A Special Dinner at Il Violino
My wife and I had dinner at Il Violino before a Paul Taylor Dance Co. performance at Lincoln Center. We share dinners and started with a fresh and vibrant Trecolore salad, followed by a pasta special: penne with chunks of eggplant (the preparation we prefer). Our entree was also fresh and well prepared, a delicious and moist Branzino (two pieces of a type of sea bass), served with steamed seasonal vegetables as requested. We also had an ample glass of Pinot Grigio. And we closed with lemon ricotta cheesecake, accompanied by decaf latte. Service throughout was attentive without being intrusive, and everything was prepared as requested: the steamed vegetables instead of sautéed, for instance. Ordinary food, but made special by the chef.

The seafood soup was tasty
The seafood soup was tasty but much too salty, but the chicken parmigiana was excellent. Fast, friendly service, very pleasant staff, very good food. Recommended when you're in the Lincoln Center area.

So impressed with this local
So impressed with this local find. Would recommend it to anyone for a date night, dinner with good friends, a visit from the parents, or a solo night out before the movies. The service was exceptional - over-attentive at times, but exceptional. I will be back! A lot!

We made a reservation for pre-theater dinner based on previous reviews and were not disappointed. Warm service and good food, especially enjoyed grilled vegetables and seafood main courses. We will be back!

The occasion was a get-together
The occasion was a get-together with dear friends from Europe after many years. We got so distracted before our visit to Il Violino that we were 2 (two) hours late. The staff at Il Violino laughed it off, were very gracious. Here again, we had so much to talk about that our lunch stretched into close to 2-1/2 hours. No problem, we were left alone, only checked upon and refilled once in a while. We had a marvelous time. Oh, the food was delicious, and the sidewalk scene très New York! The glory of this Violin is not its sound but its glassed-in around-the-corner verandah, comfortable in every season.

Had some friends in town and of course took them here, our favorite neighborhood italian restaurant. Had a great bottle of wine and amazing food. Never disappoints. Their homemade linguini is my absolute favorite. Can't stop coming back...for the food and friendly staff!

Lives up to its reputation!
Although my family had eaten here before, this was my first time. Il Violino did not disappoint! The bread was great, the salds were excellent, and my chicken armigiana was amazing. Did I mention that the Montepulciano was outstanding! The service is very good but not crowding. The atmosphere is inviting, cozy, and friendly. I would definitely come back here next time I am on the UWS.

Il Violino has twice so far
Il Violino has twice so far served us very good dinners with pleasant, accomodating service in a timely way. I think it is a fine choice for dinner before events at Lincoln Center. I liked sitting where I could watch the action on the street yet still be warm and well fed!

Went here with my Daughter after a long separation. Everything was perfect! The food was delicious and the service was very professional. It was Mother's so all the staff wished me Happy Mith's Day when the came to the table and the owner "treated" us with after dinner Lemon Cello. Will definitely return.

Reliable Italian near Lincoln Ctr
The food is well above average and the staff used to moving diners along so they can make curtains at Lincoln Center. It's one of our favorite spots when attending performances
5/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
The restaurant was able to accept us early. The food was excellent, and the service was smooth and attentive without being fussy.

Ladies Nite Out
Nice place for 4 gals to get together to celebrate our birthdays. Affordable. Filling. Good drink and very friendly staff. Waiter was patient while we talked and drank the first hour before even ordering our meal. We'll be back.

PRE THEATER - LINCOLN CENTER
WE WERE SHOWN TO OUR TABLE PROMPTLY AT OUR TABLE UPON ARRIVAL EXACTLY AT OUR RESERVATION TIME. FOOD WAS GOOD AND FAIRLY PRICED. RESTAURANT WAS SOMEWHAT NOISY AND IT WAS HARD TO HAVE A CONVERSATION AT OUR TABLE.
OUR SERVER DANNY WAS EXCELLANT ALTHOUGH THE NOISE LEVEL MADE HEARING SPECIALS HARD.
WOULD GO THERE AGAIN PRE-LINCOLN CENTER

Lincoln Center Goodie
Pleasant atmosphere, good service, our food was good, not outstanding - could have been the choices we made.
We would recommend if in Lincoln Center area.
6/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
We ate here just before going to a concert at Lincoln Center. It's about a 5 minute walk from that venue.
The food was fresh, well prepared and tasted great. The server was polite, friendly, attentive and helpful.
I had Eggplant Parmesan, and it was among the best I've had. The slices were thin, not oily, breaded just right. The sauce was delicious, with just the right amount of cheese. My wife had a pasta dish (I had never heard of it and don't recall the name - very thick spaghetti-like noodle). It was cooked to perfection, and again, the sauce was outstanding. Ricotta cheesecake for dessert was just the right size, texture and consistency. The perfect ending to a great meal.
I'd eat here again in a heartbeat, and we will!

We have always liked Il Violino, but his time the food and wine were better than ever! It has easily become our favorite neighborhood dining spot.

Go Once, you will want go again!
I can not say enough about how much I enjoyed my first visit to Il Violino
The staff was so very hospitable and the food was delicious, just delicious!
They were happy to have us for dinner.
Food courses arrived in good time, while we enjoyed such fresh bread, really nice wine and conversation where we could all hear each other!
Perfect combinations of ambience, food and service.
I am already planning another visit!

Best Eggplant Parm
Every time we come here I love it more and more. Their homemade pastas are so good, and their eggplant parm special is my absolute favorite! Can't go wrong here.

My girlfriend and I stumbled
My girlfriend and I stumbled on this place a year ago, and ever since it has been one of our romanic dining destination of choice. The food is great, we've both tried new dishes every time and have yet to be disappointed. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. The wine list is short, but the selection is top notch. We will be returning guests as long as the doors are open.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Il Violino has the best homemade pasta! Even their linguini with just garlic and olive oil is phenomenal. The staff is always so friendly and attentive. This is my favorite neighborhood UWS spot for dinner hands down.

One of our favorites in the
One of our favorites in the Lincoln Ctr. area. Very good Italian food - traditional not trendy. Consistently delivers quality food-especially the homemade pastas- at a reasonable price in a Manhattan neighborhood where both of these are in short supply. Waitstaff is always pleasant and accommodating. Really good!

Great Find near Lincoln Center
Stumbled across this restaurant when we were scoping out places on Columbus Ave at lunch. Liked it so much we brought our family and their friends when they came up to the city to meet us for a play and dinner. Always a little dicey when you recommend something to folks (particularly the friends whom we never met before), but, everyone loved it. Keeping this restaurant in my contacts for future meals.

A fine choice near Lincoln Center
Il Violino is a fine Italian restaurant a couple of blocks North of Lincoln Center. It lacks the frenzied, touristy ambiance of the establishments closest to Lincoln Center, and is a pleasant alternative that is still within a 5 minute walk. As it's in a more residential neighborhood the Lincoln Center crowd probably doesn't notice it, a good thing. Service is excellent, and attentive to curtain times. The prix fixe and the main menu are both broad and able to satisfy most tastes. Wines are reasonably priced.

The Friendly Waiter
Very good pasta with salmon and broccoli. A waiter who was very attentive and fun. He was good with a lady and her daughter who came in who were from England or Australia. He made them feel good to be in NYC. An art.

great lunch at Il Violino
4 ladies thoroughly enjoyed their pre fix lunch! Great price, wine, salad, salmon, veggies and potatoes.
We all said we would return. Try this restaurant.

The pasta at Il Violino is some of the best in the city. Their homemade linguini is better than anything I have had at much pricier restaurants. As well as their eggplant park. I am so happy they are in my neighborhood so I can come and eat here every week!

Il Violino was a good "find"
We were looking for an Italian restaurant close to a movie theater where we would be coming from.
Il Violino was just up the bloc, very charming, excellent service and the food was delicious.
Enjoyed our dinner and would return when in that neighborhood.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
The Il Violino is one of my favorite restaurants in the Lincoln Center area. The food is excellent, the service is prompt and very attentive. Very friendly staff, they always suggest what is best for your. My husband and I keep coming back when we are in the area, and just recently we brought our good friends for brunch. We were not disappointed, just the opposite - the service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We all had different frittatas, nice in presentation but also great in taste, sumptuous drinks to supplement the food, an excellent coffee and a desert to die for! We had a wonderful time, our moods up and charged with "fuel" after our fab brunch at Il Violino!

Pre-Lincoln Center Reliable GoTo
With a wraparound veranda diners feel they're a part of the UWS scene. Prompt, attentive service, a wide variety of specials and a generous prix fixe offering, this is a great spot to start your evening. Delicious fresh made pastas are a must.

Food and Service were quite good. Recommend you sit around the glass windows and not inside where it is too crowded
and near the noisy bar.

We had a fabulous dinner at Il Violino! Can't wait to go back next time we are in NYC. I will definitely be recommending it to friends and family! Everything we had was delicious! We had a lamb dish, a fish dish, Gnocchi in Vodka cream sauce and a spaghetti dish! All were amazing! Looking forward to returning and the neighborhood is convenient. What a great find!

Went for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. Although we arrived 1/2 hour ahead of our reservation, we were seated immediately. Food was excellent. Nice view onto Columbus Ave and or 68th Street from many tables. Reasonably priced and delicious food.

Dependable and tasty
The lunch special for $19 is astounding. What a deal. Soup or salad, entree [chicken parmagiana was delicious], glass of wine, great service, excellent food!
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
Took my family here for dinner after catching a movie. Everything was amazing and delicious. The mussels, the eggplant parm, the gnocchi, everything we had was great! Although extremely busy, the service was wonderful as always. Thank you for a great dinner, yet again!

Reliable Italian Food
Good food; good location near Lincoln Center and moderate prices keep us cdoming back here for many years.

Good Italian but cold feet
Very good food and attentive service. However I think they recognized us as non New Yorkers and gave us a table next to the door. It was a chilly, rainy thirty degree evening. The seats would be great on a summer evening but it was cold and you did not get to experience the ambiance of the restaurant.

Reliable good food
I've been eating here for many years. The food is always good. Also the service. And the location is excellent near Lincoln Center and the AMC THEATRE
