Usual Fine dining experience
We Love Paloma and have been back many times. Food ALWAYS excellent. Everything was interesting and excellent. The DESSERTS ARE TO DIE FOR!!! I actually do not usually order dessert but Paloma"s all HOMEMADE desserts are an exception. Recommend all of them. My favorite, though is the Mexican Chocolate gelato. It is a flaor unlike any other I have ever tasted. SUPERB.
One off note was service BUT NOT indicative of the usual service. New waiter, forgot one order, got wife's order wrong, but a nice guy just inexperienced. All other times, service has been excellent.

This restaurant is a gem.
This restaurant is a gem. They serve wonderfully creative and tasty food. The wait staff is attentive without hovering intrusively. They are friendly and seem genuinely happy to have you there. The reasonably-priced valet parking is great to have available in a crowded neighborhood.

Everything was perfect here, from the housemade jabanero sauce tableside to the perfectly poached shrimp. The desserts are beautifully presented and taste even better.

Well worth the visit
Often, people want to keep their favorite spots a secret so they don't get too mobbed. I want to make sure everyone knows about this lovely restaurant with excellent food and very accommodating service. We were there at 7:00 on a Saturday night and there were only about 5 tables occupied. We were a party of 5 and we ordered many different menu items among us, and everything was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. It is not inexpensive, but seemed worth the price for the quality of the ingredients and preparation. I want to spread the word and make sure that Paloma stays open so that we can look forward to return visits.

We are serious restaurant foodies and can't understand why Paloma isn't packed every night. Excellent food - creative without being precious. Great flavors throughout the meal. Charming, comfortable space and excellent service.

Chef Saavedra and his wife Barb continue to delight the palate from first bite to last. He draws from complete, complex palatte of flavors to create dining experiences. I went with friends on a Tuesday night and enjoyed their $30 prix fixe menu, which has to be one of the most amazing dinner deals in Philadelphia. Already looking forward to my next occasion to dine at Paloma!

Inventive menu with delicious,
Inventive menu with delicious, fresh fish and meat. The bread pudding and gelato are amazing. My colleagues and I meet here six times a year and for special occasions.

Second time at Paloma. Food
Second time at Paloma. Food generally continues to be excellent. Unfortunately, one steak entree was ordered "medium rare" and came "medium well". While La Paloma has valet parking on Friday and Saturday, not available during the week and parking is not always readily available...even nearby public lots get full.
6/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband, our friend and I agree that this restaurant was very special. The food was delicious and beautifully presented - almost too pretty to eat - but that didn't stop us. The service was very good but we were there on a Wednesday night and there were few dinners. All the dishes we ordered were excellent, especially the stuffed veal roll and the crab cake. This restaurant is a BYOB which makes it very affordable. A great neighborhood find.

My girlfriend and I had only seen and heard really good things about Paloma before going there, and after our first trip, the food definitely met and surpassed expectations. We had two appetizers -- an asparagus and proscuitto caesar salad, and tuna tartare, and I was seriously eating them both going, "Oh my gosh this is so good." For entrees, I got the filet and she got the crab cake. The filet was rich and eat bite kind of melted away, not at all sinewy like steak tends to get. Normally I'm not a huge fan of crab cakes, because I love crab but a lot of times crab cakes don't taste like crab meat. But the crab cake at Paloma was delicious, I had a few bites and was really impressed. For dessert we got fresh sorbet that was unbelievable.
6/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
I loved everything about my evening at Paloma, from the warm greeting at the door, beautiful decor, friendly and knowlegable waitstaff, but mostly the incredible food. Every morsel was a complete delight. I cannot recall a more delicious meal, and I have just returned from two weeks in France where I had some amazing meals. The interplay of flavors, along with so many enticing choices, and absolutely mouth watering temptations, was marvelous. I started with the crab cerviche and was dazzled with the quantity and quality of the crab and avocado. It was almost too beautiful to eat. The main courses were even more amazing, and the deserts took our breath away. I know they must serve Barbara's bread pudding in heaven. We will be back!

Always fabulous !!! Best restaurant
Always fabulous !!! Best restaurant in the city. 100% recommendation . Always a pleasure to dine there
7/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is the best kept secret..... Don't know why it's not jammed! Had the excellent mid-wk pri fixe menu. Never had such elegantly presented and extraordinary food offered at such a great price. Chef excels at soups and sauces. We had a Haricot verts soup that was scrumptious. We also had the crab cake in a beggars purse which was delicious as well as the salmon with chipotle sauce. Do not miss Barbara, the owner's sorbets!
7/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a great experience.
Always a great experience. Food is fantastic, service is attentive and professional. Just adore this place.
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
We began with the crab ceviche and the special appetizer, a caesar salad with prosciutto. Both dishes were remarkable, each bite bright and surprising. Our entrees were the delightful Shrimp Vol-au-Vent -- creamy, rich -- and the Pechugo de Pato (the duck dish) -- complex, beautiful combination of flavors and textures. Noteworthy was the lovely presentation of the food. The dessert was less successful and didn't seem to match with the rest of the meal in terms of sophistication; we had the lime layer cake -- a special of the day. Overall, the service was excellent. We are looking forward to returning and exploring more of this unique BYOB's offerings.
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We used to go to Paloma when it was in NE Philly. The meal was incredible then and is even better now! I had the special and was well rewarded for trying it!
Our reservations were at 8:30PM on a Saturday and the drive down I-95 to the valet parking was quick and easy. (The main access street is two-way from Delaware Avenue so really easy to get in and out.)
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
We hadn't been to the new location but if the food was as creative and delicious as in the NE we would be
Very happy , we were not disappointed! The food was excellent! Although we are not fans of " spicy" foods
There is a "soft touch " of spice. The kitchen was very attentive of our " not heavy on spice ". The staff was
Very professional . We both enjoyed the meal, from the corn chowder, which had lots of different favors and
Textures. My mushroom flan was not as I remembered from the other location, but was fresh and very appealing .
My duck was tender and succulent. The white cheesecake with Mexican goat cheese
caramel innards was a perfect consistency and flavor.

Sharing Was Fun, Prix Fixe Lovely
There were five of us, and (with a little twiddling) about five of the appetizers and of the entrees in the prix fixe menu, so we each had some of everything, and rotated the plates through.
The poblano crème appetizer was the runaway favorite, the steak entrée probably the least interesting. All of it was very good.
8/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Three of us enjoyed the delight that is Paloma. Appetizers to desserts were imaginative and delicious. This is a gem of a restaurant in the heart of Philadelphia!
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
My boyfriend and I spent one night in Philadelphia and opted to eat at Paloma- picked it out from a list of top restaurants in Philadelphia. We were so glad we did!
To be honest, I was a bit confused and worried when we first arrived because the facade does not reflect the inside at all. But the dining room proved to be simple and romantic with dimmer lighting and the food was amazing!
We had 3 appetizers, because we couldn't narrow it down, on top of our main courses! The food was excellent and well portioned, the service is friendly and efficient. We had a desert and it still came out to under $100! We can't wait to go back to Philadelphia to eat here again!
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
A Neighborhood Gem, Indeed!
The chef/owner was born in Mexico and received culinary training in France (I was told). He uses Mexican ingredients prepared and served French style. This resulted in superb food presented exquisitely.
Paloma offers a 3 course dinner for $35.00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Considering the quality of the food and service, this is a steal.
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Innovative, excellent food
Innovative, excellent food in an unrushed, quiet setting. Attentive service, solid recommendations, and BYO all added up to a great dinner.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
A new favorite
This was my second visit to Paloma in two weeks. I am a vegetarian and found the menu very accessible. But most importantly, every course and aspect of the meal was amazing. Between my own selections and trying samples from others' plates, I've tasted the Ensalada Carmen, Corn Chowder, Mushroom Flan, Róbalo a la Veracruzana, a tiny bite of the crab cake (I'm allergic to crab and shrimp), Fettuccine Tres Colores, and a berry bread pudding with vanilla custard.
It was all utterly fantastic. Go slow so you can enjoy every bite and bites from other plates. My favorites were the corn chowder, the robalo, fettuccine and bread pudding.
I will definitely return and try not to order the same things!
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was our third time to Paloma and it has become one of our favorites. The food is wonderful and the desserts are amazing. I have never had anything quite like the strawberry habanero sorbet...it is the stuff of dreams!
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
A very pleasant evening.
My husband and I took some friends from out of town here. We had an extremely enjoyable meal. BYOB is always an attractive option to me- I love being able to bring my favorite bottle and not pay a 200% markup!
The service was fantastic, the owner comes out and speaks with you privately. Very nice touch....
They have air conditioning issues due to the age of the building and depending on where you sit, it can be chilly and they offer you shawls! Very sweet and proactive.
If you have a picky eater in your group or someone that just doesn't like different foods- look at the menu before going. It is a small menu and fish heavy- so, my husband really didn't have many options, still loved his meal (filet)
The desserts are amazing as well!!!
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Is the very best BYOB...just love it! Terrific food, caring staff, lovely venue!

The food is excellent, an interesting combination of Mexican flavors with French technique. Desserts are divine.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Like many other reviews I have read, when we first arrived, we were skeptical. The restaurant looked kind of old and there were not many guests there. Once we started eating though, I understood why they have such a high rating. The food here was excellent. Everything was executed perfectly - on par with the best restaurants in the city. Price was also quite reasonable. We will be back!

one of the best in Phila
I and my party were so pleased with Paloma that we were already planning our next visit as we waited for our car to be retrieved. Paloma puts the Michelin star Vetri restaurant in Phila to shame. We were so delighted with our dinner that we couldn't stop raving about the food all the way home which is not too far away in Washington Square but we can't wait to return. My only suggestion is that the valet parking be notified by the restaurant hostess when we are paying the bill so that the car could be brought around to the front instead of walking over to Mildred in the rain and waiting outside for the valet to return from parking someone else's car. Thanks for a memorable anniversary dinner.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Paloma is a hidden gem within the Phila. BYO restaurant scene. The cuisine is light,, sophisticated, delicious. The soups are outstanding. Desserts are all made by the Chef's wife and are delectable. The cuisine is best described as inspired by Mexican flavors and spices, but bears no resemblance to typical Mexican fare. Never crowded. Underrated. Highly recommended.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
What a treat! We love to go out to eat and love the Philadelphia restaurant scene. This was our first visit to Paloma, and we were really impressed with the menu, the server's recommendations, the food, and the desserts! I haven't tasted flavors like that before -- the combinations were all new to me, but wonderfully so. I think hardwood floors instead of the carpet would add a more modern feel to the decor, but that's the only somewhat negative thing I could say. We definitely will be back!

One of the Best Meals EVER
A must go very unique. Tastes were to die for! Our plates were totally clean when we finished. All three courses were OUTSTANDING!
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
One word discribes this unique Rest
Excellent! The food is so different from all the other restaurants in the city. The flavors work extremely well by this chef who marries Mexican/French cuisine. We just had to share every dish that came to the table and they were all very tasty! You must go and give Paloma a try. Can't wait to go back.

Food Keeps Getting More Interesting
Four of us went to Paloma on Thursday night and enjoyed some of Chef Adan's newest creations! The food
was as spectacular and as beautifully plated as ever. My friend from California said she never experienced
dining in an Haute Mexican/French fusion restaurant and she has traveled all over the globe. We are so lucky
to have Paloma in the heart of Philadelphia!
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
One of the best
Outstanding food and presentation on the plate. Mushroom flan and corn chowder for appetizers, branzino and duck breast for entrees, and orange chocolate cake for desert -- all were fabulous. Decor is upscale, with tablecloths and nice table settings. Will return.

Six Happy People
Went with friends on a Saturday evening and we were delighted that the noise
level was low enough that were all were able to hear one another.
We all ordered different appetizers and shared tastes to be sure that we were as
happy with our choice as we could be. We were! The new menu was excellent,
a fish from the Amazon with mango and avacado was outstanding!
The corn chowder, mushroom flan and lump crabmeat appetizer was delicious.
We shared chocolate / orange cake and blueberry/ lemon pound cake to end a
Devine meal. We will return soon! The price was fare for the quality of the food.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
fish selection overweighted
fish selection overweighted the menu. Steak and duck seemed the only other real choices. All food was well prepared and creatively flavored.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food at this white-tablecloth Mexican is unlike any other restaurant I've ever experienced. Creative dishes beautifully prepared. The soups and the sauces are absolutely out of this world. Don't miss the house-made sorbets and gelatos, which are made in an array of interesting flavors and are delicious!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Not your typical Mexican food
Outstanding! Each dish had layers of flavor that left my tastebuds wanting more. I started with the corn chowder and this was the best I've had to date. Mushroom risotto for my main entrée had just the right amount of truffle oil. Finish with one of their homemade desserts. I highly recommend for any foodie.

New Fall Menu is a Winner!
Our meals were fabulous as always but the new Fall menu is really wonderful!
Chef Adan never fails to surprise and delight our taste buds!

Great BYO for Mexican, Philadelphia
Had a great dining experience at Paloma this week. This quiet and under the radar gem is making Mexican food prepared in a sophisticated European style (not tacos and guacamole). I love that I get to dine Mexican with table cloth and wine glasses which makes the experience elegant. Also, the prices are very affordable and the weekday price fix is a very good value + the restaurant is BYOB. I recommend this for a nice night out any day of the week!

One of My All Time Favorites
Paloma is such a treasure. We went for my husband's birthday with my family. Most of us ordered off of the prix fixe menu, which is a great value. There wasn't a single dish that came out of the kitchen not looking like a work of art. And, while looks can be deceiving, this was not the case with any of the food. It truly tasted as good as it looked. The service was top-notch and the ambience was laid back, relaxed and nice.
I would recommend this restaurant if you like amazing food, a relaxed ambience and personalized attention!!
Thank you Paloma for making my husband's birthday such a wonderful occasion :)

Great food great service
Innovative menu. Great food. Byob. Excellent service. Go with baked specialties for dessert instead of sorbets. Excellent Mexican coffee. We'll be back next time we are in Philadelphia.

Let Paloma make it a special night
We had been to Paloma once before. We decided we wanted to invite my friend and her husband to dine at Paloma to celebrate her recent retirement. The four of us chose the prix-fix dinner -there is enough choice in Paloma's menu to the point that we ordered 4 different main courses. Everything was cooked to perfection and superbly presented. The pace was relaxed and gave us ample time to enjoy a relaxed conversation. The waiters were attentive to our need, but not overbearing. One of the owners, Barbara, came to say hello and introduce a delicious and hot habanero sauce; later she gave us the dessert list. We definitely enjoyed the evening. So as my title says: Want your soiree to be really special... go to Paloma
11/18/2013 4:00:00 PM

I have been here several times, and the food is always fabulous! The appetizers are creative and delicious, the entrees are prepared to perfection and Barbara creates the best and most original sorbets I have ever tasted!.

The only reason I gave Paloma a 4 was because of the layout of the restaurant. Our table felt like an after thought outside the kitchen. The food however was so interesting and delicious, a truly a fun meal. Our waiter was excellent and attentive. If you like interesting food that will WOW you, you'll love this spot.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Unique South Philly spot
Unique and delicious... The hot sauce was a great addition for the bread and food.
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
It's hard to pass up the menu items in favor of the tempting specials, so the indecision over known vs. unknown might be the only bad moment at Paloma. The fish and shellfish dishes are our special favorites, including the crab castillo, the shrimp in puff pastry and any of the delectable fin fish. Salads are always imaginative and well prepared. The trio of sorbet dessert was especially wonderful Saturday.
