The food was delicious! I
The food was delicious! I had duck and I thought it was the best one I ever had. Soft and crispy on the top, it melted in my mouth. My mom loved her lamb chops with potato puree and wild mushrooms, and my brother liked his steak. And we all LOVED their desserts. We have to come back just for the desserts and coffee!

A real gem on the eastside
Whenever we are in New York we have dinner there. We have sent a number of friends to the restaurant and they all love it. Wonderful place on the upper eastside.

Love this restaurant. The
Love this restaurant. The food is authentically French, with a light touch - and the lovely belle epoque decor is intimate and pleasing. Our son had scallops with a dusting of truffle which he pronounced delicious, and I had rack of lamb, pricey but generously portioned. They produced a thin, warm apple tart for a birthday dessert that was heavenly.

A touch of Paris on 67th Street -- authentic, charming, elegant, delicious. The choucroute is memorable. The salads are superb. The staff is professional.

a thoroughly enjoyable meal at a "grown-up" establishment. Very good food, polite service, pleasant atmosphere and overall dining experience

My ears must be more sensitive than they used to be. And if there'd been a little less time between courses....the food was great, the service really nice, except for the long lapses. I'll definitely go back, maybe for a much-quieter lunch. The scallops were lovely..the steak tartare authentic.

Classic French place
We had a lunch Outing with our friends. Everything was great, but we missed a good wine sommelier. Probably he/she would come for a dinner time?!
5/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is my husband's favorite dish, and we were delighted to see it on the menu -- hadn't expected it to be (as he judged it) "the best he'd ever eaten," including in Paris.

I hadn't been to this restaurant
I hadn't been to this restaurant in many years because I found it unnecessarily stuffy. However, my experience this time was fabulous. In addition to the food being extremely good, the service was wonderful.

A perfect brunch
L'absinthe is a neighborhood favorite of ours; however, I had never been there for brunch before. It could not have been more delightful! The sun was pouring in along with a fresh breeze through the open front on one of the few lovely days we have had this summer and this spilled into every aspect of our meal, which both my guest and I found delicious. The staff was kind and attentive to our special wishes on how our eggs, etc. should be cooked. The flowers, enormous urns of fruit blossoms, were magnificent, a match for La Grenouille's!

When you are tired of creative
When you are tired of creative or edgy restaurants, return here for a reminder of how satisfying classic French meals can be. But the service can be a bit inattentive and the pricing can bewilder you. How about $20 for the evening special appetizer of two white asparagus steamed and served with a simple vinaigrette. Even more offensive was that it was off-menu so the price was a surprise.

We had a lovely experience
We had a lovely experience at this east midtown neighborhood gem. I can't say a negative thing about this place. Great ambience in an intimate, warm setting on a lovely tree-lined street. Food was all wonderful, service superb. Was sorry when the evening was over. Would definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for a special place away from the crazy atmosphere of lots of NYC midtown tourist area restaurant.

Best hostess in town
From the moment we walked in until we left, we had a really nice dining experience. I don't usually book randomly on OpenTable, but we were in a neighborhood we're not that familiar with and I needed somewhere convenient. Everything was perfect....very, very good food. I wish I had gotten the name of the hostess...she was not the regular, but the one who only works Sunday and Monday...or something like that. She was exceptional.

Service was excellent -- a warm, welcoming and friendly staff. Waiter was especially good at steering us to choices which we would enjoy most.

Everything I had hoped for
I had seen L'Absinthe during a routine walk several years ago and, living in the neighborhood, thought it looked like a good place to try one day. After several years of 'thinking', my wife and I decided it was time to go; Why did we wait so long?!? We were promptly greeted at the door by the maître d' and given a wonderful table. The waitstaff was prompt and attentive, but allowed us plenty of time to make decisions. Our meal was truly wonderful, the best we have had in quite some time. Although the appetizer was on the smaller side, we were glad that we split one; the main course was more than enough (and perfectly suited the price). Dessert and coffee was nothing short of perfect - a puff pastry filled with hazelnut cream and apple tart.

This was my third visit - has become a favorite because of the food each time I visit NYC. Unfortunately, this time the service was not very good. I was never offered the wine list - I had to ask for it - Waiter was not very friendly - rarely came to our table. Food was very good - but wish the service was what it usually has been in the past.

Be back soon !
This is one of my favorite places for lunch . I often take colleges, friends, or a treat for my self.

They provided a round table for our party of 8, which is very often difficult to get in many restaurants. They had customers but it was nyc summer busy but the waiter and staff were warm, friendly and courteous. The roasted chicken, which 5 of us ordered was first class and those who ordered other dishes were also pleased with their hoices and their preparation. Really a very lovely french restaurant feeling and a very good choice for our evening.

Lots of walkers and canes at this senior friendly restaurant. But the ambiance, decor, food and service make this a destination for all ages (probably not teenagers or younger children).

Another wonderful evening. This my favorite restaurant in NYC. Always perfect food and a staff that makes you feel special. I love when Chef visits my table too, his presentations equal his delicious menu.

Very nice execution of mostly typical but sometimes modernized French bistro food, in a real French bistro ambiance. Since I'm French, I found the whole experience very satisfying and will definitely go back.

My wife and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary here. We had a great meal and the safe was very accommodating. Yes it is expensive but we knew that going in and had a great meal. Would love to go back.

A classic French bistro that
A classic French bistro that somehow strayed west from the Left Bank. Good wines by the glass, daily seasonal specials, beautifully prepared classic dishes made with modern sensibilities and served by amiable, accomodating and professional staff. It is amazing how few places in Manhattan can actually make a good omelette, L'Absinthe is one.

Beautiful and romantic
If you are looking for a romantic and pretty restaurant with delicious French food, then this is a place for you. While our waiter could have had a little more charm, our dinner was overall a delightful experience.

Charming French cafe experience
Truly charming French interior with a very friendly staff. We were there for a Sunday brunch. Reminded us of many a Parisian cafe in terms of the setting with a much friendlier staff! Comfort food (we had a wonderful mushroom soup and a spinach and goat cheese quiche) and reasonable portions. If we lived in the city this would be a regular for us.

PARIS MEETS NEW YORK CITY
IF YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES AND OPEN THEM WHILE HAVING DINNER AT L'ABSINTHE BRASSERIE, YOU WOULD THINK YOU WERE HAVING DINNER IN PARIS AT A ROMANTIC BISTRO. FROM THE AMBIENCE, TO THE WAITERS IN WHITE SHIRTS, AND BLACK VESTS AND LONG WHITE APRONS, TO THE MURALS AND LIGHTING, IT IS ABOUT AS AUTHENTIC A FEELING AS YOU COULD GET UNLESS YOU FLEW ACROSS THE ATLANTIC.
THE MENU IS NOT EXTENSIVE, BUT QUITE ENOUGH SELECTIONS TO MAKE ANY GOURMAND HAPPY. THE WINE LIST IS EXTENSIVE, AND ON THE HIGH SIDE; HOWEVER, THERE ARE ENOUGH CHOICES ON THE LOWER END TO SATISFY.

We always enjoy dinner at L'Absinthe. It's got a cozy, European feel. The food is great and seems to cater to locals, which is always a good endorsement.

A bit of Paris in NYC
The food and service at L'absinthe was very good and the environment itself makes one feel that they are on the Left Zbank. All of our party of six seemed to enjoy their meals and we were not rushed and importantly, we were able to hear one another. A lovely evening!
