High End Secret
The Carillon is surprising warm and friendly and serves excellent and well thought out food. Atmosphere and service were relaxing and the menu was innovative but very accessible to all tastes. Not so much of a show-off place, but more of a place to share fine food with people who understand what a true quality restaurant is all about. Plenty of space means you can wine & dine large groups of friends, family, or clients, but also a very nice place for a special night out (like we did for our anniversary). Felt like finding a true off-the-map secret.

Unique Menu Items
My daughter and I truly enjoyed our entire meal. We tried some new things, recommended by our very pleasant server; like pork belly and a fish called Mero. They were both excellent! I would definitely return!
5/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food and presentation was exceptional & the flavors are unique but very delicious. Much of the food is marinated and cooked for hours. Get the 3 course meal for $50.
Highly recommend the crisp pork belly (get it as an entree!) & the ahi appetizer. The olive oil beef tenderloin was delicious. The lamb was good but I didn't care for the rosemary bread pudding (it was more of a dry corn bread). We had a chocolate dessert that was very good but too small of a portion - like a single piece of chocolate. We should have gone with the servers coconut dessert recommendation because all of his recommendations were our favorites. Service is exceptional (including a very thorough education of the food being served). You'll leave very satisfied.

Magnificent Once Again
Returned to Carillon once again upon visiting Austin for the weekend and, as before, the food and service were excellent. We decided to go with the 6 course Chef's menu. Our favorite dishes were the pork belly and the crab dish, but all 6 dishes were creative and flavorful. The staff is professional and we were impressed how well they work together. Each dish brought out is described to you in detail by any one of the staff. Of the caliber of Mark's in Houston. Truly a gem in Austin.

Excellent, excellent, excellent
Though the dinner at the restaurant was pricey (3 course meal with 3 drinks, almost $200), it was well worth it. The food was prepared in a way that your taste buds were pleased on every kind of level, and your eyes too b/c the plates were like art! Great tucked away restaurant for a special occasion indeed.

A real culinary experience!
From the great view of the chefs at work in the kitchen, to the amazing wine list, the attentive service, this restaurant was a wonderful dining experience. Oh, and the food of course, exquisite!

Great for business dinner meeting
I hosted to clients for an early dinner. Our reservation was for 6:30p.m., so I am sure we were ahead of the dinner rush. This was helpful, since the noise level was at a minimum (great for doing business). The server was courteous and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list.
We all ordered the sea bass and found it to be very good and the perfect temperature. The dessert were creative and delicate to the taste.
I would recommend this gem in the middle of a college town.

One of the best
The food was some of the best I've ever had and I've eaten at all the hot spots. Watkins really takes classical concepts and adds a flare to each dish nicely. He doesn't over think it but each dish has a very memorable component. And the wine list is amazing.

Fantastic lifetime memory dining
Dinner, service and experience were truly fantastic. Would recommend to everyone looking for an exquisite experience.

What a find
Not a lot of publicity for this place. But, if you want a break from the pretentious, pack them in, very noisy, and expensive restaurants popping up in the newly minted trendy areas of Austin, head over to Carillon. Incredible menu, great wine list, and you can exhale.

Why Not the Best?
This sleek and elegant restaurant balances the need to provide a hotel menu with a truly fine approach to food. Presentation of each dish we ordered was perfect; alert to seasonal offerings, the menu included fresh heirloom tomatoes, and a special entree of fresh whole fried snapper, which I ordered. It was superb, though a bit messy - but worth the effort. My dining partner's lamb, perfect. Scallops, perfect. Sorbet for dessert - perfect. The wine list is small but excellent, and our waiter was knowledgeable about the wines and about pairings with our orders. And it was quiet. Peacefully, blessedly quiet, a rare thing in Austin restaurants.
Garage parking makes dining out so simple, and the restaurant validates your ticket.

Best kept restaurant secret
Best kept restaurant secret in Austin.
Quiet fine dining with a creative menu.
Hope they can hold on to a really great executive chef and his talented staff.
The whole place just works. That is what we like, correct? Try it. You will not be disappointed.

Wish I had found Carillon sooner!
Being a foodie and a chef, I have high standards. I may find a spot with pretty good food, but it is so loud I can't have a conversation. Carillon solved that problem. It has a classy atmosphere and the tables are well spread out so you have privacy and you don't hear the conversations next to you. Chill music and chill vibe. Great service. And the food - well, it really did impress. I even went there 2 weekends in a row. The Poke appetizer was amazing - deconstructed and delicious. The tenderloin lives up to the first part of it's name - tender beyond imagine. The pork belly - the dish not many chefs know how to do right was so succulent and melts in your mouth. Chef Josh Watkins knows what he is doing. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Very quiet and sophisticated restaurant in a new hotel. Food choices were excellent, staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Did the 3 course menu with wine pairings + dessert with tokai and had a fabulous experience.
We loved it and would recommend it to serious foodies.

One of Austin's best & creative
I have dined at the Carillon many times. It is always superb. Frankly, on my first visit a few years ago I didn't expect to find such a great restaurant in the AT&T Exec Center at UT - but the Carillon is one of the top 10 in the city. (with convenient free parking in the garage under the building.) You can pick ala cart from the delightful and delectable menu, or do the 3 course fixed price, or the 6 course. Your choice. This visit I had the sea bass, my wife the filet. Both were perfectly prepared, artful presentation and mouth watering as well. Our appetizer choices were wonderful, the salad's we chose were unique, beautiful and delicious. The little between courses touches were also nice. I'll be back again.
6/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Portions are small but very delicious. The pork belly was phenomenal. Better than any filet mignon I've ever had. It was crispy, tasty, and I'll go back just for that dish! The red snapper was a visual delight. Gourmet food guaranteed.
6/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Attention to detail. Burst of flavors with each bite!
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
I wish this were in Houston or I were in Austin, in spite of the damage it would cause to my wallet. Everything is outstanding, but in particular service like this is hard to find.
7/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were able to take advantage of the 3 courses for $50 while staying at the adjoining hotel. The food was beautiful and delicious--so good we had to ask for dessert to go! The scallops with fried yucca chips and the seared escolar were our favorites but we also enjoyed the heirloom tomato salad, seared pork belly, olive oil infused tenderloin and rack of lamb with dijon foam. Service was on point and the hostess seated us so that we could watch the open kitchen, as I asked. Just wow!

Diamond in the rough
Ive been to many a "hotel restaurant" before and its not uncommon for the hotel to hype things up, only to fall terribly terribly short... not so in this case. Service was imppeccable, and even though it seemed that every server took turns with us, each one treated the table as if it were solely their own. The food was well- presented, and extremely flavorful; only "complaint" was the lighting scheme... while muted, it was a little difficult to see some things clearly. Opted for the multi course tasting; the seafoods were served at appropriate temps (cold when needed, warm when cooked), the Mero was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Great foodie find and amazing wine list as well.

Good Food; Quiet Enough to Talk
We were there on an evening when the restaurant was not crowded. We received great service, enjoyed excellent food, and had the opportunity to talk to our friends without shouting over a loud buzz.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
The service was perfect, food
The service was perfect, food creative and easy to make reservations. Parking was valet and chefs created wonderful mixes of flavor on the eclectic menu.

The Carillon at night
A few friends and I were there for dinner and had a fantastic, memorable experience. The ambience was really comfortable, quiet and peaceful, with beautiful architecture and decorations.
The service was great! We had several servers approach the table and they were all courteous and friendly, as well as the manager. Everyone was so knowledgeable about the menu, and that certainly made our evening more enjoyable.
The food was impressive! We got 2 different 6 course meals, each course was artfully presented. Not only was the presentation beautiful, but the taste was amazing.
I particularly recommend the seared escolar, the lamb and the pork belly, like nothing I've ever eaten before, a must have if you visit The Carillon.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
From start to finish it was awesome. Oscar and Seth took great care of us and were very knowledgeable of the food they were serving. They told us about where the ingredients were from and there distinct flavors and textures . Oscar offered us drinks that he preferred one was called the heritage it had a cilantro twist to it sounds weird but it was mind blowing. Chef Josh and Charles DELIVERED!! WOW! I still can taste the seared scallops and Ahi tuna OMG. We had other delicious plates as well but those are forever seared in my mind. If you haven't been go if you have try a different combination.your tastebuds will love you FOREVER.
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
the food, the service, and the ambiance were all exemplary. We had two 6 course tasting menus and everything on it was delicious.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
My girlfriend and I decided to try out The Carillon and we were amazed on how fabulous the food was. We each choose the Six course and we both agreed that every course was amazing. On top of the food the service was exceptional. the waitstaff made us feel welcome and presented each course perfectly. I would recommend all my friends and family to eat here.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
This would be a last meal choice
I had only heard how good this place was, and now I know. It was one of those fine dining experience that is hard to compare. They start you off nice and easy, little light dishes, and then they blow you away. My favorite would have to be everything that I tasted. From the heirloom tomatoe salad to olive oil sponge cake, it was absolutely incredible how well everything was prepared.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I both enjoyed the six course tasting which was fantastic. Every dish was introduced by the staff and had great a presentation. The Hamachi Crudo was probably my favorite, although the braised beef short ribs were pretty amazing as well. The dessert had great flavor; the perfect end with a nice cappuccino! I will definitely go back to the Carillon for our next special night out!
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
great dining experience
Met with a collegue for a dinner/business meeting. Staff were attentive, food was wonderful. The meeting went well and my collegue, who is new to Austin, was impressed. We will both be dining at The Carillon again. Highly recommended, you cannot go wrong chosing this spot!

UT's Best kept secret
I recently took my mother here for her birthday. Our server was amazing and described everything we ordered in detail. Some of the best food I've had in a really long time. The Japanese Sea Bass was absolutely perfect. I highly recommend the six course taster. It gave us the opportunity to try some of the Chef's favorite dishes. The Carillon is great for romantic dinners, brunches, and groups.

6-Course Tasting worth every penny
Had a very special occasion, and took a friend here for the 6-course tasting and wine pairing. While the final bill was very expensive (we also had one drink prior to the meal, and coffee after), it was worth it. The food and wine pairings were incredible, and really fit the evening for a couple of foodies. As my friend said at the end of the evening, "This is a meal you talk about 50 years from now..."
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Food but very corporate
Excellent food and wine knowledge of staff. Decor is very corporate though. Kept expecting someone to stand up and give a team building or quarterly results speech.

The Carillon Restaurant is
The Carillon Restaurant is an excellent choice if you want an unique experience and great service. The food was perfectly prepared and our server was outstanding. I couldn't convince my party to try the six course meal but the three course meal was a good alternative. The cost of the meal was very reasonable for the quality of food and service we received. I had eaten here for lunch several times and am happy to find that dinner was just as good but on a more exquisite scale.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Why'd it take me so long?!
Hidden on the edge of UT campus and in a conference center, we never prioritized getting here. What took us so long?! The staff all greeted us as we arrived, our waiter was knowledgable and friendly, cocktails were unique and delicious, and the food was fantastic! Three outstanding courses for $50 made getting three courses the same price as two, allowing us to try even more of the chef's great work. Our guest were very particular about their food and drinks, and the waiter and chef were happy to accommodate. They said they can't wait to come back. Neither can we.

Memorable Dinner for an Anniversary
Outstanding service. Restaurant is very beautiful with its grand arches & soaring ceilings, so don't let other reviews saying "hallway" give you pause. There were a few things I didn't like about 2 of my 3 courses, but my husband was just in heaven with his so that made it worth it. Pork belly was very good. The celery on the hamachi was a very dissonant flavor to me with its other elements, so that was disappointing. Braised short ribs were cooked to perfection, but there wasn't really a side, just a few leafy greens, so three medallions was meat heavy for an entree. Husband's beef tenderloin had pureed potatoes & fried veggies that gave dish balance & variety in flavors/textures. Dessert for our anniversary was lovely.

Carillon Restaurant Experience
Had a good time with our two grownup daughters when I invited them to celebrate their mother's birthday last Friday. The food was great. All the four of us agreed that the food that each ordered was excellent. My tenderloin steak was really tender. Good piece of steak. We will be back for sure. Thanks to our servers.

Fabulous Special Occasion Place
We went to El Carillon for our anniversary and it was fantastic for a romantic night out. I recommend doing the 3-course meal because you get to try a little of everything. The risotto was delicious and the corn fritter dessert was amazing. The service was phenomenal. All the servers were very knowledgeable about the food (with a nice run-down of everything when they brought it to you) and the wine. The timing of the evening was at the perfect slow pace for an enjoyable evening of food, wine, and conversation. We will definitely be back in the future!

Fantastic food and service
Fantastic food, and service far greater than the price paid.

Best meal in Austin
I've had the pleasure of dining at most (if not all) the fine dining restaurants in Austin, and this past meal at Carillon was the best I've ever had in this town. For the past two days, I've been trying to think of ANY place where I had a better dining experience, and I just can't do it.
Do yourself a favor, do the course menu with wine pairings. But make certain you get the lamb chops... Phenomenal.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have often enjoyed the delicious lunch buffet in The Carillon, but I had no idea the treat I was in for when I dined in The Carillon for dinner. The white linen tablecloths, candlelight, and fantastic service perfectly presented the exquisite food. The Kale Salad, Sea Scallops, and Miso Marinated Mero were absolutely amazing. My boyfriend, who is vegetarian, said that the Heirloom Tomato Salad, specially created Brussels sprouts dish, and Chanterelle Mushroom Risotto was the best meal he has ever had in his life. We will absolutely be returning to enjoy another fantastic meal at The Carillon.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is my second trip here and both were fantastic. On both occasions we did the 6 course & pairing.
Some of the items were not things I would normally have ordered, which makes it that much better when I try them and they are so good. I'm not a big Sushi fan but their Escolar was wonderful. I usually avoid game but their quail was out of this world. If you get a chance to have the pork belly or the Mero ... you are in for a treat!
Don't get me started on their pairing selections... they certainly know their food and their wine here. They are not just regurgitating information, they actually know what they are talking about.
I challenge anyone to go here and not have one of the best meals they can imagine.

We were delayed for our reservation
We were delayed for our reservation, but the woman at the desk was very friendly. The menu has a lot of variety and creativity. We had the 3 course fixed price meal. Service excellent. Food excellent
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Top favorite Austin restaurant
We chose the three course option and were pleasantly surprised with every entree. We did have to tell the staff to slow down our courses bc we felt rushed however they did listen to our request. Notable-beef tartar, short ribs and miso prepared fish. I would highly recommend this place!!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Patient with the picky eaters
The chefs were exceptionally dedicated to the fact that we had multiple restrictions to our menu for the night. Not only was one of our party members pregnant but two of us were also vegetarians. Needless to say they made it all very intimate for us but it was all perfectly done and beyond beautiful!
10/21/2013 5:00:00 PM
Excellent dining in fun location on edge of UT campus. Superb chef and sommelier, outstanding food.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
Amazing food and best service
Our server was attentive, amusing, and knowledgeable. He had a conversation with us to establish our preferences in food. His advice was spot-on! The chef was, as advertised, fantastic. He was able to accommodate the dietary needs of one of us, while taking nothing away from the taste or elegant presentation of the meal. Each course, individually, was either the equal of the best, or the absolute best food, we had ever eaten in our lives, anywhere in the world. We topped everything off with a spectacular dessert and coffee. The atmosphere was pleasant and intimate. Overall, this was the best dining experience we have ever had. We will return to this very special restaurant to recreate this experience as often as possible.

Creative flavor explosions!
Simply outstanding taste, service and combinations of outstanding dishes made to perfection and great wine.

One of Austin's Best
I would rate our meals at Carrilon in the top 10 of my lifetime. Everything about it was excellent: food, wine, service, and ambience. We had the pork belly appetizer and it was the most delightful blend of taste and texture that I have ever experienced. Our server, Oskar (with a k) explained in some detail the chef's process for preparing the dish, and it was amazing.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Second time we've dined here, this time was just as amazing as the first. Do the tasting menu, it's a fantastic experience! Brynn is a great waiter too, ask for him! ;)
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
I am ashamed I have never ventured to the Carillon until now. Everything was well above par. I put it with my other favorites, Barley Swine & Salty Sow. The poached filet was a new and pleasurable experience.
