with a group that wants to share. The steak ($23) looked terrific and came with delicious fries. The plaintain chips ($6) were to die for, but the serving size is pretty small. My lamb kebabs were really good, but there wasn't a lot of lamb... lots of onions, though. The Brazilian stew (feijoada?) was delicious, too. The person who ordered the steamed mussels said they were absolutely delicious and wanted some more bread to soak up the sauce! One person in our group came late, so the service for her was *very* slow; it took twice as long as our orders took and she was almost late for the theater!

Probably a duplicate review, I like this restaurant a lot.

When I booked my dinner at Bossa Nova, I wasn't expecting the restaurant I found when got there. The place is modern and cozy, the staff was attentive and the food had a sophisticated touched with a Brazilian inspiration. I had the Brazilian cioppino (RIo style moqueca) and my company the lamb chops. Both entrees were delicious. Unfortunately, the appetizers (chicken croquetes) were undercooked - I would say the fryind oil was too hot. The drinks were good as well - caipirinhas with different flavors. Service could be a lil more attentive to customer needs thought to insure a outstanding experience.

Best for Brazilian
I went to Bossa Nova because a friend recommended it as the best caiparinha in San Francisco. I agree that they are superb. The food was very good too and quite authentic. The feijoado was both excellent and authentic. The mussels, ceviche and plantain chips were excellent as well. The coconut flan was the best flan we have every had...ever! We thoroughly enjoyed the Brazilian beats playing nicely in the background. We'll go back.

Fun Urban Chic Experience
Tried Bossa Nova out on a whim. We were delightfully surprised to find this ethnic niche handled very well. The space is quite tight, but we were some of the first diners so being crowded was not an issue for us..
Food presentations had a nice Brazilian twist on preparations that were completely fun and satisfying. Wine options were very, very limited, but the wines we had were decent if not great and the happy hour prices for the wines were decent, but regular drink menu prices were steep for the quality. I recommend you bring your own wine and pay the $15 corkage.
Service was polite, but inattentive and rather slow so I would recommend that you resign yourself to this ahead of time and embrace the more relaxed pace.

Great place to come to prior
Great place to come to prior to going to a show at Orpheum. This is the best place to come for Brazilian food and the prices are very reasonable.

Had the best seafood coconut
Had the best seafood coconut curry, and the lamb skewers melted on the tongue. Very friendly waiters added to an excellent dining experience. We will be back again!

Not for meat sweats
Very nice menu representing more of Brazilian cuisine than just churrasco!

Convenient to theater
Good food and stones throw from the Orpheum theater. Service was smooth and prompt so that we had no problem getting to the show on time.

Many would pass by this unassuming place. The owners have focused on the interior and the food. We made a last minute reservation and we squeezed into a table near the door. The staff we friendly and welcoming, more like family. The food was terrific.

Small Brazilian offers big change
This small Brazilian restaurant offers a big change from the usual SF Asian and European style places. They have a pretty good happy hour (M-F) and a nice selection of Brazilian offerings. Not on a major walking thoroughfare but seems to be well known.
