Great food & wine!
If you like Burgundy wines you'll love the wine list here. The food is the star though. Always fresh, local, and well prepared.

The best of Labor Day weekend

Fit for foodies
Went on a Friday night and arrived early for our reservation. We were sat immediately which is nice, but the tables are very close together (they split a 4 top into 2 x2). But, very good food, and nice wine list. The lamb neck was awesome! Knowledgable and friendly waitstaff, but somewhat overbearing at times. Our servers helped would refill our wine after each sip. That was a but annoying, but overall it was a nice place for a special occasion. Try could uses some noise reducing techniques in this space to try and calm the loud conversations, by overall it was great!

Fantastic service and food
I discovered this restaurant several years ago when I was in New Orleans at a conference. I have come back every time I am here for meetings and this time took my parents since I am actually here on vacation with them. Food was fabulous and the service is just impeccable. The staff is very attentive. I will be back again!

We were a little nervous when we were first seated because we were overdressed (the jacket required note on open table is way off), but were soon pleasantly surprised by the great service and incredible food. Order the short ribs. It was everyone's favorite dish of the night.

A TRUE ORIGINAL
HONESTLY, THEIR SPECIAL APPETIZER (SMALL PLATE) IS ALWAYS GREAT! GREAT ATTENTION TO DETAILS LIKE THE LITTLE CHUNKS OF CUCUMBER WITH MY CRISPY, DECONSTRUCTED SOFT SHELLED CRAB. HOW DO THEY MAKE IT SO GOOD?
9/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went to Herbsaint 6 times in the last 2 years. Friday night was incredible!!

I was upset having to sit
I was upset having to sit with my father in the back area because it definitely lacks the fun and vibrant scene of the front room. Nonetheless, the gumbo was amazing and I really enjoyed the buttered tuna. The ceviche was disappointing unfortunately. I would recommend and would go back, but not anytime soon. Too many similar restaurants to it.

Modern New orleans
Food was fantastic, great updates on some New Orleans classics, as well as some foodie treats.

one of my favorite restaurants
I had a delicious meal with fabulous service. THis is a world class restaurant . I have never been disappointed.

Different and delicious
A great spot for non-traditional New Orleans fare. Unusual flavors are blended expertly. Recommend highly .

Good food, reasonable price, friendly, helpful staff, enjoyed the chocolate desert.

I was looking forward to eating here after seeing it on Bourdain, but I was astonished at how good it was. Everything was beyond spectacular and everyone I dined with loved their meals. We all had small plates, which were plenty for us and left room for the amazing dessert. I had the gnocci and a side of the seasonal roasted pumpkin, both excellent. I don't live in New Orleans, but if I did I would eat here all the time.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Herbsaint! We sat a a table looking out the front window and our server was excellent, I had fish and my husband had short ribs. He had a vegetable salad that was so good! It was a great idea to dine here and I recommend it to anyone! We took a cab from the Marriott and it only took a few minutes to arrive.
10/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been to Herbsaint dozens of times and they get it right every time. Excellent food, service, and feel.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was good, the service was a little too simple. The only bad thing was a desert: a coconut cake was simply uneatable. I was wondering how come that one dish in such a good restaurant was so bad...

Long time patron
Does anyone remember Cobalt restaurant or Herbsaint whenSusan Spicer was associated with these restaurants? Cobalt is Luke, and Herbsaint was amicably turned over to young Donald Link years ago. Immediately after Katrina, with amazement, Donald Link was open and serving a limited menu on china ! "Because good food should never be served on paper plates." Knowing a restaurant provides a distinct advantage in determining what to order. I believe reviewers who complain do not have that knowledge. I understand. My recent visit was great once again. I say this without bias. Herbsaint does not need my review to fill their seats. They just do what they keep doing and that keeps me coming back for years ...and years.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have been going here for 5 years and it is consistently excellent in all respects. If you want awesome food with interesting wines and friendly service, this is your place. Do yourself a favor and just go.

Herbsaint consistently excellent
I always try to eat here when in NOLA. It is always a great dining experience and never disappointed

Everything was Great
Haven't had this well-rounded an experience at a restaurant (of any caliber) in a long time. Everything was lovely - the food, the service, the ambience, everything. Can't believe it took us so many years to go here; it won't be long before we find an excuse to go back. We were there for our one-year wedding anniversary; it's definitely romantic.
Satsuma old fashioned was a standout cocktail. Duck gumbo to start was delicious, perfect. Baked asiago in a miniature cast iron skillet was amazing and super indulgent - wish it had come with a few more toast points though! Speck salad special was good too, well-balanced. Duck confit entree with citrus gastrique was a very nice modern play on duck a l'orange. And malted mousse for dessert!
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
TRY ALL THE SOUPS
Every thing was nice but the Soups are WOW --- I had all of them for dinner --- really!
10/21/2013 5:00:00 PM
I enjoyed personally
I thought the food was wonderful. One of the people in my party thought it was too noisy. I didn't notice but thought I should point out for the benefit of others.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
good food and accomodating
I have several eating restrictions. They did a phenomenal job at making me a gluten-free, non-spicy meal that was still insanely delicious. Wine was also phenomenal!
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had great meal here. Inside way too loud, but seating outside was perfect. Church chimes every 15 min and streetcars go by adding to ambiance. Had their field peas and meat side as an appetizer. We then shared the shrimp and grits. Very well prepared. The Rhine wine offered by the glass lacks tannins, but nice interesting flavor.
10/28/2013 5:00:00 PM
Very unique food .
How often can you eat lamb neck and pork belly.
The selections were unique and tasty.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been eating at Herbsaint for many years. Each and every time is always wonderful food served with friendly service! The cuisine is New Orleans home style, with flare and ingenuity.
10/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
A must dine
The slow cooked lamb neck was incredible tender and full of flavor! The chicken gumbo was sooo hood that after asking for the recipe we finally bought the cookbook. It was a Cajun Gumbo with chicken and sausage. The shrimp and fish ceviche was a surprise with pepitas in it and again well valanced flavor and texture . Service was promoted , warm and extraordinarily helpful!

Herbsant does everything right.
Herbsant does everything right. Reservations on time, service impeccable and food delicious. The croud is managed well by a courteous and attentive staff. The food is presented well and the diner can pick from a varied menu which accommodates both taste and appetite. Truly a good dining experience.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
At first, we were a little taken back that we were not granted a table by the window considering the restaurant was still empty and that we made reservations few months prior and that we had a young child excited to look out to watch the streetcars go by. The manager nor the hostess gave any attention, thus seated us without giving any regard to our request - Not a good sign.
Yet, the rest of experience was good. Our waitress was kind, courteous and did her best to make recommendations based on our child's allergy. The food was very good . Overall it was a good experience.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. The entrees were delicious and the dessert--- the pumpkin pecan tart was amazing

Charming neighborhood gem
I have always loved gumbo, but interestingly enough, the best gumbo I have ever had is found in my hometown of Jackson,MiS. I have been disappointed when visiting New Orleans several times in restaurants who served 'a less than stellar' gumbo. This visit, I did some research and found that Herbsaint won an award for their gumbo 7 years in a row. We visited this restaurant and fell in love! Herbsaint is charming and unpretentious- a neighborhood gem. The menu is not vast, yet what they do is flawlessly executed. The gumbo is superb, as were several other items my husband and I shared from their small plates menu. Severs were polite and knowledgeable. The noise level was energetic but not distract. I would go back in a heartbeat! Loved it!

Excellent--did not disappoint
First time dining here and did not disappoint! Had the spaghetti am short rib appetizers and both were excellent. The shrimp and grits were yummy and the ribeye was cooked perfectly. The fries were probably our least favorite food (a little greasy). As for dessert we tried the chocolate cake and apple tart. The cake was by far the better dessert and ice creams were most delicious! Service was good and wine list was adequate. Seating is tight, and very European, but this didn't bother us. Overall an excellent dining experience and highly recommend!

My husband and I were first time visitors to New Orleans and upon the recommendation of a local, dined at Herbsaint.
From the moment we walked in and were treated to the perfect 'Rob Roy', to the attentive staff, and excellent choices of food.....we walked away satiated and happy!
The selections on the menu were all so interesting which made it difficult to choose. From the Pork Belly topped with egg, to the Lamb Neck....perfectly done to the chocolate pudding cake....decadent - yes, but well worth the experience.
Our wait staff, as I believe the entire staff, is well trained, professional, and well informed about food selections and preparations, which made the dining experience so enjoyable.
Short cab ride from the French Quarter!!

Enjoyed a lovely lunch outside, near the streetcar tracks. The bread was delicious. Ceviche and mahi mahi were prepared perfectly. Only disappoinmtne was the hangar steak- grisly and too rare. Otherwise, a great experience.

Good overall experience
Very good food. Competent staff. Nice wine list. Lovely atmosphere. It was our best dinner in New Orleans.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
It was my first time going for lunch. I have been many times for dinner. I love Herbsaint. I started with the gumbo, chicken and andouille. Very good!!! Then I had the fried oysters. A perfect lunch. My husband had the soup of the day which was white bean. He loved it it. Then he had the fried catfish, also very good. Herbsaint is one of my favorites.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
I love this restaurant. Food is consistently great and I always at the top of my list whenever I visit New Orleans. Fantastic Sazeracs too.

Worth a Detour
Herbsaint was a pleasurable experience for our party of four recently. It's everything a good restaurant should be - delicious food, professional staff, and no pretensions. The gumbo of the day was superb as was the gnudi. We enjoyed the duck and the fish of the day but the winner was the shrimp, grits with collard tasso sauce. The fried apple pie (sounded weird) was outstanding.
The wait staff was attentive and especially helpful with the wines.
There is nothing tentative about Herbsaint - it feels self-assured.

Best steak ever
The sirloin we ate was the best I ever had. It was sliced for me which was a great presentation. The appetizers were all wonderful and this was our second visit in a month and we will definitely make it a regular visit.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is my return visit - my foodie friend introduced Herbsaint to me during my last N.O. Visit. The thoughtful and creative cuisine is impressive. Service is excellent. Thank goodness we make reservations ahead of our visit.

Great food near the French Quarter
We were in NOLA for only a couple of hours. That meant dinner and a walk in the French Quarter. We had been to Couchon, also run Donald Link. So we thought we would give this a try. What an amazing meal. We had the gumbo, two appetizers, and split an entree (shrimp and grits) on the vegetable of the day. All were outstanding.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
We are regular travelers to NOLA and always make Herbsaint the first reservation.
Have brought many others and it never disappoints.

My boyfriend and I drove in from Baton Rouge specifically for HerbSaint. The food was wonderful and service was fantastic. Will remain ranked as #1 spot for a New Orleans romantic dinner.
12/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Herbsaint was once again amazing. We went for dinner before the Sunday night Saints game. I was happy when they called and told me they'd open early and got us in for 5pm before the 7:30pm game. We shared some apps/small plates and each had an entree: chicken for him and the duck confit for me with CdP. Excellent as always.
12/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Everything is first-rate here. It's a lovely setting on Lafayette Square; the service and food are wonderful.

Herbsaint - One of the Best
Been putting off going here...and that was mistake. Everyone's meal was fabulous. Drinks were very good. Pricing about right for the experience. One of the best dining experiences we've had in New Orleans in some time. Will definitely be returning!
12/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
two different restaurants in one
We arrived late for our reservation due to a cab crisis at our hotel,(and called) but still had a significant wait for our table. Herbsaint has two different dining rooms with very different ambience: The front is crowded, with tiled floor and bar, and is very loud. The back room where we sat is carpeted and much quieter. I would go for the back room if given a choice. Our waitress was a bit snooty, seemed incredulous when we didn't know what an "airline cut" of chicken meant. A smile would have been nice. However, service was prompt, we got an amuse bouche for our wait, and the food was excellent.
