Obviously a neighborhood spot.
Obviously a neighborhood spot. Seemed like everyone else knew almost everyone else! The food was good, but serving of greens with pork, while very tasty, was waaaay too big! Waitress was nice, but "not a fish-eater or a wine person"'. Didn't instill much confidence! We did ask about the crabcake which had been listed online as the appetizer for the day when they offered a crab "salad". She did check with the chef and "made it happen". Chef delivered it to our table and it was terrific!! Not "fine dining" but we'll go back.

Go to place
This is my go to neighborhood place to eat. They are friendly and everything is fresh and delicious. They serve until 11 pm. They take AMX. There is always something on the menu to please whatever issues your dining companion may have. Best of all, when I want a cheeseburger they can do that too. I am always pleased with my experience. Jimmy is my favorite but they are all nice. The chef always speaks to me on the way out.

8 forks up!
Our dinner club (8 people) thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Our only complaint was the long booth they put us in since it made conversation difficult. Out waitress was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. The food was excellent!!! Definitely a great N'Awlins food experience!

Two of us had the Lamb Shanks
Two of us had the Lamb Shanks which were outstanding. Brought my leftovers home and had another meal.
Making the reservation thru Open Table was wonderful, no waiting for restaurant to open, or being put on hold, etc.
Everything was perfect and we will be back.

This restaurant is not in the popular French Quarter or Garden District, but well worth the short cab ride. They offer very creative plates of traditional New Orleans fare (crawfish, oysters etc), but also offer something for everybody (chicken, beef options etc). Everyone in our party of six loved their meal and the staff was very attentive. And I highly recommend the fried bread pudding for dessert. Would definitely go back.
5/1/2013 4:00:00 PM
Get there early!
This place gets packed up tight on weekends, so make an early reservation. Our only problem was that the service was almost too quick. The food was great and the menu interesting.

Had a great night
We were celebrating our 37 anniversary and started at ye old college inn. Great improvement from when I was a child. Was worth crossing the causeway for. Had a seafood dish that was delicious. Then had a great time at rockin' bowl which has the same owner.
Great fun in New Orleans!
5/2/2013 4:00:00 PM
another great experience
Once again, I brought guests from out of town to Ye Olde College Inn, and we all had a blast! The food was great, and our server was wonderful. Our party of nine was seated in the small upstairs area, which we had all to ourselves. Everyone loved the food, and there were lots of foods unique to New Orleans on the menu. I appreciated the "gluten free" labels on the menu. After our meal, we went next door to Rock 'n Bowl for awesome live music and bowling. It was a great night!

Outstanding oyster appetizer
Outstanding oyster appetizer with blue cheese. Fish specials and salads great. yes even the strange sounding Fried bread pudding poor boy is very good. They understand if you start with high quality food they will come. Well worth the visit for those who have not been here in years. This is not you father's Olde College Inn.
5/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
It's worth one try.
It is a once in awhile place to dine. Food was fine, but the place too noisy. Not a relaxing atmosphere.
5/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
I can't find a superlative that even begins to describe how much I love EVERYTHING about Ye Olde College Inn. It's my husband1's and my fave restaurant in the New Orleans/Baton Rouge area!!!! Ate their for our 35th wedding anniversary in January. Ate there for my 65th birthday this week. The staff is attentive without hanging over you. the food is FABULOUS!!! It's just a superb place to dine!
5/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great New Orleans Atmosphere
Ye Olde College Inn is a New Orleans institution and continues to live up to its reputation of catering to locals with excellent food and superb service. That's why you'll always find a local crowd surrounding the bar in no rush to leave. The food is better than its ever been.
5/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fine dining flavor for less.
My husband and I have passed by this restaurant many times on our way to and from home. We finally decided to try it and are so glad! The food was absolutely delicious and the menu offered a great selection of entrees. We had the crispy boudin cake with a poached egg for an appetizer and...BOOM...it was amazing. I had the lemon thyme chicken for dinner and my husband had the pork medallions. Both were excellent. The bonterra organic chardonnay was great as well. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dining experience with great food. I might not go here for a quiet romantic dinner since it was noisy though.

New Orleans Landmark
Everything was fabulous, service, ambience and the food excellent!

my go to place
Really great. Love the freshness of everything. Amazing vegetables. We had
a lovely time.
6/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was excellent and so fresh especially the vegetables that came with the entree. The Owner grows his own vegetables across the street from the restaurant. We arrive at 6:oo pm and by the time we were leaving there were people waiting around the bar and outside to get served. There is so much history in the restaurant. We ate at this place back in the 1960's and it remains as good as ever.

Everything my wife and I ordered
Everything my wife and I ordered was flavorful and had a nice presentation. Service was very good as well.
6/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is my fifth time visiting Ye Old College Inn, and as usual, the food was outstanding. The drinks were delicious and the food was devine. Two of the diners ate the red fish special over the risotto and stated that everything, including the homegrown green beans, was fresh and delectable. The other two diners ate the veal cutlet with, what seemed to be homemade mashed potatoes, was fantastic.

I always enjoy College Inn
College Inn is great and especially wonderful for groups. This visit was a bunch of old friends from grammar school who just wanted to get together. Our waiter, I think his name is Jimmy, is always the BEST. He recommended the home-made Seafood Gumbo and it was perfect.
Thanks so much!

Won't be our last visit
Ye Olde College Inn was recommended by my aunt and uncle, New Orleans residents, and they didn't steer me wrong. The restaurant was easy to get to, even for a 5:00 pm reservation during rush hour traffic, the food was outstanding and the service was also great. It was pretty quiet when we first arrived, but was jam-packed (on a Tuesday night) by the time we left. Great restaurant - we'll be back!

A Professional Restaurant
From the greeting and seating through pleasant farewells and plans to return, this was a memorable dining experience. Our waiter, Jimmie, was perfect, knowledgeable and friendly without a trace of obsequiousness. We ordered relatively simple menu items which were perfectly executed with the freshest of ingredients. A minor mistake was quickly and unobtrusively corrected. I visited this restaurant several times 35 years ago and was happy it is doing well in its present incarnation, matured from years ago but still with fine old tradition. I plan to dine there again tonight and return on my next visit to New Orleans.

Liked it so much on Wednesday that we came back on Friday for another meal while we were in town. I had rhe soft shell crab which was beautifully presented and excellent. I forgot to order onion rings until later in the meal but when I did they came immediately and were all I hoped for. The seafood gumbo made with dark roux was perfectamento. We got the fried bread pudding and the caramel cream brownie for dessert, both unique and excellent.
6/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was wonderful and Jimmy was as charming as ever. Lovely evening.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
great neighborhood restaurant
the college inn continues to serve great meals using excellent local produce. Softshell crab and chop were excellent last night. They have a great bar as well. One of a very few local restaurants with good parking.

We loved the ambiance, service, food, and location. It was a perfect meal before walking next door for some music at Rock N Bowl. We will definitely be back.

Home town atmosphere
Jimmy, our waiter, was terrific with recommendations, accommodations, service and friendliness. Food was mouthwateringly amazing.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had a large group of 10 people. We all made it to the restaurant within 5 minutes of the reservation time. Even with the reservation I made, it still took 30 minutes to seat us. That wouldn't have a problem normally, but we had reserved lanes at Rock 'N Bowl. Had we had been seated at our reserved time, we wouldn't have had to rush through our meal. Other than that though, the food was decent, the service was great and restaurant decor and mood was warm and energetic.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We enjoyed it immensely!
You've got to try the Fried Bread Pudding Po-Boy for dessert! Yummy!
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
I was very pleased, the service from the minute we walked in was top notch. I took a friend she is92 and she has lots of fond memories with her family in the restaurant .I have been to ye ole college inn a few times before but after I looked at it through her eyes I will be back more often!
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Quality with variety
Fronts the Rock and Bowl, so the whole evening happens in one stop. Convenient location day or night. Everyone in our group loved their choices. The menu is familiar with a difference that make each plate interesting, even entertaining. Try to go hungry, because you will be tempted to order more than you plan, and you'll want to finish it. It's owned and run by a fun loving family with wonderful staff.

New Orleans Classic
College Inn is a favorite, especially when we're hosting visitors. It has a classic New Orleans menu that is well executed. The service is superb--cheerful and attentive without being overbearing. We always have a great meal and a great time.

More than I expected!
I had a great experience at Ye Olde College Inn. I've been meaning to go there forever. The food was great, as was the service. There is a large bar area at the front of the restaurant, and plenty of seating further back. They have a nice selection of wine and beer (Abita Turbodog on tap is always a win!), as well as cocktails. We ordered the Crispy Boudin Cake with yard egg on top to start. It was outstanding! Highly recommended. For dinner, we ordered the Pepper Lemon-Thyme Chicken and the Carrollton Chop. Both were delicious and filling. We both took leftovers home. I also got bacon brussel sprouts as a side. So fresh and flavorful. They use their garden, which sits next to the restaurant, for all produce. Reasonably priced. Great time!
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Have not been to College Inn in years but will
be back soon. Food level has been raised and
still a casual and comfortable dining experience,
the kitchen rivals that of a number of better
known NO restaurants. Especially enjoyed that
there was a Light and Healthy Fish on menu!
8/19/2013 5:00:00 PM
Love this place!
Great service. Great food. Great casual dining atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
oldie but goodie
Love the fact that they are growing their own herbs and veggies. Have been going to Ye Olde College Inn (the original and now this one) since high school ( many years)! With Rock N' Bowl being next door, it is a great nite out!

A True New Orleans style Restaurant
Great place, very friendly, great atmosphere, the energy is alive and the food and service is wonderful. And the added bonus is to order an entree and get $5 off your ticket to hear great music at the world famous Rock n' Bowl. Can't get better then that. If you are from out of town you must not miss this experience.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
I go to school in New Orleans and always go to the "typical" upscale restaurants. I wanted to try something different and a friend recommend Ye Olde... the food was amazing and the staff were very nice and helpful. Everyone loved their food and I would definitely return. Only minor complaint was that there definitely was an "older crowd" there.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always the Best II
The fact that we are regulars for many years - should say it all!

We are regulars for many years
The food is always amazing! Lots of seasonal veggies fresh from the garden and properly prepared to complement fresh fish and meat dishes. The seafood gumbo is like true home cooking.
And, the service, esp. Jimmy, is always the best!

Dinner with Friends
We had a great dinner!! Ribs were delicious and drinks were great!! I would eat here again and would recommend it to friends and family!!!

Better than you would think
We dined here on the Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend...walked in the second Auburn made the big play to beat Alabama. It was crazy there! The food was outstanding! I've had shrimp and grits everywhere, but Ye Old College Inn does them best!!! They use smoked gouda and add some pickled veggie pieces for a different texture and zing. The other diners agreed their crawfish delacroix were the best too. Try this unassuming place, you won't be disappointed.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good food but loud
The Shrimp and Grits was excellent, so was the green salad. The shrimp remoulade was good but not memorable. If you want a visual taste of NOLA in the 1940s and '50s, you'll like the wall paintings (by Tony Green, I think), which summon memories of Canal Street in its glory days.
