An all around great experience. Servers are friendly and professional. The food was well received by all in our group. The Hama Hama oysters were outstanding as were the filets and the daily special beef stroganoff. No beef with the beef! The pasta with pesto and fried potatoes sounds odd, but is a great dish if you don't mind a few carbs. The coconut cake sent us on a nice trip to Honolulu, minus the travel time. I would like to see a few better values on the wine list, given it is a stone's throw from some of the best wine makers around, but that's my only beef. Top notch.

Best restaurant in Carpenteria
We have dined at Sly's on a number of occasions and have always had a good experience. The food and service are great. Also great is the menu selection. Sly's has the feel of a S.F. restaurant . Highly recommend!

Our food was really good,
Our food was really good, and the service was excellent. One of our party is a toddler, so I requested a high chair or booster, and it was in place when we arrived--along with a kid's menu. Our server brought a 'kid-friendly' water instead of the regular water glass as well. Everyone was friendly and attentive and dietary concerns were addressed with concern.
This is not my first visit to Sly's and it has been consistently good. I will certainly be back again.

Special dinner with family...
Great dinner with family, Grandson home from college for weekend, really appreciated James
preparing a special fried chicken dinner for us, saved me from having to get out the frying pans!!!
We always enjoy SLY'S, we live 5 minutes away, it's like a home away from home and the food

I was looking for someplace
I was looking for someplace in the Santa Barbara area to take my husband to dinner for his birthday. I found Sly's on a website about restaurants in that area and chose Sly's in part because of the high marks other Open Table users had given it. I was not disappointed. The main courses are very traditional, but the appetizers and sides are inventive. Absolutely everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. The service was great and we were not rushed, which was good thing as I really needed a break before dessert. We met the owners on our way out -- lovely people. I will definitely recommend the place and would eat there again if I were in the area. One small quibble -- the lighting is a bit bright in the rear dining room.

Always a great experience
This is our local favorite and love it every time we go. A great variety of food so both my meat-eating husband and my vegan self can be happy.

i really like slys and go whenever in the area. always good food and good service. The steak tartar was great and there is not a lot of resturants offering it.

Old school service
Our "entertainer" Gunner was great. He was funny and informative. He explained the entire menu and even told us what not to order! The other servers were excellent and we were always served from our left, as it should be. The ambiance is rather plain but the the noise level was very good, we could hear each other converse. My carrot/ ginger soup was delicious as were my scallops. However, my friends lobster was dry and tough. Her husbands ""brick" chicken looked and smelled amazing. My husbands filet was overdone. The vegetables were all excellent. With only two cocktails the bill with tip was over $300.00; expensive when some of the food wasn't great. Gunner and the staff however made it all worth while!
5/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
This was mine and my husband's first time at Sly's and we will definetly be going back!! I have Celiac and notified them ahead of time and they were totally prepared. The waiter was very familiar with Gluten Free which was so refreshing for me and so easy!
They made me a wonderful dish and prepared it in rice flour, the salad was amazing, my husband loved his dish. What a wonderful and unique find. The Chef himself even comes out to say Hi and to see how your meal was! It was overall an A+ meal and experience.

Great food and lots of choices! Special regional menu, many sides and appetizers yield many dinner combinations and many price options. The steaks.... first class... my favorites! VERY knowledgeable and welcoming staff who know the menu inside out. Professional mixologists behind the bar with both novel and historic cocktails. James and Annie... owners, executive chef and Maitre d' are also there to greet each diner with affection. Really a great evening to be had at Sly's and really exciting that Carpinteria has such a fine reataurant!

Great birthday lunch
Took my wife and friends to Sly's for her birthday lunch. Waitress was great as was the food. Although it is about 12 miles from Santa Barbara, Sly's has become our favorite restaurant in the area.
6/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is wonderful and you have to prepared to pay for it.
Service is good. It is very loud though and not easy to hear your table mates.
Again, the food is wonderful!

6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Was here on June 10, 2013 with some important customers and Sly's was a home run! I had previously eaten here in the bar with a friend where we just had small plates but the steaks here are out of this world. My NY Strip was perfectly grilled and the cognac pepper sauce was to die for. Everyone loved their meal and I wouldn't hesitate coming back.
6/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
The menu is full of traditional old time steakhouse fare. Onion rings are spectacular. I had a shrimp cocktail that was truly the biggest prawn I have ever eaten. I could have stopped with just that "appetizer". Wonderful service. We'll be back.
6/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Despite its relatively high price for Carp, Sly's rarely disappoints. With an attentive staff, and a comfortable atmosphere Sly's can be both a beachy stop for an amazing cocktail and appetizer to a fine dining dinner experience. This is no small feat and it is made possible by the friendly staff and diversity of the menu. Whether you are in the mood for a quick burger, USDA Prime cut of beef or a refined French inspired dish, Chef Sly's menu will have something for you. With comfort foods sprinkled throughout the menu, there is an amazing dining experience awaiting everyone in small town Carpinteria!
6/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
It was a bit on the expensive
It was a bit on the expensive side as everything is ala carte. It was very delicious and everything I ate was excellent. Would have to be special occasion to go there to spend the money. All food was done to perfection so if money doesn't matter this is the place to go.
6/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
always a 10
i have been going to sly's regularly since i moved back to carpinteria 1.5 years ago. James and Annie are fantastic folks and their employee's are fantastic.
the service is always perfect, the food better than perfect. Annie and James always take the time to say hello (to every guest) and are flexible and provide a perfect environment for a great meal with the family, with friends or just swinging by to have a cocktail. In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in SB County.
my 5yr old daughter loves it there and it's one of the few places i feel comfortable with her roaming around a little as i know that the entire staff knows her and is looking out for her even when they are busy.
6/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
We like Sly's a lot and go
We like Sly's a lot and go there often. That said, there are things we'd change. We have found the chicken pie pot, otherwise delicious, to be watery. The french fries, made on the premises, are just not very good. (Fortunately, the onion rings are delicious.)
None of this keeps us away.
6/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have dined at Sly's several
We have dined at Sly's several times and always have a great experience. Their fresh and locally-sourced food menu is amazing. The atmosphere is elegant and relaxed and the menu ranges from classic to extraordinary! It's always a wonderful experience!

As always, Sly's impressed
As always, Sly's impressed us with their menu and the preparation of all of the food we consumed. I was there with my brother from Colorado, celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary, and they were also very impressed with the restaurant. James and Annie came to the table during our meal. to thank us for booking their restaurant for this special occasion. It was a wonderful touch, and we appreciated it a log

Transition House loves Sly's
Six of us had a great celebration dinner at Sly's. We were celebrating the smashing success of the 2013 Vintage Wine Affair to benefit Transition House. Sly's did the catering which got rave reviews for being so very delicious and plentiful! We love Sly's and James and Annie!

Ann & James have created a gem. Food was better than excellent. From the apetitizers to the better than heaven deserts, we were all delighted. Definitely would recommend Sly's and will surely go back when I am in Carpenteria.

5 star dining - casual atmosphere
This is some of the finest food of the west coast. The porterhouse steak is my favorite. Charred rare at a 1000 deg to perfection. The atmosphere is comfortable. I like not having to dress up and still get a special quality of service and food at the se time. The place has a unique quality that suits my family. The owner/chef always makes his rounds to the diners to be sure everyone is happy, happy, happy. You gotta try it !
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sly's always good
Great steaks, seafood, drinks without the attitude of other steak houses in the area. You can go as you are, have a great meal with attentive service. The shrimp cocktail is amazing! One of the best I have had anywhere!
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love this place!
We live in Santa Barbara and come here when we want a treat, although it is fun for a "regular" meal.
The food is always good--try the "half and half".
8/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
One of my favorites.
Great steaks, cocktails,Freddy's salad. Couldn't make room for the excellent turtle sundae. Chef Sly graciously checked his guests for their comments table side. Nice touch.

Sly's Just Never Disappoints
We go to Sly's about once a quarter. Every single time, it is absolutely excellent. And it's not cheap, so I'm holding it to a high standard. It's a formula that just works. Period.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food loved the filet
Good food loved the filet mignon didn't really like the sauce on the Cuban chicken needed to be cooked a little more I think tasted too much like wine and I personally don't like wine. Everything else was good great service still loved the place.

Bit Of Heaven In Carp
Sly's was a real find. The food was exceptional. The chef toured the tables. From the freshest oysters through to the fabulous bread pudding. Everything was delectable. Our waiter could have been the owner, he was so knowledgable and passionate about the menu. Splendid!

Visitors from sister division in L.A. were on way home. Ideal location to stop and avoid rush hour. Dinner was great and ambiance was perfect.

You can always rely on the outstanding food, service & warm reception. SLY'S is our favorite restaurant in the Santa Barbara area,
and it is only a 5 minute drive away...can't get any better than that!!

Great local restaurant
I greatly enjoyed eating at Sly's. It has a local ambiance and the service was top notch. Great daily menu makes the place only that much more special.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food & Service, but...
This place has never failed to wow me. Same is true for the other night. Cocktails were out of this world, great wine at reasonable prices, filet chili and escargot appetizers were incredible, and my girlfriend's salmon was perfect. Even the apple crisp dessert was over the top! HOWEVER, I could not give out 5 stars because a blasphemy occurred during dinner that evening. First, my bone in New York came out VERY medium instead of the medium rare I ordered. Second, when I asked the server what she thought (obviously over cooked for medium rare), she said it looked fine. I will return to give them another chance, but not totally happy with my last visit - they do call themselves a steakhouse so they need to get those right!

Sly's a great place to be
Sly's is really two restaurants in one. With reservations (via opentable) my friend and I were seated with in minutes of our reservationi n the back dining room. Exposed brick walls, with vintage racing photo's from the local area, and a view of the wine room provided quite the ambiance. The wait staff was older and very professional. Reminded me more of the East Coast in the city or in Italy, than in a beach town in California. Quite the pleasant experience. I ordered the peppered New York Strip, bake potato (ordered as a side), a moderately priced bottle of wine $55). My friend ordered the daily fish special. The tab was $175 plus tip. So, an excellent meal in nice surroundings. Also, Sly's has free Valet Parking (tip if you want).

Great as expected!
We Like to casual dining atmosphere at Sly's. The food is always, always exceptional. Our server make sure we have everything we want and goes out of his way for that purpose. We enjoy Sly's and wish we could eat there more often.
