Amazing downtown St Louis Italian
I was downtown for the marathon and was looking for an Italian restaurant to carb load. Gio's is downtown and close to everything. Matt, my server, was prompt in getting me seated and knowledgeable about the menu. The Gio's salad is a basic house salad but tasty without being overbearing. I ordered just the spaghetti and meatballs, but specialty ordered it without sauce. There was no hesitation from the kitchen and the meal was satisfying even without the sauce. The meatballs were not tasty. No dessert this time, but definitely next time. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are staying in downtown Saint Louis. Great Italian food at very affordable prices in a pleasant atmosphere (Sinatra overhead) with an attentive staff.

It was a very nice restaurant
It was a very nice restaurant but I was confused why me and my girlfriend were the only ones in the restaurant at 7 on a Friday night.

It's hard to give these guys a proper review, as there was only one other table beside myself. Gio's is right in the heart of downtown, and probably draws a good lunch crowd, or a good crowd after games at the Cardinals' stadium. Not such much on a Monday night.
I started with a variation on the venerable Salade' Caprese--the tomatoes were covered with warm goat cheese and then topped with a balsamic reduction--really tasty. The veal was quite good as well. St. Louis is known for their gooey butter cake, and Gio's certainly delivers a winner in this department as well.

Our first visit. The food
Our first visit. The food was great--we ordered two of the day's specials--risotto and a red snapper in broth--and enjoyed the delicious taste and lightness of the food. Service was good even though there was one large group and another smaller group in the restaurant at the same time.
We'll definitely be back.

The food at this restaurant is excellent and the butter cake dessert is a must-have . The only negative thing is when you walk into the restaurant there was nobody to greet us and it appeared the restaurant was closed. There were no signs to direct you to that and we had to seek out staff to find a place to sit. Once seated The service was excellent.

Went for Downtown Restaurant Week. Of the 27 restaurants that participated, we picked Gios for the special menu they presented. All at my party had something different, and we were all very satisified. Would definitely go again.

Good food. Be sure to tell the chef to go easy on the salt.

We went for Down Town Restaurants Week. Every year we try a different place to eat. This year was by far the best.

Quiet dining room and active bar
This almost seems like 2 separate restaurants, with a quiet back area where we went in addition to a good-time bar that was packed with Cardinal's fans. On that note, we had a hard time parking because of the game, but it turns out they validate for the parking lot in their building. It was restaurant week, where we got a great bargain for wonderful food. We were among the only people in the main dining room. I would go back.

On the Mall
Gio's is highly visible on the Mall--easy to find. Its bar is separate and can handle a rowdy baseball crowd without affecting diners. Service was very attentive. Outdoor dining could be very nice in nice weather, although it may be a little removed from the kitchen. The food was very good, although the main course portion, perhaps scaled for Downtown Restaurant Week prices, was on the petite side.

Very nice for business lunch
Gio' s has a diverse menu of Italian fare, competently performed and presented in a comfortable setting. Suitable for business lunches. Wait staff is efficient, though a bit obtrusive. Enjoyable and reliable.

Best calamari ever!!!
Very freindly staff. Love the mayfair dressing on the house salad. Generous entrees and definatly don't miss the calamari. Lightly breaded, very crispy and delicously tender. Free parking before ball games so great place to start off an evening in the city.

We visited on a Friday night
We visited on a Friday night before the baseball game. Our server was very knowledgable about all the menu items and special requests were no problem. The menu is Italian with pizza, pasta, sandwiches and salads. We did not have appetizers but the selections looked very good. Gio's stays open for an hour after the game so we went back for a round of drinks and a pizza. They were not busy and ready to close up but remained open for us and were extremely friendly, not at all bothered by staying open.
We will definitely be returning often.

Great Little place!
we went after the game on Saturday! Great Service! Good food. I am currently on a weight loss program and found something that fit within my range! (Ahi Tuna Salad) Definitely would go back.

Gio's is an outstanding way to get a Cardinal Baseball evening started and following up with a night cap after the game. Great food and service is what can be expected. Probably frequent Gio's 30 or more time a season--never disappointed.

Good for groups
We went on a night when the Cardinals were not in town and had a quiet, relaxing meal. Our server was very attentive, the food was inexpensive and was served quickly. Parking is not a problem because they validate parking in the Gateway One garage. There was 5 of us and the server had no problem giving each of us separate checks. I would come back some time for dinner after an afternoon Cardinal game.

Excellent business lunch
This is my newest go-to location for a reliably good business lunch. I enjoy the private booths, the enthusiastic (but sometimes slow) service, and the good selection of vegetarian entrees.
