A birthday surprise!
A double birthday dinner marked our threesome's first visit to L'Olivier. It was better than we expected. A beautiful room with plenty of space between the large tables. And quiet! Our waiter, Alex, was most considerate and very skilled; so were the other staff. Though it was not on the prix fixe menu, Alex was happy to substitute the sweetbread appetizer I craved, and it was superb.
For a first-class, classical French restaurant, the prices were amazingly low, and the $18 corkage fee may be a record low these days. We will definitely be back.

Outstanding food and service.
Had a great dinner and amazing service. While there was big event going on in main dining room, you couldn't tell in the adjacent dining area. Very attentive wait staff who made a difference in making it a lovely dinner.

Delightful all around.
Wonderful for lunch. Great value and it was nice not to have to shout over noise to be heard! Very good food and wine prices. A. Financial district gem!

L'Olivier is a gem! Great: Food; Service; & Ambiance. Can't beat it for a business dinner or a romantic/special occasion. Prices were reasonable, as well.

Lunch Before Our Cruise to Alaska
We were lucky to have some friends give us a ride to Pier 35 where we were going to board the "Grand Princess" for a ten day cruise to Alaska. We wanted to thank them by taking them to lunch. We were too late to book them on the Ship for a "family lunch" before embarking, so we went to O'livers and were very pleased with the food and ambience. This was our first time although they have been in the same location since 1978. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you like traditional French cooking. The atmosphere and service are very pleasant which led to a great experience before embarking on our cruise.

I have been a patron of this
I have been a patron of this restaurant since 1981. I truly enjoy the food, service and ambiance. Very convenient to the Embarcadero Center patrons.

I always like to dine here with a friend as it's an oasis of quiet with outstanding service and good food. We two can have a long, civilized conversation. Can't beat the location as it's on the first floor of my apt. house.

While being open since 1978, my wife & I last year found this great neighborhood gem just a few blocks from the financial district. We make it a point to visit for both lunch & dinner during our trips to San Francisco. The food is delicately prepared with attentive personal service.

A very good dining experience
Had dinner with my wife and a friend on a Monday night. The restaurant was not crowded and quiet which permitted for some great conversartion without having to talk over the noise of a crowd. The service was attentive and prompt and the food was excellent. In particular, their Casesar Salad and their Filet Mignon were well prepared and very tasty. My wife and our friend had the l'escargo (sp?) and said it was delicious. My wife has the Sole and said it was also quite good. It's on the expensive side but I found it well worth it and a good place to occasionally go to for special occasions or to meet a friend for good food and conversation

Still Good After all these Years
Fresh and well prepared and well served. Three different generations at the table enjoyed the food. All dishes were enjoyed from the piquant roasted red bell pepper soup to a wonderful entrée of seafood risotto to desserts that were not only beautiful but, delicious. From a crème brulee to a Valhona chocolate mousse cake with white chocolate and dots of raspberry sauce. One of the most delicious and simple apple tarts.
The service was outstanding. Even if you haven't been in awhile - go back! They also have a full bar and I didn't partake but, noted all the drinks as they passed by to other tables.

Good for conversation
L'Olivier has been the same forever and is reliable for providing a quiet place to catch up with friends. We can actually hear each other and always enjoy the food. The service is excellent.

L'Olivier tops our list
This is our favorite restaurant in all of San Francisco. I have been here for work-related events in the private dining room, and for dinner with our adult children and on many occasions for just the two of us. Food is always amazing (especially the Filo dough/brie starter) and the quiet atmosphere allows conversation. This an adult oasis of elegance in SF and moderately priced so you can relax and enjoy. Perfect.

The main dining room & their front atrium rooms are excellent but they had a private party so they sat us in a brightly brightly lit room which took away all the charm of the restaurant. Felt like I was in a conference room with no ambience. I would not have eaten there had I known . This restaurant does a lot of pvt parties they should let the patron know ahead of time.

Getting the bill
The service to the very end was good. A little more care should be given as to who gets what item rather than having to ask us. And as it happens in many restaurants, there was a wait for the bill after it was obvious that we were all finished.

Three of us went for 4-course
Three of us went for 4-course Thanksgiving dinner. It was wonderful. L'Olivier is a charming French restaurant in the Financial District near Embarcadero Ctr--in existence for 35 yrs. Consistently excellent French cuisine and warm, attentive service. Good for business lunches also since tables are not so close together that you hear every word next to you.

Thanksgiving Celebration - Perfect!
We decided to have a break from the usual Thanksgiving tradition and arranged a late afternoon meal with our son & his family. L'Olivier was the perfect place for our small group. We had a delightful meal, our choice of dishes - all of which were delicious. THe staff were all kind and treated our grandson very well.
Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
