I've never been to Thalia, it was a pleasent surprise, will go back again, and the food was very good as well.

I regularly go to Thalia but this time I tried the restaurant week menu. Delicious for 3 courses at $38 Dinner. It's the professionalism of the executive chef to maintain his standards and he came through once again. The staff is always warm and welcoming. It's a fun place to go enjoy a meal, drink good wine and enjoy good company with your friends.

Love this place!
This is my third time coming here. I went for Restaurant Week and loved the Gouda soup!
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
The waitress came over immediately and greetied us asking if we had to make a theatre curtiain and what time that would be. We had plenty of time since we arrived at 6 and had an 8pm curtain around the corner. It was restaurant week so we ordered from that menu. Everything was delicious from the beet salad to the triple sorbet. Especially yummy was the creamy and decadent polenta.

Second time at this establishment
Second time at this establishment and both times were delightful. The ambience is New York chic and the food is very good. We ate there pre-theater and our waitress did a fabulous job of pacing us through the meal. The arugula salad was a treat and the crabcake, though small, was cooked to perfection.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything was very good about the dining experience. We chose from the restaurant month menu. The smoked Gouda soup was delicious. The monkish was very well prepared. The waiter was attentive and courteous. I would definitely come here again.

Convenient for pre-theater dinner
We went for Restaurant Week and enjoyed whatever we picked from the prix-fixe menu. I had the smoked gouda soup, ravioli and chocolate raspberry ice cream sandwich options, but others in our party had the beet and goat cheese salad, ceviche, cornish game hen and monkfish. Even the fussiest person only had a minor complaint - that the ravioli was a little too buttery when you got to the middle of the plate. Overall, a solid but uninspiring culinary choice.

On my recent trip to thalia I ordered the beet salad with pistachios and then the grilled prawns over a butternut squash risotto. Food was awesome... I'm still salivating over the prawn dish. For some reason the maitre'd marked our reservation as no show even though we have our name at the host stand we were 10 minutes early for an 8:45 reservation. Service was wonderful, polite, non intrusive and efficient. Will be returning to thalia shortly.

Had dinner here with friend and our 18 year old daughters before heading to see the Lion King. All our dishes were wonderful and desserts were fantastic! We would definitely go back the next time we are in NYC.

Good food at moderate prices--especially for Manhattan. Cheerful helpful staff. Made for a very pleasant day out prior to seeing
Soul Doctor which is right across the street.

It is not often that I cannot finish what is on my plate. The frittata served at brunch was very tasty and just too much for me or my friend ( another good eater) to complete.

Favorite lunch stop when in NYC; close to theatre distsrict, good staffa and service and a varied menu with lots of choices. My favorite is #1, the burger.

September NY trip
This restaurant was fabulous. Everything was perfect. Our server was Gina. I don't usually remember names of the servers, but I made sure that I remembered hers. She provided outstanding service and excellent menu suggestions. She understood that we had a show to get to, as most NY servers in the theater district do, but it is always nice to have that understanding.
I had the prawns, as recommended by Gina. I must tell you that these were the best prawns that I ever had. The risotto that came with the prawns was to die for. My wife ordered the Kobe beef burger with the caramelized onions and french fries. This too was a recommendation by Gina. Everything from the bun to the burger was outstanding.

Dining at Thalia prior to curtain is a busy time as the restaurant is in the theatre district. The mood is cheerful upbeat and welcoming. The food delicious and varied. The wine selection is quite good. Service was mixed as the place was packed. While re had to remind our server about our cocktails and to come back and take our order as we were not prepared to make a selection . We still enjoyed the evening. I would recommend coming again later in the evening.

Always a great back up
Thalia's has amazing sangrias, $1 oysters after 7PM and normally good food. I had the squid ink capellini as I always do but this time it was just okay.

Always a winner
Love this place for business lunches. It always makes a great impression on my guests. The food is delicious and there's something on the menu for everyone from the vegan to the carnivore. The atmosphere is hip and not too pretentious. If only they could find a way to get rid of those enormous tourist buses perpetually parked on Broadway.

Lovely Birthday Dinner
Arrived early before our reservation following a theater matinee and were seated promptly. Knew we would be full with mains and didn't have apps or salads. The food well-presented - not outstanding but good & perfectly cooked - short ribs and pork chop. Service by wait staff was prompt and unobtrusive. The dining area began filling closer to 6 pm. Merlot wine was reasonable and enjoyable - hard to choose except for price which kept our choice in check. Meal expensive for regular dining but not unexpected for area. Dessert choices made were ice cream/sorbet and warm chocolate lava cake - yummy. For the price charged ($3) no offer of a second cup of coffee - staff now attending new diners. Only disappointment of evening. Would go back again.

Truly Lovely Dining Experience
This was our first visit to Thalia's. We were a high school reunion party of 6. Each of us loved our selection. Prawn, lobster ravioli in cream sauce, parpardelle with lamb ragout, and salmon were on the table. I wish I ordered the lobster bisque-itlooked amazing, and reportedly was! What a gem!
9/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Perfect for pre-theater. Good food, fast service and efficient.

Chose Thalia's from Open Table restaurant list for our Anniversary dinner, not knowing what to expect sine we were visiting from Pittsburgh. Turns out it was a great choice. Marie Mi, our waitress was exceptional. The sea scallops were scrumptious, although the serving portion was small. The zucchini pasta was good, but the ham (or whatever the meat was) was a bit stringy & salty. The dish would have been enhanced with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. This dish is why my food rating was just very good. The mushroom rissotto side dish was excellent both in taste and texture and could have been a main entree selection. Overall, we had a very enjoyable Anniversary dinner in New York without breaking the bank.

THE THEATER DISTRICT HAS A GEM
This was our second visit to Thalia and not our last. Happy hour from 3pm-6pm makes it great ro a pre-theater or after work drink at reasonable prices. The menu is eclectic with variety fro everyone and the food is just amazing.
From a warm greeting when you enter to a warm salutation upon departure, the service at this restaurant is excellent.
Don't miss out on a great dining experience.
What a great find!

great pre-theatre spot
This restaurant is very attractive, the waitstaff have always been friendly and efficient, the food is delicious with some adventurous offerings. The Thalia salad I had was a fabulous mixture of vegetables and quinoa---hoping to get the recipe. This restaurant is a favorite when our show is in a theatre is on 52nd street.

Better and better
Have been to Thalia several times. I never review until I have done that. Each experience has been a delicious one. I have garlic allergies that can make dining out a challenge, but each time Thalia has not just accommodated me, they have made an extra effort to make my dish special. This last time, I had the prawns. They were huge, perfectly cooked over a bed of steamed spinach, with a wonderful lemon butter sauce on the side. It was fabulous! Our waiter was kind, interested, and interesting..not the usual rush rush you get most places. They always ask when you come in if you are going to the theater, and they take care of you, this is a great spot for before or after theater. Enjoy!

I had eaten brunch here before but had not had the chance to have dinner. The Lobster and Shrimp Ravioli was outstanding as was everyone's dinner. The young girl who waited on us did an absolute superb job to keep the pace with food. She was one of the best servers we had over the long weekend.

Fun meeting spot for brunch.
My wife and I met our daughter and her college roommate for a pre-theatre brunch. We had a fantastic waitress, the food was fine, and the restaurant had a fun upbeat vibe. We had a celebrity sighting which made the day.

Broadway-bound? Best bet.
Despite proximity to theaters, prices only moderate+. Food choices were choice, delicious choices at that. Try happy hour's $1 fresh oysters! Large venue broken up into more intimate spaces via walls, dividers, levels, works great. Moderate noise level, all from conversation, which is easy to pursue due to high, high ceilings. Huge wine list. Great beers. Saw Carson Kressley with his large party, at least two character actresses---that kind of friendly, non-intrusive atmosphere where all can relax for a great time. Terrific service and staff.

Great to see before Wicked
This restaurant is located directly across the street from the Gershwin Theater. Since we were seeing Wicked, and had never been to Thalia, we were pleasantly surprised when we realized that it was so close to the theater. The waitress we had was lovely. My only pet peeve was that she took a really long time to open our wine - at first she didn't have an opener with her when she brought the wine, then she took another table's order (a party of six with many questions about the menu and the specials) and then greeted another table. Other than that, the service was fine. Food was good. My children and I had the Kobe burgers and my husband had the sweet potato gnocchi. Too full and out of time for dessert. Would definitely recommend!

Good food but noisy and cramped
Ike too many New York restaurants, this place is noisy and cramped. It doesn't help that they play loud music in the background to further complicate your attempt to have a quiet conversation.

Thalia Never Falis to Please
I've dined here often for lunch. The food and service were consistently excellent. Went for dinner this past Friday night, the day after Thanksgiving. Again, food and service were fabulous. The steak and homemade fries were fabulous. The butternut squash soup was smooth. No overpowering flavors. Family enjoyed their pasta dishes. The restaurant was packed, though, making it a little tight for walking around and a bit loud. Tables a little too close together. But it was holiday, after all. Lots of families and groups together. It really didn't detract from the experience. We're still talking about what a wonderful meal we had there. Thalia will remain a go-to place whether looking for a place pre-theatre or just for a meal.
