We are long time visitors
We are long time visitors to the OBX and always happy to try out a new restaurant. The restaurant is lovely, with floor to ceiling windows looking over the sound. The tables are nicely spaced, you can have a conversation with your companions. Our food was very tasty but the temperature of the food was not always on point. The Peruvian ceviche, a special, was outstanding. Both salads were OK but not memorable. My scallops were perfectly cooked, the accompanying sauce was room temperature at best, needed to be much warmer. My husband's porterhouse steak was cooked perfectly and delicious. A roasted head of garlic on the side was promising but also cold. We'd go again but it's expensive so the food temperature needs more attention.

Was anxious to try the reinvented Left Bank. The view is great. Wait staff is friendly and efficient. Matthew was particularly well versed on wine selections. Fresh oyster selection was very good. Arugula salad with peaches way too spicy. Two people ordered fresh catch of day, one ordered the veal chop, one ordered the scallops -- all were excellent. Side dishes were also excellent, but cost extra. Banana split dessert was very good. Downside -- very, very expensive. Kimball's is obviously trying to attract more people with a laxer dress code and new menu, but it is still has Left Bank prices with t-shirts, flip flops and antsy kids -- no longer a special occasion place and not sure what it is they are trying to be.

We found the service superb, as well as the food. The cocktail choices were excellent. Gorgeous view of the bayside. This is a small place; reservations would be required i would imagine. Fancy but not pretentious.

Great Service. Menu a little
Great Service. Menu a little intimidating with all prices listed. Must say the family dinning choices, mushrooms, potatoes, etc were excellent and one order served 2 very easily--might consider offering more selections. Entrée were very good, hot and nice presentation. My wife liked the inside of restraint. I would have liked some softer colors to make it more relaxed. Loved the fact that you could talk in a normal voice and be heard. Liked oysters, but somewhat pricey compared to what is available in other places.

Great resort dining experience
Interesting food. not noisy. beautiful sunset. wait staff is knowledgable and educated about the preparation of each dish. not an average dinner place- this is for special evenings, whether family occasions, romantic date night, or food-focused experiences. Not a great place for kids.

We had dinner here as a group
We had dinner here as a group of 4 adults, who enjoy good food and wine, and 2 teenagers, who are doing really well on learning about good food (but who will have to wait a while on the wine bit.) We all had a good time, and thought the food excellent - my mixed grill was particularly pleasing - and the wine list easily covered all the bases. We would certainly go back again.

This was our first experience and we could not be more pleased. Fabulous food, warm and professional staff, overwhelming view.

Fine dining on the sound
Loved Lisa our waitress. Appropriately friendly but not overly from the hostess to the entire staff. Maybe advise customer when ordering steak, what their expectation is for the different types of doneness. Would definitely return.

A must go!
this classical modern eatery presents an open atmosphere with warm lighting and exquisite views of The Currituck Sound. Awesome sunset views. Started out with oysters on the half shell that were divine. Also had a shrimp cocktail, large shrimp and a delicate tomato coulis needs more and definitely more spices.
The breads are excellent and served to you piece by piece by the very attentive, friendly, and expert staff. We had scallops and a filet, both were 5-star tastes. The filet was butter tender and delicious. The Bibb wedge was also quite a nice break from the traditional iceberg wedge. Desert was a heavenly cheesecake slice with thyme and honey infused peaches, an atypical combination that was just perfection.

A good alternative to the Left Bank
Kimballs replaces the old Left Bank with the Sanderling renovation. The food is still very good, although maybe not quite as good as the Left Bank's but it is also half the price of the Left Bank. At over $100 per couple, it is still pricey but the food was very good as was the service. It is a great restaurant for a special occasion.

Great service. Extensive wine list. Food was very good but portions were a bit undersized.

Beautiful Anniversary Dinner
My husband booked reservations at Kimbal's months in advance for our 5 year anniversary dinner. And although the evening started off a little rocky, the staff at Kimbal's did an excellent job making our night a beautiful and memorable evening. We started off with the seafood tower, which was amazing. It's on the pricey side but if you're coming to a restaurnat like this, it's worth it. Our entrees were delicious and the desserts were divine. But what really made the evening, was the beautiful view if the ocean and the attentive and friendly staff.
I would definitely come back next time we're in the area.

While the name Kimball's Kitchen describes the view we had, as diners, of the kitchen it signaled nothing of the grand view of the sunset we had across the water nor of the delight to our pallets we experienced with each course. This restaurant is in the class of Emeril's in Orlando which is high praise.

Great Food & Sunset = Romantic Nite
My wife and I were celebrating my recent retirement and our 35th wedding anniversary. We went to Kimball's on a recommendation and were glad we did. The seafood dish we chose was one of the best we have ever had and the view of the evening sunset was beautiful. It made our special occasion really nice. My only negative is because the dining area uses so much wood in it's decor it was loud, but not unbearable, to hear others talking. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Will definitely go again when we are back in the OBX.

Fantastic dining experience
We had a wonderful evening eating at Kimball's Kitchen. I have the New York Strip, it was one of the best steaks I've ever eaten.our waitress Susan was wonderful and her service was outstanding. Although the meal was expensive, build it worth every penny.

Would go back,but order differently
Let me start by saying, my wife tried the lobster ravioli, and adored that choice! Note: she doesnt eat seafood, and loved the dish. Great review there. As for me, I should have ordered a steak, or meat. The night before I had a filet, so I thought to go the seafood route. I ordered the scallops, they were good. I was not blown away, but good. The chef was a "meat specialist" and I should have listened. Plus the only thing on the plate was the scallops. I come with a big appetite, so I was a bit shortchanged, I felt.
Overal we would go back, and we would tell others to do the same. Mission accomplished! See you next time!

Lovely view and great service!
This was my family's first time to the restaurant. The views were exceptional amazing views of the sound and we had a front-row seat for the sunset. The service was great -- our server was attentive but not hover-y. The steak was amazing! The crabcakes were great also. Would recommend to anyone without hesitation -- and will certainly come back for a special occasion.

Fine Dining and an Outstanding View
Great classic steak and seafood menu with more than adequate fresh local ingredients as well as daily specials. Very high quality food prepared flawlessly.Attractive wine list with by the glass wines well matched to the food. The service is professional, unhurried and accommodating. The view of the Sound is outstanding. The tables are separated such that your table is comfortable and conversations are private. The overall rating would have been 5 except that the prices are just too high in my opinion.

Great Food & Service!
Sean, our bartender, was very helpful in offering suggestions for our meal, as well as preparing wonderful cocktails. Lisa was very friendly and infomative. We never felt rushed (even with a late reservation) and the food was amazing.
We started with the lobster bisque (incredible presentation), Kimball's oysters (a play on oyster rockefeller, but fresher) and 1/2 dozen fresh oysters (great sauces). Then moved on to the scallops (beautifully crisp on the outside and rich), lobster raviolli (with an incredible white sauce with a hint of tarragon), grouper of the night (crispy skin and a delicious broth), and fresh vegetable pasta (light and summery). We finished with the bread pudding (amazing)

Will definitely go back!
Excellent service from the time we entered the restaurant. Food was fabulous although slightly pricey. We really enjoyed the filet and salmon.

Outstanding OBX Restaurant.
Awesome Dining Experience. This is by far the best restaurant on the OBX.

A few misses
A beautiful setting, spectacular sunset views, personable wait staff, outstanding bread with Himalayan salt on butter. Problems: lobster bisque too thin with no pieces of lobster, wild mushroom side served room temp, no seasonings or sauce (but in very hot serving piece???), huge serving of bread pudding with only decorative squiggles of caramel sauce, cheesecake extremely dense with little flavor. We loved our after dinner specialty cocktails! Will definitely return and enjoy the friendly, beautiful atmosphere and try new menu items.

Very good but expensive in OBX
We will go back. They take reservations. The food was very good. The room is very nice and the view is perfect. It is a pricey night out - not always what I want at the beach.

Great for Special Occasion
Beautiful setting with great sound views and lovely restaurant. Very good food, especially desserts. Very pricey but good for a splurge.

Great addition to OBX eating
A basic steak house with some excellent local seafood and not so basic additions. The sides were delicious. I had a fabulous risotto with summer vegetables after starting with terrific oysters on the half shell. My husband had lamb chops and melt in your mouth sauteed spinach. The wine list was ample and the bar served terrific cocktails. Our server, Matthew, was attentive and very helpful in suggesting the wine. The site is the former location of The Left Bank. We were disappointed to hear that the Left Bank had closed but this is a very worthy replacement.

Our foursome enjoyed the cocktails
Our foursome enjoyed the cocktails (Duckberry excellent). The tuna sashimi and steamed pork buns were fantastic. Lobster ravioli and veal chop were winners. Flounder special a little dry. The server advised to order the meat dishes...ironic for the seaside setting. Overall a lovely and expensive evening.

I loved the cocktails the Duckberry and Almond Joy. The atmosphere and service was great. The food was not so great.
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
We formerly knew this as Left Bank and thought with a new name like Kimball's Kitchen it may have lost touch with what everyone remembered it as. My situation reflected in the title here is that a friend of my parents wanted to set up a dining experince and pick up the tab at the end. I set up the reservation via Open Table (which was oober convenient since the restaurant was closed the day I want to make the reservation) and worked with the extrememely friendly and helpful staff to make the evening a night to remember. The hostess (Natalie i believe?) was very friendly and the bartender, Sean, made a fantastic cocktail (a bit pricey though). I speak for my parents when they say they had a great experience and enjoyed the food very much.

A welcome addition.
Put Kimball's Kitchen on your OBX vacation dining list. The food, view and service are outstanding !

Great OBX steak house at last......
5 star New York style steakhouse in a magical setting. Wasn't sure when the new owners at Sanderling were changing from the Left Bank to steak but they have hit a home run.
Best dinner of the week.
It is still a beautiful location with the best sunset views of the area. Frank, Sean end Rhonda took great care of us.....lobster bisque so delectable, lamb chops perfectly seasoned and huge, yummy veal chop, some of the best mashed potatoes ever!
A great place for drinks whether before or after dinner....the best Key Lime martini! Wine list is very good also.
We can't wait to go back.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Although I made a res for 8 and wasn't seated until after 8:15 (which annoyed me); the service was impeccable, the food was delicious and it was worth the wait.
It was a pretty loud space, that is my only complaint.

This restaurant is quite the romantic find. Quiet with beautiful views of water and sunset! They made our 30th wedding anniversary very special with complimentary champagne to celebrate our special occasion. The service, food and ambience was top notch! Pricey but well worth it for a special, memorable occasion! Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a very romantic dinner!

Our first time back since
Our first time back since it changed from the Left Bank. Very happy with the more approachable and enjoyable menu, our seafood was very good and the bread pudding dessert one of the best I have ever had. The view is hard to beat and perfect for a special occasion dinner. Service was exceptional.

Duck Dining Delight
Great food, spectacular view, and excellent service. A little pricey but worth it for a special night out.

my husbands steak was wonderful, and he is picky. I had an oyster dish wich should have been left as an app rather than an entree. Overall food was exceptional.

Our server, Susie, was terrific.
Our server, Susie, was terrific. We thought the food and wine list were a little pricey, New York, Washington DC prices. The food was very good. Cocktails were made to everyone's liking.

Best place on the outer banks
Beautifully renovated dining room with open kitchen showing professionals diligently at work with a imposing white haired chef at the pass completing this classic picture straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.
Service cannot be more professional, friendly, accommodating, informative. The sommelier knowledgeable without airs or attitude, explaining wines to lay people in ways one can comprehend. And then the food: if you look for a meal you will remember, this is the place for you.

Sanderling Could Do Better
Disappointing overall. The Sanderling should be scoring 5s at all times. We enjoy fine dining, and casual dining on the Outer Banks. Service was excellent, waiter Matthew did all the right things. Beyond that, the food was, ehhh...a little bland and overpriced. We'll return again and hope to be surprised some day with a better menu to go with the price.

Pleasurable dining experience
All aspects were excellent. Our waiter was superb. The food was expertly prepared. We enjoyed the evening immensely.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
A new place worthy of its view.
Let me start off by saying that Kimball's Kitchen is a big step up from its predecessor the Left Bank. Gone is the pretentiousness and fixed menus. In its place we now have an excellent addition to the Outer Banks. The wait staff is extremely attentive, and then there is that amazing view! Food was top quality, although my wife said the mashed potatoes were too salty. She had tuna which comes with one of three sauces. Since she couldn't decide so they brought her all three. I had scallops which were quiet nice. The arugula salad is worth mentioning. Overall we will go back to Kimball's Kitchen whenever we visit. We did hear that they are closing for the season in midOctober. Should reconsider and have limited opening during colder months.

Great find in outer banks
Great food. The atmosphere was impeccable and the service was excellent. Will come back on our next stay.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great location! Great service! Great food! Located across from the Sanderling Resort with great views of the Currituck Sound. Upscale with very good food. The waiter even gave us a desert on the house. Menu has a bit of everything, steaks, seafood, and very interesting appetizers. I tried the steamed buns stuffed with pork belly and they were excellent. This is a great restaurant for "date night" but bring your credit card!

Very positive experience
Food was great - - halibut was particulalry great. And Matthew, our server, was one of the best we have had anywhere. It is beaucse of his excellent service that I am taking the time to write this review.

Best food on the Outer Banks
We've been traveling to the Outer Banks for 25 years, and this was the best restaurant meal we've ever had in that span. It was my wife's birthday, and they were spectacular. A terrific location overlooking the Currituck Sound, with food to match. We cannot wait to return.

This restaurant is at the Sanderling Resort in the Outer Banks. My young adult daughter and I ate their for my birthday diner and enjoyed it very much. The seafood was fresh and nicely prepared. What stood out to me though, was the friendly and professional service. The sommelier came over and advised my daughter about selecting a wine by the glass -- he was warm, not intimidating, and very knowledgeable. He took her seriously and gave her excellent advice, and made me very happy!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was good, my meal was better than my husband's. He had steak. We thought the wines were a bit overpriced. The coffee was especially good. The star of this restaurant was the waitstaff, at least on this night.
