I took my Italian husband
I took my Italian husband there for his birthday. Nice selection of Italian wines with a few from California. The salumi & cheese plates were excellent. We shared a huge misto salad. He loved his house made tagliatelle with fennel pork sausage but thought the portion size was small. I had the braised veal stracatto which was a bit bland - could have used a bit more of the reduction sauce. For dessert we had the bignolata with hazelnut gelato. Yummy. Other than the pasta dish, portions were generous. In addition to the salad, we also shared dessert, topped of with cappacino and Grand Marnier.

Nice and quiet until 7:30
Nice and quiet until 7:30 when we left but getting too noisy, which our dinner partners say it usually is in evenings after 8.

We are always passing by this restaurant since it is right down the street from our apartment. It is always busy and now we know why. The food here was fresh and of high quality. The service was very good and the restaurant itself was comfortable, but still trendy. Overall, we were happy to find a new neighborhood "go to" restaurant for a nice meal.

Chef Michele took us from San Francisco and sent us to Italy with every bite. He know how to pull flavor from each ingredient he prepared for us. My family felt the Italian charm from the staff. I would say that this is one of the best Italian places in San Francisco.

We were there for the first time prior to attending an event at the Palace of Fine Arts. So close, you could walk it if you are a walker...we arrived before they opened, but they were all present and fine with seating us. Two of us were waiting for our 3rd person, so they were more than willing to get a drink while we were waiting... great experience, will be return! I also accidently left my phone, they had found it and said they would hold on to it. They closed at 10:00, we got out of the event at 10:10, and called just to see if I could still pick it up since I drove up from San Jose area... YES they said no problem - the staff was amazing!!

A little bit of Italy in the Marina
Delicious food in an atmosphere that evoked a neighborhood in Puglia or Tuscany.

Lunch at Ristobar
I recently had a early evening solo dinner at ristobar. I was quickly seated and a waiter came to my table straight away and offered me the menu and some water and bread. Food was great, not cheap though. I think you can find a better mix between quality and price but this place is a sure pick if you want quality food.

A fantastic meal
Took some friends here on Sunday night June 23rd, table of four. We have great service from the start, wiater was knowlegable and very friendly and the Manageress made a point of coming over and chatting, telling us about the hitsory of the place, the chef and suggesting some really special items on the menu. This place is professional, flawless restaurant were you know you will eat and drink very well indeed !

Nice Little Neighborhood Italian
There's really nothing not to like about this restaurant. The food and the price are very good and the wine list is fantastic. I had the chefs "special" pasta (according to the server) and liked it very much. It wasn't overpowered by sauce and seem, as advertised, like an authentic dish from Milan. We were told that the chef/owner is from Milan. My wife had scallops which she said were very good. The other couple both had pizzas, both of which looked excellent and there wasn't much left. I suppose they enjoyed them.
Just to be clear, this is not what many consider a traditional Italian restaurant. No chicken parm in sight. This worked out well for us because my wife is not a lover of red sauce Italian.

We happened upon Ristobar, and we are glad that we did! The food was delicious, the ambiance well appointed, and the service was attentive. While I am not a fan of TV's in a restaurant, since the full bar shares the space with the dining room, it can't be avoided. Luckliy the volume was low and there was not a rowdy group of fans cheering on their teams. We will be back!

Consistent happy experience
Perfectly prepare fish, pasta, nice presentations, happy, helpful servers, make for a special evening !

Still wonderful for small meals!
We like Ristobar since the portions are small, and you very unique and tasty.
Always ask what the staff likes: since the dishes change, they are the ones most current.
Bottle wine list is pricy, but some less expensive good wines on the Bar Wine list.
(Forget about asking for a crisp, dry white: doesn't seem to fit their buyer's ideas.)

Ristobar Consistently Great!

One of the Best Tables
Shared salad, pasta, pizza. Very different but quite elegant preparations.
In my Open Table reservation, I asked for an outside table but none was reserved. The elegance of your cuisine deserves a higher level of welcome and service. Your wait-staffers were friendly and reasonably responsive, but they, too, would benefit from believing and understanding that they were serving a cuisine well above the average. By my measure, the best in the area at the moment.

Can the Canned Music
No need for piped-in music; the patrons generate enough buzz. Food was elegant in moderate portions. Very helpful waitress. Dine early for less noise.

Food was wonderful. Parking
Food was wonderful. Parking was a HUGE Problem. They need to get their wine program together. I ordered two different bottles neither was available. The manager appologized saying that they had given the wrong list. They were very nice but the complementary glass arrived when I was almost done with dinner. I am sure they will fix the problem. The food was great.

Always a hit
We oftentimes forget about this wonderful Chestnut restaurant but every time I dine here, I am reminded why this is one of my favorite under the radar restaurant.
Monday evening was pretty quiet but normally we tend to dine on the weekends where the activity is raised.
Food and service is always amazing and the prices are in line with what you would expect.
My only issue is I can never get through the menu because there are my favorites, and then new dishes I always want to try but can never seem to get to.
Great restaurant for pretty much any occasion. They also have a great wine menu and full bar.

Delicious & Authentic
The roasted rabbit tasted exactly the way my grandmother use to make it for us. I asked them to substitute the potatoes for polenta & that was no problem.

We came here a few years ago and were underwhelmed, but this time we were very pleasantly surprised by how great the food was. The three entrees we had (steak, pork, osso buco) were all cooked perfectly--tender and moist. Bravo, Ristobar!

Great Food...Great Experience!
We came here with a group of 8 for a friend's birthday party and had a wonderful experience. The ambiance was perfect...not too loud but good energy. The service was right on point and the food...oh the food! It was so delicious. We were able to order a bunch of small plates and also enjoy their homemade breadsticks which were super yummy! We had the seasonal gnocchi which were great...they were much larger than traditional gnocchi which made it fun. We had a couple sides such as the brussel sprouts, kale and the peperu...all which was savory and delicious. We also had cavatelli which was light and flavorful. And don't forget the wine! All in all, a fabulous experience!
