My companion and I dined at Ristorante Milano while in San Francisco this week. We had a terrific meal at this neighborhood gem. It's a bit cozy and off the beaten path for the tourists but well worth the cab ride. Italian beers and wine only Generous but not super-sized portions. Just right.

Second time here in the last 5 months. And it was every bit as good this time around as the first time around which was on Valentine's Day. Delicious. It's a small restaurant that seems family-run - and very authentic good Italian food. The men has a good amount of variety too which I love. For instance, I love chicken, and the chicken options were all so interesting it made it hard to decide. But it also means I will definitely be going back there to try the other dishes... even though what I had was fantastic!

Our San Francisco gem
We have been going here since we found it almost 20 years ago...unfortunately we live in Houston so our trips are not as frequent as we would like. This would be our "go-to" restaurant if it was in Houston!

San Francisco Secret!
One of the best Italian restaurants I've experienced. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Food and service unsurpassed. Parking is a challenge, but is available at the corner of Polk & Pacific (one block from restaurant) for a flat fee of $10.00.

best italian in SF
I have been a returning costomer for a couple years now. The servers are excellent and the owner is more than passionate about his restaurant. The pastas fresh, meats are savoury and the vino is perfectly paired to the dishes. I send all my patrons to this great location and advise anyone looking for a great meal to stop by ristorante milano.

Italian Neighborhood Gem
Quaint Italian restaurant tucked away from the busy traffic of Polk. If you're looking for amazing homemade pasta or a romantic dining option, head over to Milanos. The burrata appetizer is an absolute must for cheese lovers!

This Italian restaurant was
This Italian restaurant was wonderful. It is small but we were seated at a table above the main dining area. The waiter was great! He helped us select a wine and was very knowledgeable about the wine list. The food was fresh and delicious. The lasagna was outstanding. We could see that this is a favorite of the locals.

I made reservations and due
I made reservations and due to a personal matter I called to change the time of the reservation 3 hours prior to my original time, the reply of the customer service person was great. I was able to change the time for my reservation. Dinner was excellent, wine was + and the overall service was amazing. I am glad i choose this location. This place is perfect for a first time date, special dinner. Very LGBT friendly. Gracias.

Pleasant first-time experience
Not what I'd consider inexpensive food but very reasonable for the quality of food and drinks. Service was very good and they always filled up your water, attentive but not interruptive. Good for special occasions or simply a nice dinner in small groups

Yummmy and Great Service
Love the classic food, great vibe and super attentive and knowledgeable staff. Thanks for a great evening

Pacific Ave Gem
Ristorante Milano is a first-rate Italian restaurant, small, intimate--a place where you are welcomed each time you return. The food is very good, always fresh, and the service is attentive and completely unpretentious. It feels like a little piece of Europe, like a family-owned trattoria.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food, attentive service
Had a great night here with my wife. Close to home, but also tucked away from the Polk and Broadway madness. The food was out of this world. Will definitely come again.

Wonderful authentic Italian!
We love this place...it's like dining in a cozy restaurant in Italy The food is wonderful and the place very welcoming. Aldo, the owner, and his staff treat you like family. Nice selection of Italian wines also.

Great food and service!
The food and service was great! The owner came up to us and asked how our food was and had a little conversation with us. I liked this and the service the most because we are a young couple that just got engaged (we are both 24 years old) and when we go to nice restaurants the waiters always have a preconceived notion that we will not tip well because we are young. I have never tipped under 20% when I go anywhere and it frustrates me when waiters treat us differently.
Anyway, I would suggest this to anyone who wants great Italian food and wants a great laid back vibe! Will definitely go back the next time Im in San Francisco!!!

Authentic Italian food in a wonderful romantic restaurant. A true treasure.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Check out the special menu addition
I love the fresh local seasonal items. The peach salad special was absolutely delicious, the squash ravioli were fabulous - partly due to the unusual crumbles on top - amaretto cookie! The halibut special was a bit overcooked, but served with a nice medley of vegetables.
8/19/2013 5:00:00 PM
Always a Favorite
Ristorante Milano features really good food and even better service. We always look forward to going there when we are visiting San Fancisco for a great time.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
All 'round terrific
The gnocchi and tiramisu were everything we were promised, and wine excellent, the ambience somehow vibrant and quiet at same time -- but it's the service I'll remember -- the host was so welcoming, the wait people gracious -- we were unhurried and well taken care of. I've told several friends already. We will be back!
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a great meal with friends here. The gnocchi and pasta were superb.
The only downer for my wife was that they had no Diet coke. She had to make do with good wine :-)
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
The restaurant is great and the food overall was very good, though I've definitely had better at other places in SF. But if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a small, romantic spot this is great.

One of the very best in SF
Intimate setting, superb Italian cuisine and exceptional service! Even better, it is reasonably priced.
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Tried Ristorante Milano for the first time and brought out-of-town family. We had a lovely experience. The Antipasto Misto and seasonal salad with strawberries and peaches were the highlights - fresh and delicious. Everything was fresh and well-prepared, including the wonderful desserts. The espresso granita with whipped cream was to die for, and my sister and her husband loved the chocolate gelato and fresh fruit sorbets. My entrée, lamb meatballs with tomato sauce and soft polenta, was the only very slight disappointment - just a touch bland, IMHO. A pasta dish with sausage, cream and porcini mushrooms was very good. I will definitely be back.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Not great ambiance but great food and outstanding service (The waiter called later that evening to determine whether cash found near our table was mine. He then called my dinner companion and it was his; VERY impressive! AND, he was a very good waiter!).
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
It's wonderful to have an excellent Italian restaurant in this neighborhood. Now open everyday, the weekend menus and Monday menus can be especially interesting. Much has been written, it's all true (if positive!!) Enjoy!

An absolute keeper on Russian Hill
I've lived on Russian Hill for 18 years but never managed to get to this place until last week. It was absolutely excellent. The food was great, true true Italian - we had the saltimbocca chicken and the pasta of the day, then shared the granita for dessert. The wait staff was impeccable and the wines were good. While I've read that the place is not "big on ambience," it's a small place that can be very romantic and has a very small alcove up above in the back of the restaurant that feels private and above it all. I definitely recommend this place highly among the scores of Italian places in San Francisco, and believe me I have been to a lot of them.

We come here every time when
We come here every time when in San Francisco. We found it on a walk years ago and liked the menu. It is small ,personal, and the food is very good. It is simply charming and wonderful!

Always a good choice!
My wife, daughter and I used a birthday gift certificate I received last year; word spread that I really like this place! The food is always top notch, with good-sized portions, fresh ingredients, and very tasty dishes. We had lamb meatballs w polenta, chicken marsala, and a veal chop (it was done perfectly!) after we shared some bruschetta, salad special and mixed plate of mushrooms, peppers, polenta w cheese, etc. Aldo picked out a nice bottle of wine for us that went perfectly with the meal (as usual).
The service is impeccable; they all work together and the food is delivered hot and things get picked up quickly when you're done, all without feeling rushed. You could go elsewhere and spend A LOT more...buy why?!?!

Having dined at Ristorante Milano for decades , it could be easy to forget how good this restaurant really is. One should not because everything about is just superior. An absolute neighborhood gem.
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Ristorante Milano is wonderful
Ristorante Milano is wonderful neighborhood Italian restaurant. We have been there a number of times and have always enjoyed it. The only negative is that parking in the area is quite difficult.
9/27/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great neighborhood Italian!
We feel like we are in Italy when we dine here......the food,is authentic (read from Italy Italian), the service is warm and friendly, and the owner Aldo.makes you feel so welcome!
The squid with white beans appetizer was delicious, ravioli tonight was filled with four cheeses... light and flavorful.....and the salmon was fresh and prepared in a tasty picata sauce.
Nice selection of Italian wines as well!

Love this spot - authentic food and people, great atmosphere. Low key, but still fabulous food and experience. Just what we were looking for.
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
We loved evey minute of our dining experience here. It reminded me of being in Europe. The service was impeccable, and we started with the strawberry pear salad, beautifully presented and delicious. Bruchetta also lovely. The best was the ravoli, the portion the presentation and it melted in my mouth, just spectacular. I really did not have high hopes for the chocolate cake desert expecting a large slice of dense low grade chocolate. I got the exact opposite, light, airy, it was one of the most memorable deserts I have had out in quite some time. Very high on my list for a great dining experience enhanced by excellent service.

Bay City standout
My wife and I went to Ristorante Milano on the last night of a vacation devoted in large part to food. We dined at Jardiniere, Flour + Water, Fish and other area standouts. This restaurant was cheaper my personal favorite. I had homemade pasta with sausage, mushrooms and cream, and it was the best meal I ate all week. The bruschetta is a must. My wife raved about her lasagna and more about greeter and wine expert Aldo. The place was full of Nob Hill locals, and I could see into the kitchen when we left. One of the chefs looked at me with raised eyebrows. I gave him a thumbs up, and a wide grin broke out on his face. Aldo simply said it was nice to meet us. Very cool. Tables are tight and it is loud, but we love this place.

This restaurant rated highly on Open Table and Expedia which got us there and we were not disappointed. The food and service were excellent.

Wonderful, warm restaurant! The best service and food you could hope for.

A real find
We happened on to this little place and couldn't have been more pleased. Great personable server, wonderful grilled calamari, sea food pasta, gnocchi. We will return and pass the good word along!
10/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The homemade pasta is outstanding. Our favorite neighborhood restaurant in San Francisco.

the real deal
If you like Italian food , this is the place. Authentic cuisine and great wines from Italy.

Ristorante Milano is one of
Ristorante Milano is one of our regular spots in SF. Good food and friendly service at a reasonable price. Parking in the area is the only draw back.
10/26/2013 5:00:00 PM
It's been about 4 years since our last visit and we had forgotten how excellent everything is at Milano. "Propio Bravo!"
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
The best thing you can say about a restaurant is that you would go back, and we definitely would. It was highly recommended to us by a local, and our friend knew what she was talking about. Particularly great were the pasta with porcini mushrooms and sausage in a cream sauce and the Tiramisu. Two thumbs way up!

One of SF's Finest
We are from Boston and visit San Francisco once or twice a year. We ALWAYS dine here...the food and service are outstanding. The kitchen is very accommodative of special requests as well.

Unbelievable experience!! Great food wine and service. Highly recommend.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Upon the recommendation of a colleague, three of us ventured up to Ristorante Milano. We had a quiet table in the rear of the restaurant and were greeted with Buona Sera. Our waiter gave us several fabulous recommendations including the beet salad which had lovely green beans, orange sections and blue cheese. Also our grilled squid with white beans was perfectly cooked. Entrees followed and each were memorable, especially the butternut squash and ricotta ravioli. Tempted by the dessert menu, the ricotta cheesecake was lovely, not too sweet and the poached pear with pear sorbet delicious. Highly recommended!

I was expecting a grander building when I booked this reservation, but what I found was perfect. Ristorante Milano is a small, charming place, and that makes for very personal attention from the staff. The staff were outstanding, top to bottom, giving just the right amount of attention when it was needed.
The menu was small but interesting, and our orders were very tasty and brought piping hot. Their wine list is heavy on Italian wines, which was nice. The nebbiolo/barbera blend we had was quite nice with our meals.
The finale was beautiful, a birthday tiramisu with happy birthday sung in Italian. I would definitely go back.
I very much recommend Ristorante Milano, whether you live in San Francisco or are just visiting.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
We couldn't have asked for more.
Natalie and staff served up a wonderful evening! It was pouring outside and we were going to be over a half hour late for our reservation. I called to see if they'd still have room for us (it's a small place) and Natalie's wonderful response was, that's no problem, take your time. Phew! We relaxed with a wonderful bottle of a Tuscan Sangiovese and Milano's unique cake-like bread and olive oil. We shared two of the special entrees which were outstanding: lasagna and veal. The tiramisu, tart, coffee and impeccable service completed the satisfying and delightful meal. Mille grazie!

My favorite San Francisco restaurant. The people are fun and friendly. I keep coming back because the food is fantastic - it is the best. In addition to the great food was the desert special - Zabaglione -which brought back great memories ... Thank you. See you soon.

Made reservations for my daughters
Made reservations for my daughters 16 B-day before taking her to see Michael Buble. We arrived about 20 min early and they were not even open yet. They brought us in and let us pick a bottle of wine and brought out some wonderful bread. The service was outstanding and food was awesome. Everything was fresh and high quality. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

great birthday dinner for my honey
I took a risk and booked Ristorante Milano without ever having been because I wanted to go someplace different for my hubby's birthday. He loves seafood, and although the restaurant is Italian it boasts great seafood and fresh ingredients all the way around. The grilled calamari was outstanding -- excellent flavor of the grill, and completely tender. The home made pasta and gnocchi did not disappoint either, and I liked that they offer a full range of prices on their wine list from 28 up past 100. Light ricotta torte and coffee granita for dessert, and we were totally satisfied. Will definitely go back to try the other things we didn't order. Parking stinks in this neighborhood, so plan accordingly.

Truffel pasta was out of this world. Fresh truffel grated table side....need I say more?
