a NYC dining experience
Our group of 7 enjoyed a dinner at the window, getting the full New York dining experience. the seafood pasta special was delicious. every plate was wiped clean. The water glasses were filled often which is a mark of excellent service.

This was my second visit to Cara Mia and the experience was just as wonderful as the first.
I brought along a friend who enjoyed it as much as I did.

If you're looking for a great meal near the theatre district, Cara Mia is tops. Great Italian food at great prices. Nice ambiance and great service. The prix fixe is a real bargain.

Our group of nine arrived before a show to be greeted with friendly service and a quaint dining setting. To our surprise, not only was the service fantastic, but the food was amazing. The fish dishes were amazing and the portions were perfect. We enjoyed appetizers, wine dinner and dessert. We never felt rushed and conversations could be heard. Thank you. We will be back.

Food was full of flavor. Menu selection was perfect. I wanted to try some of the other pasta or meat dishes, but had to try from the homemade selection first. Service was good, room was a bit cramped however, but we enjoyed being in the corner.

Cara Mia is a small restaurant on 9th avenue in the theater district. The food was delicious. The service was great. The prices were good. It was Avery easy going restaurant that we would definitely go to again.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Overall very pleasant experience, food and service excellent.
Could use some less "run of the mill" choices for dessert.
lack of cocktails hurt, especially since there are aperitif/amaro posters adorning the walls...
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Given that I have been to Italy, the food is amazing. Very authentic Italian food.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Off the menu
I requested an item that was not on the menu and they accommodated my request. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. Would definitely go there again.

Been back many times and will go back again! Steak Fiorentina is my favorite, but the specials are tempting all the time!

What a Surprise!
We chose Cara Mia because of its proximity to our Sunday matinee, but were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful menu. The food was served hot and nicely presented and our waiter couldn't have been more attentive to our party of six. The oysters were outstanding and VERY reasonably priced. Definitely a return visit!

Like a diamond
Great things do come in small packages. This small restaurant provides excellent, attentive service while serving perfectly prepared italian staples. the carbonara is excellent as is the Salimbocca. Reasonably priced wine list makes it a perfect diner. Can't miss. A place to go again and again. Perfect for the theater or just for a nice meal. Nice sized portions , excellent bread, without busting the bank. As an Italian American who cooks great meals i was pleasantly surprised.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cara Mia offers solid food, including fresh pasta at quite reasonable prices with friendly attentive service.

Unpretentious Little Find
Cara Mia was recommended to me by someone I met in Denver who grew up in NYC. He said it is one of his favorite authentic Italian restaurants, and he was anxious for me to try it. Now I, being the grand daughter of an Italian born chef, can be pretty hard to please when it comes to southern Italian cuisine but this was a great find for inexpensive, pre-theatre dining. Located just steps away from the Broadway theatre district, Cara Mia has many lovely choices of homemade pasta, fish, meats, antipasti and salads. The wine list was gorgeous with many options crafted in Italy. The prices for wine and meals are some of the best I've found in New York, which makes this place that much more desirable. I had the pasta with wild boar and it was fab

Great food at a great price.
Great food at a great price. Very reasonable prix fixe!

Very nice place
Booked reservation based on previous reviews and we weren't disappointed. It was a nice day and the front doors were open giving us the feeling we were dining outside. We were seated as soon as we arrived. The service was prompt & friendly. We had one of the specials-a ribeye steak with gorgonzola sauce that was fabulous. Another member of our party had the chicken Caesar salad and was pleased. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Three friends from a Chicago
Three friends from a Chicago grammar school, aging as gracefully as possible, enjoy a mini-reunion annually in Manhattan--that's because one lives in Long Island, one in LA and one in Chicago...and who of us wouldn't relisha 4 day weekend in the Big Apple, walking, museum-hopping, laughing, theatre-going, running (slowly) in Central Park and eating tasty Italian cuisine with red wine in a charming tiny trattoria on 9th Ave.we discovered by accident when we couldn't get seated elsewhere. Now we dine there at least once during our yearly visit.. The only drawback is the unremitting noise forcing us to shout, yet without hope of being heard. We are becoming good at lip reading and pretending to hear. But so what...we'll be back.

Ask for Sam
Dined on Oct, 6th. We were out in the city for dinner and show without the kids, which is a rarity. Even though arriving 30 min before our reservation time, we were seated promptly. Having ample time before the show, we indicated to our waiter, Sam, we would like to take our time ordering and really enjoy the food without being rushed. The food met and exceeded all of our expectations only to be topped by the service we received from Sam.
If you're thinking of a affordable quality Italian restaurant in the city, this is the place for you! Don't second guess it or your regret it.. When you do go, ask for Sam...

Dinning at Cara Mia for my
Dinning at Cara Mia for my cousins birthday was very good. Our waiter Sam and his crew were on top of things. The food was delicious, and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that is going to the theater. It's very convienient. I have also dined at Maria Pia and would recommend that restaurant also.

Lunch before the theater fixed
Lunch before the theater fixed price menu was perfect for a group of ladies! Food was well prepared, hot and delicious. Wait staff is courteous and quick. A little gem.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good atmosphere, food, service.
Cara Mia has a lively, comfortable atmosphere with amazingly prompt, friendly service. We had two different risottos, both excellent. Highly recommended for pre-theater.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
The staff was pleasant and very accommodating as we were running late for a broadway show. They attended to our needs and the food was delicious.

Great place in the middle of chaos
9th Ave in NYC has so many options, but Cara Mia is an outstanding choice if you are in the area. A very accommodating place as I have an allergy and they take the time to figure out what I can have or make something around me. Absolutely amazing!!!! Food is done perfectly and service is very sweet.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM

Delicious. Prix fixe had variety of choices, large portions and good value.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was truly a gem. We walked pass this restaurant many times in the past without even noticing it and if it wasn"t for open tables we would never have gone into it. Everything was outstanding from the service, the food the atmosphere, the price of the weekly lunch specials. etc.
We will definitely go back there again. Even the location near the theater district is ideal.

What a find!
You have to try Cara Mia! My group of 4 had a fantastic dinner. We chose the fix price dinner options - appetizer mussels were excellent and generous portion, chicken Parmesan was outstanding, Tilapia really tasty and the two pasta dinners were done to perfection. The wine list was generously priced and the ricotta cheesecake for dessert was just perfect. The place is small but comfortable and the service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back. Thank you Cara Mia for such a great dinner experience.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great traditional Italian food
Also great prix fixe - good food and can't beat the price for pre-theatre!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food great, service lacking
Seems to be some confusion among employees. Called to get a 6pm reservation, they said they were booked solid, but was able to get a reservation through open table. However, the reservation didn't seem to matter because they took forever to seat us. Waiter wasn't very attentive, but food was great. Good restaurant for right before a Broadway show because of location.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our group of four enjoyed Cara Mia. I ordered a pasta and my husband ordered chicken - both were very good. The creme brulee was ok - it didn't have the hard top that creme brulee always has and was not great, but not bad. Our friends also ordered pasta and salads and enjoyed it.
10/26/2013 5:00:00 PM
My friends and I often lunch here before Wednesday matinees. We were pleased to see a good crowd of diners; we felt that this indicated that the restaurant was becoming more popular. We arrived later than anticipated, but were assisted in enjoying our meals without hurrying. We noted that there was a new price structure and learned that the restaurant had changed owners. There didn't seem to be any decline in quality.

Friday night before the Marathon
The staff is friendly, food was really good. It is a wonderful place.
The only drawback was our seat location.
We were next to the front desk & were assured that people would not need to access it during our meal.
They needed to get to it when we were finishing desert.
We did linger but our friends were from out of town so we wanted to catch up and also enjoy the NYC atmosphere.
Definitely would go back.
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
worth a return visit!!
The food was delicious! Portion sizes were abundant! The wait staff was friendly and efficient. I visited this restaurant 5 years ago and returned recently hoping it was still a great place to eat....was not disappointed! I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family!

Carb loading paradise
My 2 running friends and I ate here the night before the NYC Marathon. We all had pasta. Everyone's dish was delicious. The pasta was homemade and the food came out very fast. My only criticism is that the tables are so tightly packed the person behind me kept slamming the back of his chair into mine. But I guess that's NY for you. Great food and reasonable cost though!

Great little spot
thought of Cara Mia when meeting a friend who wanted to meet within walking distance around Midtown/Port Authority.
Went on a weeknight- 5:30 pm- it was almost empty but gradually filled up during our dinner.
Received prompt, courteous and friendly service.
Great menu- classic/traditional Italian "with a twist"
I had an Ensalada Blanco- fresh and delicious. And a chicken special w/ ricotta, spinach, and prosciutto rolled into a chicken breast with a light sauce and mushrooms.
I had a nice glass of Montepulciano- very reasonably priced by NYC standards.
My friend had a casear and the Veal marsala and said it was excellent. We both couldn't quite finish as portions were big.
I plan to try the other spots this group owns in NYC
11/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was great. Only complaint was it was crowded. Tables too close together
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
lovely neighborhood restaurant
Enjoyed our preshow dinner here. Since it was early we had our choice of tables. Bread served w/olive oil was tasty. We shared for an appy- tagletteli w/pancetta,onions and a extremely delicious cream sauce. Sauce had a hint of brandy flavor .
DH had veal scallapini and I had the calamari and shrimp with a pink sauce. Both dishes were well prepared and tasty. Came w/side of roast potato and brocalli.
Service was very good and non intrusive.
restaurant is on 9th Ave it is right around the corner from restaurant row. Well worth the few extra steps to eat here

Experience exceeded expectations
Dining experience was convenient and comfortable. Service was prompt and very pleasant.
Food was delicious. We plan to always return here for dinner when in this neighborhood.

I'm a return patron of Cara Mia because I've always been satisfied with the whole dining experience there. We're greeted warmly at the door and a server promptly appears after we're settled in at our table. The wine is nice and the food is very good. The portions are generous enough. It's good to go there before a show because you're sure to be taken care of efficiently without feeling rushed. I recommend Cara Mia because it's a place for a good Italian meal that leaves you feeling satisfied.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food! But the atmosphere...
The atmosphere was ruined by the tourists. There was a huge table by us with loud, bratty children who ruined the meal for us. In no way is this the fault of the restaurant. The service is amazing, the food is great (if you want some Italian fare nearby Times Square this place is the best!!!) Anyhow, yes, it was noisy, but I guess you have to expect that in this area. I ate there another evening when the place wasn't filed, and it was so pleasant. Really, go to Cara Mia, it's a great restaurant.

A cozy place on a rainy night
We went to dinner after seeing a show during a the week. It was a very rainy, windy night. What a relief to step into a cozy restaurant and be waited on promptly. The food was delicious and the service was gracious. I had red sangria, which was listed as a special that evening and it was excellent. My pasta and wild boar dinner warmed me up on a cold night. We will be back the next time we have a chance to visit the area.

Simple and good.
We were looking for a restaurant that would be able to honor a 7 person reservation on a Saturday night, fairly last minute. I haven't been here in years, but I remembered it was good, fairly inexpensive (for midtown) and I knew it wouldn't be packed. The service was fine, wine list isn't big, menu isn't big either but the selections were delicious - everyone was happy with their dishes (desserts could be a bit updated though). Overall, if you're looking for good italian food (and even in NYC, this can be hard to find) without breaking the bank, I recommend!

Oh mia my
Definitely go here pre-theater. Good food, fresh pasta. Excellent service. Right prices. Can't be beat.
