nice decor and wine list
Food was just good but decor was excellent. Wine list was also very nice with a 50% off special on bottles. The service was good but too attentive with people clearing plates too eagerly. But overall a very nice experience.

Food, service, and ambiance
Food, service, and ambiance were all great when a friend and I met for lunch. Each of us had a salad and would both recommend our selections -- Nicoise and Lyonnaise. This is the lobby restaurant on the 12th floor of a hotel so it's an open space, not an intimate dining room. But it's comfortable, not rushed, and a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. It's pricey, though maybe not more so than other hotel dining rooms.

First, the restaurant was very accomodating as traffic delayed us 1 hour from our reservation. Once there, dinner was lovely - I had the wild salmon with artichokes - delicious. My friend had the roasted chicken which she said was excellent. Our server David was very knowledgeable about the menu offerings.

Great place, great food and great service, especially from David, our server. Does not seem to get the notoriety of many other places in the area, but its good food, service and ambience....another example of how hotel food has become so good, local people will come.

Great Food, Great Ambiance, BUT
My wife and i had dinner there last night.
The French onion soup is the best I ever had in the United States. It compares to some of the great ones in Montreal and Quebec City.
Our main courses were trout and wild salmon and they were delicious.
Everything was wonderful. But, for having reasonable food prices there beverage prices are just too high. A small bottle of diet coke was $5 and a lemonade $6.
If a restaurant is trying to lure people in with reasonable prices, screwing us over on soft drinks just turns us off. I was planning to make deca a regular restaurant for lunch or dinner, but now with $5 for a lemonade, count me out.

My friend and I arrived for tea. I didn't realize that she was gluten free and a lot of the tea menu has flour in it. The staff very graciously accommodated her request, coming up with a vegetable sandwich on gluten free bread, a gluten free muffin and a bowl of fruit. The service was prompt, and there was no recriminations for not warning them ahead of time about the dietary issues. All staff were very hospitable. We had an excellent afternoon. Beth

Romantic late lunch
Went here after a spa day with my girl at the four seasons. The water sound from the fountain was relaxing. The French onion soup is outstanding. The burger was undercooked, but refired and was tasty. The health and happiness cocktail was very good.

Everything about our experience
Everything about our experience here was great. Our waiter was a real gem, really enjoyed his personality and the service that was provided. The food was excellent and we really loved the ambiance of the restaraunt. There was live piano music being played in the bar area which was the perfect volume to add to the beautiful setting.

Short on Easter?
Very disappointing experience for a Ritz Carlton- Four Seasons!!! The check-in for our one o'clock Easter reservation appeared to be staffed by 1 person. The area in front of the fountain, which was home to the Seafood stations, was packed with dozens of families waiting to be seated making it difficult for seated guests to access the stations. We were seated on the west side of the fountain. Perhaps there were 4 other tables with guests seated. We sat for a good ten minutes before our waiter came to our table. Perhaps he was not a regular on the staff which would explain his awkward explanation of the buffet stations. The staff behind the food stations were delightful and helpful. Visually the food was spectacular as was the quality.

You'd think for $150, I could get a decent cup of coffee with my brunch. I got one, had to wait several minutes for cream, which was curdled. After sitting there for nearly an hour and no refill, I went to the bar for another cup, which was ice cold. Disappointing service to say the least. The food, however, was absolutely delicious, and the staff preparing omelettes/breakfast and carving meat were great.

WE went to Deca for my daughter-in-laws birthday- 5 people including a 5 year-old and a `14 year old. The food was exceptional, especially the halibut and the salmon. Also, the desserts were delicious. A wonderful meal and a kid friendly place.

Loved the ambience
We have been living (and eating) in Chicago for almost 10 years and we had yet to dine at the Ritz until recently. We were pleasantly surprised by our new find in deca and plan on going back. We really enjoyed the ambience, sitting off to the side of the atrium. It was quiet enough to have an intimate conversation but the background noise of the running fountain and the passers-by created a great atmosphere. The food was very good overall, but unfortunately was overshadowed by the halibut that came out a little gummy. But we sent it back to be cooked a touch more and there was no problem. And our server seemed very rushed even though there were empty tables around. Perhaps they were understaffed.

Changes diminish enjoyment of Deca
The new wine menu is a huge disappointment to people who had enjoyed the extensive wines by the glass list for years. I am no longer rating Deca highly for its notable wines by the glass list - it's now on par with lots of places. The selection no longer includes some of my personal favorites like the simple but lovely Cote du Rhone. . . .
Service was very nice, but a little slow given how few other diners were there.
I'm happy to see flowers back in the main lobby, although it looks like a pared down Sofitel-style presentation.
BE PREPARED TO PAY $32 for parking just for a dinner visit - validation for a Deca visit is no longer offered. Printing desserts upside down on the menu is annoying - not cute or catchy.

Great spot for food & ambience
As you walk in, you can't miss a water fountain followed by the bar area. To the right you will notice the sit down restaurant side.
The serveuse was very cordial and prompt to sit us and call us by the name we provided in our reservation.
If you are not visiting the bar, I would highly recommend a tour of the deck specially by night.
If you are pressed for time, I wouldn't recommend the sit-down restaurant for dinner.
The food was very tasty and one gets a nice amount of food for the amount paid. Steak and tortellini were our main dishes and were very satisfied with the food. The steak is served with fries (very odd for a french-cuisine restaurant) but they are very tasty.
5/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
It was just what I was looking for, a hearty and good quality breakfast in a very nice but not too formal place, convenient for shopping and a quick exit. The service was good. Lamb sausage was excellent, and I really appreciated the real maple syrup.

Father's Day Brunch
We celebrated Father's Day Brunch here and had a wonderful time. The buffet was extensive. Our server was very attentive. There is an outdoor seating area, but we chose to sit inside. The dining room is beautiful.

Chef Mark Payne's menu does not disappoint lovers of foie gras. Seared foie gras appetizer, wagyu burger with foie gras - Absolutely to die for.

Not what I expected...
To rate this restaurant you really must separate the inside dining (Deca) (literally an extension of the hotel lobby) and the Dec outdoor bar on 12th floor patio. The restaurant was very uninviting. it looked like an old Las Vegas hotel buffet. The patio was quite the opposite. It was beautiful with many different seating options for 2 or larger tables that could accomodate a small group. With the John Hancock and Water Tower buildings as the backdrop, the space had a very dramatic, contemporary, urban feel. The food was limited, but creative and good. My personal favorite would be the french fries already filled with catsup which were part of " 'Dec'eivng Fish Fry" ! By-pass the restaurant, go right to the bar.

We celebrated our anniversary
We celebrated our anniversary by spending the weekend at the hotel and since we had a late check in, we figured Deca would be a great spot for a late dinner to wrap the day. Great choice. We were seated immediately, offer complementary champagne for our anniversary, and were treated to a great meal at reasonable prices for a restaurant not only on the Gold Coast, but inside the Ritz-Carlton. We would go again in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!

Fairly casual dining in an opulent setting. Food and service were both good. Opted for a drink at the bar first and that too was good. We took advantage of 1/2 price bottles of wine. It was a nice evening.

Wonderful but very expensive
Everything was perfect: the bread, nice and warm with a perfect crust, the salad with roasted beets, and even the iced tea was fabulous. We paid $75 for 2 salads, one sparkling water and one iced tea. The service was impeccable, and eating next to the fountain made it very relaxing. This is truly a special occasion outing.

This restaurant has become a favorite. The food here is always excellent. I have tried so many things and each and every item is so good. A beautiful place to dine with an elegant atmosphere and wonderful service.

We sat outside at The Dec (not inside at Deca). The snacks are delish but are in teensy tiny portions. Drinks are delish and the staff is very competent. This is a neighborhood place for me so I frequent the place fairly often. It's a fave.

Great service, wonderful food. The openness to the lobby area made for a noisy dinner; energetic guests with loud conversations make the farthest away booths most attractive.

Prefect for pre-theater
If you are on your way to LookingGlass or the Broadway Theater (literally next door) this is ideal. Very.good food and daily specials--the skate wing we had was excellent--and exceptional desserts.

lunch at the Ritz
We were seated immediately--on the side near the fountain. Food was excellent (mushroom quiche and very fresh salad). Nice wine.
Our server, George, was a delight. We were especially impressed with the fact that when, upon request, he took our picture (my friend keeps an "occasion" book filled with visual memories), he noted that he probably took it from the wrong angle, with his back to the fountain. It was his idea to take another shot to include the fountain as a more appealing background.
Hang on to George! He'll bring your visitors back.

Inspired turkey burger presentation
The lunch menu currently includes a juicy turkey burger topped with roasted poblano peppers which was absolutely delicious. Instead of being accompanied by the fries in a brown paper cone that comes with the other burgers, it arrives with crudités served in a brown paper cone and an avocado aioli for dipping.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
The last time I ate at the Ritz was for an overpriced breakfast and before that, for an overpriced brunch. Deca was wonderful--great food. Took the new Michelin list of bib gourmand in Chicago.

A wonderful experience
In the interest of full disclosure, I was invited to this restaurant by one of it's employees, who is a good friend of mine, while I was in Chicago for a short trip. I'm also not used to fine dining, being a person who regularly visits casual dining chains where you're left to search for servers after you've been seated.
However, the rest of the staff was not aware of my relationship to their colleague until coming out to meet me during the meal. I certainly felt that the staff treated me with the utmost of respect, and I was even taken aback at the amount of service that I received. They truly made me feel as if I was a welcome guest that they hoped would visit again.

Practical Delicious French
French dining in Chicago can be pricey but not at Decca. Flavorful french food at decent prices. Beautiful scenery, comfortable setting, great service. I loved the wine 1/2 off specials, it makes sense to pay that much for a bottle of wine it's 1/2 off. I had the filet that was cooked to perfection. My husband had the lobster thermidor that was very tasty. We shared smashed garlic butter potatoes and cauliflower. Excellent meal.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
puttin' on the ritz
My husband, son, and I had Thanksgiving dinner here. The buffet was spectacular! But the price -- $557 (gratuity included)
was way over what we thought we'd pay -- that's half a one-way ticket to Hawaii!
So, great, but never again.

Tradition as you'd expect
Very reliable good service, nice menu choices, pleasant surroundings. We had a larger group at a round table in the separate room, which worked well. When we are fewer, it's nice in the main lobby dining area. If you're prepared for the prices you will like being well treated in a nice setting.
