Great and easy spot a solidly good pre-theater meal. Nice ambience, great service, good selection on the menu.

Using local and sustainable ingredients, the menu at Revival is different every evening. This time I had the pork chop which was amazingly juicy and delicious. I would definitely recommend the french fries with blue cheese aioli as a side dish! Our waitress was very helpful in timing our dinner as we were going to the theatre directly after dinner and couldn't be late.

East Bay Gem
This was our first time at Revival Bar & Restaurant. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and helpful, and the food was great. We started with a peach and fig salad on greens with pecans and feta, and it was delicious. I ordered the local Atlantic salmon with kimchee vegetables, and my friend ordered the pork chop on greens with string beans. We shared tastes of each other's selection. The salmon was amazing, but the treatment and flavors of both entrees were really excellent. The decor and ambiance is generally pretty good. It got a little noisy as our dinner wore on; but it was mostly bearable. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant.

An excellent meal
Four of us had dinner here on Saturday. We shared a Duck Flatbread to start which was plenty for the 4 of us and we quite tasty. For the main course, 2 of us had the salmon which was perfectly cooked (the thick pieces of Salmon were medium rare, just the way we like them). The sauce topped with Kimchee was an interesting twist and delicious. One person ordered the braised beef which she felt was very tasty and would order it again the next time she visited the restaurant. And finally one person ordered the mixed grill. Goat meat can sometimes be dry and she was a little disappointed with her dinner. She did enjoy the sausage however.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Food was exceptional and very creative!!! Service was unfortunately fair to poor! Cocktails were great and wine list was very good and reasonably priced. Will definitely return but hopefully have a more attentive waiter!!!

The Best of Berkeley
Having a delightful, moderately priced, gourmet find in downtown, near both Berkeley Rep, Aurora and the movie theaters, is a real treat. The presentation is appealing; the small food plates were delicious and we were not rushed by a very attentive waiter. We had early reservations and ate a very leisurely meal before attending theater.
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
We took our server's advice and ordered the aged steak. It was fantastic. Out-and-out fabulous dinner with great service (in spite of their being extraordinarily busy because of the Cal game).

Very enjoyable experience.
Very enjoyable experience. Liked the specialized drink menu.

Dinner at Revival Bar and Kitchen
Very enjoyable dining experience. This was the second time that i have visited this restaurant.
There were just 2 of us and we had really excellent service from Aaron. He was attentive and very pleasant - I am not easy to please and he put us both at ease. Food was very good. Prices fair. It was a little noisy; mostly loud females in bar laughing like hyenas. I'll go back again, next time in Berkeley.

Everything so delicious - salads are particularly wonderful and thoughtfully composed. Also, don't miss the fig + duck flat bread. The meats are expertly handled - 5 of us split the duck, goat, mixed grill and pork chops, everyone loved their dishes.
Plus dessert was heavenly, esp the clever bowl w chocolate ganache, and a tasty plum tartlet number...

Great place to overindulge
Excellent place to go when you want to feel spoiled. Super cocktails and yummy grub. Love the charcuterie. Thoroughly enjoyed the pork chops. The dessert menu looked fab but we just couldn't fit it in!
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were there for a pre-theatre dinner - with a caste member.
Our waiter zeroed-in on this and made sure we got slick service from the kitchen when there was a lot of pressure.
And.... the food didn't suffer.
I like this place.

Great Caesar's Goat!
We picked Revival for a night out with friends after looking at the menu. We had a fabulous dinner and the service was perfect--attentive but not cloying. One of the interesting things is the goat on the menu. I'd had goat before in Monterrey Mexico where it is the preferred meat but the rest of our group had never had it. Revival served it perfectly. Not overdone, and as chops which you don't often see. My husband, a lamb aficionado, has converted to a goat fan. We will definitely go there again.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food and service, but overall, too trendy, too pricey, and WAY too loud.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
A very Berkeley type menu.
A very Berkeley type menu. For example, two goat dishes - I had the goat/pork mixed grill and it was superb. If you go, be prepared to explore new tastes.

Our go-to before the theater
We love relaxing over a bottle of wine or cava here before the theater. This time we tried the country pâté plate - two large pieces of country pâté - well seasoned and not too fatty - served on a small wooden cutting board with homemade grainy mustard, housemade pickles and a savory compote, along with several thin slices of toasted baguette. Our second course was the fennel sausage flatbread with leek, baby kale and other goodies on a thin, soft, just-right-chewy dough/crust. Instead of a sweet final course, we opted for the cow cheese from Nicasio, served with seasoned almonds. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. Water glasses were promptly refilled.

Great Pre-Theatre Option
Great cocktail menu and wine list. Charcuteurie plate was amazing and the pickles, mustard and house jam complete a mini feast for eyes and stomach. Salads and Entrees were just as pleasing. Dessert was good. Malted Mousse, but honey overpowered the mousse slightly. Wait staff was attentive and mindful of our theatre timing.

Service: Great attention to detail. Server made sure at first visit of what our expectations were....did we have theatre tickets and what time was curtain? Perfect. Deflected any worries about timing.
Food: Exceptional. The mixed grill was a memorable taste sensation consisting of Goat and Pork....magnificent! The server explained that it may have been the last goat meat that the restaurant will serve for quite some time if they are not able to find a suitable supplier of locally raised goats. This info made us feel special and "invited" in to the "know."

well worth a visit
I'd heard good things about Revival but was waiting for a special opportunity. Glad I finally got there, should have gone sooner. Excellent food, well stocked bar, very nice service.
10/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
this is my second time here.
this is my second time here. The service is excellent in every way. On a friday night it was rather noisy which made it hard to talk to my dinner companion. The menu is quite unique; it is geared toward the red meat eater but there is always and fish and vegetarian choice on the menu. Each dish is a unique flavor and done in a lovely presentation.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
We tried to get there on a Saturday night by bus, but it never showed up so we had to move back our reservation and drive. Finding parking was the only difficult part of the evening from then on out. The staff at Revival were very flexible and accommodating. The decor is inviting and inventive. We had the duck flatbread, alaskan halibut, and lamb sampler...all were exceptional! I would recommend Revival highly.

The specialty bar drinks were exceptionally creative and really tasty (this is a normally wine-only drinker speaking.) The meats were flavorful and perfectly prepared. The restaurant was full when we went, and so was a little noisier than we'd like, but overall it's an excellent place!
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
You had me at charcutterie!
I could graze on the charcutterie plate all day. It's simply sublime. Aside from the appetizer, our salads and entrees were inventive and lovely. The service was well done.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love the Pork fixings and general meat menu. They also have a wonderful bar and great vegetables and salads.
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Will be a staple
PRO: GREAT Bar. Very good charcouterie. Watermelon salad was wonderful (with fresh watermelon and pickled rind, roasted nuts, and house made feta). Duck/fig flat bread appetizer/small plate was also excellent as was the duck breast/leg confit main course. Didn't have the lamb mixed grill but the table next to us did and it looked delicious.
CON: Service was a bit rushed, this is a hopping place and it was obvious they were trying to turn over seating (we came at 7:15). We had to rather ignore the hints. Coffee was just okay and overall I thought the desert selection was the weakest course.
BOTTOM LINE: Will definitely be back - either for dinner or cocktails and small plates. Convenient for theater BUT VERY NOISY/not for romance.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
I was impressed with the quality and inventiveness of the dishes. The presentation was impressive, and everything was freshly prepared to perfection. The servers were very friendly and quite tolerant of my group's chattiness when we should have been exploring the menu. Much too loud for me, but otherwise a delightful experience.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent, very unusual
Not your standard fare. Very fresh, unique, delicious.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great place but too noisy.
Food wonderful but too loud for conversation with friends. There is so much they could do to reduce the noise. How about having a quiet room in the back when it is not being used for special parties?? I rated the noise level energetic but unbearable would be more accurate. .

What a pleasure to arrive at Revival after fighting the BART-strike induced traffic! The menu is Berkeley cutesy (goat bacon?), but the food is excellent. The waitress was very good to let us slowly wind down and take our time in ordering, have a drink, etc. This is a great place to go prior to Berkeley Rep. It is a little noisy, but not overwhelming. The menu varies over time, which is good. Next time we hope to take BART!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had tickets to Berkeley Rep--ideal location for dinner before the play. food was fab. waiter was nice enough to ask if we were going to theater but then we felt rushed by the help not the waiter. Gal hovered over our table while we finished an appetizer eager to whisk away the dish. reason i didn't give a five star for service.

I really enjoyed my dinner
I really enjoyed my dinner at Revival. I love that they offer local, sustainable, organic food when available. Their dishes are delicious, creative and well presented. Most of them are gluten-free. They even have some organic wine. Service was excellent. I will certainly come back!

Too much pork . Needs some more fish choices and some meals that are Lactose Free >the soup was good.

The food was was very good, but it is very noisy and people with hearing problems will have difficulty hearing others at the table. The decor is quite pleasing.

Dined with a colleague. The food was great, drinks were great and the service was good too. Appreciate having BART right outside the front door. Easy to get home :)
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
The wife had curried pumpkin soup and some type of fritter, both delicious. I had the best pork chop I've ever eaten, succulent and grilled to perfection. An excellent martini, gin of course.

Revival again and again
This is my 3rd time to Revival and the menu just keep getting better and better. I had the pork which was moist and amazing. I also tried a few desserts, the mango sorbet and chocolate cake contrast blew my mind. My new fav! Revival makes you feel at home like you can just relax and enjoy some amazing eats. I took my mom for her birthday and she felt like a queen.

theatre night treat
Wonderful to get good food, in a timely manner, and still make curtain at Berkeley Rep!

A new Berkeley favorite
Four women dining together do not always get the great tables or the best service, but that is what we got at Revival. We asked if we could sit in the corner instead of the table in the middle - absolutely, no problem. We had the nicest server and she was knowledgeable, but when she wasn't sure she went and checked and returned promptly. She recommended the veggie focaccia and it was amazing. We also had pâté and picked the duck on her recommendation which was fantastic. We asked for more toast and got a heaping plateful. She was aware that we needed to leave by a certain timE and made sure we kept to it without ever feeling rushed. The entrees were very good and a varied choice of wine by the glass . Great place to go.

Amy sets the bar high
We, 5 of us, have been going to Venus, Amy's first Berkeley downtown restaurant, for special occasions for years...always fresh, quality and creative food. Since Revival has been open we have probably been there 5 times. Even tho it is much larger, the standards are just as stellar as Venus. We tried the large plate of charcuterie for an appetizer for the table...wonderful flavors. Service was attentive but not overly so. Consistently one of the best restaurants in the east bay.
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
Enjoyed a very good birthday dinner at Revival. Fresh, locally sourced food. Great drinks. Knowledgable wait staff. Took dessert home (baked alaska) which turned out to be a perfect late night snack. We'll be back.

Faster delivery would help
We enjoy Revival, where the menu is fresh and innovative, and we dine there often before shows at Berkeley Rep, HOWEVER, there's frequently a long lag-time between the appetizer and the entree, which arrives lukewarm (or even cold), as if it's been sitting on the counter waiting to be picked up and brought to our table.
Most recently, a delicious risotto tasted great, but it was completely cold around the outside and had turned starchy (instead of creamy), the juices absorbed into the rice while the dish cooled off. This has happened often enough that we will henceforth tell our waitperson that if the entree doesn't arrive fresh and hot, we'll send it back -- or perhaps we should dine elsewhere…?

Theatre District Gem
I am SO glad you asked for a review -- while we enjoyed the food, THE BIG THING was how our server responded when she was informed that we had theatre tickets. Due to heavy traffic, we were delayed reaching the restaurant, but the food arrived VERY PROMPTLY and we were able to eat comfortably and still get to the performance without sprinting down the street!!

Great for pre-theater dinner
Had a great table against the far wall - not too close to overhear other conversations, and by going at 5:45, not too noisy (yet). Enjoyed a leisurely dinner starting with a bottle of cava and the savory country pâté, garnished with toasted baguette, housemade pickles and other pickled veggies and chutney. We split the fresh beet salad, a generous portion; then ordered the mixed grill - a slice of pork steak (though properly cooked it was on the dry side), a veal bratwurst and a perfectly cooked piece of lamb, accompanied by the best baby turnips (never thought I'd say that!) and little potatoes cooked in duck fat. We concluded with the white chocolate gelato with fresh basil and a cappuccino. Our server was attentive and never intrusive.

We had a fabulous night.
We had a fabulous night. I have come here for both romantic special occasions and fun nights out with friends. The ambiance seems perfect for both. The food is great--locally sourced and organic, but, for those who don't care about that, each dish was amazing. The trout was the best I have ever tasted. My whole table of 8 was happy with all that we ordered. My salad was remarkable. I love their flatbread. The chocolate pot de creme was perfect. Great bar. .

Living Up to its Potential
This restaurant has experienced a quantum-leap. Another in a series, actually. Every time we eat here feels like one of the best meals I've ever had! Revival has always been good, but lately... just superb. Highlights: artichoke & sunchoke appetizer (subtle, succulent), goat sampler (rich, tender, thoughtful accompaniments), duck (a must-have, in my book), and the Silk Road Sour cocktail (welcoming and lively). Finished with the meyer lemon meringue pie, and walked out pleased and satisfied. Service was polished, timely, and unobtrusive.
Our earlier visits to Revival showed a lot of promise, but the place was still finding its footing. They are now on solid, adventurous culinary footing. Excellent.
