Perfect for celebrations
Mr. Rain's Funhouse is one of my favorite places to be. I don't go nearly enough so when this event came up I knew where to plan. The entrees are interesting and there is something for everyone. There drinks are really over the top, exciting and worth the individual attention they get in the making... The hospitality and flexibility of the staff is impeccable - they operate as a team well, are pleased when you are asking the 50th question ~ amazing... The ambiance as the early evening winds down and the sun sets - the sparkle and wonder of the space begins.. wonderful experience.

One of the best restaurants in town
Much better than visits in prior years. We took a family of 9 there, including a disabled 6 year old, after visiting the museum and the harbor. The locally sourced food, the unusual cocktails, the great selection of American whiskeys all were first rate. Surprisingly, the bean cakes on the vegetarian plate were one of the big hits, and, not surprisingly, the crab and mango cocktail. Sauces were all bright and distinctive throughout the dinner. Importantly, when our little one got fussy at the beginning of the meal, the waitress instantly brought out pretzel rolls which solved the problem, and, at our request, the child's dinner came out quickly. Everybody would be glad to return to the restaurant and the fantastic museum as well.

Excellent food and drinks
Both the food and cocktails were original and noteworthy. A good find, and worth a repeat visit.

Small menu, big taste
You need to keep an open mind here. The menu offerings, which change daily, are a little different. Two I'd us dined and each had
An appetizer and main dish. Each was perfectly prepared and served. Foodies will be very pleased, but if you are someone
Who likes a more conventional menu, maybe this isn't the right place for you.

We had a nice time, but the food was not memorable. The featured cocktails look very strange on the menu, but then I didn't have one. I had a specialty lager, which was great. Altogether, we are very pleased to live a short walk from this somewhat neat place in a special venue. It has acres of space, so the bar scene does not disturb diners. There was a private occasion going on in a separate room which kept the noise away. As I said it was a nice time.

Fabulous Food, Funky Space
Mr. Rain's was wonderful, their menu is always changing! I especially love the Filipino inspired menu items! It does get a bit noisy and hard to hear sometimes. I highly recommend sitting out on the balcony, weather permitting. We took our mom there for Friday night dinner. The food was fantastic. There was a little problem with technology/billing but the manager came out and adjusted our bill to make up for the delay and mistaken multiple card charges. We are still waiting for the charges to clear - it takes a few days, but I appreciate their customer service in making it right.

Great cocktails and good food
The specialty cocktails are great, and the sangria flight offers a variety that any sangria-lover will enjoy. The food is on the ever-changing menu is good as well. I had the ribeye that was well-cooked, if a little fatty. My wife had the sausage plate. The house sauerkrat was a nice accompaniment as well. I did catch an error on the bill. The sangria flight was advertised on the menu as $23; however, I noticed that it showed as $25 on the bill. I'm sure it was an honest mistake and the staff was more than happy to correct it when it was brought to their attention. This was our second time at Mr. Rain's and we would definitely return again.

Cocktails are special
The creativity in the kitchen works best at the bar. For the food, it's a tad ambitious for regular folks. I thought I was a bit of a foodie, but the combinations on the plate were at times overwhelming and others a bit inconsistent. On the other hand, the drinks were crazy good.

Eclectic Art Museum Setting
A fun day at the American Museum of Visionary Art (a fabulously eclectic museum in Federal Hill) was perfectly married with a visit to this gem. The decor is industrial meets brocade with some fun chandeliers for good measure. The food feels farm fresh and somewhat inventive. We had the pulled pork and the fish of the day; perfect portions and special requests were well accommodated. We will certainly be back. A fun casual environment.

Welcome to the House of Fun
Once again a great experience at Mr. Rain's. The food is always amazing and innovative. The service was friendly and prompt. We love this place.

Girls Night Out
I purchased a Groupon and so my roommate and I went for a girls night out. We sat on the patio and had Chaz as our waitress. The Ambiance was awesome, the food was amazing and Chaz was attentive and engaging without being over bearing. She could tell we were out for a relaxing evening with good food and she made that happen for us! The Kim chi is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Could have eaten an entire bowl of it! Will be back!

A treat for all your senses
The art here is always really interesting, and although may look "off the wall" strange at first, the descriptions and explanations flip your perception of the pieces upside down and end up blowing your mind away. Needless to say, the AVAM is not your typical art museum experience.
The food at Mr. Rain's Fun House was delicious! We started with the poke and the crab and mango - must try both. I had their rye cocktail (so yum if you're a rye fan) and a friend ordered a glass of their white sangria, which was super refreshing. Oxtail terrine, shrimp and kimchi, and the ribeye were all melt in your mouth delicious. Warning: their cheesecake is made with Roquefort cheese = sheep's milk blue cheese (not a fan of goat cheese).

A hidden gem in the museum!
This restaurant was an absolute delight. Unlike other museum restaurants, this one was out of the park! The ambiance and decor is awesome and quirky in a great way.
More importantly, our dishes were quite tasty. The tuna poke appetizer with avocado ice cream was absolutely amazing. So many complex flavors and so delicate and perfect for a hot summer night. The charcuterie plate was very good and not too heavy. Get the sangria flights! So refreshing and tasty! Props to our waitress for letting us share our flights and still giving us hefty pours! Our chorizo burger was a little dry, but the flavors made up for it.
Overall, this restaurant is a repeater and I am eager to try other dishes at this restaurant!

Both the food and the specialty drinks were amazing.

!st Time Visit
Fun ambience with serious food. Great service, exceptional and innovative cocktails and food. We shared the crabmeat & mango tartare appetizer and could have eaten it all night. I had the roast chicken which was exceptional and I never even eat chicken when I dine out! My wife had the adobo short ribs and she thought they ranked very high and she is a ribs lover. Our waitress Chaz was very helpful and gave us great guidance as well as service. We will return.
5/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
My boyfriend and I came here on a double-date after checking out AVAM. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the soft-shell crabs, which were meaty and fried in a tempura. We also got the pickle plate and the mushrooms, which were great appetizers to share with the group. We shared a burger with kimchi on it, which was cooked perfectly and totally hit the spot. We really appreciate that they use organic local sourced meats as well.

Great view for outdoor seating
This was third time at restaurant and food quality had gotten better. Some of starters like Arugula salad needed more flavor. Dinner was great taste infusions. Great deserts wish more
Options were available for this.
5/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was fantastic. The wine list is extensive. The view is spectacular.

Very Nice Night Out
We have been here before and had incredible meals, so this particular night was a bit of a disappointment. It was very good, but not the knock it out of the park experience we are used to. We were both sad that we forgot to order a side veggie because the meals do not have anything in the way of vegetables included. We both had the red trout, which was surprisingly heavy.

Server was very nice and helpful. Loved seeing the manager helping out as well

Enjoyable night with highs and lows
Started off with cocktails which were fantastic. Inventive, seasonal, and delicious. The mini soft pretzels as the bread offering were excellent, eat them while they're warm. Charcuterie plate was nice. The shrimp and kimchi entree had great promise, but lacked flavor. The broth was one dimensional. My partner had the black eyed pea cake entree which was much better. Only two dessert offerings, seemed like an afterthought. We opted for liquid dessert with a couple dessert wines.

Always a treat
I have never been disappointed at Mr. Rains . The specialty sangria was divine as was the food.

Everything was great
From the appetizers through desert, everything was a pleasant surprise full of delicious creativity.

We were thrilled to find a restaurant of this caliber inside a museum. The ambiance was elegant and quirky, the food was delicious, our waitress was attentive and honestly we could ask for nothing better. I will definitely go back.

a real delight
... from the great cocktails to the excellent service and the fresh, well-prepared food, it's all more than good. art work from the museum adds a special spirit. good for parties, couples, small groups and even singles. fun!

Special place/Great view/Good Food
Just went to Mr Rain's Fun House for the first time and I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My three companions and I ate there for lunch and we all had excellent meals. The views are wonderful. There are nice touches like the addicting mini pretzel rolls. "Gourmet-ish" but not at all pretentious. Small menu selection but enough choices to please vegetarians, carnivores and everyone in between. Delicious hand cut french fries.

Mr. Rain's & the AVM are must sees
Mr. Rain's which is part of the American Visionary Museum is highly recommended if only for a cocktail on the patio. My meal and the meals of my family were all excellent. Do not miss either on your trip to Baltimore.
6/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Fun, Great Food!!
Mr. Rain's Fun House was definitely FUN. Both the service and food was exceptional. We ate outside and it was just perfect. I would recommend this restaurant.

Outdoor patio is great for kids!
We went to Mr. Rain's Fun House for dinner on Father's Day. My 20 month old son is really into windmills right now and was mesmerized by the "whirligig" that was rotating just outside of the outdoor patio. It was so nice to be able to enjoy a dinner without having to tell my son to constantly use his "inside voice" and without having to entertain him the entire time. My husband ordered the burger and I got the trout. Both dishes were very good, but we always have difficulty ordering here because the menu is limited and typically only has one or two dishes that appeal to us. The service was also great. We look forward to coming back to Mr. Rain's again soon!

No circus atmosphere--thankfully!
Place is mis-named, as this is a mighty pleasant and so not raucous cafe. Definitely not a fun house. a few arty touches, sure, in decor and plating. Our high-maintenance group was well taken care of. Business lunch was a terrific value. Everything was delicious, attractive, and there were nice surprising concoctions. Perfect precedent to touring the BVAM!
7/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is a true hidden secret and I'm sure the locals know how amazing the food is and the environment. If you don't have time to do the museum then at least hit the dining options and the gift shop. You won't be disappointed!
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Mr. Rain's Fun House never disappoints. Whether it's lunch or dinner, week day or weekend, the food and service are exceptional.
7/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Located in the Visionary Art Museum, this restaurant is definitely fun. The food was fantastic. I had the black eyed pea cakes - yum! And the pretzel rolls they provide - wow, I could have eaten those all day. The service was a bit slow, especially considering the place wasn't very busy. Went for a lunch with 4 business colleagues; perfect for that event.
7/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
The one time I ate there, everything was pretty great other that the fact that there was about 7-10 kids with different families running around. That's not the restaurants fault, but the noise level did distract from the meal.
8/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
A friend and I were looking for a place to celebrate our birthdays and of all the places to choose from - this was our first choice and it did not disappoint!! The food was excellent - beautifully presented - lovely wait staff - delicious specialty cocktails -- no one rushed us out - We had the feeling we were welcome to stay as long as we wished and we had lots of catching up to do with each other. Wish I had a birthday every week to celebrate. Don't know much about wines but my companion said it was a great list.

This place was awesome! Great cocktails, super service, and outstanding food. The fact that it's in the Visionary Arts Museum is a bonus. Dont miss this one!

Outdoor Dining at Mr. Rain's
We really enjoyed dining outside at lunch time at Mr. Rain's Funhouse. They have a great space that is not street level so you do not have to endure car fumes and passers by 2 feet away. The server was pleasant and efficient. The eclectic menu was very good. Watch out for spicy pickles on the pickle plate.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Alway consistently good food & serv
The food is always consistently amazing. Service is always exceptional. When you go ask for Thomas who is marvelous and very meticulous. When Perez the owner is behind the bar have him make you a DBA his style when preparing is worth the order. Oh and the drink is scumious too.

The 3 of us really enjoyed lunch a delicious lunch. Our waiter was terrific !! Thank you for a fun experience--looking forward to coming back !!

Lunch at Mr Rain's
Warm pretzel rolls, with grainy Dijon mustard, were delicious and satisfying to start. Bloody Marys were tasty but insufficiently potent and spicy, despite my requesting them that way. Chef's salad had deliciously moist and tasty smoked trout and fresh greens, but the hard-boiled egg was overcooked with telltale grey around the yolk. The smoked trout sandwich, with accompanying well-dressed Asian slaw, was excellent. Apple pie was satisfying, especially where the apples were, but the edge crust had little taste. Espresso was very good. The Lurisia sparkling water is excessively carbonated; we would prefer Pellegrino or, better yet, Badoit. Service, mostly attentive, became harried at one point for no apparent reason; apology was offered.

Fab Food At AVAM
Baltimore you are missing out on a wonderful dining experience! We don't eat here often but when we do we wonder what took us so long to go back!! If I lived in Fed Hill or The Ritz I would be here weekly. Really fun vib decor, imaginative sculptures and mirror garlands hanging over the bar. Our waiter was wonderful, our meal well paced. Excellent wine by the glass/cocktails and extensive wine list. The Tuna Poke was so delicious we were forking each other for the last bit on the plate. Warm pretzel rolls with spicy mustard to die for. Duck Confit served tex/mex style layered between tortillas with salsa, cheese and a bit of spice. Large portion I finished at home the next day. So good!! Burger and ribeye were excellent, also. Go!
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Quirky and Interesting
The cocktails were fantastic and the complimentary pretzel bites and mustard sauce were addicting. The Duck Confit was pretty spicy and the Trotter tasted a little bland, but other than a few spice level issues, the food was great. Our waiter, while attentive in the beginning, pretty much forgot us once we got our entrees. He did not ask if we needed more drinks and it took ages to get the check.

Brunch at Mr Rain's Fun House
Menu was very inventive and the food was great. I liked the small plates. Pumpkin soup was amazing - better than my homemade version. Crab and mango appetizer was delish. Even decaf coffee was good. Waiter was very informative and attentive. I would definitely come back.

The food was ok but the service was impeccable. I enjoyed the eclectic atmosphere and art work. All the staff including the bartender were great.

Great brunch place
Very creative brunch menu with standard fare and other variations. Superb service, great funky location in AVAM. While a great dinner place, I do not think this place is on the radar in Bmore for brunch yet I think it is every bit as good as the places folks usually think of (e.g. Woodberry, Food Market). Nice, thoughtful wine list.
