As always, food was amazing
As always, food was amazing and the Spak's are great hosts. Love the "basement" lounge area... very cozy and unique.

The food and atmosphere were outstanding. Unfortunately, our waitress did not even come close to providing the type of service you would expect from an establishment as nice as this one.

Always a treat!
A lovely sunset view toward the mountains,an innovative pre dinner drink, friendly and funny waitress, wonderful asparagus spring soup started our dinner. The Oxford House is always a good choice! A lively celebrating group in the adjoining room made the place a bit noisy. But they were happy. The hoisin pulled duck was great, the steaks were cooked to perfection and the lamb special was almost perfect. The accompanying risotto was less tasty.
We will be back for certain!

Oxford House is on the Main
Oxford House is on the Main Street of the small town of Fryeburg, Maine. At first glance it is rather unassuming. However, it was a delight for dinner. The owners and staff are friendly and professional. The back of the restaurant has a breath taking view of the Mt. Washington Valley. The food was non-pretentious and outstanding. So, the food, atmosphere, and service were great. We would highly recommend the Oxford House Inn.

Fantastic, ultra fresh food.
Fantastic, ultra fresh food. The chef really knows his craft. Love the atmosphere in the quant upstairs dinning rooms, but also love the local art filled downstairs pub. Service is always personable, and timely. Dinner at the Oxford House Inn is always a memorable experience.

Great Food, Great Evening
As always, great food. Love that the menu reflects seasonality and local grown items. Perfect place to spend an evening catching up with friends over food and drink.

I love dining at the Oxford House Inn . I know that I'm always going to get a delicious meal along with great waitstaff service. I love the fact that there's always something new to try wether it's an appetizer, dinner entree,or a dessert. I have always been completely satisfied with your fine establishment. Thank you for all that you offer. Gail Cazeault

The Oxford House Inn is located in an old mansion on Main Street in Fryeburg, ME. The view from the dining room in the back of the mansion is lovely overlooking an agricultural valley, ringed by the White Mountains. The food is varied, relying heavily on local and seasonal items, and is delicious. The cost of a dinner is exceptionally reasonable, given the quality of the food. We will continue to go back to the Oxford House (an hour drive for us) for special dinners.

My husband and I wanted a romantic dinner and the Oxford House was perfect! The food, atmosphere and service were outstanding and the view from the back porch is stunning!

A long time and consistent favorite
We've been dining at the Oxford House for years and love the seasonal menus that they create using local farm fresh food. The Halibut with Sweet Onion Hash and Brown Butter Sauce was amazing - the onion hash tasted like fresh summer veggies and the halibut browned and moist. Our table on the back porch overlooked the mountains and we watched a variety of birds land on the bird feeder right outside the large window in front of us. This place makes your shoulders drop 2 inches and provides a party for the taste buds!

Best Dining in the MW Valley
Without question, the best dining in the Mount Washington Valley - hence the five stars. To find anything comparable or better, you need to head to Portland, Maine. Jonathan's creative menu and local ingredients make it a place you could eat every week and not be disappointed. Eat upstairs for a more formal dining experience, or the same menu downstairs in the cozy bar/lounge area.

a must-go, must-see
We arrived a bit early and were very warmly greeted by the owner. We had been there 17 yr prior and were pleasantly surprised. We were seated on the best table of the house, in the back room, with spectacular un-obstructed views of Mt. Washington. I had a non-alcoholic cocktail that was TO DIE FOR! Appetizers were excellent as well as and main courses, a bit too abundant for my taste. I believe I should have rather gone for one of they "bistro" plates(smaller portions) You definitely need to try their desserts. They have the best home made sorbets and ice-creams!!! Passion fruit and basil, OMG!
Don't give it too much thought, just make a reservation (make sure you are seated in the back porch) and go have a great dinning experience!

surprising find in small town
Entrees and sides are unique. Taste combinations not the usual combinations but work well.

chef owned B&B
It is always such a treat to stay in a chef owned B&B. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Great for outdoor dining also. Breakfast was abundant and very tasty. Fryeburg... who would have thought you would find such a gem. Jonathan and his wife will take great are of you.

A true GEM
We planned a quick getaway to NH for fourth of july week. Our B&B recommended this restaurant. It was AMAZING!! Every item on the menu looked good. We had the filet and pork tenderloin. The pork melted in your mouth. A must try!! We also started off with the crab cakes and they too were excellent. We never heard of Fryeburg, ME, but it was worth visiting for an outstanding restaurant, staff and meal.

Best Food in the Mt. Wash Valley
I love the Oxford House. The food is excellent, the ambiance is perfect for a romantic date or a group of friends dining out. The prices are reasonable, they have a gluten free menu that has more than one item and even had an item on their menu that was perfect for my picky health nut vegan husband. The cocktails are delicious and creative. Jonathan's Pub downstairs has a more casual atmosphere. Dining on the porch in summer would be lovely too.
7/5/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is a step back in time, dining in an old inn with a beautiful view of the mountains, or eating street side on their large screened in porch. Our server was great, friendly and responsive. 3 of our group of 4 loved our meals. One felt the filet mignon was not what he expected.

Loved the Place
We had not visited the Oxford House in many years. Since our last visit it has gotten even better. Food was excellent and service was great. We will be back when we are in the area.
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
We feel very fortunate to live in a town that has the Oxford House Inn available to us for any occasion. The downstairs pub has a casual atmosphere and pub menu, though you can also order from the full dining room menu in the pub. The main floor of the inn is intimate and romantic, and it is excellentt for special occasions. In the summer the porch is a perfect combination of the pub and dining room. We highly recommend the Oxford House Inn to anyone looking for an outstanding meal.

Never ever ever a bad meal. Seasonal menu, farm fresh produce and never flaws.

Oxford House Inn is a diamond
Don't miss this place. One of the finest in New England, even though it is tucked away in Fryeburg, ME. However, it is 15 minutes from the busy North Conway, NH summer and ski resorts, just over the border. As a Bostonian who has eaten at superb restaurants over the years, the food here is truly outstanding.About six full entrees , but also a bistro menu with variety. A number of unique appetizers to choose from and a white chocolate raspberry cake that should be patented. The Inn itself has three separate dining rooms, although each may hold only 10-20. Wonderful bar in the cellar with stone walls and wood burning stove. Intimate, romantic and good for special occasions.

Wonderful Food in Maine
Oxford House Inn brings fine dining to western Maine. The CIA-trained chef is very creative in the kitchen, and has been quite successful at blending local food with international flavors. The menu has a range of options for more and less ambitious palates. My son had an Asian-inspired noodle dish that was fascinating and good; I often go for the duck in its different guises, all of which have been excellent. You can't go wrong with the appetizers and desserts - all excellent! And if you really want to treat yourself - book a room at the inn and enjoy the fabulous multi-course breakfast while looking out over the meadows and mountains in the back room. This is also a very comfortable place to stay and dine when travelling alone.

Always consistent and creative
As usual, the Oxford House provided a wonderful dinner, great service and a desire to go back again.
Our favorite spot to dine!

White Mountain Bliss
The best restaurant in the foothills of the White Mountains. Varied menu with choices for all palettes and a wine list to match. Wonderful friendly service and Hendrick's in the bar.
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've eaten here on numerous occasions. You will not find a better dining experience in the Mt. Washington Valley or Western Maine. The food is great, the atmosphere is causally elegant and the service is top notch. Be sure to make a reservation well in advance during summer and fall months. You will not be disappointed.

Believe the hype
Found the Oxford House Inn via OpenTable and went because it is so well reviewed. Period moldings, lovely garden view, amazing food. Very well put together menu is both comfortable and daring. Strawberry-jalapeño margarita was a highlight; cocktail menu was too good to make just one selection.

Perfect date night!
I brought my girlfriend here after a friend suggested we go. It was beyound my expectations. It's now our new special dining spot! Very romantic!!

Great food, mediocre service
Oxford House met expectations as one of only 2 excellent fine dining restaurants in a 40 mile radius of the valley (the other being Libby's in Gorham, NH). Apart from a temperature issue with one of the appetizers (corn fritters were cold), the food was excellent. The acoustics were not ideal; you could hear the conversations of all the other parties. The service would have been ok if this wasn't a $50+ per person meal. The waitress was friendly, but not attentive and not knowledgeable enough. I asked for a list of single malt scotch and she read off all but the last one (which I noticed later because the desert menu listed them). There were huge gaps of time when she did not return to the table to check on us.

A Neighborhood gem
I had the Scallop special and it was to die for. Everything I've had there has been expertly and creatively cooked and presented.
The service was great and the wine exceptional. It has been one of my favorites in the North Conway area.

Always a special event!
Always a five star experience. Excellent food. The specials were delicioius and reasonably priced. Ditto for the wine. The staff is always friiendly, attentive and helpful.

Dinner in September
The bar offered several excellent wines and beers as well as cocktails that guests can take outside to comfortable lawn chairs.
The view across the Saco River Valley to mountains beyond is not to be missed and can also be seen from one of the dining rooms, so book an early table.
Food here is always top notch. We started with field green salads that were fresh, beautiful and flavorful. The ladies had grilled salmon and the gentlemen had beef. All delicious.
The chef takes advantage of the wide variety of local ingredients and treats them with respect. Sides and sauces always complement and enhance the entree.
We usually skip desserts, but at Oxford House we indulge. Creme Brulee and home made ice cream were perfect.

This space was cozy and perfect
This space was cozy and perfect for a date night out! The hostess was immensely helpful with directions, as we were from out of town and slightly lost.
Upon arrival, we were seated at the bar (which we special requested!) and there we enjoyed several courses of delicious food and some lovely cocktails shaken by our bartender, who was a delight. He shared with us a cool story about our bottle of wine we ordered too which was a nice touch (learn something new everyday)
Can't wait to go back next time we're escaping town for a great night out, in a gem of a cozy spot!

We don't live far from this wonderful B and B so we are thinking of making it an annual visit. Food is some of the best I've had. The flavor combinations are so unique and leave you wanting more.

The Best Meal of the Year!
The Oxford House Inn was recommended to my husband and I as a good place to celebrate his 50th birthday. They couldn't have been more right! It was a short, scenic drive from our hotel in North Conway and it turned out to be one of the best meals we've had all year. Our server was very attentive and knowledgable. Our meals exceeded our expectations. We will certainly return to this quaint inn with an exceptional chef!

Our experience at The Oxford House was unbelievably fantastic! We started in the bar for a drink prior to our reservation time. The bartenders were wonderful. Once seated in the dining area we were greeted with a very friendly waitress. It was a full house and our food all came out very fast! The food was out of this world good and I have never had a better cocktail! Highly recommend and I can not wait to return!

Top notch restaurant
Stayed overnight at the Oxford House Inn (a thoroughly delightful stay and breakfast was excellent) and had dinner at the inn before heading over to Stone Mountain Arts Center for a concert. The food was delicious and elegant. Ran out f time for dessert but have not doubt it would have met the very high standard set by the appetizers and main courses. Cannot wait to stay and dine there again!

Don't miss it
Oxford House Inn is the best restaurant in the great state of Maine, located in tiny Fryeburg near the New Hampshire border. You can dine in the beautiful dining rooms, or relax in the more casual pub in the downstairs location. Either way, the food is incredible. It's worth a trip from wherever you are!
