French comfort food at its best
Really the title says it all. From the beef tartar and the onion tart to the duck poutine to the risotto and beef bourguignon, all were well imagined and well executed. The fact that the restuarant lends itself to conversation was great for us - given that most places in town now like to have sound level so high that conversation is very difficult in a group setting.

It actually took me on memories of previos visits to Montreal. The server was very kind and informative, service was very good. We ordered from the dinner menue, our food was very hot and flavourfull. I was intentionally trying to avoid Italian/Asian /American /Fusion- and although technically in terms of cooking history thats impossible, I feel that goal was acheived and I was satisfied with the restaurant / menue selection. I think on a day off I would try the lunch menue and sit on the patio in the sun. I observed an extensive beverage / wine menue that could keep one busy for years.

We took my Mom out for Mother’s Day to Laurier Lounge. The space is funky and comfortable. The patio looked very enticing as well. Service was friendly and efficient. My mother’s egg sandwich croissant suited her perfectly . The chef salad had pleasant flavors but could have been a little more substantial, really just three ingredients emmental, strawberries and pancetta in small portions. My husband enjoyed his Warren Buffet burger but it was well, a burger. The mimosas were well priced for Mother’s Day but I was a little gob-smacked by the $13 tab for a six once Kim Crawford sauv blanc. The menu items were restricted given that it was Mother’s Day and I would like to return to see what the kitchen can really do when not in a crunch.

A fantastic restaurant!
AMAZING authentic French food. Their steak is excellent, perfectly cooked and tender. The Tartare and Onion tarte appetizer are delicious. This is the restaurant you take your wife or girlfriend to for an anniversary. I've been to Paris and the food here tops most of the dishes I've had there. Style is great and has a good vibe. Ambiance is dark, romantic and alluring. Perfect for date!

I can only say good things..
We loved it....... I can only say good things of this restaurant.
Great food and great service.
We will go back again for sure!

We had friends in town from Manitoba this weekend and they wanted to go to a great restaraurant that was different than anything they had at home. We had never been to Laurier before, but heard good things. We were very happy! Our food was fantastic. We did tapas and order about 8 different things for the 4 of us. It was very rich (as expected by French food) and we left very satisfied. THe restaurant is a cute little old house with so much character. We had our own little private room upstairs and it was great to catch up with our own privacy. I wouldn't go hear if you are looking for a lot of energy; it is much more intimate and romantic.

Well worth the drive from Edmonton!
Located in the childhood residence of George Stanley, Laurier Lounge is an intimate venue brimming with character, perfect for couples and small groups. The decor and choice of music give an authentic European ambience and the service is timely and courteous. My fiancee and I enjoyed a romantic dinner accompanied by a fine bottle of wine from the extensive list. The fois gras appetizer was dangerously addictive with the apple jelly adding a well measured note of sweetness. Our main courses were a succulent striploin cooked to perfection and a light and flaky whole seabass. Both dishes were beautifully presented and a quality check from Chef Ryan O'Flynn was a special and personal touch. I cannot wait to visit again and try the desserts!

Belated Mother's Day dinner out
Took my parents and hubby out for a belated Mother's Day dinner. Enjoyed all of our food very much, had a great server who was attentive but not intrusive. You must try the steak tartare, delish! Bouillabaisse, Sea Bass, Beef Bourguignon were all wonderful. I tried the three course Beef Experience, all fondue, enjoyed it very much. Slightly too much wine taste in the cheese fondue but still very tasty. The escargot came with plenty of bread to soak up the yummy butter sauce. With alcohol and desserts, coffee, still water, with tip bill came to $400. A
ll had such a lovely time and it was well worth it :-) Everyone said they would return.

Fabulous food, great date spot!
We had dinner at Laurier Lounge to celebrate one year until our wedding day (our "future anniversary" dinner!). I had the wild mushroom risotto and my fiancee had the bouillabaise and they were both amazing dishes. You can tell a lot of love goes into their food.
For dessert we shared the chocolate fondue and a couple of glasses of prosecco - it was fabulous! The banana bread is a unique addition to a fondue plate that I'd never tried before.
The service was awesome, very friendly, and our server was very knowledgable of the menu and wine list. The atmposhere was very cozy, we had a corner table upstairs and it velt very warm and romantic.
We will be back to celebrate our actual anniversary and other special occasions for sure!

We have had several wonderful meals here! The food is fabulous both in taste and presentation. The staff are friendly and attentive but do not hover. Highly recommend this location - only caution since the house is old (early 1900s) the staircase up to the top floor is a little steep but there is the option of eating on the main level.
6/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Meal was fantastic, the only issue was it was a little too warm upstairs and because it had been raining the patio was closed

Lounging at the Laurier
We had a delicious inner at The Laurier that included scrumptious escargot for appetizers, sea bass and beef bourignon (sorry for spelling) for the main entrees. We wanted local French food and we got it.

The food and service were amazing.
Jill, our server, was the perfect amount of friendly and highly skilled. The food was better than we have had in a good long time. We didn't mind paying the $27-30 per plate and that’s saying something, for us. I had halibut and my husband had beef. We were delighted by how delicious it was. The coconut panna cotta for desert was heavenly. I seriously could have eaten 2 of them.

Small, older house off of Design District area offers a fantastic spot for great food. Limited menu but not hard to find something that will appeal. Because of it's intimate environment and traditional room set-up, it can be either very romantic if seated without anyone in your room, or noisier and annoying if a loud group is sharing your space. But well worth the visit. Very enjoyable.

We went to Laurier Lounge for a change of scenery, and it was great. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for, the service was great, the wine list was fun. We ordered a few different things, and shared them. Everything was excellent, but the Poutine was VERY salty. If was topped with Beef Bourguinon, which was just too salty, and I love salt.
I would definately go back, I would just try something different off their fun menu.

Extremely good food! ... and my husband and I are extremely picky :)

Everything was outstanding - and the restaurant was very quiet and intimate. Everyone is sectioned off into their own little rooms about the historic house. I had the Beef Bourguignon, and it melted apart into deliciousness.

Affordable French Cuisine
The new menu at Laurier Lounge is hit and miss. We shared a number of appetizers, since none of the main entrees appealed to us. The cheese fondue was average. The carmelized onion was outstanding. The waldorf salad was very pricey for what you get. The foie gros was amazing!
Unfortunately, the poutine was inedible. The server gave an explanation about the preparation and was really good about offering us another appie instead. We felt silly to learn the fellows beside us ate their poutine, until they confessed they were too polite to send it back. The server did some detective work and discovered a new chef had prepared it incorrectly. I'll have to try again.
Heaters on the outdoor patio made for a lovely summer evening.

What a lovely restaurant, and the food was absolutely amazing. Just the right portion size, and every bite was very tasty! I would go there again!

Great food and service.
My wife and I really enjoyed dining at Laurier Lounge, the food was delicious. The music was great, the service was fast
and pleasant. No real complaints other than my special request wasn't met, when I made my reservation through Open Table, I requested a red rose to be brought to my wife as soon as our wine was poured...it didn't happen.

Soup was amazingly delish!
Loved the carrot soup will be back for more of it.

Laurier Lounge is always great
Whether you dine inside in one of the rooms of this old house, or outside on the front patio, the service, food and ambiance are excellent. The crowd tends to be younger (late 20s to early 40s) and professional, which gives the Laurier Lounge a great vibe.
The food is always delicious and the staff are well-trained and know the menus and wine list, so it's always efficient too.
There is a strong "Québec Connection" there, so try the fancy poutine, it is great too :-)

Laurier Lounge Lunch
Great place for lunch or dinner, though they're old menu was much better. Service is excellent, wine choices are a plenty.
Food is always fresh and tasty.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
I would recommend changing the cheese fondue. It wasn't the best. But overall was amazing :)
9/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
An old property on 7th street between 11 and 12 avenues SW, Laurier Lounge has a lively pub/patio downstairs with a quiet, romantic dining room on the second floor. The menu is a delight, not too big and with very different choices for starters and main courses. The prices are moderate for the dishes offered and the whole experience is a delight! It feels like a place that is "in"!
9/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cute and romantic
Great ambience. Excellent service. We loved sitting upstairs in a little nook - it was perfect for date night.
The bacon wrapped dates were scrumptious. The beef on the poutine was delicious, though overall it was very very salty. The sea bass was excellent. Wine list was substantial and our waitress was excellent.
Will return on a cold fall evening for the fondue - it looks fantastic, people around us were gobbling it up.
9/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very friendly greeting - fabulous food - not rushed at all - very good service. Sever knowledgeable about menu.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Every time I visit the service is great and they try to make you happy even if the requests are not simple. At this last visit, my guest and I wanted glasses of a particular wine that was not offered as a glass but only as the bottle. They sold it to us that way anyway. That really makes me want to return.
10/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything was fabulous, from the food to the server to the ambience.

Fon-do it again
Delicious! Had the beef experience for two. Cheese fondue was delightful and addicting. Main course was delish! Try not to fill up too much because you don't want to miss the chocolate fondue at the end. Heavenly meal in lovely tucked away space.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
It was the perfect spot to go on a date. The place was quaint and charming. The music was perfect, something different that almost took you to somewhere else. It was as if we had left Calgary and were in a restaurant or cafe in Paris.

Best Fondue in Calgary
Laurier Lounge was a fantastic find for us. Great food; all 3 fondue courses were delicious. Make sure you save room for the final chocolate course as it is quite large. Definitely going back again.

A great new find for us ...
We were really impressed with the food, the presentation, the service and the venue. We will be sure to return!!

Nice and quiet
Even though the kitchen closed at 2:30 (reopening at 5) and we had arrived only a few minutes before, they still let us order for us and our friend who hadn't arrived yet. That was really nice.
Everyone was friendly, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The dining area upstairs is divided up into smaller rooms so the noise level is low and great for having good conversations. The meals were filling and expertly arranged, and most importantly, delicious! I love how they stuck with their theme so consistently, from the French music to the pepper grinders. I had the chicken poutine.
I highly recommend this place if you want an enjoyable meal with close friends.

Definitely NOT a chain restaurant
Having read recent "Reader's Choice" for dining in one of Calgary's "local" papers, I was disappointed to find that the top three favorite restaurants in Calgary were the top three big chains. The Laurier Lounge is a CALGARY restaurant that does its best to be innovative while still being able to attract Calgarians (people who love chain restaurants). It's located in a historic house on 7th, and as soon as they brought the traditional escargot, I was in love. They brought a steak knife for the beef bourguignon, but you could manage with a spoon, so tender, delicious, fresh. My only "meh" was the choice of beers, but frankly, the cocktails and wines more than make up for it. Go. Enjoy Laurier Lounge. Disappointment is very unlikely.

My husband & I went here for our wedding anniversary. We had an amazing fondue dinner - cheese, beef (onion broth) and chocolate. The atmosphere is awesome, and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back!

Great Food! Great Service!
The beet/goat cheese salad my dining companion had was absolutely beautiful and delicious. My starter, the mushroom fricasse was tasty and beautifully presented as well.
We had two starters each and found that it was enough food. The other dishes we enjoyed were the beef poutine and the foie gras. We each very much enjoyed our meals. The crowning glory was our dessert, the pumpkin panna cotta! Divine!!
The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere was inviting. I would definitely go back!

Delish for a date
We had the fabulous three course fondue dinner. Cheese, beef and chocolate. Good portion sizes. And excellent quality.

Have always had good luck here and love the food, but unfortunately tried the chicken poutine this time. It was so salty that I couldn't finish it. My arteries probably thank me, but I was disappointed. I was expecting better from Laurier Lounge.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
Went there with friends and had a fantastic time! Had heard about it before and had been wanting to try it out! So glad we did! We had the complete fondue menu with cheese, beef and chocolate fondue! It was absolutely delicious! Will definitely go back for brunch!

A true Calgary gem!
Years ago, I used to frequent the Laurier Lounge as a stop-in after work to have an adult coffee with friends in the lounge area. I loved how cozy it was in the winter months...
More recently, I have explored the dining side of this place. I don't know what took me so long!! We had a party of three, and our table was in its own little room. Fantastic intimate setting and ambiance! The fondue was delish (I had far too much out of the three of us lol), and all of our meals were fantastic too.
Hosting and service is aces.
All around great spot! I would definitely recommend it for a romantic dinner spot, or a great place to go with a small group of friends (3-5).

We had the fondue and it was amazing!! More than enough food for everyone and we were given lots of time to socialize and finish our meal in peace. Love not only the food but not being rushed through it!

The two best things about this restaurant are in indeed the quietness and scruptuousness of the Steak Tartar. Coming in third might be the delicious broth based fondue. Although oil is tasty this broth is much nicer to work and you do not smell like a grease pit after. The service is always quite lovely as well...oh, and I forgot to mention the tasty mojitos!

Great Chocolate Fondue
Stopped in for the chcolate fondue dessert late in the evening. The food was excellent, service was great, and overall was a wonderful experience. Will definitely go back, next time for an entire fondue meal.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
I chose this restaurant based on it's proximity to my client's office. None of us had ever been before but we were all very pleasantly surprised. Service and food were great. The restaurant appears to be an old house that has been decorated in a funky eclectic way. Very neat. I will definitely return.
11/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
Love the ambience - it's in a little heritage home tucked in the middle of downtown Calgary. Try the fondue - it's delicious! We came here for our anniversary dinner and it was awesome.

We'd dined here once before but once again it didn't disappoint. The foie gras was delicious and the steak tartare got a thumbs up from my husband. We both plumped for the bouillabaisse and it was equally as good.
