Despite the changes to the décor, I was happy to see that the delicious and bountiful breakfast menu hadn't changed. Servicers wonderful as always. Other meals also excellent here.

We went back the next night too!
Food was amazing. Think traditional southern dishes done in an upscale fashion and without being greasy. The fish was very fresh and not overpowered by the sides. I've been coming to the Outer Banks since the late '80's and can say this is one of the best restaurants there. Far better than the tourist traps. This restaurant would hold its own on the foodie scene in NY. The only thing I would change is the music, which is a bit cheesy. My wife and I went one night and came back the next night with our extended family. Our server was very accommodating for our 1 year old. Service was attentive and friendly on both nights. We'd recommend the grouper, fired chicken, flounder, and the BBQ mixed grill. Can't wait to return next year.

Dining at the Life Saving Station
We are frequent diners at this establishment for the past 20 or so years. Always was a special place to eat, quiet, upscale. Since the remodel it is a much more casual atmosphere -- not as classy -- and much noisier. Food is still outstanding -- but the new style is not nearly as special as the old.

The staff was very attentive and considerate of the two young guests with our party as well as the adults. It is a good start to feel welcomed and the hostess and wait staff did a very fine job. We were there a when there were several open tables so that might have been good for us. The decor is an understated nautical theme that is what one would expect based on the name of the restaurant. I was especially pleased with my entree which was their classic shrimp and grits. The combination of the shrimp with andouilie sausage with grits and vegetables was tantalizing and satisfying.

Best real food in obx. Restaurant needs to employ a busboy or two. Our waiter was great but had toothy tables and no help!

Fine Dining at the beach
Impeccable service and delicious meals including my son's from the children's menu. We really liked the renovations and enjoyed sitting outside on the patio.
Highly recommend and staff is very kid friendly.

Delectable Dining Experience!
We had reservations and were seated upstairs near the window, as we requested. The dining room was fairly busy but quiet and in keeping with the "Lifesaving Station" theme. The food was where this restaurant was far from average. We did not have to wait long for our meals to come and, when they did, the presentation of each entree was beautiful. To top it off, all five people in our party were amazed by the unique taste sensation of their dinners! Each bite truly offered a grand experience for the taste buds! Hats off to the staff and chef of The Lifesaving Station! We will definitely return!

Excellent all around. Servers were attentive but not hovering, and they work very hard upstairs. Roast beef was best I've ever had -even better than I make! Ceasar salad was crisp and tasty. Spouse had the BBQ and enjoyed it. Plenty of food. Lovely view of Currituck Sound. Nice nautical interior in keeping with its history.

Great Food! But too much noise!
We just enjoyed our third visit to the Lifesaving Station in as many years. We keep going back because we feel the food is the very best on the entire Outer Banks. Last spring the downstairs dining room was renovated, quite nicely, but with little attention to the noise factor in the room. On our last visit, there were to large families celebrating birthdays and understandably contributing to the decibel level in the dining room, All surface are hard; there are no curtains, no rugs, no sound dampeners. Consequently the noise level was so loud that it was difficult to carry on any conversation. Again, the food was first-rate -- but something must be done with the acoustics or the restaurant's clientele may start looking elsewhere.

Return to Sanderling Inn
We stayed at the Inn about 20 years ago. We stayed down the street this past week and made a reservation mostly for nostalgic reasons. We booked the former Lifesaving Station dining room, which has a great feel, although it was a quite noisy. (Two or three sound-deadening room dividers would eliminate the problem.) We were all very pleased with the food. The most memorable part of the dinner was our waiter, a Jamaican who had the best attitude of anyone I have met in the last ten years. He made it the most memorable night in seven days. The speed of service by all employees was just right.

Michelle was our server and she was terrific and accommodating. Best crab cakes ever and fried green tomatoes/goat cheese hush puppies ..marvelous! We cannot wait to return ....we have had breakfast there also and really enjoyed everything. Lovely, lovely place! Thank you!

October dinner at the LivesavingSta
The dining space had been remodeled and was very airy and attractive, with relevant decorations from its history as a lifesaving station.
Excellent presentation and outstanding entrees - 1) Stuffed flounder and 2) sea scallops. Yum! Coffee afterwards was very good. Should have stopped there. I orderd the peach cobbler a la mode and although it was prepared and delivered in an attractive style, Its own liittle pan, the peaches were sour. Being October, I assume that peaches (at least the best peaches) were no longer in season.
Overall experience was very pleasant however and we would return. We were already repeat customers.

wish we visited sooner!
We stopped for lunch after we checked out of our hotel, before we started home.
We were the only ones there which I don't understand as the food was great and the service was friendly. I had a crab cake sandwich - huge on a soft roll with butter lettuce. It came with homemade chips that were addictive.
Lunch prices were in line with all the other local restaurants we visited during our vacation.
We would go back if we are ever in the Outer Banks again.

The food was delicious. The grits grits were the best I have ever eaten. It was my husband's birthday and we were pampered and thoroughly enjoyed our our experience as first time visitors.

Birthday Dinner by the Fireplace
My wife and had a wonderful dinner at The Life Saving Station at the Sanderling Resort last Saturday night. It was her birthday and the staff gave us a great table right by the fireplace. The food was excellent and so was the service. The Life Saving Station menu has a variety of seafood and meat dishes. We split a salad and then my wife had seared scallops and I had tuna. Both entrees tasted great the portion size was sufficient such that that we took food home for some tasty leftovers the next afternoon. The meal prices are competitive and because we live locally we were given a "locals discount". My wife and I could not have been happier with our meals and our overall experience.

Terrific Turkey Day!!
Had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with my family at The Lifesaving Station. This was the first time in years that we hadn't cooked dinner at home for Thanksgiving so it was nice to be pampered and waited on for a change. Food was delicious and would highly recommend.
