authentic Amero-Cuban food
Amazing restaurant, celebrated my engagement here the staff set us up in private room downstairs that was much more cozier than the energetic main floor. Best Cuban food I have enjoyed in new York, not too trendy just really good food well presented.

This restaurant has all you are looking for from great food to great music to lovely staff. I am def going back!!!

The food here is very good, everytime we come here. Great sangria, mojitos. The only downside is there are never any specials so once you've run through the menu you're done.

Cuban at its best
The Suckling Pig, mango mojito, and cuban coffee were awesome! Live band played and we had an overall great experience.

Good Food & Fun With Friends
Great Cuban food and reasonably priced for Midtown. Traditional selections well done. Went early with friends for dinner (6:30 PM) which worked well because we had an opportunity to chat at a quietly corner table before the band came on. Shared a pitcher of sangria--very tasty. Each of us enjoyed our meals--though I just elected to have the shrimp appetizer and chicken soup as my main course with a side of fried plantains and some bread. This was plenty of food for me! At 8:30 a very good, but lively and loud traditional band came on. It was nice, and a lot of fun, but we were happy that we had come earlier and have time to catch up in a more quiet atmosphere. Very good food and fun. Would definitely recommend and we will go back!

great place but where is the house
I went there expecting to see Pedrito Martinez as he is supposed to play tuesday-thursday. I guess I should have called ahead as he was NOT Playing that night the first week of august. I still enjoyed it but it seems like they ought to list who is playing on the website. I will go back for sure but will call ahead! good service good food etc.

Empanadas were very good. Ropa Vieja was excellent as well as the Masitas. We would return to this spot.

Truly a little taste of Cuba
Having traveled to the Island of Cuba in the past, everything about this one of a kind restaurant takes me back there. The people could not be more friendly, the music is classic cuban, the selection of rum is outstanding and of course the tastes and smells that come out of the kitchen are out of this world. And I have to mention the cigars being hand rolled in the front window. Perfection.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
A very fun evening
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We arrived before the band statues and enjoyed red sangria, which was excellent. We had delightful food and liked the energetic atmosphere. We were able to visit before the band began and were seated nearer the door so were able to talk without a lot of trouble. On the whole, a very fun evening.

Great for tapas although I
Great for tapas although I thought the peach Daiquiri was watered down.

Good Cuban food, attentive service
Food is very Cuban, it is very good. Attentive service. Small tables, the room is tight & tables uncomfortably close together. Ambience OK, could be better. We would have enjoyed dining later; there was live music setting up as we finished our meal at 9pm, although I can't comment on the quality or volume, as we left before they started. This area has many good mid-range restaurants, if you like authentic Cuban, Guantanamera is worth a look.

My first experience with Cuban food and I enjoyed it!
Our party of 8 was quickly seated and the staff was so very nice to accomodate us.
The venue was perfect for our chatting....however, be aware, once the music
begins, conversations are difficult due to the volume of the music.
Check it out.

Lunch at Guantanemera
We love the food at Guantanamera, but the noise level at dinner is way too high. We decided to try it for lunch, and were delighted to find it quiet enough for conversation and the food was just as good. (Not a surprise.) For those who avoid today's trend to noisy restaurants -- think about lunch.
For the record, we had a Cubano, arroz con pollo and ropa vieja -- all delicious!

Hospitality has my heart.
Upon getting here, I noticed a B. Normally, anything other than A is a deterrent for me. However, my small party of four--a double date--saw that letter grade overcome by marvelous food and warm service from some hot people. The atmosphere is wonderful. It encompasses the Latino philosophy of romance. It made me want to slow dance, and I'm a man who's best dance is around effort. The food was lovely. I had paella for dinner, along with banana bread pudding for dessert, that felt like it came from home, yet was plated as though it were from an upscale restaurant. This was a common theme with the food, you get food that is very elegant looking, yet has flavors that stay true to its roots. Wonderful experience, will be back soon.

Good food and ambience
I made reservations for my friend and me, she never had cuban food and wanted to try out and everything was delicious, except for her main course "corvina and clams" the fish was dry and rubbery like, aside from that the appetizers and my main course were nice chorizo and empanadas, tilapia al limon, our waiter was very attentive and the owner or manager was a real gentleman.

Enjoy the Food and the Live Music
Found this restaurant via OpenTable to celebrate my wife's birthday before a Broadway show. But we weren't able to make the early reservation so we rescheduled for a late night dinner. This turned out to be the better time to go. The band had us dancing from the moment we walked in the door. The food was great and reminded me of my mother's cooking when I was young. It was great to eat Latino food that wasn't watered down by new age cooking. We've eaten at several of the Cuban restaurants in NYC and this was definitely one of the best. We will return for more Live Music, dancing, and great Food!

A Great Birthday
I had a great birthday dinner with 5 friends.
They accommodated our group easily with a 1-day notice reservation, and the service was good.
The food was delicious and the PITCHERS OF MOJITOS were STRONG and HEAVENLY!
The live music didn't start while we were there because we had a fairly early reservation to catch a 7p show.

Amazing live band and Lots
Amazing live band and Lots of energy! The drinks were good. I wasn't dazzled by the food, but overall a great time. Every one asked who found this place.

Authentic Cuban Neighborhood Gem
Guantanamera takes you to another place. You walk in and the atmosphere that is vibrant and buzzing with people who are truly happy to be there. The staff is very warm, friendly and adds to the energy. The food is excellent and well-priced. Many Cuban classics. I had there croquetas which were very fresh and CoCo Chicken which was delicious. My husband had a steak that had to be close to 14 ounces. So big it was folded over. We were very fortunate to be there.on a night where they had live music, which also added to the fun. The other fun addition is that they have a lovely gentleman rolling hand-made cigars. Overall if you want to get a taste of true Cuban culture, head to Guantanamera.

and a very lively loud atmosphere. Would definitely go back as the mojitos were outstanding and the food delicious

Great bands play great music, very upbeat restaurant with wonderful, authentic food, sometimes people will get up and dance.

Live music and great Cuban food
We saw the wonderful Pedrito Martinez Group on a Thursday night, playing to a packed house. The traditional Cuban food was full of spicy flavor, the mojitos were tasty, and the coconut flan for dessert finished a great meal.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Food, Service and Music
We dine there each time we are in town. The food is excellent and the staff makes one feel as though they want to please you. The live music and the gentleman rolling cigars adds to the ambience.
10/3/2013 5:00:00 PM
great pre-show dinner
Service was very fast although we didn't feel rushed. Would definitely stop here before a show in the future!

A Taste of Cuba
Guantanamera feels and tastes like Cuba. The food is authentic in its preparation, presentation and taste and the mojitos excellent. You're waiter may not be Cuban, but the décor (including the gentleman rolling cigars at the restaurant's entrance) and ambiance take you from the streets of NY to those of Havana. ! Buen provecho !
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
My friend and I enjoyed empanadas
My friend and I enjoyed empanadas and calamares fritos for appetizers and the CAZUELA MARINERA for entrée. Everything was well seasoned and was absolutely delicious! They also have live music which is a real treat!
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is one of my favorite places--food's good, waitstaff takes time to explain--very accommodating. Their mojitos are tasty--but not potent enough for the price. I'll still go back there.
10/10/2013 5:00:00 PM
We LOVE Quantanamera! We go here quite abit and have ALWAYS had an amazing experience. Truly and excellent and very friendly staff plus the food is exactly what you would want in Cuban cuisine! DELICIOSO!!!!!!

Super music! Great atmosphere!
We had an awesome time. The scene is lively and hopp'n. The music was outstanding! The food is fine, not great. But I would go back in a heartbeat for the atmosphere. A super night out.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
As always the service and food were excellent. The band had people up out of their seats dancing. A great spot and they have $5 mojitos on Tuesdays win/win...
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Vaca Frita was outstanding.
Vaca Frita was outstanding. Great dinner all the way around.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Tasty food but very loud music
The food was excellent, especially the dish of ground beef, olives, raisins, egg and avocado -- an unusual combination that works. Jalapeno margaritas were strong and had a nice kick. There was a band playing that made conversation impossible so we ate fast and moved on.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
I must say..i really enjoyed the mango mojitos. I had the garlic calamari as an appetizer..it was fantastic and so was the seafood soup i had for dinner. Nepolian, who was my servicer was outstanding. i would definately go back.

Havana in NY
Great columbian food and experience, the live band is great...Though this is not the place to go for a romantic date because it tends to get very loud so you will have a hard time actually conversing. But nonetheless, the food, music and drinks will make you want to return again and again...

What's not to like?

My first time there. Great food, terrific service, reasonable prices, great mojitos (for $5), lively crowd, outstanding music, Cuban/Latin flavor - a great place!!

Good Food Great Fun
We went on a friend recommendation. Though it was packed, the service was excellent, the appetizers were perfect especially the grilled squid with garlic and the ceviche. At about 9'o'clock on Friday there was live music and they were very entertaining. We had a nice fun night out.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
The mango mojitos were to die for. The food was delicious! We were seated downstairs which is a more intimate setting. I really enjoyed this place.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great cuban restaurant and in the evenings (most nights) it has live music. It is not pretentious, but once you start getting the food brought out to you, every single plate is awesome and very genuine. There are not many great cuban restaurants and this is clearly one of them.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
I went there y myself and had a great time. Very lively place with livd cuban band. Service was excellent and food very good.
The marguarita was great!!
I would go back anytime.

It was my 2nd time there and it was lovely and lively as the first time. I took two males with me and they were disappointed about the portion size of arroz con pollo.

Dinner and Music
Dinner was good, but the live music was terrific and made for a fun dinner, not to mention the pitcher of mojitos they also have available! Yum! Was exactly the type of dinner we were looking for and was nice to see that it was available on a Monday evening.
11/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food is always excellente! Live Cubano music a plus!!
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great Cuban food and atmosphere
This is a very lively restaurant with a menu of traditional and nouveau Cuban cuisine. The place is usually packed, so make reservations and/or be prepared to wait a bit, especially if you want to be upstairs for the live bands blasting Cuban music. They're open until 1am many nights, so it's a fine post-theater option.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
The real deal
Guantanamera is such a great spot for delicious cuisine and lively atmoshpere. So much so we need to figure out how we can drink, dine and dance at the same time -- which is the feeling we get at this neighborhood gem. Bravo!
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great restaurant. Third time we have been there and love it!! Service is outstanding and food wonderful!! Band was great too.
