fondue is delicious! Its
fondue is delicious! Its BYOB! A very simple meal. Prices are low (relative to many in the neighborhood), but given that its basically cheese, maybe it isn't the best value in the world. But its a lovely spot. Best to go with a group whose comfortable sharing.

Great BYOB romantic spot
I love going to Taureau. I used to go to the East Village location, which was MUCH smaller than the new location. I think the combination food + fondue + byob is great. Place is cozy and romantic, food is good. Even though I think it's on the pricey side, being byob makes it equivalent or cheaper than other rest. on the same level. If you're on a romantic dinner, avoid the oils and stick with the wine broth for the 2nd course - it's delicious and you'll avoid the greasy smell.

Each of the fondues was excellent, the serving sizes were acceptable but not great and the service was very good.
Turn the music down a little though.

A wonderful gem in the West
A wonderful gem in the West Village, Taureau is one of my favorites. I've branched out a few times, but La Pyrenees fondu remains my favorite. I also love that they are BYOB. The service has always been beyond wonderful - I can't say enough good things about this place!

Tiny little place to spend
Tiny little place to spend an intimate time. Not a place to "see and be seen"...just a place to be and enjoy yourself!

Excellent but a Tight Fit
Saturday night my girlfriend and I joined my friend and his wife for 9:30pm reservation. Our table was ready upon our arrival 5 minutes early and we only waited a minute to be greeted by the host. Our waitress was amazing, helpful in explaining the ins and outs of their menu and took our wine from us to be chilled. This place is BYOB with an corkage fee, but the 1st 1 was waived due to us ordering the price fix on their menu. i recommend this to anyone and will be going again.
Only DRAWBACK i found was the size of the place. Myself being 6'11" it was a tight fit at the table & that may turn some people away; but i had a great meal & night with friends in a close intimate setting, for a fair price with excellent service.

Just as good as the first
Just as good as the first time I went. Only thing that was worse is the new corkage fee policy

we used to come in this restaurant

Yummy from start to finish
I really wanted fondue for my Birthday but didn't want to go to Artisanal again. I found Taureau and decided to give it a try. I like that it's BYO and that you can make a reservation. We did the $50 pre-fixe and started out with the truffle cheese fondue. The cheese was delicious and so were the sides (slabs of bacon, fennel sausage, and veggies). Second fondue was a choice of 2 meats that can either be cooked in broth or oil. We did oil and got the rib eye and filet mignon. Both were exceptionally tender and tasty and they came with a variety of dipping sauces. We finished the meal with the milk chocolate fondue. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back for the winter months!

Everything was delicious and I ate way too much--always a sign of a good meal! Can't want to go again.

The prix fixe menu was a little
The prix fixe menu was a little confusing, but the server explained it well. I wish that they would restore the a la carte option, because many might prefer to skip the dessert fondue (too rich after all that cheese).

This was a fondue restaurant done right. Food was delicious, the feel of the restaurant was cozy, and we just left feeling the best kind of contentment.

The restaurant is very small so, I would get reservations. The first course was a salad with croutons (the croutons are to be used with the cheese fondue which came a couple seconds after the salad). The croutons & cheese fondue (cheddar/Monterey and smoked Dutch) were very good. In addition, we also ordered apples, carrots and cauliflower to dip in the cheese (the do cook the carrots & cauliflower though - I would have preferred them uncooked). The second course we had a oil based fondue and a red wine broth fondue (the red wine fondue was seasoned nicely and went well with the filet and rib eye). The third course was the chocolate fondue which was also very good. My husband does not like fondue places but, really liked this one.

Fondue, Who Knew?
I went to this place based on Open Table reviews and was not disappointed in the least.
The fondue was delicious, all three courses. If you have never had fondue, go here and give it a try. I don't think that you will be disappointed.
To each his own, but I suggest using olive oil for the meat course.
The service was mixed. One of the servers was not helpful and bordering on rude. The other was delightful and helpful. They worked as a team, so we just asked the nice one for help when we needed it:)

Our "special occasion" short list
We've got our favorites here.... ECO with Devil's Wiff, Hanger Steak, and Dark Chocolate for the three courses. And we always bring French wine.... just because.

Fantastic birthday dinner
The wait staff bent over backwards to accommodate our requests and even sent out a special birthday treat to our table

The cheese fondue is my favorite!
Lovely spot in SW Soho--we loved the cheese fondue--we got the Pyrenees, and the chocolate fondue is decadent. We got the filet and the pork for our meats--and preferred the filet over the pork. I would have liked a little more meat, although if we had a cheese-only option, I would go for that. We'll be back again!

My sister was in town visiting for her birthday weekend and I wanted to take her somewhere nice but not crazy expensive. Also as she never had fondue before I figured it was time for her to try it. Taureau was the perfect place. Our table of four left the restaurant happy and completely satisfied with all our choices. The staff was pleasant and even embarrassed my sister by singing happy birthday after I casually mentioned it was a birthday dinner. Overall I highly recommend Taureau to anyone who wants a great evening and a delicious meal!

Fondue is a special treat and Taureau lives up to that.

We had a nice date night/birthday dinner here on a Tuesday evening. Would recommend for a similar occasion. Food was great and portions perfect for us. Server was attentive and the restaurant host was very friendly.

Taureau was delightful from start to finish. We were seated quickly despite being a few minutes late for our reservation, even though the place wasn't deserted. The waitress gave excellent advice, though she seemed a bit overwhelmed (having 6 tables to look after will do that). Her fondue recommendation was spot on and the food was delicious. It'd have been nice if we could have had more bread to dip into the cheese in a more timely fashion, but no worries as the wait staff was a bit outnumbered. Overall, a lovely experience!
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
En general es una buena opción para comer fondee, el servicio muy amable, las raciones pequeñas, pero suficientes. Lleva tu vino preferido y disfruta la comida. Algo ruidoso ya que el local es pequeño.

Enjoyable, but cramped
We loved the food at Taureau, and the service is great. There are so many cheese fondues to pick from - we recommend the Pyrenees - and the staff is very friendly and efficient. Only complaint is that, for a place with a lot of promise for a romantic date, they have packed in too many tables so our night out for two inevitably became a double date with two strangers beside us - the tables were way to close to NOT talk to them.
But the food alone is worth going back for... And we will! Just not when we're thinking about a quiet romantic night out.

Although a small space, Taureau makes the most of it with soft lighting, great ambiance, and tables for two. The food was delicious, the wine byob, and the service friendly. Highly recommended!

Amazing 3 course Fondue!
3 Fondues in a row -- cheese, meat, and chocolate. What more could you ask for?
