This is a great, quiet spot
This is a great, quiet spot for a relaxing dinner. The wine (and Raki!) list is extensive and interesting (and apparently half priced on Mondays). Despite the tapas style portion sizes are reasonable and most of all, you must have the baklava. Despite being a unrepentant carnivore I wasn't wild about the lamb kebab or the icli potatoes but the durum adana was very good. I've been to Divan, Cafe 8, Meze, Levantes and Tash. If you want tapas style Turkish with lots of variety, Meze is the only strong competitor. I'd say Mezes meat dishes are stronger but Ezme has much better vegetarian dishes and desserts and a ritzier atmosphere with better service.

My husband and I had a date
My husband and I had a date night and decided to venture out somewhere new and chose Ezme. Turkish Tapas. It was wonderful. There were a few tasting menus with optional wine pairings and so we each picked a different menu so that we could try many different items. That was the way to go. We got wonderful little portions of salad, 4 appetizers each, my husband got an extra plate with 3 different seafood, then 3 entree and finally dessert. The best baklava I have ever had in my life. And I am not a fan of the sticky treat - but this was melt in your mouth heaven. The waitress was wonderful, our water glasses never went dry, she selected wonderful wines for each plate. It was a perfect 2 hours that reminded us of Paris

Excellent find nestled in Dupont!
A little cramped, but the tables were at least evenly spaced apart so you didn't feel like you were crowding your neighbor table or vice versa. The waiters, maitre'd, and runners were courteous and helpful explaining the Turkish cuisine to our group (most of whom were unfamiliar with the food choices).
Very quaint and highly recommend for reasonably priced - delicious "tapas" style Turkish fare.

The food was very good - our group tried lots of small plates and enjoyed all of them. One recommendation is to try the red or white Turkish wine flights - you will be pleasantly surprised. Will definitely return when back in the area.

This was a pleasant find. The food was tasty, served hot and in good amounts so that you could try many different dishes.
The servers were helpful with suggestions and very attentive. No complaints. I'd return to Ezme.

A chance inquiry seeking small, personal dining experiences in DC brought this gem to my attention. Having a preference for small places where very good food is prepared and served with pride and attention to their customers, I will add this place to my list when in DC.

nice place for a group get-together
met up with 3 friends recently and had a great time sharing plates. Enjoyed the Turkish beer, which I'd never had before.
5/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good food. They have a very nice vegetarian tasting menu which we have every time $35//person. Plenty of food and each course is nicely presented. Plenty of choices for everyone. Nice wine choices including Turkish wines. Service and atmosphere is always pleasant. Highly recommend for a Turkish food experience.

Don't bother going to Istanbul
Better than some food I've had in Turkey! My Turkish friends here in the States cook like this when they invite me to their home for dinner. The tasting menu, for $35/person, was the perfect way to enjoy different dishes. We were there on a half-price bottle of wine night.
5/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
We've eaten at Ezme a half dozen times, and we have never had a dish that was not tasty and well-prepared. The menu is extensive and features dishes not to be found around the DC area. Service is timely and cordial. Occasionally Ezme can be a bit noisy, since space is limited. Mondays bottles of wine are half price, a good value. The tasting menus are good, and the wine pairings are interesting.excellent for a special evening.

A really nice find in Dupont Circle
We were in DC for a conference and wanted something that we wouldn't get at home. Between OpenTable and Trip Advisor, we found Ezme, which had great reviews on both sites. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the staff and service was outstanding (fun, friendly, just the right amount of attention) and the food was fantastic. None of us had tried Turkish tapas before but we all loved it. Many were from family recipes and were clearly prepared with love. They had an impressive wine list but we ended up trying a Turkish Shiraz which was excellent. We finished with some Turkish desserts, also very good. We would definitely go back to this wonderful little restaurant.

Great selection and flavors
Went with sister and our early-20s daughters. The selection of Tapas was great. Late dinner. Service was very good. Great suggestions. Neice moving from DC this weekend - so a great last hurrah!

Great food, great service, reasonable prices. Maybe the energy could be a little more vibrant without being noisy. Thanks for asking.

Small, tasty plates
A great introduction to Turkish cuisine. The small plates make it easy for even 2 people to get a generous sampling. The eggplant dishes were all excellent. Seafood selections were fine and nicely cooked. Only hesitancy: the Turkish "saganaki" type grilled cheese was so salty it makes feta seem bland. Any one of our other multiple choices would bring us back. Extensive and interesting wine list. Hot mint tea made with a blend of fresh green mints was outstanding to finish the meal. We'll recommend this AND come back.

Picked this place at random from locations near our hotel. We were very pleased with this find. Excellent service, food was great.... An overall A+ experience. We plan on going there at least one more time before we leave DC.

Ezme is still Excellent...
Dinner at Ezme on Sunday evening was exceptional. We are very familiar with the restaurant. It is a neighborhood gem. We dined progressively starting with a selection of appetizers picked by our server. They were delicious. We moved on to share all three of Ezme's stuffed roasted baby eggplant starters. We proceeded to rack of lamb followed by Ezme's signature chicken dish then moved on to pan-seared scallops. For dessert we savored a wonderful home-made baklava presentation that was delicious.

Wonderful find on vacation!
Visiting D.C. and wanted a nice place to eat that wouldn't cost $100 for dinner. Ezme's was great...small/romantic, delicious, and great service! Plates are $7-9 each and they are just tasting plates, but my husband and I shared a starter (Baba ghanoush-great) and shared 4 dinner plates, which filled us up. Bill was $45 and had a wonderful time trying Turkish food for the first time!

After my first experience at Esme, I've found it to be the perfect place to take colleagues for business lunch and to meet friends for dinner. The small portions make it great fun to share and experience different tastes and textures at a reasonable price.

Great for Lamb lovers
The lamb chops were excellent as were the other lamb dishes we tried. We will be back.

2nd visit and still impressed
After visiting with friends several months ago, we decided to take our parents when they came to visit. My parents love Mediterranean food so I thought it would be a nice treat. As before, it was fantastic. We did the prix fixe menu to make it easy and I was surprisingly impressed despite my desires to pick and choose. Added on the wine pairing which I don't recommend. They have so many excellent wines and the wine pairing isn't as good.
Service was stellar. Very attentive staff who were quick to explain everything we had on our plates and who did a great job of spacing out the small plates.
My parents are still raving about both the food and the service. Truly a fantastic place.

Fantastic food and service
This was my first time here. The menu was very extensive with
excellent choices. So many that I chose the 3 course meal with
wine pairing and my girlfriend chose the vegetarian
chef sampling. Food was amazing and a particularly enjoyed
the lamb that came on the second main portion.
We both chose the wine pairing which we feel is a great deal for an extra $15.
We plan to return the next time we are in DC, not just
for the food but also the attentive staff.

What a wonderful sampling of Turkish Mediterranean cuisine, beyond the familiar repertoire, with some nice Turksih wines appropriate to the occasion.

An unexpected pleasure.
Ezme was recommend by a DC veteran. I had my elderly mother with me. They graciously assisted her with her walker and ordering. The food was very good, very fresh, and served quickly. The noise level was moderate and we were able to talk comfortably. Nice wine list.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
My sister and I can attest that every vegan and vegetarian food item on the menu (in the "Garden" section) is delectable. We make sure to come to this restaurant for dinner every time we visit DC, and it has never disappointed us. WE LOVE EZME. The ambience is great, and the service are always genuinely friendly. There are so many plates to choose from; the dishes are all tapas style, and they are perfect to share between two people.

A joyful dining experience
I took my family to Ezme Restaurant while their visit from Turkey. Since my mom is an excellent Turkish cook, her take on Ezme Restaurant was very meaningful to me. Overall, she loved it and enjoyed every bite. She did not like the size of the servings, but we had a delicious meal as a family.

Great food, warm and cozy decor
We got the recommended sampler (about 7 or 8 tapas plus baklava). Everything was delicious. Four people with mixed tastes and not a single dish was dissed the entire evening. Wine menu heavy on Turkish selections, but otherwise decent. Prices were moderate - $35/pp for the sampler. Service was just right -- not too bothersome (which is a neat trick when you're bringing a new plate every 5 minutes) and there when we needed them. Two points of advice: 1. The waiter had us pegged for Turkish cuisine novices (we're not), so he pushed the sampler. If you don't look Turkish or middle eastern, push for ordering off the menu. 2. Wait to order if you don't like to eat right away. Food starts coming out 2 minutes after you order.

I asked for a quiet table
I asked for a quiet table and they were very accommodating. The service was excellent. This is a small, quiet, cozy place. I don't know why I haven't been there before. The food was very good and they have an interesting wine list. I am planning to go back!

Upscale and classy
Four friends met for dinner at Ezme for the first time. We sat at a corner table by the window and also had a lovely view of the "wine wall". There are so many options on the menu that it is hard to decide. Ezme has options for all budgets, ranging from an appetizer or two for a light meal to the "tasting" which includes a little of everything for the foodie. The service is fast and friendly, but not rushed. I highly recommend Ezme.

Simple, delicious, fresh
Excellent lunch venue - moderate prices make the fabulous food a great value. The red pepper spread was delicious - the bread, heavenly!! The shepherd's salad is a nice take on the traditional fetoosh. A lovely place in a great neighborhood, gracious service... you can't go wrong.

Four of us went to Ezme to try it out for the first time during Restaurant Week. We were very pleased with the dining experience. The idea of tasting several small portions offered a delicious sampling of Turkish cuisine. We had several different dishes between us and all were excellent. The waitress was most attentive and helpful. The ambiance was uncluttered and the noise level muted, one of us who is hard of hearing was delighted that he did not have to adjust his hearing aids. We tried an Italian red wine which offered us an understanding of why Turkish wines are, perhaps deservedly, not well known. None of us would hesitate to recommend Ezme and we look forward to returning. A delightful dining experience.

A pleasant experience
I like the ambiance of Ezme. The food is really good, very delicious and authentic. The service is very good, and professional. My every visit to Ezme is a very positive experience.

My wife and I were in town at the Fairfax for the weekend, and we stumbled onto Ezme entirely via location search and Open Table reviews. We sampled the restaurant week menu and WOW was the food good. We had a wine flight featuring a red from Ankora, and some wonderful food, followed by heavenly dessert and traditional turkish coffee. The food and service exceeded expectations. The contrast of flavors, and aromas let to a superb evening!

Excellent Turkish food
Ezme has been open since the spring. This week I finally got to try it. I've long been fond of Turkish food. Two decades ago I spent two weeks in Turkey on business, and I'm fond of saying I never ate better on a business trip, ever.
Ezme brought it all back: excellent hummos, house-made pide, delicious cold salads, wonderful lamb kebabs, and a dessert (not baklava) that I wasn't familiar with, but which was absolutely marvelous. It was sweet cheese between layers of warm phyllo pastry, absolutely delicious.
The restaurant is right off Dupont Circle, in a very attractive upstairs room (they have a ramp for wheechairs). Service was quiet and professional. We'll be back again and again.
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
A wonderful sampling of Turkish mezzes and dished from all over the country. Sized to share and seasoned with all the native spices. Service is also excellent. Ezme does not disappoint.

Quiet Sunday Dinner
I was there with 3 friends for early Sunday dinner, and for a while we were the only ones there, so we enjoyed the special attention and did not feel rushed at all. (More people came later.) I liked being able to order several small plates to share, thus having the chance to try a lot of different things. I liked everything we ordered.

Excellent Turkish Bistro
If you like authentic Turkish meze and want to go somewhere that clearly shows you care, Ezme is a great choice. My favorite dish in the world is hünkar beğendi and they do it very well. Also you have to try their mucver. It's the best.

Great Turkish Restaurant Week Lunch
Had a terrific lunch with a friend. Got the four-course special menu for $18. Good amount of food, but not so much I felt uncomfortably full after 4 courses. Everything was delicious!

Ezme serves great Turkish food. It offers a wide selection of dishes from all across the country. They are prepared very well and very close to authentic. The service is quick and friendly.

Nice place, tasty Turkish food
Small plates, good food, attentive service, not expensive. Great little date place. The chicken was a favorite, the steak with gruyere was nice, also liked the dough stuffed with feta. Would go back for sure.

Mouth Wateing Turkish Food
Perfect for small plate healthy and excellent food. We were referred hear by locals and were not disappointed. Our server "Mahir" was most informative and patiently helped in our choices of food and wine. Reasonably priced an oh so delicious.

Tasty Turkish Tidbits
Lively Turkish restaurant serving small plates of deliciously subtly spiced/sesoned food of a wide variety. If you have never had Turkish food before, this is a good place to try a number of dishes. The wine list is good. They offer flights of whites and reds as well as half carafes of Eastern Mediterranean wines with reasonable prices. There is something for all tastes and dietary preferences. The desserts are housemade and very tasty as well!

Terrific Turkish Retaurant
On a recent visit to DC, we found Ezme, a terrific Turkish restaurant, in the Dupont Circle area. We had a chance to try many dishes we hadn't experienced before off a very interesting menu, and loved every single one! The small plates approach allowed us to try a number of dishes, a real plus. Most servings were enough for the two of us. Our server, a lovely young woman, made suggestions and we took them and were glad we did. They have an amazing dessert made from shredded wheat that was baked with a sweet cheese mixture and topped with a lemon sauce - wish we could have it for dessert every night! We heartily recommend trying Ezme - you won't be disappointed. We even tried two types of Turkish wine and enjoyed them as well.

a great find in Dupont Circle
My wife and I love tapas and this was an unexpectedly delicious meal with a twist on traditional tapas. the waitress guided us through her favorites on the menu and the food was perfect. she also suggested a perfectly paired Turkish wine that we'd never had before and it paired perfectly. We will definitely be back.
