Really love this restaurant
Really love this restaurant for the ambience and especially the authentic Persian food prepared like it should be. Very healthy eating.

This place is all about the food. Best hummus and grape leaves ever. The rice and eggplant appetizers are scrumptious. I recommend the kebabs and stew for entrees. But you could make a dinner out of the excellent appetizers. Definitely a value for the tastiness of the food. Service not so gracious, but fine; no errors.

This is a wonderful neighborhood
This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. The food is delicious, the prices reasonable and even Iranians go there so it must be great.

Friendly service and the tables
Friendly service and the tables are far enough apart that one can carry on a nice conversation. The only real drawback is the mediocre food.

What a great neighborhood
What a great neighborhood find! Very nice space. The menu is varied, and the stews, kabobs, chicken and lamb dishes were all quite tasty. Starters of different eggplant and taboule were very good, and service was extremely friendly and helpful. You've got to try the dark cherry rice!

We were in NYC for a fun weekend
We were in NYC for a fun weekend and passed by Persepolis. Found it in Michelin and decided to try. What a treat! The service was excellent and the restaurant was all it was cracked up to be. The humus was to die for, don't pass up. A wonderful lentil soup and the Khoresht Fesenjan was one of the best dishes we have had in some time. All in all, a wonderful, and memorable experience. This restaurant will be on my list for Upper East Side places in the future.

A neighborhood find
This was our first visit to this Persian restaurant and we very much enjoyed our meal. The salad trio was delicious. We also enjoyed the eggplant appetizer trio but it was so filling that we felt like we had ordered too much appetizers. The main dishes we tried (the chicken stew and the white fish) were both flavorful and delicious. Best of all, our waiter was great. He had a smile on his face every time he served us, and he was attentive and courteous. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual. We'll definitely return.

A great spot
We went here because a friend served the restaurant's food at a party. Well worth the trip from the West Side. A nice atmosphere, strong service and even better food. Special spot.

I knew nothing about Persepolis and just trusted the reviews I saw on Open Table. I was not disappointed. My friends and I ordered the appetizer and salad sampler which turned out to be a great deal of food and it was all delicious. We almost could have skipped the entrees, the portions were so generous. However, our entrees were excellent, all of them, there were a fair number of wines by the glass which were good, and the service was attentive, helpful, friendly, and quick. We all would happily go back - it was an excellent meal all around, and the prices were reasonable, especially given the portion size.

Get the yogurt & cucumber!
The food was absolutely delicious, and everything else was wonderful as well. Highly recommended--will be going back!

I would rate Persepolis at
I would rate Persepolis at the high end of "very good", if there is one. No particular weaknesses. Even the little bit of cabbage slaw on the entree plate was fine. All elements of service were warm and efficient. It was very quiet in general on the UES the evening we ate at Persepolis, but the place was lively and festive.

Great Persian Food!
We treated our boss there for lunch as a 'go away' gift since he is relocating back to California. From start to finish the service, food and hospitality was excellent! Everyone raved about the menu choices including my boss who is a vegetarian. The rice was cooked to perfection. I had the lemon chicken (perfecto!) The Baklava (one of my favorites) was the best Baklava I ever had --- not too oversweet - just right! In the end, everyone left smiling and satisfied and agreed they will visit again. I, am looking forward to my next visit!

Very Good consistent Restaurant
We have been going to Persepolis for more than 15 years and our experience has been gratifying. Its food is very consistent and unique for Manhattan's Upper East side, its value is excellent, and the service courteous, professional, and totally un intrusive. Persepolis stews are truly excellent and its egg plant starters among the best in NYC. We recommend it highly.

Better than average
We have been going regularly to La Turka (two doors down) for our Medditeranean fix, but decided to check Persepolis. The service was outstanding, very attentive without being overbearing. The food was perhaps a little better than good. I had the shredded chicken stew, and wasn't a big fan of the very sweet spicing. Mary had the terderloin and thought it was very good. we split a Greek salad which was good, but not memorable. We sat outside without thinking about the subway construction on 2nd Ave. so the view and ambience left something to be desired. Overall, better than average.

best Persian restaurant in NYC
This is the best Persian restaurant in NYC. Kababs, appetizers, and desserts are very delicious, and very persian style! The stews can be better. I tried all Persian restaurants in NYC, and find Persepolis as the best one. I tried this restaurant several times.
This time, we were a group of colleagues. The owner is very generous. The waiter brought a collection of appetizers and some desserts on the house! I really appreciated it.

Delicious and Great Value
The most wonderful food. Absolutely delicious and excellent value!

Three delicious rice choices
Humus, babaganoush ME dishes on another level--Persian. All delicious. Three rice choices. Grilled dishes are served with rice and grilled tomatoes, Stews are delicious. Rose flavored ice cream. Divine baklava. Wonderful ambiance and service. The Ash at sister restaurant, Shalezeh is wonderful and I'm sure it's also wonderful at Persepolis. Delighted to find Alpha Omega wine, too. Loved our dinner (second time there). Will go back again and again.

Consistently excellent neighborhood
Consistently excellent neighborhood restaurant. We have been dining and lunching at Persepolis for more than 15 years and we are always struck by its consistent quality, value, and friendly professionalism of its staff. We love its egg plant starters and especially its delicious and special stews matched with the different types of rice dishes. As Baklava connoisseurs we think that Persepolis' Baklava is one of the very best in NYC.

My wife and i love this place. It''s always our 1st stop every time we get to NYC. It's second to my mom's persian cooking and that's a huge compliment coming from someone who is a professional culinarian. My favorite is the Gourmet Sabzi with the Sour Cherry Rice & their tomato and cucumber salad. The prices are great to for the quality of dishes that you receive. My wife and I look forward to our next visit.

Everything we had was delicious. I ordered the Caspian, mistakenly thinking it was saffron chicken and chicken kubideh (ground chicken kabob). When my plate arrived with saffron chicken and ground sirloin kebab I asked the waiter what I had received. After he explained what I had ordered, I proceeded to eat my meal, and was taken by surprise when a complimentary ground chicken kabob arrived at the table. Although the saffron chicken was on the dry side, both kebabs were delicious, tender, and tasty, as was my husband's eggplant/bean stew. We were full, and took home leftovers, but were curious about dessert and ordered baklava and grilled pineapple w/rose ice cream. The baklava was an ample portion, served warm, and melted in our mouths.

Charming and unusual
A warm welcome from the attentive head-waiter and his team made our small group feel instantly at home in this small and charming restaurant. What to choose? Entrees range from the more traditional kebab-style dinners, chicken, or fish, to more unusual fare such as the shredded chicken stew with walnuts and pomegranate, accompanied by rice with sour cherries or rice with dill and fava beans...hmmm. The waiter was helpful in suggesting suitable pairings and quickly affirmed that we could happily share the 3-eggplant appetizer. A light red wine from Anjou proved just the thing to set off the flavors of the food. The bill was reasonable and the whole experience so pleasant that we're already planning a return visit.

Very worthy place
Great atmosphere, food and service. Wait staff was awesome.

I meant to reserve at a different restaurant, but chose this one by accident. It was a lucky mistake. The food was fresh and delicious. It is a great neighborhood place but also worth a trip. The servers a little forgetful, but overall fine.

An unrivaled dining experience!
Persepolis provides an unrivaled dining experience!
My friends were running late, coming from outside NYC. The hotess checked up on me a few times and was pleasant, not at all annoyed. I ordered a cocktail while waiting and got tipsy since my stomach was empty. I mentioned that to the hostess as I declined a refill and she was kind enough to bring me a whole tray of bread. Once my friends arrived and we all ordered, our food came promptly and everything was well-flavored and delectable. The meat was also so tender that one of my friends described it as melting like butter in your mouth. Despite the late arrival of my party, we were not rushed out the door; we had a terrific meal - a truly unrivaled dining experience!

The food from appetizers through dessert was excellent and the service was outstanding. Our waitress was very conscientious, seemed like a family run place. They seemed to really want you to enjoy your dining experience. Tasting appetizers were generous as well as the entrees. Delicious sour cherry rice!

Great diner at Persepolis
We have been there before and it is always a treat to return. We were a group of seven and we were seated in the back and were tended after at all times. Food was excellent. Most of us had one of their lamb dishes and they were cooked to perfection. Appetizers were plentiful and very good to share with each other.
Restaurant is recommended for dinner

Great Persian food!
Went to Persepolis with 4 colleagues. Asked for a round table so we could talk - & that's just what we got! We started with appetizer & salad tasting - 4 appetizers, 4 salads - and also ordered the beet salad with yogurt. Moved on to the Khoresht Fesenjan, the Khoresht Badamjan and the Grilled Jumbo Shrimp with 3 different rice dishes. Everything was very good, service was friendly and efficient but not rushed, and restaurant was quiet that night so our group had a very nice visit. I will definitely be back for more.

The food was really good, I had the stew with walnuts and pomegranate with basmati rice and favs beans and I could have licked the bowl clean. Service was a little too attentive, as soon as I took a drink of water they were there to fill my glass. This seemed like I was being monitored. I don't want my glass to be empty but refilling after every sip is a little too much care. Highly recommend.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Hummas, Beet Salad with feta cheese were yummy!
Sirloin/eggplant stew was tasty, but short on the sirloin, as was steak entree. Baklava was the BEST we ever had!
Would definately return to sample other appealing entrees for which they probably excel..........like lamb, fish or chicken

Great food, outstanding service
Great food. I come here about twice a year and the food has always been phenomenal. The sour cherry rice is amazing and Ialways get it. But this review us about the service. I took a date here and we were having a great time, dinner took us almost 5 hours! We were talking and laughing the entire time! (we obviously hit it off!). They kept refilling our waters and left us alone, giving us our privacy. Didn't even give me the bill untill I asked for it. This was on a busy weekend night, too. I'm sure they could easily have asked us to leave and figuring how long we were there, i wouldn't have blamed them. But they didn't, and I'm very thankful for it. I did leave a nice tip.
