Great authentic Spanish food. The paella and seafood dishes were great. Tapas were delicious also. Beautiful view of the Mississippi in an elegant setting. I'm a local and didn't know this place existed. Glad I know now.

Hard to find if strolling
Hard to find if strolling down the street but this hidden gem is one of the best Spanish restaurants ever. Spanish soups, paella, flan... You name it they make the best version of it. Then there is the awesome view, live music and great service that makes the great meal OUTSTANDING. I will return.

A nice unexpected find
Yes, we read the reviews about service. And while the server wasn't necessarily running circles around us- he was very attentive and took time to explain anything we had questions about. One of us is gluten free and needed to have some things checked, which he was happy to do.
The location is lovely, the restaurant is nice and the food is imaginative. We chose several tapas choices- and all were good. Some were better than good. The ceviche had nice pungent onion and garlic with large shrimp, the spicy shrimp was just spicy enough, and the cheese stuffed-wrapped olives were a revelation in salty flavors.
The sangria is very, very good- and I'm not a big fan of sangria. This is nice and spicy- fruity without being overly so.

Great food, great view!
The food was wonderful, the view overlooking the river was amazing, the service was impecable and the prices were reasonable. I would recommend Galvez for a special occasion or an evening out - bruch or dinner. Fabulous!

Food was delicious with very fresh ingredients and generous servings. Service was friendly and prompt. The only thing is that the restaurant just had 1 or 2 tables of other diners while we were there, so it wasn't very lively. Overall we really enjoyed it!

A French Quater Gem
We have eaten at Galvez a couple of times and also when it was previously "Bella Luna". The location is the best in the French Quarter with magnificent views of the French Quarter and the Mississippi River. Very Romantic to be there as the moon rises over the River ;-).
The food is fantastic. My wife had the scallops. There was three of the biggest scallops you have ever seen. The largest was the size of a fillet that you would get in most restaurants. I had the BBQ shrimp and it was great too. To top it all off we got the best view of the French Quarter Fireworks Saturday night.
Not as famous as other new Orleans Restaurants but a true gem

Heavenly smells from the kitchen
Heavenly smells from the kitchen as soon as you walk in! Delicious paella and bouillabaisse. Sangria was was too sweet, but good wines on the list. Lovely view of the Mississippi. Sat next to the piano--great music with our dinner.

Had to wait 40 minutes for table even though I had a reservation. View of Mississsippi River was great. Service was above average except for wait to be seated.

Galvez is a real hidden gem
Galvez is a real hidden gem along the river in New Orleans. It's almost impossible to find a table in the city that has a close view of the waterfront. Galvez has it!
The food is classial Spanish with New Orleans flavors. Clearly the best Spanish food in the city.
Take the time to get to Galvez when you are in New Orleans, you will always come back.

Good selection of tapas.
Good selection of tapas. Hard to choose which ones to have and both were very good. My duck (always thrilled to see duck on a menu) was great. My husband really enjoyed his paella. Nice quiet dining room. Easy to carry on a conversation while watching the big boats go down the Mississippi. Too full to try the desserts.

a pleasant surprise
We ended our annual large group trek to the Jazz Fest at Galvez, after 6 pretty splendid foodie nights around Nola. I picked it because of the tapas options and the large-ish menu, knowing we'd all be pretty ready for a change. I'd heard reviews on both sides of the fence for Galvez and was prepared to be happy but not overjoyed.... however, everyone in our group loved it, loved how quiet it was ( so we could actually talk with each other without shouting on our last night together), how wonderful our server (Atilla) was, and finally, that the food was not only decent but pretty darn good. I would go back.

great food and outstanding location
Since Bella Luna closed after Katrina this great location needed a great restaurant. Brunch was great. Outstanding food and service.
5/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent food and service
The long stemmed rosé for Mither's Day was a nice touch along with the gorgeous balcony views for photos. The food and service were excellent. Galvez has been a favorite of ours for years and I highly recommend it. Be sure to try their homemade Sangria :-)

Pleasant Surprise w/Great Views
After a couple of "mediocre" food experiences in the french quarter, this spanish restaurant was a welcome surprise. When I saw the location - I thought this was going to be a tourist trap, but it was not. Great views from every table. Great for sunset dinner time. One side of the restaurant has all windows facing river. We got here late, but service was exceptional - from the bartender to our server. Food was very good. The caldo gallego, while small in portion, was very good, and the paella, large portion, also very good. Sangria was great. Main Entrees were from $18 to 30+, Caldo was $9. The Flan was OK not great, so maybe try the chocolate option instead. However, this is a place I will be back to.
5/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
One of the best crab cakes
One of the best crab cakes ever, great salads, great paella. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Historical building and good food!
Food was good, but quite heavily sauced and salty. Waiter was extremely good, he even brought his own spice for us! The building is historical right behind the French market, interesting dining experience.

Everything about this place was great! The food was excellant, the ambiance was indescribable, there's nothing better than sitting in this place as the sun is setting, and you have the backdrop of the Mississippi River & the bridge lighting up as you're dining. There may not be another setting like this in the city. The place wasn't crowded, the service was fast, the staff was friendly, and the price was reasonable, which all adds to up to great time. I will definitely be back.

Tapas were great !!
Good selection to choose from . The food was great. Crab cakes and Empanadas were a great starter
6/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
My husband and I went here for our 5yr anniversary dinner. We asked our hotel concierge for someplace "special", good food, good portions and a diverse menu. He recommended Galvez, and it was absolutely perfect. The food was amazing, only to be matched by a beautiful view of the Mississippi and the best service we have ever received. Hats off to everyone from the chef, the manager, and the waiters.

Room with a view
The first impression is good. The room faces the river along it's entire length, as well as having a patio at one end.
Ambience was enhanced by live piano music. Later, the musician switched to guitar.
The bar runs along most of the opposite wall, allowing patrons to view the river scene.
Wine and specialty drinks abound. On the food side, many choices await among the "tapas" plates,
or appetizers, and entrees. We chose roasted olives, sherried spinach, and coconut shrimp as tapas plates -
Three paellas were available, but we found the filet and fish entrees superior to them.
The owner was very friendly after our meal, taking us to the patio for photos before we left.
We will be back again soon.

This place is in theheart of the fench quarter and it always has open tables. I don't know if the locals see it as a tourist trap or if its in such a good spot that people ignore it. Whatever the reason, we went for sunday brunch and their was only 2 other tables occupied although more were coming in when we left. The food was great, the service was top notch. The bartender even came over to chat with us about the drinks he could make. We walked past hundreds of people waiting in the sun for café du monde and e walked in and sat down. Sure, you will pay ~$30 for the brunch but its multiple courses and its REALLY good. It was a great romantic spot after a fun weekend in New Orleans.

Fireworks on the River
We dined at Galvez Restaurant to celebrate the 4th of July. What a Great choice! The setting is overlooking the Mississippi River, so we see the Natchez River boat going by. The view is spectacular!. The food was excellent, we were not rushed, we were left to enjoy the food, wine and atmosphere. The fireworks were in view directly out of the window where we sat. It was both romantic and exciting. All in all it was a very memorable experience and we will be sure to go back again.

French Market Gem
We had an excellent and memorable dinner at Galvez on July 4th. We began with some house-made drinks prepared especially for the 4th that were absolutely unique and delicious. We were seated at a window table overlooking the river. Since it was the 4th, the restaurant had a pre-set menu to chose from with fixed prices, so the menu was limited, however what they had to offer was superb and we were not disappointed. Everything was top quality, fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. The rib eye steak was the best we've ever eaten! The waiter was very accommodating and a lovely lady (not sure if she was the owner) came over to talk to us and offered to take our picture for us. We will definitely return to this French Market Gem!

Great Overall Experience
Dined at Galvez the night of July 4. The restaurant has a spectacular view of the river and we were not disappointed by the view of the fabulous fireworks display. At first, we were a little disappointed by their fixed price menu for the holiday, as we had been looking forward to trying several of the Tapas from their regular menu. However, the food and drinks were very good and we were well pleased. Service was a little slow, probably due to the holiday crowd and some of the wait staff who were obviously either new or brought on to cover the additional volume. We'll definitely go back and look forward to the regular menu and another view of the river.

Galvez has a great view of the Mississippi River, really good food. The people were delightful and cooperative - the service was a little slow is my only comment that could mar someones dining, if they were in a hurry.

Brunch at Galvez
The brunch offered many tasty dishes and the service was excellent. The staff was very friendly and the view of the river was most enjoyable. We have not dined at night there and are anxious to go back and try the full menu. The bar also has a wonderful view of the river and the happy hour sounds worth trying.
7/27/2013 5:00:00 PM
Our experience at Galvez was great all around: authentic Spanish cuisine (we tried the paella and fish of the day, both excellent), even better drink (sangria for us) and above all fantastic atmosphere and service. The balcony area was closed due to the heat, but after they found out it was our anniversary and we asked if we could go outside, they went out of their way to setup a private table out there for us to sip our drinks and watch the sunset after the meal. The view from the restaurant (which is on the top floor above an art coop) is spectacular, overlooking both the french quarter on one side and the river on the other. It was very romantic!

Galvez saved our evening!
When the restaurant where we had reservations for our last night in N.O. abruptly closed we had a difficult time finding a last minute substitute. We took a chance on Galvez and could not have been more impressed with the food and service. In addition, we were shown to a table with a wonderful view of the Mississippi and realized that we were dining in the location of one of our sorely missed old favorites - Bella Luna. We look forward to our next visit to Galvez and highly recommend it to all prospective diners.

We had a nice dinner. Tapas offered a nice variety of options.

I went to Galvez for the Coolinary menu. It was hidden and we had a little trouble finding it a new waiter at another restaurant showed us the way. When we got up there we could see the great view- the restaurant is along the Mississippi and they have windows all along the wall! The people there were so nice and even took us on a tour of place. The food was good but if we didn't do Coolinary it would have been over priced. I had the bombas they were delish!

Very comfortable and elegant
Very comfortable and elegant at the same time. Felt like home.. The server Alfie and josh were tremendously nice!! And the hostest was very nice and even showed us the view in the Terrance. Such a nice lady.. Very welcoming.. They food was fresh!! U can taste the unique flavors!! Great tapas and sangria!! It was my first time.. and I would definitely come back!!
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
The service was fantastic.
The service was fantastic. We tried the COOLinary menu, which was a great value for the price. We did wish the paella was spicier and had a bit more saffron, but all the other dishes were superb. Beautiful view of the River through massive windows. Quiet and romantic. I would definitely return. The maitre d' was incredibly sweet.

Good view, food, and service
This is one of those hidden gems in the French Quarter. Galvez offers free parking in a lot that is within steps of the front enterance. The staff could not be more attentive or helpful. A Panoramic view from the dining room is almost worth the trip. The food was a true eye opener. This was our first visit, but it will not be our last. Tired visitors to the French Market might drop by for the sangria offered both in white and red versions. Consider this restaurant for dinner.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Better than ever!
We dine here a few times a year and it's always pretty good, but last night was very, very good. It may have the best view in town.
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
All around lovely experience.
Secon time in a row at Galvez we lingered at the bar well past our delightful meal. The waitstaff is friendly and welcoming and the food remains top notch.

My boyfriend and I went to galvez for restaurant week because they offer authentic Spanish dishes. We went to Spain last summer and the food was comparable to some dishes we had there. We would have never seen the place otherwise because its hidden away in the french quarter. The water views are great. The hostess was incredible; she showed us take balcony and even offered to take our picture. Overall a wonderful experience.

The best place in New Orleans!!!
If you like wonderful food, great cocktails, and being treated like royalty, then you will love Galvez! The menu is all small plates, and perfect for sharing. All the dishes were wonderful! They do house made infused liquors, and I tried the pineapple infused rum punch. Very delicious! But the true star of the evening was our wonderful server Alphe. He is a rare gem in the fine dining industry! His genuine warmth and kindness, combined with impecable serving skills, and vast knowledge of the impressive menu, ensure you will feel pampered! Alphe is such a treat I would love this place even without the great food! I should also mention the great view of the river at night! To top it off, the prices are very reasonable! LOVE IT!!!

The view of the river and gno brige are breathtaking, the food is great and service comendable. The only issue I ha was that besides us there was no one other then us in the resuraunt which was quite strange especially in New Orleans.

A Gem of a Restaurant
Every tapas dish we received was better than the next. One of the best meals that we've had in a long time. The service was great with a very attentive staff. And the view has to be the best of any restaurant in New Orleans, overlooking the Mississippi River. The balcony is great for after dinner drinks. A very romantic destination. Highly recommended.

A Touch of Spain in the Quarter
A beautifully restored Spanish club feel with an entire wall of riverfront view. Perfect for a romantic evening or special occasion, and capable of handling large groups. The paella and tapas were exquisitely prepared, and service was outstandingly friendly and charming, as well as prompt and timely. The wine list is affordable and contains some fine selections from Argentina and Chile. Plan on returning to try more dishes. Definitely a "two thumbs up" dining experience.

A Hidden Gem
It is so hard to say good things in New Orleans about food when it is all so good but this was truly amazing! The tapas were amazing and the dinners were the best we had in NOLA. The views over the river were also wonderful.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best view in New Orleans!
In a city that abounbs with amazing sights, oddly there are no restaurants with a view of the Mighty Mississippi. Except Galvez, which has a commanding panoramic 2nd floor view frok its location just by the river.
The viewcis fantastic, the restarant has an intimate romantic feel. The food is Spanish, and Spanish influenced, refreshing in a city where much of the food is French, Cajun or Creole. The service is excellent. A very nice dining experience.
